The Bartlett Hotel and Guesthouse

Confortable and clean room. There is an efficiency area with laundry and kitchen on the 2nd floor, very convenient for guests. Great location, near of everything.

This is a very basic hotel, but clean and pleasant. The front desk was available when I arrived near check in (3:00PM). My room was small, but I've had smaller for more money. This is not a great room to hang out in (a desk chair, but no where really but the bed to lounge around), but definitely comfy for getting ready & being out and about for the day and coming back for sleep! The restaurant downstairs has great beer, too. 2 blocks from BART which makes the city and surrounds very easy to reach. If you're a simple traveler like me, this is worth it! Very satisfied for what I paid.

There is no place to unload your belongings and no place to park on site. Parking rates are exorbitant and had to go to a different hotel to check in.

Overall decent, ok for a quick stay. No mini fridges in room. Bring extra towels or make sure to ask the staff when you see them!

The room was clean, the place was quiet. the restaurant attached is unreasonably expensive for what it is, and is very busy so its tough to get in. But the neighborhood has plenty of good options and its close to Moscone for conferences. Two things bothered me about the stay: 1 is the elevator certification expired 2021 and the elevator is terrifying. You can tell you are dangling, and it bounces around while moving. 2 is there is some roof unit that sounds like a woman screaming every time it turns on. You get used to it for the most part, but i still woke up a few times to it even 4 nights in. Bring ear plugs is probably the right move. I would stay again if no other options were a good price.

Didn't like the shared bathroom

No housekeeping. The window in my room was painted shut, no air conditioning. No dresser. No plastic cups or cups of any kind.

The place is a bit creepy. There is a strange music playing all the time (the same piece) there is no space for sitting . Nodoby in the reception. No possibility to leave luggage after checking out

Price=decent( specially if your on a budget). Location= excellent ( near the tourist spots, walgreens, burger king, basic necessities of a traveler). Staff= excellent( very friendly and helpful). The room we got doesnt have ac but if you open the window and turn off heater, it is comfortable. It has a kitchen and laundry that guests can use, but I only wish that water dispenser is more accesible after 11pm, they lock the laundry and kitchen so no water to drink after 11pm. Plus, hot water doesnt work either. Hoping they find a place to put the dispenser accessible in case guest runs out of drinking water.

It was a good hotel, located in a really convenient place for my trip. The only downside I had was that there was hair in the bed. But they moved me to a different room and it was great besides that. Comfy beds, secure, cheap.

Had a great time sleeping here. The room was clean but the building was pretty old and a bit dirty. There were many homeless people around the area but they kept to themselves and respectfully asked for money. I would stay here again.

Very clean, convenient

Knew that there wasn't going to be somebody at the front desk during certain hours but nobody was there during the duration of my stay, even though it was stated on the website that there would be people avail during certain hours. Building has a bit of a smell. Elevator is a little clunky. But it's an ok cheap spot. Happy that I got my own washroom

It was a good stay everything was close by. The only bad thing was there was a cockroach on the tub.

Very clean! Fresh and Clean towels, blow dryer was available upon request, clean sheets and bedding! Felt very safe, requiring key card entrance at the door and elevator. Window was single pane, but nice breeze through the window. Not quiet, but that’s the neighborhood we’re in. Need to check-in around the corner at Hotel Stratford. Otherwise, wonderful stay! Will stay again!

Very noisy, the windows did not isolate any noise from outside so I could hear music from bars, homeless people yelling, and cars all night. The whole hotel needed maintenance. Walls had holes in them, the elevator made concerning noises. There were no additional blankets in the room and it was a bit cold. Towels in the bathroom had holes in them. Water pressure was super low. There was never staff at the desk. I would discourage anyone from staying here.

Easy to check in, The Room was very clean, very good shower and a lot of kinds of stores around The hotel

No air conditioning, tiny elevator sounds like its breaking down, pretty dirty, cigarette butt/joint butts and used bandaids on the stairs the entire two days i was there. Intoxicated couples from florida arguing in the halls and outside the building, people screaming outside shared toilets in the halls. (thankfully my room had a private bathroom although water pressure was terrible) The give drink vouchers to the bar next door which has staff that refuses to serve people, or just ignores them. The area is trashy, literally trash all over the street and houseless folks passed out or screaming everywhere. Irish pub across the street is nice though. Only parking available is in overpriced over crowded parking garages.

They don't have a full service desk that you have contact all the time. Be careful some of the rooms does not have shower or washroom in them. The hotel condition is decent but it is old and wear and tear. My room was facing the street which had a good view however the windows were not blocking the noise at all even though I was on the 6th floor. A homeless guy was moaning and making noise all night and did not let me sleep until 4am. Also I felt like I am sleeping on the side of road (because of car passing noise overnight).

My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights. Both of us hardly slept either of the nights due to the heater making extremely loud banging sounds all throughout the night. It was so loud we thought someone was breaking in the first night it happened and we were quite shaken up and scared. Will never stay here again. The room itself was clean though so I’ll give it that. Otherwise; terrible experience.

Room was good for the price. Quite a bit of street noise late at night, though. Definitely needed ear plugs.

The room had zero view and the amount of natural light into the room was such that you need to put on lights every hour of the day. Of course this qualifies as a budget hotel, but even against that background, the hotel is very basic.

This location was very noisy but that didn’t bother me. Honestly for the price and location I thought it was a decent deal. Only big downside for me was no fridge in room. I need to keep my meds cold and didn’t realize no mini fridge. Otherwise would recommend for short stays or budget people. Just don’t expect the ritz and bring ear plugs if a light sleeper.

The room was screaming noise on and off every 20 minutes through the night/early morning. Not sure if it is piping, heating, or what, but literally unbearable to get rest to and be happy about.

Great great stay the only complaint I would have is that the WiFi is kind of spotty.

Location is fairly easy access if you are ok with walking a little. One block away from Union square, where tour buses depart. This is a rental without service (nobody comes in daily to make your bed and tidy your room, although they can do it if requested by phone) Check-in is done via the Stratford Hotel on the adjacent street. There is a box at the Bartlett to drop your key at check-out.

The hotel room was actually nice. Clean, simple, modern. There was no one at the front desk that i saw during my 2.5 day stay. Instead, there was a sign directing you to another hotel across the street where you would go to check in. It was a little inconvenient to not know that ahead of time, but overall it was fine.

Close to Marcone Center and Powell Street cable cars and Powell Caltrain station. No A/C. Unable to leave my windows open unless I was on premise and awake, due to the fire escape platform and stairs immediately outside my window. Front desk has very limited staffing hours, but even those hours were often not staffed. For any assistance I had to call or visit a nearby sister hotel.

I arrived at around 11 pm just to find a sign at the door saying that in order to check in I had to go over to another hotel around the street. Walked over to the other hotel with my luggage in the middle of the night just to meet the person at the lobby of the other hotel who was a rude, senseless, heartless, and mean individual! I had left my identification in my work back at home and at my departure airport TSA verified my identity and let me fly, I got to my hotel and this man would not let me check in even with a picture of my ID in my phone, my boarding pass approved by TSA for flying, my medical insurance card, credit card and reservation confirmation all with my name on it! He refused and said there was nothing he could do and let me to walk alone at night in the streets which was unsafe at that time at night and with nowhere to go stay! Definitely will never book there again even with my id at hand and someone like him should never be allowed to work in customer service!

The check in process is a bit odd due to it not being on site. I had no towels in my room and had to walk around the corner to the hotel I checked in at to get towels. The room was quiet and comfortable despite the single pane windows out to the busy sf streets. I still don’t know where the “key drop” for check out is…

We were never notified that the check in desk was at the Stratford Hotel, down the street, around the corner, and up a hill. Having to drag luggage to the check in desk, wait in a long line for one person to check in two hotels, then drag luggage back to Bartley was terrible. Don’t stay here if you’re looking for convenient check in or acceptable service

Absolutely great location. Used to sleep and shower and it was plenty. We would leave for the day and come back. The fan is the only real AC there is so we also had the windows open since it was not hot while we were there. We could've checked out at 7am but they do not have a bell service unless you pay additionally at another location for this around the corner. We went back to our room around 10:45am since checkout was at 11am and when we got up to our room our key did not work so we had to call the hotel and wait for a housekeeper to unlock our room. They said it was close to check out time so the card must've deactivated. Something to think about is that the front desk is not always staffed. We walked around to Hotel Stafford to check in and 90% of the time we did not see anyone at the front desk at the Bartlett. Basically if you are a needy person be prepared to put in some steps. There were two of us staying so we had two towels and the one for the floor when showering and that was it. NO additional towels. No hand towels or wash cloths were provided either so we lived with a bit of regret on not bringing wash cloths. Overall not bad at all. The nights felt very safe as well. We did not feel there was a vast amount of homeless people around the area unless you go off of that street.

Perfect for the price. They don’t clean your room daily. The front desk is only staffed on weekends, but they have someone at a nearby hotel that can take care of things. Very clean. Very quiet.

Good points : location is great, next to bus, train, cable car, friendly staffs. Bad points: the receptionist is not present often. The facilities are very old, the fan in my room is broken, the window is too low and dangerous for children. Besides , we can hear people in other room laughing at night very clear.

The property is ok for the price paid. However downtown is full of homeless people. Didn’t feel safe to walk at night so we always took the cab.

Great little no frills hotel in a fabulous location

I booked this on the basis of price. I was expecting a sub-par experience. I was very pleasantly surprised. Great rate in the heart of San Francisco. I was warned about the homeless problems in this area and while there was a bit of that, it was small in comparison to store owners cleaning the sidewalks in front of their stores. The room was small, for sure. But it had every basic that I needed. Also, the room was clean.

I would stay again. Great Central Location in Downtown San Francisco. Within walking distance of buses, cable cars, metro (subway) and the BART system. We spent 6 nights at the hotel and it met all our expectations. Thanks.

Ideal location.

This hotel was in a great location! We were in until square so next to all the food and shopping. And all to the activities we did had pick up from the hotel options.

The place is very clean and can be deceiving. There was no front staff available. Check in was in another hotel. The Bartlett Brew was good.

The surrounding area is very nice. There are tons of restaurants. The hotel itself had a good vibe.

Came out for all star weekend. This hotel out you in the heart of Union square, and walking distance to about everything including china town. Great little hotel. It's old a rustic but has a great vibe. The food downstairs in the bar is absolutely amazing along with on of the best brewer beer I've had. This hotel does it all for a person on a budget.
