We stayed 2 nights, room was cute and very clean, no complaints, check in was a breeze, Cedar Point is only minutes away! The only down fall we had is the food truck was never open even though the signs said food truck now open, but there was other food options close by! Great stay, they offer a lot of outdoor activities such as corn hole, spikeball, fire pits and grills, will definitely stay again

Room was clean, air conditioning worked well, streaming on the TV, cute updates and comfortable beds. Our door lock was busted Parking was a free for all and angled which made it harder for several of our neighbors. Parking spots could be bigger keeping in mind family vehicles by the family rooms and maybe numbered??

Great place to stay! We stayed here with our dogs and loved having the big grassy area out back to take them. About a 10ish minute drive to downtown restaurants and bars. Check in and check out was really easy and user friendly to do.

Had the family suite. Room clean. TVs are humongous. WiFi is super fast. Love the common area, where you can get ice and refill your water bottles with filtered water. Staff is friendly and very helpful.

Very clean and loved the fire pit and seating . Very close to Cedar Point. Would definitely recommend

Very clean, staff was extremely nice and helpful. Nice fire pit and chairs behind the building were nice to enjoy a bonfire at night. Corn hole boards and community charcoal grill and picnic tables behind the building for guest to also use.

10/10 very comfortable beds, very clean and well designed rooms to accommodate pets. I was able to check in early with a reasonable fee. the manager I spoke with was very nice and professional. The grounds are great to walk your dog. They also have a food truck on site. I would definitely stay again.

The room was nice and clean, overall a good stay. Some minor details that could make the property superb… there was a LOT of bleed through noise from the other rooms. Other guests kept arriving late and the blinds weren’t effective at keeping the lights from disrupting our sleep. The bed was very much on the low side, which could be difficult for some people to get in or out of. My husband has rheumatoid arthritis and did struggle a bit getting in and out. Additionally, the bathroom door is oddly small…again my husband blasted his elbows at least three times going in and out (and he’s just an average sized man). Finally, parking is a bit inadequate, and a bit cramped. All in all, an above average stay in a clean well maintained environment. But just because the competition is a 4, it doesn’t make Explorer a 9.

The property seemed to be a converted motel and the room was very nice and new. Biggest problem I had is that there is no staff/front desk, they gave me a code to access the room but the vode stopped working about an hour after arriving. Then around 9-10pm someone else was trying to get into our room, their code seemed to work but luckily I had the door double locked

Very nice. No check in desk or ice machine or vending machines! But it was clean and comfy and spacious and I loved the outdoor seating areas! Close to cedar point and just super cute!

The staff were so friendly and kind! Parking was easy, right in front of the room. Very close drive to Cedar Point. Comfortable beds and the room was very clean. The rooms are updated and have what you need -- coffee maker, fridge, microwave. Shared walls means you hear your neighbors if they are being loud, but no more than if you were staying at any other hotel. Overall, a really nice and comfortable stay.

VERY pleased!! Entire room was completely updated, VERY VERY CLEAN (and that is my #1 priority), HUGE room with all of the amenities you would need. And the price was fantastic! Great location, very close to Kalahari and Cedar Point. Easy to find. Would definitely stay there again.

The stay was just okay. I wanted to like it more but there were some issues. The sink was slanting off the wall in a way that made everything fall off. The shower leaked badly. I’m pretty sure there is lingering water damage hiding under the floor because the room smelled mildew-ish. There is unfinished wood everywhere that is cute but also dirty looking. We ended up leaving early. Also room had spiderwebs hanging and dead bugs hanging above the door.

The room that we were assigned was not cleaned. Bed was unmade and there were towels on the floor. We got a new room which was better. Also, our code was not sent to us for the door, we had to call to get it. It was an ok stay.

This is a single story motel where you can park right near your room if there’s a space available. The air conditioners however face the same direction as the parking area which will suck in people’s car smells. In our case someone else’s car had a gas leak and the fumes were sucked into our room while we were sleeping. That’s mostly an unfortunate circumstance for us but I also noticed a lot of human hair all over our pillows as if the cases weren’t changed from the previous guest. I did like the simple setup, decor, the bigger size smart tv, the amenities, the price, and the distance from Cedar Point but I won’t stay here again.

We’ve stayed here prior to the renovation, and it was a very rundown, nasty property. It’s definitely updated but in the most minimal, cheap way possible. I’d guess they’re not that experienced. The shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc., were in big bottles that could easily be opened and contaminated by previous guests. It should at least be locked like the Hilton does so you can be confident it wasn’t tampered with. The bedding had a lot of hair and debris. I don’t appreciate the decorative pillows that were really dirty. Either get rid of them or keep them on the seat and not the bed. Everyone knows they cannot be cleaned and are frankly unsanitary. I don’t want something unwashed where I lay my head to sleep. There is a lot of hair and dander on the sides of the bed frame. We also found trash from the previous guest behind the nightstand. The clock in the room didn’t work because it didn’t have batteries. There was only one trash can in the bathroom, none in the room area. The bathroom sink is slanted; we originally thought it was falling off the wall. The shelves and light fixture was crooked. It was cheaper but still not cheap enough for the condition and how dirty it was. We wouldn’t stay here again. The only pro was being able to check in and out on your phone and skip the front desk.

There were dead bugs all around the window and bathroom. The shower curtain wasn’t the right size so water from the shower got everywhere on the floor. The sheets had stains on them and there wasn’t a trash can in the main room, other than the bathroom. We had the bunk bed room and it was so uncomfortable to climb the steps. The wood isn’t rounded so the edges really hurt and for tall people it’s very hard to climb since the bed is close to the ceiling. The amenities also weren’t available, no games in the back or anything. Other than those things, things were great!

The room was clean, had comfy beds, and looked very modern. They makeover made the most of the space. If I had to give a downside it was having a very small bathroom sink. The old motel style was amazingly transformed to be very nice. Discovering the rear of the hotel there was a huge space with a firepit. Overall, I got a modern camping vibe of the location. From check-in to checkout everything is done online. There is no staff. The only one I had seen was the food truck lady. I assume there was a.cleaning person as their cart was outside of a room. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this place and would stay again when I'm back in the area.

It was very clean but very small with no desks or chairs.

Modernize Old style motel. Prompt service. bed stand is wood and seemed to have warped a bit making it squeak. Walls were thin, we could hear conversation level talking on the other side so I’m sure they heard us laughing at memes together after 10pm.

Pros: Very cute inn and nice property. Good size bed for family of 4 (young adults). Close to ceder point with a lot of amenities:) Cons: Too noisy with cars driving by. Train track is like 10 feet away and so loud. I’m very light sleeper so it wasn’t a good fit for me. Sink is small and hard to wash face, but I guess washing face in the shower works:)

The bed was off the charts comfortable! Crisp, clean, boutique style rooms with a really unique design. Perfect for overnight stays, not ideal for business travelers.

Came for our grandson's baseball tournament down the road, and didn't want to stay at the large hotel/water park down the road. This re-done motel exceeded our expectations! Nice size rooms, all expected amenities, beds, pillows and linens like heaven! Only thing I can think to recommend is to include at least one luggage rack. There are no dressers or closets in the room, so opening and closing suitcases on the bed every time something was needed got a little tedious.

Self check in was very unorganized and the instructions and communication between the staff and customer is extremely poor. Once we did get our room number and door code, we see that the door was difficult to use and a pain to even get to relock. There were two boards attached to the entrance holding the frame on that was pretty sketchy, and definitely did not feel safe whatsoever. Someone easily could push open the door from the outside. That and if you want a goods night sleep, 10/10 do not recommend as there is a train right outside the building the runs every 30 some minutes that the owners pleasantly decided to leave out of the description.

First time staying at the property for a one night stay. Easy access and communication. As well as my daughter forgot her tablet and they were so kind and mailed it to us.

Room was very nice, clean, and quieter than some other places near by. Justin was a tremendous help to my family, definitely going above and beyond for next level service. He found valuable property left behind in our room and immediately called to get it returned to us. Justin drove many miles and expended a lot of his time to meet up with us to get it returned. He is truly a passionate business owner and cares about doing the right thing more than monetary values. He is an asset to the community and folks should definitely consider staying here.

The team at Explorer were great to work with. They were super accommodating. We had booked a 3 day stay but the. We realized we needed an extra day. They gave us a late checknout on our first room And then an early check in on our new room. The suite we stayed in was spacious amd clean. The beds were comfortable and the room had a great temp. The linens were clean as well as the towel, which there were plenty. The kichenette worked for our needs. The Explorer is super close to Cedar Point was super close and easy to get to. Only about 10 mins to downtown Sandusky which had some great options for food.

We arrived on a Friday night around 8:00PM, the email that I received with the accommodation information did not contain a unit number so I had to contact the property. The property itself was nice. However, Saturday night around 10:00 PM, our shower and toilet began spewing sewer water up out of the drains. Contacted the property and after an hour or so, they finally reach out to me and inform me that they do not have any other available rooms in the hotel. They offer to compensate for the inconvenience (which never happened). I asked them what we were supposed to do because our bathroom is completely full of water and unusable. They tell me they may have an air bnb property we can use, give them some time to see what they work out. After another 30-60 minutes they call back and they do have a property available about 15 minutes away from where we are staying. I am thankful that they had something available and the air bnb was beautiful but that DOES NOT make up for the stress and hassle of having to move accommodation in the middle of the night.

We stayed for a couple of nights at the Explorer Rest & Recreation. When we had an issue, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. For instance, we had a problem with our room, so the staff moved us to another property that they owned for the night until they could switch us into a room that was towards the front!

This property is adorable!! They did an excellent job of taking a old motel and turning into a great place to stay. The staff is amazing. We had problems getting our room code. The staff was on top of it, and personally called me to make sure I received it and if there was anything else I needed. We will definitely be staying here next time we are in town.

We stayed in room 41. Here are a few things that maybe could be improved. The room did have a funny odor, similar to wet dog, we didn’t spend much time in the room so that wasn’t a deal breaker, just uncomfortable. There is a train very close to the property so just be aware that you will hear it. There is not anywhere to put your clothes in the room we stayed in so we simply used the luggage rack and put our suitcase on it. It also looked like they added water to the available soap to wash your hands in the bathroom so we used soap we brought. Make sure you read about when and how to get towels and such. We didn’t do this and missed the time to request more towels, so we just made do. The “office” was locked when we got home late from the park so we couldn’t access any ice or vending machines, so prepare for that. Very nice property overall and for the price!

The property was very convenient to Cedar Point and Sports Force Complex. Room was recently refurbished and very clean. Mostly quiet, except for the passing train.

Super close to downtown Sandusky and Cedar Point. Was a great place to rest after a long day at CP.

Didn't like the beds. No chairs and no lamps. Small end tables. Lights from outside.

It’s very minimalist, but everything we needed and REALLY clean. Great value. Online check in and out was so convenient. Customer service (via phone) was very helpful and quick to respond. Less than a mile from the Cedar Point Sports Complex. 10/10 recommend!

10/10 Recommend! If you are looking to stay somewhere after a day at Cedar Point this is the place! It is super clean, beds were so comfortable, and the staff were very welcoming! I will definitely be staying here again in the future. It was also much more affordable than other hotels in the area! They have an area where you can play yard games and have a bonfire. There’s also a food truck up front with a variety of options. Check in was also a breeze!

Our family of five stayed just one night in one of the family bunk rooms and found it absolutely perfect for what we needed! We all had a bed (which rarely happens!) and the room was clean, comfortable and spacious, and quiet! We met one of the property owners at check in (which we discovered was all online and super easy!) - I believe his name was Justin? Sorry if I’m getting that wrong!! But he was extremely nice and was able to get us into our room early! The location is also perfect - a short drive to Cedar Point, restaurants, and Sheldon Marsh Preserve, which we highly recommend if you are a nature lover! Also I want to mention the outdoor sitting areas in the front of the building (right by the properties food truck) and also in the back with the fire pits! It was so peaceful to sit out there in the evening and relax! We did have the opportunity to order from the food truck as well, and it was a delicious!! Overall, we highly recommend this hotel…!! Thank you for an amazing stay!!

Was in a great location to go to cedar point. The only thing with that though is there was a surplus of great lodging, but not much dining. We ended up hitting up the McDonalds on the way to the park to avoid back tracking into town. Amazing room and cozy atmosphere; I will absolutely be staying again.

Rooms were newly updated and really nice! Staff was helpful and very convenient location to cedar point. Will definitely be staying again! Oh and the food trucks were a plus!!
