No charge for parking was a plus. Would've benefited from having bottles of water to make tea in the room. Cups were a decent size. Staff were amenable. Beds were comfortable. Appreciate that extra pillows were available in the room.

Nice kind of quaint older style hotel with a large guest relaxing lounge on the first floor BUT lots of steps up and down depending on your room location. Older potential guests should discuss this with the hotel before booking. Initially booked in a room with a couple of foul-mouthed noisy lads next door and door open. Made an early decision to ask for relocation which was arranged and ended up with a quiet room as we had lots of ground to cover the next day. Breakfast was good and all staff friendly and helpful. Parking more than adequate. Ended up an excellent stay.

Restaurant staff were lovely— so were reception staff. The parking was convenient and free. However, it was a long walk to my room, up three flights of stairs, with a heavy bag, and I am elderly. There was no lift. The room (in the attic) was cold and the warm air radiator set the alarm off when turned on! So, I had to turn it off. It was very cold.

Just a one night stop over after getting off the ferry at 10.00pm. Friendly welcome, lots of parking and a big comfortable room with a bath was just what I needed. Bar was open and again the staff were great. Good choice at breakfast and good, attentive staff. Easy, comfortable and great value stay.

We booked for its proximity to the Mid Hants railway station which is just around the corner . It was very convenient for the old high street and we will definetly visit again . A nice corner room gave us good light .We cannot comment on the restaurant as it does Sunday lunches not evening meals that day. Overall NO downsides on our single nights stay with convenient parking arrangements.

I was amazed by the service of a gentleman called Dave. I drove from London to attend a wedding and was going to spent 2 nights at this hotel. I got delayed by roadworks on A406 and M3. I called to ask whether my son could access my room. He had driven in 3 hours earlier with my sister. Dave kindly obliged and I really appreciated that. In addition he was very gracious and kind whe we finally arrived after midnight. The hotel was more than satisfactory for what we required. Parking was adequate. There was a good English breakfast in the morning and I was delighted to discover a rail station a short walk away.

Definitely in need of some TLC. Could hardly see through bedroom window as so dirty, the view was of a flat roof, no attention paid to keep it nice, whole area needed repainting & a plant pot or two would have been a nicer view. Behind my bathroom sink was thick with dust, burn holes in the carpet & communal areas look very tired with dusty silk or plastic plants! Cheap room, good place for workmans rest but not somewhere to stay to enjoy ambience. I’m guessing it was once a grand old hotel now it’s just an old hotel.

The staff 100%. Breakfast and other meals good. I stayed in Room 23 and found it to be clean and well presented, the exception being the venetian blinds, which didn't seem to have reveived attention for some time. There was a problem with the shower mixer, which, as I was only staying for two nights, I only reported on my departure. Room 23 is immediately adjacent to a first floor public terrace; this didn't bother me as it was closed for access and the weather was inclement, but it would be problematic when an event was taking place in good weather. Fairly happy overall, and I would return if I revisit Alton.

The breakfast was not very good, it was cold and the crockery was very dirty. I asked for some clean bowls and I the lady said they were clean but they had brown marks I wiped off with tissue on so that put my children off eating breakfast. The family room was ok apart from one of the pull out beds it was tiny but luckily the night porter got another single mattress for us and we put that on the floor. It was very very hot and hard to sleep as no air conditioning and the fans just blew the hot air around so I wouldn’t go there again. Beautiful house when you walk around it just not the best to sleep in for a family.

Really basic hotel. Phoned before arrival to ask for a refurbished room back by read some reviews and if the room I had was a refurbished one I’d hate to see one that wasn’t. Bed frayed and tired, bathroom dated, floor nearly worn through, black mould around the shower/bath and room needed a good clean - splatters on the bathroom door, dead flies clinging to the window frame. Definitely had better stays

Located on Alton High Street within easy walk of local restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Modest accomodation at a reasonable price. Rooms are on the small side and very poorly soundproofed. Staff are friendly and helpful, parking is plentiful and free. Slightly sprawling layout so room 31 at the furthest point from reception had possibly the slowest WIFI I’ve ever encountered at any hotel. So slow I couldn’t even load Speedtest and even Google took almost a minute to appear. I gave up trying to read my emails or even logging into my emails. Non functional security lock on the door, no tissues, excellent in-room tea and biscuits, top marks for firm and soft bed options in the twin room (I of course chose both).

This hotel is tired. The rooms are in desperate need of a refurb, from iron burn marks on the carpet to old mattresses. The breakfast was ok and staff are really nice, but that doesn’t make up for the facts that the rooms are poor.

Nice enough hotel, it seems. The room was very pokey and in the roof. Stains in the wall beside the bed (an old liquid spill) stain in the carpet, peeling furniture, Velux blinds didn’t shut properly so the light got in early morning. Terrible mattress and the shouting from the car park, which sounded like a domestic fight, that wasn’t dealt with by the hotel and went on until gone 2am made the stay a pretty poor one.

Nothing really good or bad about the hotel. Double room was basic but clean. No power or USB by the bed. Small tv stuck in the corner of the room, not visible from the bed. Staff were friendly.

Absolute worse hotel I have ever been too. Myself and 9 other guest including the grooms experienced cold showers the morning of the wedding. We therefore had no option but to proceed with showering in these circumstances as we would have been late for the wedding if not. Hotel manager was very unapologetic and compassionate to what we had experienced. To some degree mentioned what we had experienced was fine and the norm. To all potential customers I strongly warn against this hotel to avoid a similar experience

From the moment we arrived the staff were so helpful and friendly which continued throughout our 2night stay. Room a lovely size. Lovely and warm too. Food was great and bar staff attentive too. All in all a very relaxing experience and would thoroughly recommend to others.

I arrived at the hotel and went to reception and the lady was very polite and helpful even arranged for someone to take my luggage to my room because I'm partly disabled and use a walking stick . The staff at the bar were very good as were the staff at breakfast

Very welcoming smiles in reception upon arrival and throughout. Very prompt and efficient friendly service from Amy in bar and restaurant. Food was great too. Will stay again.

Located on Alton High Street within easy walk of local restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Modest accomodation at a reasonable price. Rooms are on the small side and very poorly soundproofed. Staff are friendly and helpful, parking is plentiful and free. Slightly sprawling layout so room 31 at the furthest point from reception had possibly the slowest WIFI I’ve ever encountered at any hotel. So slow I couldn’t even load Speedtest and even Google took almost a minute to appear. I gave up trying to read my emails or even logging into my emails. Non functional security lock on the door, no tissues, excellent in-room tea and biscuits, top marks for firm and soft bed options in the twin room (I of course chose both).

Comfortable room with soft twin beds. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Located literally around the corner from the train station and a walkable mile from the Jane Austen Museum and Chawton House.

Nice hotel, in excellent condition throughout. Plenty of parking. Very handy for Jane Austin House and Gilbert White’s House & Garden. Breakfast excellent. Didn’t dine at hotel, so unable to comment. Alton itself was not particularly appealing, but convenient. Very reasonably priced.

We booked for its proximity to the Mid Hants railway station which is just around the corner . It was very convenient for the old high street and we will definetly visit again . A nice corner room gave us good light .We cannot comment on the restaurant as it does Sunday lunches not evening meals that day. Overall NO downsides on our single nights stay with convenient parking arrangements.

Lovely settings in reception and dining area's. All team members friendly and available to help.....no glasses in room,but we didn't eat dinner,but breakfast wasn't Great,fruit salad tinned,one piece of cheese,we went for breakfast at 8.30 but more people came in after so maybe/hopefully was filled up,the container on hot buffet was very heavy to left lid.

Just a one night stop over after getting off the ferry at 10.00pm. Friendly welcome, lots of parking and a big comfortable room with a bath was just what I needed. Bar was open and again the staff were great. Good choice at breakfast and good, attentive staff. Easy, comfortable and great value stay.

The breakfast was not very good, it was cold and the crockery was very dirty. I asked for some clean bowls and I the lady said they were clean but they had brown marks I wiped off with tissue on so that put my children off eating breakfast. The family room was ok apart from one of the pull out beds it was tiny but luckily the night porter got another single mattress for us and we put that on the floor. It was very very hot and hard to sleep as no air conditioning and the fans just blew the hot air around so I wouldn’t go there again. Beautiful house when you walk around it just not the best to sleep in for a family.

We moved room 3 times, all the mattresses were very lumpy , ripped and stained, the wall paper was hanging off the wall along with mouldy bathrooms and unhelpful staff. What a proper sh1te hole.

Staff friendly and helpful, food ok, standard of decor and maintenance is very poor. We were also put in a room over the outdoor bar area which was unfortunately very busy late at night and prevented us from sleeping up till 1am.

Was easy to find lots of parking spaces. Food and drinks were very good and well priced, the portions are very large so you will eat well. Rooms are very clean my room had a bath while my daughter’s room had a shower. The important thing was all the staff are very helpful and very professional. We go to Goodwood festival of speed every year so used a lot of different hotels over the years . We are rebooking already for 2027.
