The Close Hotel

Hi , Beautiful building in a beautiful small Cotswolds town . We really enjoyed our stay here ! So don’t get me wrong . Very central to Tetbury and with enough good shops , bars , restaurants and pubs nearby . Lovely staff , gorgeous rear garden , big and well cleaned rooms and good breakfasts . Free parking is also a big plus . Great bar and front lounge area . Only SMALL negatives were ; No full length mirror in room . No fridge in room . Only a half length wardrobe. No safe in room . ( unless we missed it ? ) Not an easy issue to deal with in an historic building but poor sound insulation between rooms , particularly a room above yours ( our room could easily have absorbed another four inches of sound insulation on the ceiling and another layer of carpet underlay in the room above would have helped . Toilet refilling noise also needs reducing . I really do feel for the owners on all of these minor points being in such a stunning building as otherwise it is gorgeous , I only make comments in order to help make the small improvements that would make an establishment more exceptional but there was a slight and fluctuating odour of what I took as ‘ bins ‘ over our three day stay to the rear of the hotel . It’s odd as when I went out to the bin shed I could not smell anything so , possibly from a neighbouring property ?but may be depending on the direction of the wind but did not disappear over three days so definitely needs experiencing and eradicating . Thank you

Beautiful hotel set in lovely surroundjngs on high street with parking. Breakfast was first class too.

Character hotel with a friendly and and welcoming atmosphere. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Food superb with plenty of choice. Only slight negative is the parking but that was purely down to people not parking sensibly.

Friendly and helpful staff. Great conditions even though the building is hundreds years old. I thought parking is hard to find but Google maps gives the precise location. Otherwise it might be a bit difficult to find the parking lot behind the hotel

Great position and a friendly beautifully decorated quirky hotel. Very good food and efficient friendly service. there are a lot of stairs which could be a problem.

The room was immaculate, cosy and well laid out- not an easy task as it was at the top of a turret! All the fabrics, cushions and blankets were of an excellent quality. Staff were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly without being intrusive and they created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. They are a real asset. Breakfast was excellent - a wide selection at the well stocked buffet and an excellent cooked option too.

We stayed here on a Sunday night in a 'standard room'. The room was too noisy with the windows open and too hot and stuffy with them closed. the plug in fan left in the room made little difference. The room was wedged into the eves and the head of the bed was the other side of the wall from a fire door that closed with a thud every time someone passed through it. The sink did not drain properly and the shower was stuck on a mode that restricted the water flow so that it was like standing under a low powered tap. I did raise these issue to be told ' well you were in a standard room ' and ' we cannot do anything because we are a listed building '. I barley slept and would have paid more for a quiet room if I had realised that the standard rooms were in fact sub standard. I suggested that the fie door might be modified so that it shuts gently, that a ceiling fan (or indeed a Dyson fan or equivalent ) would be better in the room, and of course that the bathroom issues be fixed. We were very much looking forward to staying here but were extremely disappointed. The hotel seem to be trying to carry off a London style professional aloofness, they cam across as disdainful. The food was really excellent, just do not book a ' standard room '.

The visiting snail in the bathroom was unexpected The breakfast of eggs Benedict was a great disappointment Weird pictures…….why No sign of management But otherwise ok

Very clean, helpful staff, great location and comfortable stay

I had a room under the eaves which can be quite hazardous. Easy to bang one's head in the night. But managed to avoid that. Otherwise, this is a grand old lady of Tetbury which is beginning to show some imperfections here and there. Some stains on the carpet, some cracks in skirting board junctions. The staff were excellent and the food was good if pricey.

The Close hotel is well situated, clean and of the highest standard. The room we stayed in was very well appointed with a lovely big king size bed and an excellent en suite. We had the breakfast which was delicious with plenty of options and the staff are very attentive without being imposing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. If you’re planning a stay in the Cotswolds look no further.

Good comfortable room, shaving light/mirror not working. Nice shower and bath.Good tea coffee and biscuits. Needs a teapot or mugs instead of tea cups. Excellent breakfast but cooked orders a bit sloe.Good value deal on Expedia.

Cosy, clean and functional

I always check the hygiene and condition of the duvet under its cover. Whilst it looked averagely clean it was in holes in places and the type of duvet you can buy very cheap via retailers. New duvets are not that expensive and for the room rate I would have expected better. Also it was a winter weight duvet in June?! So I slept poorly and hot. I also check the condition of the mattress. Even though there was a topper, the mattress below this had many stains and looked really old. Again a new mattress is not that expensive and if the exisiting one is aged and stained it should be replaced. The sheets were clean though and I did not check the pillows!! The TV had no picture on arrival but was resolved. Based on this I would not stay again. We were in the Tudor room.

Overall a lovely quaint place to stay for your Cotswolds trip. Tetbury is a lovely sleepy town. The checkin gentleman at the reception was delightful entry to UK - he was charming, friendly and helpful with recommendations and generally great chat. The building is historic and comes with an older feel - which can be difficult as it’s all a bit older (eg shower was very low ceiling). But that’s part of the charm I suppose.

Doves is a beautifully appointed spacious room. Breakfast excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great stay in a nice location

Hotel and room were superb with plenty of character. Hotel's central location was good for shops and walking routes. Breakfast and dinner were very good. Would stay again.

Lovely spacious room with a huge bed. The hotel is right in the middle of town so it's close to everything. Great breakfast in the morning.

Gorgeous hotel with a lovely garden. What a joy to have breakfast or drinks there when the sun is out! Our twin room was great, nice view of the garden, very quiet and with a stunning bathroom!

Parking is challenging. Also hard to find unless you know what to look for. Have to drive some distance and then come in via a housing estate. Welcome was disappointing. You’re expected to check in online, which is fine and saves time, but the reception staff did minimum. Took card. Showed us where room was. Nothing else. No I do about bar or restaurant. No checking if we had reservations. They just didn’t makes feel particularly welcome. Not great in the hospitality business.

The Hotel is full of character and the bedrooms are beautifully decorated and big.We had a problem with our room so the Manager ,Jenny changed our room to a better one for the second night.I must say that she is amazing,very understanding and very hard working ,definitely an asset to the company.The staff are all excellent and very friendly.We would stay there again.

We loved our stay at The Close. Very convenient, room was cosy and comfortable, the staff were friendly. Our only negatives were we felt that the drinks and food by the bar were overpriced for what they were and breakfast wasn't great (we had to wait a very long time to be served).

Exquisite. Very relaxing stay, incredible food, welcoming staff, can't recommend enough.

Satnav led us astray so we had a bit of trouble finding the place but fortunately found a friendly local who directed us. It was pouring rain and their parking lot which is a bit of a challenge to find was full. We went in, and the extremely helpful young woman at the check in desk came out with us and moved her car so we could have her parking space! The building itself is quite interesting, the room was comfortable and the food was good. Unfortunately, they couldn't fix the weather.

We were upgraded to the Cuckoo suite which was lovely overlooking the lit gardens. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The Close breakfast menu was also very good with lots of choice, we had Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine which were very nice.
