Parking was easy

Booked hotel as close to wedding venue on Sat & exterior looked attractive in photos. Good central location in Quorn. Arrived Fri afternoon, 2 staff in reception. Greeted by an Asian young woman who's first language clearly wasn't English & I had difficulty understanding her. Eventually the English guy chirped in (he'd been on his 'phone the whole time) & we completed check-in. Interior of main building was "tired" with signs of lack of maintenance. Our room was in adjoining newer building, also "tired": The front door to the building stuck so a big shove was required to open it. It was like that from Fri to Sun for check out. The lift from ground floor to first had an "Out of Order" sign which was there throughout our stay. Luckily for us no lift required. The room itself was "tired" & was in need of a spruce-up. Mattress was like a marshmallow but amazingly we did manage a reasonable sleep. Shower pressure was good, with hot water, however hand basin pressure was a dribble - photo shows it on full pressure. Breakfast and service in the morning is the main reason for 2 stars: Sat I ordered "full English" to be served a cold plate with technically a full English, but small hash brown, tiny slice of bacon & who knows what the sausage was. OJ clearly squash & continental ran out. Sun I ordered scrambled eggs, mushrooms & grilled toms + toast. 30 mins later cold plate with cold food. See photo. Staff said "that's not right" but I left. Other guests also complained.

A good well fitted room, with ample parking and a continental breakfast included. Friendly staff.

No chef on in the evening. Breakfast was good. Return to to the hotel at 21.00 and found the bar to be closed. Disappointing

Parking was easy and secure. There was no bar but not problem for us. When I booked, the confirmation informed me that a continental breakfast was included, however upon arriving I was told breakfast was £7.95 each, but I am not complaining because the prices were all reasonable.

TV remote didn't work, no Aircon and window stuck shut. No bath mat or anti slip surface, no hand holds. Restaurant closed. Breakfast very limited. Bedroom in need of refurbishment.

Lovely country village location. Good parking. Comfortable room and large bathroom though hotel very tired. Staff not very friendly. Had to ring bell and wait for check in as nobody there. No restaurant dinner on a Sunday so went out. Breakfast average.

The Room was a great size. Only complaint is that the ‘King Size Bed’ was two singles pushed together which annoyingly separated through the night. It is definitely worth upgrading to Full English Breakfast for just £5, it was lovely. It is advertised that the Bar and Restaurant is open 5:30-8:30. This isn’t true. It was closed the whole weekend which was disappointing.

Yes, room and bathroom were all clean, but there was no room housekeeping provided (a bit odd!), but was available on request. But mine was not done despite that, the excuse being that I had not left them my key! Surely they would have a spare room key!! Hotel generally a bity chilly, but there was an electric heater in room the controls of which were difficult to master Cooked breakfast very good, all freshly cooked and not from a stewed buffet! But no evening meals available!

I was’nt expecting much in view of the price being charged . The room was old and outdated . The dining room was dirty . I paid £5 extra for a cooked breakfast but the cook didn’t turn up for a 7 am start . I need to get away early and wasn’t prepared to wait . The cheese and ham for the continental breakfast was similar to cardboard .

The room itself was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately the wardrobe was unusable as there were no door handles to open them. The place seems very much in need of a refurbishment. When it came to breakfast, extremely disappointing. There was no juice left. The hot water had run out for hot drinks. There were no staff around to ask for refills. When it came to the hot breakfast option I went into the seating area and was ignored by a waiter 4 times when trying to get his attention. After 10 minutes no one came to take an order so I left disappointed without breakfast. Needless to say, I will not be stopping there again. The hotel, whilst looking picturesque from the outside is understaffed and in desperate need of some TLC.

Delux double room 2 guests. This was an awful experience. I've waited so long to submit my review because i have been waiting for a response from the general manager but even after visisting to complain the following week they have still not been in touch. From the start our stay was not great. On check in the room was dirty, waste food items were left in the cupboards, the complimentary toiletries had been used and left in disarray. There were minimal electrical sockets and the one we had acseas to i was scared to use as it was hanging out of the wall. I took this information to the reception, the staff were polite and offered an alternative room. This was cleaner and more comfortable though half the lights in the bathroom didn't work, there was an issue with hot water so the taps in the sink and the shower were tepid at best. The bath tub ran hot but the plug had a poor seal so after 5 minutes of sitting the bath it was 2 thirds empty. On our final night a function below us disturbed us which culminated in a violent interaction between guests and a large plant pot being thrown theough a window directly below us. This left my partner shaken up and scared. On check out reitterated all theae issues to the staff who claimed they had no power to do anything and agreed to pass this on to the general manager who would email me about my complaint. I waited a week but didnt hear anything. I found an email adress for the GM and visited the hotel later that week but still had no reply

Room was nice and spacious. A few issues sockets did not work for kettle had to stand kettle on floor to reach working socket. Stains down back of desk. Various cobwebs Mould on shower curtain. Breakfast was nice but cold and dining room was freezing. Bar area was also very cold. Drinks were expensive. No hot water in room Sunday morning. Spring sticking out of mattress

The staff were very friendly and helpful, it was just a shame that they had run out of some essential provisions such as white sugar and coke. The hotel has lots of potential, but is badly in need of some care and attention, the dining area chandeliers had a lot of cobwebs and the paintwork generally could do with touching up.

I could not stay in the first room I was given, it was grubby, surfaces not wiped, stained furniture, tap handle missing! The shower head was caked in dirt and the Shower curtain was discussing . There were cobwebs and dust. The reception ladies are lovely and organised another room( executive suite.) I actually felt sorry for them! This room was in a separate block across the courtyard however, when I went to enter the main building in the morning the door was locked and I had to knock on the dining room window for attention to be let in the hotel! Again the staff were apologetic. Again the new room also had a dirty bathroom with a toilet that didn’t flush! Cobwebs and a spider in my bed when I pulled the sheet back! There was a storm whilst I was there and it sounded like something was banging in the loft area above my room, this woke me a couple of times. Breakfast did not consist of gluten free options as requested and also there was no cooked food available unless you had time to wait. On the last morning of 3 hot breakfast was laid out but there was no gluten free options. Staff were scarce and customer were scrambling around for plates, cutlery, a chair etc.

we arrived late and were not really impressed with the Hotel in general, our room was dirty i.e. dead bugs on window sill crisps on floor carpets heavily stained beds were uncomfortable just really poor. I complained the following morning, you can't blame staff as it's not their hotel so it's up to upper management / owners to really take a hard look at this and make changes drastic changes sooner than later. Anyway Michelle the on duty manager was very helpful and understanding and offered us two new rooms as there were me my wife and our son staying. The rooms were far better than our first but again cleanliness was poor (bedding okay and towels) In my opinion it's just being run on a shoestring and understaffed.

The staff are friendly and accommodating. The hotel is a bit tired, but for a 17th century building it's amazing. The room and bathroom were clean and well equipped. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Will definitely go again when I'm in the area.

Unfortunately the worst night we have ever had in a hotel. The plumbing in our room was resonating all night. Sounded like a kango hammer. Greeted on arrival by kitchen staff who appeared to be doing various jobs. Not at all helpful. We tried to speak to the duty manager before we checked out but we're politely informed that there wasn't one and that our concerns would be passed on. We were told that the duty manager would ring us on Monday the next day. Guess what no call. So I am left with this posting. Perhaps we were unlucky but a call would have been nice. I did make a 14 second recording of the horrible noise but this site doesn't seem to be able to take anything but photos..

A little expensive. The room was lovely and spacious but the bathroom was really quite poorly kept.

Our room was on top of a wedding venue which played loud music until midnight. The front desk lied and said it would finish at 11 when we complained. There was no mention of this on booking. The supervisor said we would be refunded but would not do it while we were there but made excuses. Still waiting for a weekend. Avoid on Saturday nights!

In fairness this was just a 1 night stay but this is a very basic hotel in its current state. The reception is quite welcoming as an old Manor House style building. However the facilities in the bedroom are basic and a bit grubby. Our main issue was the comfort of the bed. It was so hard, like sleeping on a board, we didn’t sleep well at all. We opted for the inclusive continental breakfast with was acceptable but again very basic. Cutlery was rather dirty/water stained like it had just come out of the dishwasher. Nobody on reception when we left to highlight our observations even though this was at around 10 am. Wouldn’t stay here again. Quite cheap but needs attention in a number of areas.

Decor tired, mattress saggy, leak in bathroom and bath panel coming away, tv remote not working. Breakfast was extremely limited - no museli or fruit and no croissants on the second morning. More healthy options needed.

Comfortable, Clean and good value. It is not modern, and is a little tired/dated (a bit like myself!). Rooms are a good size. I would stay here again.

The room was OK. My only real complaint was that the heating didn't work in my room. In my friends room they complained that it was too hot. Obviously their heating worked. It all looked like it needed a facelift.

On arrival there was no one in reception. We waited about 10 minutes and then went looking for someone….twice. The place is ok. In need of a refresh

I booked 2 rooms in this hotel 3 months ago for a one night stay with early check in for my daughter’s graduation from Loughborough University. I spoke to the hotel 3 days before to confirm our early check in. We drove for 3 hours to get there only to be told our booking had been cancelled. No apology, no explanation just that the rooms had been cancelled by the hotel the day before. I had received no communication from them or Expedia. The receptionist tried to help but the manager, Syad, was unapologetic, dismissive and couldn’t care less that this was an important day for us and this could ruin it for us all. He kept just shrugging and saying we had to talk to Expedia rather than trying to understand the distress this was causing us and at no point did he apologise. AVOID this hotel at all costs, I have never had a hotel cancel on the day before arrival before and to be uncaring about it as well was unforgivable.

Hotel okay for travel purpose, but lacking in staff service, customer care. Whole hotel tired and urgently needs refreshing. Room not cleaned during stay even though door hanger requesting this was placed on door. Low price did mean a better review but would not pay more and unlikely to return or recommend.

Serving trays containing eggs,sausages, bacon etc were constantly empty and waited a long time to be refilled. Duty Manager was cooking food as no kitchen staff had turned up. Reception desk not very helpful.

Really poor experience. The hotel is tired, tatty and musty. The staff are any combination of incompetent, unmotivated and under resourced Breakfast was a joke, 30 minutes we waited to put an order in, nothing. One member of staff tryimg to cover 30 people across multiple rooms. Had to leave and find a McDonald's in the end. Avoid like the plague, much better places to stay locally.

Great hotel for what we needed which was a local wedding. Staff very friendly and accommodating.

Lovely hotel and beautiful surroundings. Went to visit family nearby, first time visiting after Covid and my husband's health issues. Very relaxed. The staff are very friendly especially Maria and Lesley who we had several conversations with. Only issue was finding it, we drove passed it a few times. I think better signage would be helpful as it really didn't jump out at us. Would recommend 100%.

Most delightful stay, clean spacious and comfortable. Friendly check in. Didn’t eat here so can’t comment on service and food served.Lovely quiet location with great grounds next to river.

Poor breakfast facilities

Menu on first evening was poor. Very little available. Had to wait 45 minutes for meal once chosen and nobody else in restaurant having a meal. Breakfast good as we had cooked but poor availability around it. Only fruit was apple. Couldn’t get hot water in the room. Cold shower and even cold in basin.

Very tired property which could do with updating. Seems like it’s being run on a shoestring. Continental breakfast was cereal and sliced bread with a toaster. No soap in the bathroom for the shower.

The twin room we stayed in was ok. The beds were a little worn and one of the covers on the bed had a stain on it that looked like blood. Only a small amount, but nonetheless visible. Breakfast was a total letdown. We were told breakfast was from 8-10am. We arrived at 9.15am to find there was hardly any of the cooked breakfast left. We had to clear a table ourselves to sit down. Another guest asked for some fresh breakfast to be put out and this took over half an hour to arrive. It came in dribs and drabs so people weren’t able to put their food on their plates as a complete breakfast. There was hardly any bread for toast and no butter. The breakfast (when it finally all arrived!) was very basic sausage, bacon, fried egg and beans. The tables were not given a wipe between customers. All in all, a very disappointing experience.

Comfortable bed and cleanliness of room was fine. Hotel looked tired and needed sprucing up. Breakfast was poor - low level chairs and tables to eat off. Dirty plates not cleared away. Poor choice of cereal and canisters nearly empty . No sausage, bacon, egg, tomatoes or mushrooms; the only hot food in the serving trays were beans and hash browns. Had to ask for the trays to be replenished and for clean plates to be brought out and had to wait 10 minutes for this and the only member of staff on duty that we saw only brought out bacon during this time. Could understand if this was at the end of breakfast, but this 30 minutes into the service.
