Wow, what a place. We had seen the photos online, but staying at the Charmante was a real experience and pleasure. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a welcome drink in their bar area at check-in and the details throughout the hotel and room were so well considered and with such a sense of fun. Thank you so much to the whole team for providing a truly memorable experience for our stay in Bergen. P.S. As others have said, the ‘amazing breakfast’ really is!

The decor was colorful and classy. The food was excellent. Staff were helpful and kind. A few hints: It is tricky to find with Google Maps while driving. It is on a street with outside cafe seating and pedestrians walking by. I called to find out where to park. At the advice of the hotel staff we parked at KlosterGarasjen Vestre Murallmenningen 14, 5011 Bergen, Norway and walked to the hotel. The rental car has a chip for the parking charge. The hotel has fabulous food and several places to eat within the hotel and a somewhat secluded place across the “street” (walkway). The chefs choice for breakfast included a smoked trout croissant sandwich which was new to me and surprisingly amazing. I had it twice. The brisket at lunch and dinner is full of flavor and melt in your mouth moist and tender. We found live music a short walk away at Sjoborden. The Food and Culture tour was interesting and fun. There are several malls and shops within walking distance that the staff expertly guided us to for great shopping (Air France lost our luggage so we had to buy a lot of different things.)

An absolutely beautiful, luxurious, all-things-thought-of experience. Gorgeous and comfortable, and relatively affordable. HOWEVER, the recommended parking is a ten minute walk away, with wheeled suitcases hauled over cobblestones in the driving rain. So be sure to drop off your bags first before parking, although this and pick up can be made difficult now that the city has clamped down on cars in that area. AND, be sure to ask if your room will be situated above a party or club lasting until 4am. I did not sleep a wink, though everything was otherwise superb.

Charming & Quaint I really was not sure about this untraditional choice for our three days in Bergen, Norway... This is a French Restaurant Hotel which is sprawling between several connected buildings. The colorful decor vibtrates and the check-in front desk has a very helpful multilingual staff. In our room, there was French music playing, but no television. The daily breakfast was delightfully delicious... and there is even a 24 hour cappuccino/espresso/hot-chocolate machine that hit the spot, several times a day. This stay was an unconventional hotel choice, but a memoral decision that we hope to make again. Wonderful

Very pretty chic hotel in great location. Breakfast was good too. Very clean. Few things could be improved at this price point (450$++ usd) that were disappointing - no floor towel/mat in bathroom with slippery slick marble tiles, no free bottle of water, no robes or slippers or any extra towels (not that you NEED those, but comparing to other hotels in this price range). No one to help with your bags. VERY NOISY at night until 3 am as all rooms are right above bars. And big red flag for older people - your taxi cannot drive up to this hotel - you must walk your bags at least 1 block.

Vi fikk akkurat det rommet vi spurte om i forespørselen, et Grand Double «med blå sofa», og rommet var fantastisk. Aldri sett så stor dobbeltseng før, den må ha vært nærmere 3meter bred. Kunne lett fått plass til hele familien på 4 oppi den, men vi var bare to personer og kunne sove som sjøstjerner. Trykket i dusjen var det beste vi noen gang har hatt og badet var gnistrende rent. Dusjveggene så ut som de var av krystall og ikke av glass, så rent var det. Det eneste vi savnet var en hylle eller et lite bord til å sette fra oss toalettsakene på badet. Litt tungvint å ha dem på gulvet. Gjennomført veldig sjarmerende design på hele hotellet. Vi kommer definitivt igjen.

A true boutique hotel in every sense of the word. Warm and inviting, professional and courteous staff. The rooms are spacious and very tastefully furnished in classic style, no trace of modern chic. The linen and bedding are luxurious, crisp and spotless. My wife was perfectly happy; I could not have asked for more.

This property is extremely cute and quirky!! My family loved staying here. The rooms were spacious and well maintained, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were funky and clean. This was a great place to stay.

This was a lovely place with a quirky French charm. We loved the breakfasts (included) and the dinner in their restaurant was superb. There several cozy places to gather with complimentary coffee, etc., available 24 hours. The staff was extremely warm, congenial and attentive. The only downside was it was dark: the bathrooms in particular were so dark it was difficult to shave, apply make up or even read the bottles in the shower to see which was shampoo or conditioner.

Great spot if you like your room to double as a sauna. No a/c but worse they blow heat in the hallway. Service was mixed, some great, some stiff and not customer focussed. Great space thta seems wasted in many ways

This was one of the most charming hotels I have stayed at. Adorable French decor throughout and music piped into your room that you can turn off if desired. We had a "Petite Chambre" and I was honestly a little concerned it would be too small for my husband and I, as it was sadly misrepresented by the pictures posted online. It was just right for the 2 of us. The espresso/cappaccino machine was self-serve and available at any time and the food at breakfast was magnificent. The staff was helpful and attentive for any need/request. The location is perfect for walkability to everything and on a super-cute street. the only thing is, if you are particularly sensitive to noise, there are restaurant on the same street and it wasn't whisper quiet by any means. But not bad. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I can't say enough great things about the Charmante Hotel! We stayed there for our honeymoon and everything was just perfect. The staff is kind and welcoming, and went above and beyond our expectations to accommodate my wife's allergies, even making a special cappuccino with oat milk as the lounge coffee maker did not have that option. The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable, with a great music playlist to set the mood! We will absolutely stay here again the next time we are in Bergen!

Wow, what a place. We had seen the photos online, but staying at the Charmante was a real experience and pleasure. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a welcome drink in their bar area at check-in and the details throughout the hotel and room were so well considered and with such a sense of fun. Thank you so much to the whole team for providing a truly memorable experience for our stay in Bergen. P.S. As others have said, the ‘amazing breakfast’ really is!

Unfortunately i was so sick for our entire trip to Norway... but this was the nicest possible hotel to be sick in! Staff were so kind and accomodating. Even though they dont generally do room service, when my fiance told them i was sick so we would have to miss our resesrvation, they beought food for us to the room! 10/10 experience.

Flott utseende og beliggenhet. Veldig liten lobby, men innsjekking gikk ganske fort.. interiør og dekor er helt unikt. Rommet er veldig varmt, men med åpent vindu og ett kjøletårn ble det levelig på rommet. Men når vi skulle sove oppsto en stor utfordring, det finnes en bar på gateplan, og her var festen i full gang. Selv med headset med støydemping oppleves det som man er med på festen. Kontaktet resepsjonen klokken 01:30 for å høre om det var noe de kunne hjelpe med. Men selv om hun var veldig forståelsesfull var det ingen hjelp å få, festen ville nok vare minst til klokken 03:00. , Veldig skuffende, ingen tilbud om å bytte rom eller noe annet som kunne hjelpe. Så til tross for at nattevakt var høflig og hyggelig må jeg si at jeg er veldig misfornøyd.

Fantastisk flott hotell med meget hyggelig betjening. Hadde booket Grand Chambre Noble rommet, men ved annkomst hadde den hyggelige resepsjonisten oppgradert oss til Mini Suite Celine uten ekstra kostnad ! Fantastisk atmosfære på hele hotellet! Føles ut som man er i Frankrike når man kommer inn og det spilles av flott fransk musikk i alle rom på hotellet . Man glemmer fort at man er i Bergen sentrum ! Booket også bord på restauranten som er en del av hotellet. Fantastisk god mat !( eneste som var et lite minus der var at jeg på bookingen hadde ønske om en koselig bås for 4 under middagen da vi skulle feire en rund dag, men vi fikk i stedenfor ett noe høyt bord med en vond benk å sitte på selv om det var ledige båser..? men igjen, maten var så god at det fortsatt ble en veldig fin opplevelse. ) Under frokosten fikk vi en koselig bås som var mye mer behagelig å sitte i, her også var det fantastisk hod mat !. Kommer nok tilbake flere ganger, både på hotellet og restauranten.

This has to be one of our favourite hotels ever. The staff make it, they are all so welcoming, friendly and fun. The quirky decorations are brilliant and the food is absolutely superb. Plus the location is so central and convenient for exploring Bergen.

Very pretty chic hotel in great location. Breakfast was good too. Very clean. Few things could be improved at this price point (450$++ usd) that were disappointing - no floor towel/mat in bathroom with slippery slick marble tiles, no free bottle of water, no robes or slippers or any extra towels (not that you NEED those, but comparing to other hotels in this price range). No one to help with your bags. VERY NOISY at night until 3 am as all rooms are right above bars. And big red flag for older people - your taxi cannot drive up to this hotel - you must walk your bags at least 1 block.

If you are tired of millennial gray with white subway tile bathrooms, this place is for you! Great hotel for a couple with a mix of French charm and a large dose of sultry touches. Think Moulin Rouge without Satine. The breakfast was delicious, the beds comfortable, the bar upstairs had a great ambiance and the staff helpful. We had a « grande chambre » which had a minibar, a sitting area, a large bed set up in the typical Norwegian way, and a large bathroom with shower (and a mirrored ceiling - yes, you can picture it). The hotel is situated in the middle of a busy pedestrian street, steps from the Bryggen area and a the downtown shopping. It was also a quick walk up the path of the funicular. We would recommend for any romantic getaway!

An absolutely beautiful, luxurious, all-things-thought-of experience. Gorgeous and comfortable, and relatively affordable. HOWEVER, the recommended parking is a ten minute walk away, with wheeled suitcases hauled over cobblestones in the driving rain. So be sure to drop off your bags first before parking, although this and pick up can be made difficult now that the city has clamped down on cars in that area. AND, be sure to ask if your room will be situated above a party or club lasting until 4am. I did not sleep a wink, though everything was otherwise superb.

This is one of the top hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I was impressed with everything - the kindness and helpfulness of the staff, to the decor, to the comfort and thoughtful touches in the room. It’s very, very conveniently located to everything we wanted to do in Bergen, I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone!

1. excellent location, superb friendly service. very funky we would stay again, room we were in, while pricey $400+ on hotels.com, was a suite with 2 rooms, for 4 nights. 2. some negatives (not big) a. no receipt copy given after eating , evidently had to ask for it to get it which we forgot, but easily charged to room. not sure whether automatically giving recept copy (whether paper or online fine) was due to cultural differences or lack of training. b. food server did not understand order, wrong item brought, we had to pay for it, so hotel might be in money trouble, but food was excellent, pricey but not out of hand for Bergen. c. power went off one night, ac did not come back on. with outside temperature in negative Celsius not a big issue but blinking light may bother some d. coffee in restaurant made with same machine, right outside restaurant entrance, where we made our free coffee for room, but we paid for it? e. no phone in room to call front desk, need to use our phone, which is fine. but with esims we could not text, suggest adding hotel WhatsApp address to card.

This was a lovely place with a quirky French charm. We loved the breakfasts (included) and the dinner in their restaurant was superb. There several cozy places to gather with complimentary coffee, etc., available 24 hours. The staff was extremely warm, congenial and attentive. The only downside was it was dark: the bathrooms in particular were so dark it was difficult to shave, apply make up or even read the bottles in the shower to see which was shampoo or conditioner.

It was a lovely hotel but a couple of things made it disappointing. The food in the restaurant was fair but the menu was the same every night we ate there. The rooms were very basic and did NOT have any facilities for making tea or coffee. The shower was AWESOME.

An amazingly decorated hotel. We went for a night of our honeymoon and it was perfect. Spent ages researching which hotel to stay at and have absolutely no regrets. My only complaint was that when we arrived our sheet smelt of vomit. The hotel staff rectified this quickly but initially seemed like they didn't trust us! They found that someone had vomited on the mattress topper - it was a very small stain so could have been missed when changing the bed sheets, but I smelt it easily when lying in bed. They changed the sheets and it was sorted. We got a free drink for the inconvenience, but we had already had this drink just moments ago as welcome drink so it didn't feel particularly like we were compensated. We ate some crisps and a single can of beer in our room whilst the sheets were being changed and were still charged for these. Giving this as feedback to the hotel - despite this we would still 100% recommend the hotel and go again!
