Speedy and pleasant check in and wonderful staff. The room itself had old but robust furnishings, unpainted hardboard shelves in wardrobe area. The curtains had seen better days. The high standard of the restaurant/bar and garden was not matched by the accommodation. There was a Juliet balcony overlooking a well maintained and pretty beer garden with chairs, deck chairs and matching parasols in good condition, But one Juliet balcony door had been painted shut and the other would only open a little distance as it was obstructed by a curtain pelmet which the room did not need. In addition there was only one chair provided in a double room. The bathroom shower doors did not fully close and there was no shelving to put your own toilet bag, make up etc. It was an internal bathroom so an extractor fan is a legal requirement, but in our room it had been isolated at a ceiling high switch. The bar food and bar staff were very good. To sum up, this was a budget room but we would expect better room maintenance and the high standard of the bar/restaurant to be reflected elsewhere.

The room was spacious and clean, except for a few miscellaneous carpet stains, and the staff were really welcoming. We did, however, get the family room which backs onto the beer garden with a wall of full length windows, so the curtains had to be permanently closed else everyone in the garden would be looking in. It was also so so loud until late into the night, which didn't bode well for our sleepy baby. The room was also really hot and we couldn't open the curtains to let air in and there was no aircon. The nice lady on reception did have a fan for us to borrow though.

Unfortunately we had a little surprise when we arrived in our room after check in. One of the beds was infested with flying ants and also ants. They were all over the bed covers and in and around the pillows and up the wall. The toilet was also filled with someone’s explosive faeces. It was evident the room had not been cleaned. Whilst we appreciate we were given a new room and an apology from the receptionist who was going to report it to the manager, no senior person attempted to speak with us about this. We are really concerned about the hygiene standards of the hotel.
