Hotel was great for a stopover on our journey south, checkin was easy, room was great and breakfast ideal before we went on our way again. The facilities looked great though we didn’t get to use them. We would definitely visit again and would be happy to spend longer there.

Stayed 2 nights

We have stayed in the hotel numerous times because of the convenient location, and this time we appreciated the air conditioning. Unfortunately, we may not be staying there again, and certainly won't be eating there. On the first night we had burgers, which were good, but paid by card and didn't check the price. My friend then ordered and picked up a coffee from the bar and was a bit puzzled by the service charge. On the second night I ordered a chicken, leek and ham pie that was terrible and I didn't finish eating. Thick pastry, very little chicken or ham, a large broccoli stem that was too raw to puncture with a fork. It was £18.95 on the menu, but when I paid I saw a 'service charge' of £1.90 on the till. I queried this and the barman agreed to remove the charge. The service charge isn't shown on the menu, the barman didn't tell me about it, I couldn't see a notice about it, and I wasn't given a receipt. People buying drinks and food together probably wouldn't be aware of it. I think this is illegal under consumer law, and it certainly is sneaky.
