Nice and quaint boutique hotel in the heart of Winston Salem. The location is walkable to restaurants, bakeries, breweries, etc. It’s also adjacent to a visitors center if you want to learn more about the area. There is one small elevator that leads to three floors (you must walk up stairs to get to the fourth floor.) there is a downstairs parlor area with leather couches, tables, chairs, bar, fireplace, etc. They serve wine and cheese in the evening as well as milk and cookies in late evg. Breakfast is also served. The food looked good but not many hot vegetarian options. Plenty of cereal, muffins, etc. The room itself was very nice and spacious. Large room with comfy beds, loveseat, wooden wardrobe with small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker on one side. The bathroom was fine. Spacious but simple.

Satisfied with my one-night stay, alhough the room was a little cool. The temp outside was frigid and since the ceilings inside are so high, it's hard to properly heat the room. I'm sure during normal weather conditions the room temperature is fine. Our room was at the end of the hall closest to an exterior door, so we parked right outside our room. However, the card reader did not work at that door so we had to find a reader that worked. After going to the third card reader, we were able to enter the building. This was quite frustrating since it was so cold outside. Overall, however, I enjoyed the layout and generous size of the room. I would stay here again.

Great location and parking, with a gorgeous patio garden area. The old condenser outside was a constant loud noise that made it impossible to sleep but staff was very gracious and relocated us. Wine/cheese was a lovely touch. Breakfast staff were wonderful but the premade breakfast foods had tons of salt or sugar so eat elsewhere.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a comfortable suite. The property was very pleasant, as were the staff. Parking was easy and safe. Strange that a hotel of this class doesn't have a bar or restaurant though. I know they offer a glass of wine in the evening, but having to walk 10 minutes to find somewhere to go for a nightcap we found unusual. Feels more like a wedding venue than a full-service hotel. Breakfast was very good.

Always a great stay. unfortunately they now only give you one coupon for one glass of wine per night of stay at the nightly wine and cheese reception ( used to be unlimited). The bartender Shonda was such a nice lady! Love the vibe and large rooms with exposed brick and wood beams ( it is a former mill). They have lots of free parking and nightly cookies and milk. It is the only place I stay when i visit Winston-Salem. It is also located next to the tourist area called Old Salem. Housekeeping does a great job. The front desk staff are ok but could be a bit more welcoming. They are pleasant enough but it is the south and i have had much warmer greetings at other properties.

I asked for an ADA room. They have just one, and it was occupied. That was my main problem. The bed in our suite is at least three feet high. My disabled wife had a terrible time getting into it, and even I (5’6”) had trouble. The bathtub required her to step over a standard wall, which she found hard to do, with no handholds. Fortunately, we brought our own traveling handhold. The staff tried to help; they found a step stool to assist with the bed and a shower stool. We made do, but our spacious suite is a far cry from, for example, Embassy Suites. A few additions such as handholds in the bathroom and get rid of that ridiculous bed would make a big difference.

This property is beautiful. Old mill brick walls. Lower bathtubs. It’s clean. Front desk is awesome. Have you a cocktail and listen to some blues and jazz. Sit out side in the courtyard. No close restaurants.

The Inn was especially beautiful during our stay with all the Christmas decorations! The services and "extra events" such as milk & cookies are wonderful perks. The only thing I wish would have been different was the location of our room. It overlooked the courtyard where there had been a wedding followed by a noisy at times reception. (Side note - great venue for such an event) But I wish the new couple much happiness and hope they can return to the Brookstown Inn to celebrate their 30th anniversary like we did. ❤️

We wished the lovely bar downstairs stayed open a bit longer. The bartender was VERY nice and the ambiance was perfect. We wish we could have had a reason to patronize the place later in the evening.

This hotel is greatly overrated. The rooms are cold, we had to get a space heater to get some heat into the room. Then the fuse blow and the room was without power. After power was back on a water leak happened in the bathroom. Water came pouring out of the overhead light/fan. At night the space heater had a wind-howling sound that kept me awake. The window blinds did not have the rod to adjust blind angle so I had to climb up the window sill to reach the little know to close the blinds. The bugs and cobwebs between the two windows do not look good. All I can say, it is a highly overrated hotel.

This hotel is not very convenient location, close to downtown Winston Salem.The vintage feel of the property was lovely, but along with that came the creaking of the old floor boards from guests walking in the room above mine…while I was trying to sleep. Also, the windows were sealed, but with A LOT of very visible dust and cobwebs behind the glass. Hopefully, you won’t want to open the blinds as I did. The room and bathroom were clean with well-appointed necessities. The room contained a coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. The included breakfast buffet was okay. I did not partake in the unique added extras of evening wine and cheese, and bedtime cookies and milk.

Great Italian restuarant across the street. The walk to Old Salem was beatutiful and relaxing. The property is older, and could use some updating. The window in my room had cobwebs and dead bugs all in it, which was kind of gross when opening up the blinds. The bed was clean.

Stayed here overnight while driving through NC. Constantly heard weird knocking sound all night which disturbed our sleep.There were cobwebs ,insect egg shells behind the window blinds. The hot breakfast in the morning had nothing for vegetarians except for bread,beagle and cream cheese.Wouldn’t recommend staying at this hotel.

While the service at the hotel was excellent and warm, many details of our room ranged from bizarre to unacceptable. I found a few stray hairs on my unused pillow, there were rings of mildew around the bathtub faucet, and our room’s alarm clock (which we had never touched) went off at 5 AM. Additionally, the elevator and snack machine were both broken. Poor value for the price of our stay —

We were on the third floor. We heard everything the people said on the fourth floor. Every step they took sounded like they were walking in our room. You definitely need some insulation between the two floors. Also, the TV wouldn’t work. We finally got the Internet connected to the TV with help from the staff. But then nothing would play. No apps whatsoever would connect. Even the free stations would not play.

Nice hotel but the rooms need work. The blinds don’t block out all the light at night and there are no curtains. Our in room HVAC was woefully inadequate for the size of our room. One must run this shower for several minutes before receiving hot water (it’s an old bldg. with a boiler. The amenities and breakfast were nice. For the price I think one can do better.

1. The room had four or five large and very tall windows. The blinds were in very poor condition and the pulls did not operate - none of them. Street and security lighting poured in all night. Surprising for such an expensive room. 2. Abysmal water pressure in bathroom. 3. Room, while large, was pretty bare and undecorated. Maybe the “industrial look” was intended, but it made the room uninviting. 4. Internet was fine, desk staff was pleasant, breakfast was okay but uninspired.

Very nice overall. Parking good, bathroom nice. Bear in mind that it's an inn--a former factory. High ceilings, charming industrial feel, but you hear floor creaks from above and around. Cleaning staff excellent, good breakfast and milk and cookies. Good downtown location and easy to WF.

Historic old building retains the overall character of the building and time period. Rooms are large, but not very cozy. Windows have blinds that do not close well so with bright lights outside it is disturbing at night. Staff were pleasant. Wine and cheese in the evening was very nice. Weather was great so we sat out in the very nice courtyard and enjoyed our wine and a game of cards.

Amazing location, walkable to Old Salem and free parking. Very quirky rooms, lovely big comfy bed and well lit bathroom. Even has a resident cat! Only downside was bedroom itself was a little dark. Not enough to stop us returning tho! Nice breakfast and free water all day

Very nice hotel. Great breakfast although 7am start for businesses travelers is a bit late. Toilet in my room ran every 40 seconds so during the night I had to keep the bathroom door closed. Air-conditioning is a little loud but ok. Well kept hotel especially considering it's age. Would stay again.

We had a couple of room issues that resulted us in having to change rooms twice. The first was our fire sprinkler was leaking water in the bathroom. We came back from dinner to find it dripping and a big puddle on the floor. We were moved to the room next store and quickly found that the sheets on one bed were stained (big urine spot plus small brown stains throughout). We were then moved to our final destination, which was fine except for the fact that the ceiling creaked loudly when our upstairs neighbors walked around, and we were in double beds instead of queens, which is what I paid for. I inquired about a possible compensation for that (not to mention the inconvenience, perhaps) but was told I need to take it up with Expedia. That doesn’t make sense to me, but I will do so when I have time!

I’ve stayed at The Brookstown Inn multiple times over the years and it is always a nice experience. The only issue with this latest stay was, in the main building, the room we were in was rather hot (end of summer). The AC couldn’t keep up. However, Sara, with the front desk, did all she could to make things more comfortable, even offering to upgrade us to a suite. We decided to stay put (the fam was tired), so she credited a night back to us. The service here is top notch, and the vibe is awesome, so we will continue to stay at The Brookstown when we’re in the area.

There was nothing not to like. From the bartender to the lady on from midnight to 7 AM on Sunday night at front Desk their personalities are smile. They're welcomeness. You need more people like that in your business with a smile & there personality would be great. Look forward to staying in the future.

This hotel was built as a cotton mill in 1837. Each room is unique with some brick walls and exposed wooden beamed ceilings ranging in height from 12 ft to 25 ft. Upon arrival and checking in our room was 81 degrees and the air was not working in that room. The front desk clerk was very friendly and accommodating and immediately moved us to a different room to make sure our stay was comfortable. Our room was a loft with bedroom upstairs and a full living room downstairs. Most importantly the air worked. We really enjoyed our stay and will come back again. I almost forgot the breakfast was wonderful and included in the price of the stay.

We found this to be a very beautiful, unique and historic hotel. Staff was friendly and professional. Rooms were large and comfortably furnished. Very substantial breakfast was included in a beautifully appointed dining room reminiscent of a European manor. Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful place to stay . Love historic places so amazing. Loved our room . Not walkable to the breweries and restaurants. ( 26 + minutes but parking garages downtown or taking a Uber is also a great idea ) I’d definitely stay her again even with it be alittle further out then I’d hoped for , A must stay !!!!!

What a surprising gem! This was not only extremely comfortable and well cared for property, but very large rooms with safe and easy walk down to a historic district. Nice complete breakfast too. I would recommend moving towards dispensable shampoo etc to be fully in line with eco-friendliness.

Rooms were spacious furniture was dated. Great bathroom that had recently been redone. Hallways were in need of refurbishing. Breakfast area was crowded laid out poorly and hot. More thought into seating and perhaps providing a host to control flow was needed.

Beautiful property! Convenient parking (although a ramp would be helpful for luggage transport). Breakfast was a disappointment - not even as good or as varied as a cheaper hotel chain. I expected much better. Beds and pillows were just OK. Bathroom needs a facelift. I will most likely not stay here again.

Didn’t realize when I booked but the location had a complementary wine tasting. Everyone who went to it was sooo personable. Normally not my scene, but everyone was so welcoming. Great breakfast spread too. The area is very walkable. I took a nearby path and ended up at Salem College very close by. It is America’s oldest women’s college dating back to colonial times. Many of the buildings look that old, but are very well kept. Just a beautiful experience all around. Clean rooms too!
