Affordable hotel in beautiful Union Square area, with good breakfast and pool table. It would be great to have fridge in the rooms.

I enjoyed my stay at King George recently with one caveat: no working elevator and I was on the 5th floor. The curved stairs were not easy to navigate with luggage -- but I adjusted for the night and will be pleased to stay at the King George again in the future. Friendly staff, comfortable lobby, fantastic breakfast danish and doughnut offerings, and a clean, comfortable, quiet room.

The King George Hotel is a great choice for a short visit to San Francisco. The location makes it easy to explore the city’s main attractions. The lobby is charming and welcoming. Each morning, they serve good coffee and delicious pastries for breakfast,

The hotel does not look like the pictures. The restaurant was closed. The bar was closed. The hotel is dingy. The bathroom is tiny with no space to set out anything except on top of an electrical box. The lock on my door malfunctioned so I was locked out until maintenance replaced the battery. Not all of the elevator buttons light up. Someone penciled in the light was out. It struck me as odd that trash cans were moved from the street through the lobby. I will say the staff was friendly.

The parking garage is right across the street. 24 hour parking for $43 great price for the city. The hotel is so cute and beautiful. It’s in a great area. Walking distance to a lot of things and restaurants. The room is very nice, the bed is soo comfortable, and I really appreciated that the shower had great pressure and hot water. Also, the bathtub was really nice.

Property was conveniently situated in Union Square and was just a few blocks away from BART. Rooms were small but clean with comfortable beds. The main issue was that we didn’t have hot water for two nights of our stay! Front desk was unhelpful in keeping us updated on the situation and whether we would have access to it again.

Great hotel and in a good spot near Union Square. The room was comfortable and clean. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The lobby is welcoming and comfortable. It is a place where you could work, watch tv and play board games (they have several!). There was a bar in the lobby but it was not open while we were there. We will definitely stay there again!

The staff here are super friendly, the facilities are clean and well kept. I enjoyed our room, and the bed was really comfy. We had a hiccup where the elevator broke down halfway thru our stay, and we were on the 7th floor! It was pretty awful climbing all those stairs so we really made conscious decisions about what we were doing when! Lol. Thankfully it was fixed on the morning we left, because I was dreading carrying our luggage down.

There is no ac in any rooms besides the 1st floor, this should be noted somewhere when booking. The $15 daily resort fee is also unreasonable as this is not a resort.

When we arrived at the King George Hotel, the elevator was down and everyone arriving had a hard time dealing with it as the stairs are circular, straight up and hard to navigate, especially with a 45 lb suitcase. The elevator remained in non-working condition for our entire stay. Our trip would have been difficult, if not ruined, had it not been for the staff, especially Marissa and Dinah. They both went above and beyond to help us and make us comfortable. These ladies did not have an easy work enviornment as one can imagine. Guests were waiting or walking up to the 9th floor with luggage. Despite Marissa and Dinah having maybe one of their worst weekends at work, and dealing with very unhappy guests, they remained both positive and helpful. The maintenance and the cleaning staff were awesome as well. I hope they get a bonus for that weekend because the owners would be wise to keep Marissa, Dinah, the maintenance and the cleaning staff.

Hotel itself is old beautiful building ,my rooms carpet was soiled and needs replacement. Overall good location

The bath tub/shower was too small and the curtains kept rubbing on me. Some parts looked rusted in the bathroom. Not a bad stay, just very average.

In the description they never said that the how much do you have to pay for parking is just saying “parking available” and when you got there they are gonna charged you 55$ more. The room was dirty with hair in the bath, it was smelling bad, the carpets are nasty, and if you try to talk about refund to them they are gonna just said “I am sorry but you already paid, you take it or don’t take it, it’s op to you” this is the works place to stay please check another options before check in.

It was very clean throughout the entire hotel during our stay! Staff was very accommodating and friendly! Couldn’t be happier with the hotel and was convenient in location.

This place is cute with a very friendly staff but absolutely hands down the filthiest hotel I have ever stayed. The sheets were never changed, and actually had a previous occupant’s fake eyelashes stuck to them. I pointed this out to the staff on the floor. Instead of changing the sheets they pulled the lashes off. I could still see the adhesive! The sheets were the worst of it … but the overall cleanliness of the room was still a one star. Ground in dirt was everywhere!

The lobby was cute and felt upgraded. There are table games to entertain yourseld but the bar never opened and i overheard it hadnt been opened for some time. The simple free breakfast was advertised until 10:30 but they ran out of pastries before 9am and only had bananas and apples left with some coffee. There are packets of hot chocolate and tea available also, but no hot water. The rooms were clean but it is obviously an old building. The windows shook with a passing wind. The carpet was really old. The room had a musty smell upon entering. Staff was friendly at check in. Location is great. Lots of places to eat within a block radius and around the corner from union square and shopping.

Checked bags early. There was a bit of a lineup to check in around 4:30pm. Staff were friendly. Room was excellent with comfortable bed and very clean. Breakfast of pastries, fruit, juice and tea or coffee was offered in the morning but by 8:30 there were no pastries available. There is only one small elevator so it can get congested in the morning. Area is very good with lots of restaurants, theatre and shopping closeby. About a 5 minute walk to subway and Bart.

It’s an old building but clean and well maintained.

Clean hotel, comfortable bed, friendly staff. However very tight rooms and bathrooms. If you are over 6’5 or 300lbs you will not fit in the bathroom.

Nice hotel but noisy and hot plus no ice machine. But it was good

Loved staying here. My only complaint was that my room was next to a loud AC from the neighboring building but i just closed all the windows when i had to sleep and it helped a bit.

Super comfy beds and ideally located to access public transport.

I especially like the staff, the service. They’re very friendly and very helpful. The room was smaller than I would’ve liked, but they were very clean. The hotel was very clean . It was great for families. The bathroom was very large. I was very comfortable there, in the hotel. It was very close to shopping and restaurants

Was informed upon check in that the elevator wasn’t working. They were great and had our bags brought up. The room was very tiny. Literally just enough room to get down the sides of the bed and a desk two feet from the end of the bed. Bathroom is small and cramped. Bar was no longer opening. Overall the stay wasn’t bad but a little more room and a working elevator would have been great.

Great location. Clean, comfortable rooms. There was a fair amount of street noise, but nothing we couldn't sleep through. The elevator is very slow and small, so we walked up the stairs every trip except the first. Felt very safe and well maintained.

Friendly staff and decent bedding. Bare bones hotel. Tiny rooms, cramped bathroom. Good price, pretty clean, close to Union Square, relatively safe for SF. The hotel was not very full when I stayed there, but very little sound proofing in the rooms, you could hear everything happening in the hall. No air conditioning but there is a ceiling fan and the windows open even on higher floors. Be aware of that if you are going to bring kids, they could fall out. I would stay there again in a pinch.

The hotel is nice and in a good area. Rooms are a little small but that’s to be expected in an historic hotel. Carpeting could use updating. Staff was fantastic!

Dinah and the whole staff at the King George Hotel were so welcoming and accommodating. Dinah especially gave us such great service and was so sweet our entire visit.

Property was absolutely filthy. We paid for the most expensive room in the hotel, a superior suite, and not only didn’t get the room we reserved but the front desk staff, Indy, argued with us for over two hours about a refund while other guests piled up behind us as he ignored them when they needed help.

The hotel went above and beyond to make us comfortable! Great staff and management!

A historic boutique hotel that has been updated to retain its charm. Excellent location close to Union Square and to transportation. Abdulah, the concierge, is a GEM, as are all the friendly staff. I will stay there again. Two great restaurants that are within steps of the front door/.

I always stay at the King George when I visit San Francisco. They have never missed each time I've stayed with them. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I also love that they're super attentive. I was lone female traveler and I felt safe thanks to them. Very personable people. I believe the interior of the building has had some remodeling since I last stayed here (pre pandemic). The theme has always been English style lodging, meaning the rooms are on the smaller side; if you've traveled to the UK or anywhere in Europe before you know what I mean. However, the bathroom seemed much smaller than before this time. I'm pretty short myself and it was tricky to move around it without hitting something. It's like Alice grows super big inside the White Rabbit's house, that's how it feels to be in their bathrooms... and I get it, it's the English style but even when I visited London, I don't remember being THAT entrapped in the hotel bathroom. So if you're a claustrophobic person, I think you should stay somewhere else because the bathroom will freak you out. Other than that, it was a chill stay. Area around the hotel is relatively safe, so long as you don't make a wrong turn when you walk to the left side of the hotel (the wrong turn is the side NOT going towards Union Square). It's in a central location of the city so you're close to everything.

The staff gave another guest access to my room. Said guest let me know otherwise i never would have known. Night front desk girl was rude and abrasive. Obviously she didn't want to be there.

The King George Hotel is a nicely preserved hotel in the heart of San Francisco. It’s near walkable attractions like China Town, Fisherman’s Wharf and Lombard St, and near many good restaurants that don’t require you to drive. It is in the Tenderloin, so you will see many unhoused individuals nearby, especially if you go a block or so north. The rooms may also feel pretty small, so if planning to stay more than 2-days, utilize the storage spaces they offer so you can move around.

I like staying here because it is well-located and I can walk to major museums and attractions. Staff are friendly and helpful. Like many hotels in SF, this is an older hotel without snazzy modern rooms. But the rooms are very comfortable and are phenomenal for the price. I have stayed here several times and expect to stay again.

It is within walking distance of San Francisco's landmarks, including the SFMOMA, Yerba Buena, Union Square, Geary Street and the galleries. It is an easy 35 minute walk to Embarcadero Pier 15. And for those that don't walk, MUNI and Bart stations are plentiful.

This is a good location, seemed safe, but be aware the hotel is very very old. Our room was the size of a walking closet, but since we only needed it for one night, it was fine. The windows are not double pane so although we were on the 8th floor, we could hear everything happening downstairs and on the streets. A lot of police presence with the homeless population. I recommend it for the price and location. Parking is $55 per night but there’s a parking garage literally across the street for $43. They charge a $10 resort fee. It’s joke. There is nothing saying this is a resort and it never felt like one. Only one elevator, also very very old. Overall ok stay. Staff are very nice. Breakfast is coffee and a pastry.

Very convenient for downtown. Old but clean and great service. If you are bothered by street noise try and get a room high up maybe. Also no a.c. which was not an issue for my stay but if the weather was really hot might trouble some. Was there for conference - worked out great.

Booked a 3-night stay, midweek, last minute, looking for something affordable. This hotel was a pleasant surprise, well kept inside and outside. I would recommend for anyone staying on a budget. Great location for walking around Union Square, or a launching point for more exploration of SF.

Hotel very well situated, near to Union Square. The lobby, the breakfast area, as well as the rooms are very well kept. It is worth the rate they charge. We would recommend it, and return for future trips.

OLD and quaint place to stay. Great location to get around Union Square and close to all kinds of things . . . like restaurants and the cable cars.

Excellent value, comfortable old-fashioned hotel situated near Union Square. Nice staff. Bedrooms include bath which is a plus even if it's very small. Although breakfast is available free pastries all gone by 8.30 and not replaced.

The staff was incredibly helpful and the valet parking worked well for us. We were pleasantly surprised how quiet it was. Our only disappointment was that the adorable looking on-site British pub shown on the website had closed months ago.
