Imperial Hotel Tramontano

We had a room with a balcony and view of the sea. Hard to complain about that!… next to the elevator for the marina, close to the marina, 10 minute walk from the train station. Breakfast was plentiful including fresh fruit, eggs, pastries and more, and endless cappuccinos. We used the swimming pool one afternoon. Gardens are beautiful. Rooms are what I would expect in Italy… clean with an antique flair. Some call that old or needing an update… I think it’s part of the magic of the area.

Fabulous hotel, right on the coast of Sorrento, expensive, but location is great. There is an elevator directly down to the beach, which is very handy. Hotel has a nice bar with an outdoor balcony with great views. Bathrooms are a bit small and old, but that is expected.

My second time at this beautiful hotel. Perfect location, gorgeous clean rooms, wonderful staff. The only thing that I was disappointed about on this trip was that the private elevator to the beach was down for repairs and we had to walk down the street and pay for the public elevator. Other than that it was perfect and this will be temporary. You cannot ask for a better location in Sorrento - highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel, great hotel. Friendly staff that caters to your needs. Great area walkable to everything in the area. Lift available at the hotel to take you directly to the public beach. Chairs available to rent for $20 each. Beach is crowded

This hotel is in excellent location, but unfortunately the amenities wasn't good enough. The pool close early and the bar in the pool also, and do not open until 12 pm the food.

The property is in one of the best locations if not the best! right on cliff face with unobstructed views and a lift down to beach area close to port for day trips, Capri, et cetera

Elevator to the beach is great but be prepared to have to pay for chairs and umbrellas even as hotel guest. Grounds are beautiful. Pool does not have a view (garden). Service in restaurant not very friendly. Bedroom floor needed a vacuum. Would stay here again - probably really a 4.5.

Common areas are stunning along with a great bar and balcony view of the Mediterranean.

Property very clean. Grounds impeccable. Disappointed that the pool was not open later. Found reception staff abrupt. Best feature of hotel was location - wonderful view from our sea view room.

Loved our room with the ocean front patio . Very clean and cleaned up often with towels and bath products . Breakfast was included was very nice with excellent staff .The hotel has had many royal visitors and important writers . Lots of history here . Very close to the marina , train station restaurants and shopping . The views were amazing . . The only thing I didn’t like was the mattress was 2 twins put together to make a king otherwise I would have given it 5 star . Would stay here again if I ever have a chance

We had a great stay at Imperial Hotel Tramontano. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was huge & delicious, in a room with a stunning view overlooking the water. The bar had delicious cocktails and tables on a deck overlooking the gorgeous water view. And the location was perfect, right on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the water, plus very walkable to all the sights. Highly recommend that you stay here, you will not regret it!!

The main floor of the property was very nice with beautiful views and lovely dining area overlooking the ocean. Nice outdoor bar. My complaint was with the room. Very simple room that was very outdated with no charm. Not too clean. We saw some of the other rooms were very nice. Would have liked a newer room but they wouldn’t move us. Staff very nice and helpful. No air conditioning. View from room not great. Very good location for walking around. Breakfast great. Sea view.

Just had a really great few days here. The location is perfect, the staff were friendly and helpful, the public areas were comfortable and clean and the pool area perfect for relaxing in. Our (seaview) room was spacious and had a huge balcony overlooking the gulf and the port and was perfect for people watching. It was also spotlessly clean and the housekeeping service was first class. There were USB (a&c) ports either side of the beds, ironing facilities and a humongous shower! But (there's always a but!) we were amazed at the absence of tea/coffee making facilities which is a hotel policy decision. We spend over 3 months a year in hotel accommodation ranging from B&B's to 5* hotels and this is the only place where this facility was not provided. (Not worth dropping a star for but worth remembering to bring a travel kettle in future!) That said, the breakfast was great and we managed to survive until then. Special thanks to the reception team who were genuinely interested in your day.

Beautiful historical hotel with stunning views atop the cliffs of Sorrento. Clean rooms with comfortable beds. Our suite had an ample twin bed for our daughter in the salon separate from our bedroom. Lush garden area and nice pool area. Staff was excellent. Location is perfect for direct access to shopping and dining in the village. One night we ate dinner at the beach club restaurant at the foot of the cliff below the hotel. Wonderful food and setting. This was our 3rd time in Sorrento and 1st time at this hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed 4 days at the hotel. The location is convenient in the center of Sorrento and very close to the port. The service was generally good except for Mr. Vito at reception who doesn't have a very friendly attitude. The breakfast was good. The rooms need better maintenance and cleaning, could use a renovation, everything is very old. The view is spectacular.

The view is amazing and it’s great having the breakfast in the morning. The rooms are dated and our double bed was two singles put together. Pretty noisy from other rooms, cleaners etc. brilliant location to the town and overall a decent stay. Make sure you get a sea view room or it’s not worth it.

We were in a suite that was right below the dining room used for breakfast. The noise started just after 6 am. They did move us to another room. Wooden floors above us were noisy. They should carpet that floor.

Bed needs replacing- seriously sagging. Liked the shower.

The Hotel does. of have Air Con. They charge in excess of $700 a night and the rooms do not have cooling. We had to keep the balcony door open the whole night only to be attacked by mosquitoes. The hotel only puts the AC on during the month of June and September. This is ridiculous considering it was quite warm. when we raised this with hotel management we were was told, it is what it is. Terrible. Turn the AC on for your guest. You charge above average rates for your room, that’s the least you can do. ImDo. of recommend.

The view from our balcony was amazing, keep in mind this is a fabulous old hotel and the hotel rooms are small.

The first thing to say about the Tramontano is that it has excellent, friendly staff who are so courteous, kind and helpful. We last stayed at the hotel eighteen years ago in room 101 which was large and had a wonderful view of the volcano and bay. This time it was a much smaller room 107 but with a similar view. There were only two, minor irritations: no tea/coffee making facilities and thin walls! That said, the stay was terrific and we would be pleased to stay there again in the future.

In-room coffee maker would have been nice! Otherwise the room has the best possible view ever.

The service was beyond excellent. Needed to fix a lamp outage; the electrician was at our door within 3 minutes with problem fixed in 8 minutes flat. Needed to send out laundry, 2 maids (not one) at our door within 4 minutes. Needed a late night dinning recommendation and the place they recommended was not only open at 9PM but only 4 minutes walking and the food and service was out of this world. Needed a taxi, I was told 20 minutes it arrived in 5. Need my car brought in, was told 15 minutes, arrived in 5. Unmatched service in my view and I've been around.

We stayed 1 night, the reception was not overly helpful. The room, especially the bathroom was quite dated. The lift to the beach area wasn’t working and we had to take the public (paid) lift nearby. The beach - we had to pay 30€ for the sunbeds, 8€ for parasol and 8€ for towels. At breakfast they had a table with pre-made cappuccinos and teas, delivered quite cold, when asked for a hot one the waiter reacted in a patronising way.

Staff was terrific about arranging excursions, drivers and providing suggestions on activities. Views from our balcony was breathtaking.

From the moment we stepped in to this hotel we were blown away. The staff were superb and the unexpected upgrade to sea view took our breath away (and was very much appreciated). This was our first trip abroad as a couple in over 20 years and everything about this hotel made it very very special. The decor, location, breakfast, amazing staff and sea views. We were sad to leave but will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

This was a really nice property with a great view off the balcony. It also had the best actual Shower in all the Hotels we stayed in Italy. The front desk was not a welcoming as the other hotels. They still provided assistance as requested but just had an unenthusiastic vibe. Breakfast was good and the service at breakfast was also really good. We would stay again.

Absolutely fabulous hotel and staff. Although there are many local restaurants in the area, the hotel’s restaurant is on par with the best of them. Breakfast or dinner, they will not disappoint and the views are FANTASTIC!! Best views in Sorrento. Staff was friendly and attentive to all our needs. Will be sure to stay again on our next trip to Italy.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They even arranged for a takeaway breakfast for us as we were leaving the hotel at 7:00 to go to the airport. Will definitely be back.

Extremely disappointed with room assigned to us. Booked room with garden view 4 months prior to arrival. Front desk staff took no interest in our arrival and both could not even manage a smile. Got our key, a map to the city and directions to the elevator. Nothing more. Elevator broke down on way to room and second elevator was already under repair. Arrived to our room to find a dark and dingy 10X10 space with a dilapidated pull out sofa bed, side table and TV. Doors opened to small patio that had very high walls on all sides, no garden view. Narrow set of stairs went up and around a corner to the bed and bath area. Not all all conducive to a five day stay. Hotel fully booked, only change option was to second room same as one assigned. No surprise that these are the last two rooms assigned to guests. Contacted manager and expressed displeasure. He was very non-commital and honestly could not have cared less. Immediately offered full refund (simple way to solve his problem). Here we are in Sorrento on a busy long Easter weekend with no accommodation. So much for customer service. We were coming to Sorrento after two weeks in Florence and Tuscany with 6 other hotel stays. Very satisfied with everyone. Clearly Tramontano is busy enough that customer service becomes secondary. We dragged our luggage across the street to La Favorita. What a refreshing change. La Favorita to the rescue. Exceptional service restored our faith. Thumbs down Tramontano!

Some staff were alright, many rude especially the pool guy, bar tender and beach rental office. They should hire much friendlier staff that has good customer service skills at a place like this.

Our hotel concierge service was exceptional, similar to what one would expect at a luxury resort. Before our visit, we bombarded concierge staff with email questions which they readily answered, in English. During our stay, they advised us, made multiple dinner reservations for us at some of Sorrento’s most popular restaurants, and arranged for us chauffeur-driven excursions. We highly recommend this hotel for many reasons, and one being the helpfulness of the front desk staff. Thank you all again for your exuberant hospitality!

This hotel was all that we hoped it would be. The grounds were lovely. The hotel itself was very nice with a large balcony overlooking the ocean making it a great place for morning coffee or a drink in the evening. We had a room with a balcony and a sea view which was incredible to wake up to each morning. We even watched fireworks from our balcony one night! The only drawback was a very small bathroom. The hotel is conveniently located close to the square and we felt very safe walking at night. The elevator going down to the marina is right next door which was very nice when taking tour boats to other locations. The staff was very polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

This historic hotel has the feeling of elegant days gone by. Its staff are extremely professional and take pride in all of their roles as valued members of the team. Dining was a pleasurable experience both breakfast and dinner made to feel very welcome by Jack the maitre d’ and his colleagues. Giuseppe the bartender was amazing with his cocktail preparation and service.

Breakfast was horrible with canned fruit and sugary pastries. The lunch service at the Grill was sloppy and inedible. Rooms were clean.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Beautiful view, comfortable bed, clean room, and great breakfast. No parking onsite, but they will valet car for you, which is nice. My only complaint is the air conditioner was turned off for the season. Room was hot at night. Good thing I travel with a mini fan for the night stand. Could not open balcony doors because of mosquitos, tried that and lost that battle.
