Gurnee Motel

The room was never cleaned. No toilet paper, empty soap, and used bed. Smelled awful. Crackhead motel. You get what you pay for, I paid $55 so I can’t really complain, but if it were for homeless people, then I’m sure they would be happy. A drug addict would be happy. Maybe somebody going there for 10 minutes of sex would be happy. If you’re looking to stay the night and be comfortable and the slightest bit sanitary, no. Definitely don’t bring a child either the whole hallway was filled with smoke from cigarettes. Not to mention the picture I put here of how much of a fire hazard the place is. I couldn’t believe I was looking at this. Unfortunately, that’s the only picture I took. I took a nap after asking to get a clean blanket and sheet for myself which also was covered in something crunchy and dried up. Traffic is very loud. I can’t see this being good for anybody other than a person that just needs to stay warm.

I really wanted to like this place. It’s wrecked looking from the outside and there is no “Gurnee Motel” sign so I missed the turn. No problem, I thought. Chin up. The portico outside is closed off. There is scaffolding all around it but I don’t think it’s for construction. There was no evidence of work. I think it’s just gonna be that way forever. The man at the desk was very friendly and suggested I see the room before I signed on the dotted line so to speak. I should’ve known at that stage to run. He was very nice though. At first glance, the room wasn’t terrible. I was excited. There were two beds, a microwave, and a fridge. It didn’t look too shabby… Well let me tell you the tale of The Gurnee Motel motel room. There were eight lightbulbs in the room, three of which worked. The bedside lamps were supposed to plug into the wall, but the plug end was wrapped loosely white electric tape. Against my better judgment I plugged it in anyway and tried to turn the lights on. Surprise, surprise - it didn’t work. (2 down) Either way I would imagine it wasn’t safe. Of The four lights (which are presumably supposed to be fancy) over the sink and mirror, only one worked. (3 more down). The three that worked were the bathroom light (yay), the one over the mirror, and one on the wall opposite the heads of the beds. In general, it was very rundown. The front of one of the drawers in the room was not there. There were tiny flies in the sink. The smoke/fire detector was hanging by its wires from the ceiling with no battery. In general, the total disarray made me very uncomfortable.

Been there twice. It is the cheapest room you can get. So low expectations. The first time - saw a roach before we left. We were close to the office though so maybe that helped, maybe they spray the office area. This time - much further down the hall. Once I started walking down the hall I just kept walking faster to get out of the stinky hall. Smelled like a dog kennel. Room didn't smell. Sheets didn't look cleaned. Roaches found early on. Didn't spend the night.

1st, there is no signage indicating that this is the motel, 2nd, their are rooms with broken window glass & 1 that had the blinds just hanging out of the broken window, 3rd, upon going up the stairs the our room there was a horrible odor, 4th, entered the room to find the wall mirror with a large crack in our and a puece of tape over the crack, the door to the bathroom had no knobs on either side, just the inner parts sticking out, 5th I sat on the edge of the bed and felt like I was practically on the floor, 6th, the curtains are falling off the rods, 7th upon leaving after contacting Expedia support on this we noticed a roach on the door of the room. The pictures looked ok enough online, but PLEASE do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.

Did not like restroom. Shower did not work properly. Towels look dirty.toilet paper broke.Bed broke lights and outlet plugs terrible.Room did not smell clean floors looked like they had flooded. Or something soiled not clean at all entire room. Hardly no hot water. Did not deel safe at locations parking lot.

Came back from a long day. Around 9pm. Use the microwave, then all the power went out. Went to front desk and told them about the power outage in my room. They said there's nothing they can do about it. Ate in The dark with my phone light.

I have never given this bad of a review, but it is necessary. We get there and a few hours later my husband and I want to shower, they only put one wet and disgusting towel in the room that my husband said smelled like it was used. I called for another towel and more toilet paper because the barely there roll was sitting on the toilet with an empty one on the roll. I am then arguing with the woman at the front desk because she doesn’t want to give us anymore tp or another towel. She finally sighs and says okay and after 15 minutes my husband just went to get it himself. I open the shower curtain and there is a used bar of soap sitting right there. I refused to touch it and left it sitting there. My husband and I showered again this morning and as he went to dry his hair there was a dead cockroach in the hair dryer holder. There is a reason why this room is so cheap. If it is your only option then good luck. The chain lock was broken off our door and for being a non smoking room there sure were a lot of cigarette holes in the blanket. Right when we walked into the room it smelled like someone tried to cover up the smell of cigarettes with very strong cheap cologne that immediately made my asthma act up. We will never be staying here again and they need to get checked by the BBB or something. I woke up to get water and there were cockroaches just having a party in the sink. I drowned them all. Absolutely disgusting. I took another shower at my friends because I felt so gross.

Bed bugs old items in fridge slow check in no towels

This place should be torn down. The rooms were not cleaned, the trash can was dirty with someone else’s filth with no plastic bag. Bugs all over the place on bed, carpet and everything. Fried chicken left under the bed. I’m so glad I only stayed 1 night. I didn’t see no bed bugs but I’m sure the whole motel is infested. Crumbs all over the place. I would turn this motel into a migrant shelter that’s how disgusting this place is. Worst place I’ve stayed at in my life

Disgusting. Cockroaches everywhere

None smoking room smelled heavily smoked. A lot Cigarette holes on the covered sheets. Stains on all pillows, blankets and bedsheets. Bathtub had very huge gross stains on it. We didn’t dare to take a shower even we had a flip flop on. A left over cup in the fridge. I wonder if bedsheets and blankets ever washed. And the room gives you free pet Kroaches.

Room was dirty. We just wanted a place that was clean to be able to sleep and shower. There was crud on the floor of the shower, the sheets were gross, the toilet paper roll was broken, the drain in the sink was clogged, there were cigarette holes in one of the blankets, and the thermostat couldn't be adjusted. We ended up buying a fan and new sheets to get through one of the two nights we booked. We decided to go back home early rather stay the second night.

There were roaches. I haven’t killed a roach in years. The fridge has been cracked open for a while and the wood is damaged and the carpet I was wet. The sheets had a red smear on them. Not blood, but a red smear. And There wasn’t any courticy soap. And of course the bathtub was filthy.

There were Roaches in my room and in my bed as well as in the shower!!! The smell is horrible and smells of animal feces!!!!!! The room was dirty and has cigarette holes in the shower curtain, bedding, and window curtains. I WILL BE REPORTING TO THE CDC!!!!

Had bedbugs and refused to refund or book another room

I got to the room at night. Room was decent but had a nursing home ordor. The bathtub had some type of hair in it. When i went to turn on the lights i found 3 baby roaches crawling around the sink. Never again will i stay there!

The bed was broken

The room I was out in looked like an old utility closest. It was small, cramped. The bed frame was oversized and I ended up cutting my shin on it. The furniture was make shift and racks for a storage closest. The tv didn’t work. There were cigarette burns and stain on all of the bedding. The shower had a large amount of hair, spider webs with dead cockroaches. There was a horrible stench, like a busted sewer pipes, right next to my room. The pictures advertised for the hotel did not resemble what I checked into in any way. Had I not been short on funds and it being later in the evening I would’ve left.

All was fine until I woke up with the next morning and my boyfriend had a cockroach crawl across his face. I asked for a refund and left and they only gave me half my money back. I would expect a full refund for something like that

Staff really nice but place in good confitions

No one came to the window for 25 minutes And said it me and my guest needed IDs and my guest didn’t have an ID so they denied us the room
