We booked three rooms for two nights Aug 29 & 30 in the deluxe double room. Excellent hotel and a very warm and cozy bar/sitting area with fireplace. Emilio the bartender is wonderful and explains the making of the drinks (ask for a Negroni, his specialty!). Beautiful restaurant. We recommend eating at Restaurant Kjarr located down the street with a waterfall view. Excellent breakfast at the hotel.

The Hotel Klaustur is an exceptional property with exceptional staff. Looking forward to our next stay here. The room we had is the highest quality and sets the standard for luxury accomodation in south Iceland. Dining with the hotel is a highlight and the lounge area at the bar is very comfortable and a very nice place to spend time. The hotel is decorated with fine prints from around Kirkjubæjarklaustur that inspired us to seek more adventure. Great advice from Sveinn the manager took us down a little known road to some of the most beautiful views we have had in Iceland.

Ausser das der kleine Spiegel auf gefühlte 2 Meter höhe war und somit da wo er war kein Sinn machte... war das Zimmer sehr schön und komfortabel eingerichtet. Es war sehr sauber. Das Personal freundlich und hilfsbereit. Parkplätze hat es vor dem Hotel genug und das Frühstücksbuffet reichhaltig und sehr gut. Die Bar offeriert einige sehr gute Cocktails! Sehr empfehlenswert!

Friendly staff who paid attention to small details, my partner had told them he was going to propose and complimentary prosecco was in the room waiting with chocolates. The hotel and room were spotless and lots of attention to sustainability and eco-friendliness. Plenty of on site free parking, including electric charging spaces and the breakfast was incredible.

Most of the hotel is updated except for the bathrooms in the rooms. Mine seemed dirty (still had hair from previous guest in shower and sink. Also, one of my towels had several hairs on it. The part that ruined my entire stay was when I was checking in and the front desk asked me my name. It’s usually difficult for people to understand, so I spelled out my last name, and then first. She proceeded to laugh at my first name for a solid 3-4 seconds….. unbelievably rude. Can’t believe I paid $350 to be insulted and stay in a gross room. I didn’t even want to eat dinner at the hotel because of this lady’s behavior.

My family and I had a great stay at Hotel Klauster. It's in a beautiful part of the country, and a good home base for traveling to major attractions. The rooms were clean and nice, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was a good choice with plenty of food options. For light sleepers, I would recommend ear plugs, as the closing and opening of other guests' room doors was audible from my room, but this did not prevent us from thoroughly enjoying our stay.

Check in was smooth and easy, public areas have a nice ambience, rooms whilst a little dated were clean as a whistle and quiet. Bed was super comfortable, the buffet breakfast was probably the best we’ve had on our road trip with very good variety. We had to leave the hotel earlier than breakfast start time and we were allowed into the restaurant earlier which was very much appreciated. Would not hesitate to return.

Very modern property with attractive, comfortable rooms. The beds and pillows and bedding were all great. The bathroom, particularly the shower was enjoyable. Overall a very good experience. The exception being that the bathroom could have been cleaner. Hair on the floor, reddish-brown spots on stains on the toilet lid. But people are human, even good staff. The rest of the room was great so I guess they just missed these. Perhaps an update checklist or something?

The hotel is very attractive and clean. The staff were extremely helpful and efficient. The room was comfortable and a good size. Two small peeves were that there is only one light in the bathroom, making it rather too dim for makeup purposes, and we could only get warm/tepid water from the shower, not hot. As a person with dietary restrictions, I'd Also like to have seen more vegan/gluten free options, particularly for breakfast. Nevertheless, a good hotel that we would recommend.

There aren’t a ton of options in this area and we stayed here to be close to Vatnajökull. The hotel was very quiet and everyone there was nice. When we arrived we were originally in two rooms with only a view into a row of other rooms, but since we checked in on the earlier side they were kind enough to move us to rooms with a South view. But on our way to our room the person cleaning rooms told us to keep our windows closed because of insects. This made them really hot at night. Additionally when we first entered the windows had been open and there were a bunch of small non-biting bugs that looked like mosquitoes in the room. We ate at the hotel for dinner one night - it was very good but on the pricey side. The following night we ate at Systrakaffi and it was excellent for the price - easily half the cost of the hotel restaurant. Breakfast at the hotel had plenty of options, including some nicer choices of cheeses, smoked fish, and eggs and bacon - a great way to fuel up for a day of activities on and around the glacier.

The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing! They even had mimosas out with the continental breakfast! The front desk staff was extremely kind. We checked in very late and I had lost my iPhone charger. He checked the list and found for one for me and when he didn’t see one he lent me his personal cord for the night. We definitely recommend Hotel Klaustur!

We were very excited to visit Iceland and stay at Hotel Klauster. Unfortunately, due to the volcanic activity and my acute asthma at age 70, we needed to leave Iceland early. I contacted Hotel Klauster and explained the situation that we wouldn't be there to stay at their hotel. They adamantly refused to refund our stay. VERY upset at the lack of caring or consideration.

This was an amazing hotel to stay at. I stayed only for one night as it was just a resting place for me and my fiance to stay until we could drive again in the morning to our next destination, but the staff went above and beyond. The check in took less than 5 minutes, and they saw that we had come in with wet boots and immediately offered to dry them for us. We were able to get a reservation for dinner that same time. This final part is why I wish I could give more than 5 stars as a review. We explained that we would be checking out at 6am as we had a long drive for an activity later that day. This was an amazing hotel to stay at. I stayed only for one night as it was just a resting place for me and my fiance to stay until we could drive again in the morning to our next destination, but the staff went above and beyond. The check in took less than 5 minutes, and they saw that we had come in with wet boots and immediately offered to dry them for us. We were able to get a reservation for dinner that same time. This final part is why I wish I could give more than 5 stars as a review. We explained that we would be checking out at 6am as we had a long drive for an activity later that day. Noisy people. I think a hotel should tell each guest to respect their neighbors! Disruptive sleep after a very long day out. Also, I asked for a top floor especially for this reason way before arrival date but was just ignored and when we got to the hotel they ask for $80! more! First of all this hotel was very expensive to say the least.

We had a wonderful stay for my friends birthday. The staff wished her a happy birthday, left a note and complementry drinks which was a wonderful touch. Everyone was so attentive and friendly, room was spotless and fantastic view- would recommend to anyone the location is fabulous for anyone doing route 1. Overall fantastic stay and hotel

Nice hotel and friendly staff. Tasty European breakfast. Only negative was staff was slow at replenishing empty breakfast items. Ended up with cold scrambled eggs (almost empty dish) with no ketchup since the bottle was empty. The yogurt, porridge etc was fresh and tasty. The cod liver oil vitamins was a nice touch! Front desk staff was excellent for check in and check out!

We had a very pleasant welcome from Waldemar the evening we arrived. He was informative and gracious. In the morning, we had the best service from the young lady at the front desk when we departed. I neglected to get her name. We had overslept and missed breakfast and when I asked about the place across the street, she promptly brought us into the dining room and provided us to go cups to make coffee and THEN made us a lovely to go bag of sandwiches, fruit, granola and drinks. She went above and beyond!

My family and I had a great stay at Hotel Klauster. It's in a beautiful part of the country, and a good home base for traveling to major attractions. The rooms were clean and nice, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was a good choice with plenty of food options. For light sleepers, I would recommend ear plugs, as the closing and opening of other guests' room doors was audible from my room, but this did not prevent us from thoroughly enjoying our stay.

There aren’t a ton of options in this area and we stayed here to be close to Vatnajökull. The hotel was very quiet and everyone there was nice. When we arrived we were originally in two rooms with only a view into a row of other rooms, but since we checked in on the earlier side they were kind enough to move us to rooms with a South view. But on our way to our room the person cleaning rooms told us to keep our windows closed because of insects. This made them really hot at night. Additionally when we first entered the windows had been open and there were a bunch of small non-biting bugs that looked like mosquitoes in the room. We ate at the hotel for dinner one night - it was very good but on the pricey side. The following night we ate at Systrakaffi and it was excellent for the price - easily half the cost of the hotel restaurant. Breakfast at the hotel had plenty of options, including some nicer choices of cheeses, smoked fish, and eggs and bacon - a great way to fuel up for a day of activities on and around the glacier.

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. We had the most delicious dinner in the restaurant (highly recommend the mushroom risotto) and our included breakfast the next morning. The rooms were beautifully decorated (moment of appreciation for that towel warmer in the bathroom). This place seriously just felt like a cozy warm hug after a day out in the cold wind of the glacier. Our favorite stay and favorite meal of our 10 days in iceland.

Short but sweet overnight stay in Kirkubaejarklaustur. I enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant even with my late arrival, and had a very restful evening. The complimentary breakfast in the sun room was wonderful!

We absolutely loved this hotel!! Every staff member was so friendly. We ate at the hotel for dinner and breakfast and the food was absolutely fantastic! The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again!

Very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, and a great restaurant and bar. The continental breakfast was good, loved the Icelandic butter! Reasonably convenient to hikes and sites in the south part of Vatnajokull National Park, but a little bit of driving involved.

The room was boiling hot when we arrived and there was only a tiny window to open and a tiny fan to use. For $550 per night we expect to be able to sleep. It was definitely not a 4 star hotel, more like a Holiday Inn Express in US

We are a family of four traveling with our adult children in Iceland. We skipped Vik to stay closer to our next day's sites. I would recommend both this town and hotel over Vik. Service, rooms, restaurant, bar, and local town was beautiful and an unexpected surprise. Staff gracefully helped arrange return of an item I left behind. Would highly recommend and return.
