The Read House Hotel

Quick one-night stay in this remarkable building from the old era with modern amenities and an outstanding restaurant. The pool was closed, unfortunately, although the Garden Terrace area was enjoyable. The lobby of this hotel is so inviting and comfortable. The rooms were updated and very large with more than enough space. In fact, the bathroom was massive.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom looked like it was newly renovated. The indoor pool was extremely cold and disappointing. We ate at the bar and the food was very good. It was fun to get a private tour of room 311!

Hotel has a nice vibe overall. The style is a good mix of vintage and modern. The room itself was adequate and nicely furnished. Nothing special. The TV system is severely outdated offering only cable channels and Showtime. Starbucks next door was good. Super expensive forced valet was not great, but expected.

Beautiful hotel great staff inside …valet was disappointing and no electric charging. Beds are ok rooms annd bathrooms are above average. Beautiful building on the National Historic Register. Excellent dining! Central downtown location.

Beautiful historic hotel, with reasonable rates. Valet parking only is a bit pricey, but is well performed with the option of in and out parking. Our room was small, but very comfortable. Enjoyed our stay.

Room was great. Tanner was the best bartender in the hotel bar we have ever had!! It was an incredibly busy Friday night - he made everyone feel important and was very attentive, professional, and talented!

Our stay at The Read House was amazing! The hotel is beautiful, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and everything was spotless. The historic charm mixed with modern comfort made it unforgettable, I can’t wait to come back!

The room wasn’t that clean. The shower had some mold and the air conditioning was either on or off so the room was either freezing or hot. Very expensive hotel and was expecting a very expensive experience

It is a beautiful hotel. The front desk was knowledgeable and kind. Our room was a let down though. It was really damp. The floor felt damp, there was visible condensation on the inside of the windows. The bathroom was very small but thats easily overlooked knowing its a historic hotel. The bathtub however looked like the enamel or paint was peeling badly. I would not let my son take a bath in that. We toughed it out because we spent most of our time out of the room amd didn't want the hassle of requesting a room change. If possible I recommend not staying in the manor house area.

Ants in the room. Three times the hotel was called to take care of it and failed. They just simply removed a waste basket. There were ants in the bed and crawling on bathroom sink. Disgusting and sad.

For the ratings on Expedia I guess i over expected. The shower had mold around the edges of the tub. The shower drain wouldn’t drain we had to talk to the engineers to unstop at night. The power of the side table on my side did not have power and the dresser that the TV was in was in some disrepair. The staff told me they were planning to remodel that rooom. There were others available. Why not put us in one of those.

The room was dingy to begin with. The bed was wet and I didn't realize until it had soaked through my pajamas. It was very loud and could hear everything around me. Not an enjoyable stay.

Hotel was very well maintained and beautifully decorated. Room was very clean and beds were incredibly comfortable. Was slightly loud on weekend nights outside the hotel but that is to be expected in a downtown location! Loved that Starbucks had it's own entrance from the hotel and the pool was very clean as well. Good location for walking to many restaurants. Valet service was excellent and timely. Will definitely be staying here again.

The bathroom was completely unfinished. Shower stall did not have tile completed on floor. Mold around the bottom o shower stall. Wood holding sink not painted. Floor flooded when taking shower because shower curtain had not been placed & was a foot off floor. Causing possible danger of slipping!!! We went down to English Pub for a relaxing glass of wine. And due to a convention of loud noisy men drinking, my wife had men’s butts in her face & they were very rude! We understand hotels have to make money when they can, but they have to respect other guests also. The people they were very nice at the hotel so we did not make a scene. But it was not the experience we expected!

Our room was not up to par the bathroom needs help, the sink faucet moved , the toilet paper holder was broken and the toilet made a continuous noise we had to giggle the handle to shut it up. Our room was in front of hotel and the noise from local traffic was so loud we Did not get any sleep at all, we would not stay here again.

The staff was super friendly. But we were in an older tower of the hotel and it kind of gave me “converted hospital” vibes. That said, the common areas of the hotel are beautiful and very well designed. Next time we stay there, I will be requesting the other side of the hotel.

Classiest hotel in Chattanooga. The history of being there since the 1800’s but modernized to be so hi scale I feel it is unmatched for the price. Room was ultra modern with an unbelievable bathroom and a spacey bedroom with sitting area as well.

Beautiful room and amazing location

Hotel lobby was very extravagant but our room was outdated. They had done wallpaper and little furnishings to make it seem less out of date. Bath tub was dingy, lots of needed paint to cover scuffs etc. our first night we got the shampoo and it looked like half of it had been used already so we threw it away. Staff very nice and the valet guys go above and beyond. Kids loved the pool but it didn’t seem heated at all. Starbucks was a plus! But the steakhouse is definitely not kid friendly, more of a date night spot.

Loved the theme of the hotel. What I would have liked would be a microwave in the room.

The hotel is very nice overall. But our room had no closet and the A/C was very loud.

The sound of water running through pipes for the entire stay was really unpleasant, there is also public parking across the street from the hotel, I did not know this until I heard valet sending another guest across the street, after I’d already been charged $80. I also called guest services, and waited three hours for a response. Service is not at the level you would expect from a nice hotel like this is striving to be.

I just loved everything about this hotel, especially the staff!! I believe it was Jennifer (or Jessica) who was absolutely amazing!!

Absolutely phenomenal. Everything was superb and all staff went above and beyond. Great location to the city and plenty of restaurants! Was here on business and will absolutely be back on pleasure.

As someone who has stayed at this property before, I will never return. While sitting at the hotel bar on Saturday evening, another hotel guest walked up to me unprovoked and struck me in the back. Not only were the security on site not helpful, but they appeared to joke with the person who openly assaulted me after the incident took place. This not only left me feeling unsafe, but I was made to feel as though I had done something to provoke said behavior from the other guest. I have still yet to hear from a manager about the incident.

Housekeeping started knocking on at 830! Front desk was very rude about it! Blaming me for it! I will not be back

They greeted us as we pulled up and took care of every need. I can’t say enough great things about this amazing hotel and the people who work there. The front desk, valet service, restaurant all super amazing and friendly.

The hotel is lovely and the service has been great so far. The staff are friendly and courteous. The hotel is clean and in a great location. We’ve used the valet parking and would highly recommend using it. Worth the cost because you have to pay for parking no matter where you park.

I stayed at the Read House off and on for more than 2 weeks. Each check-in was a pleasure. I have been in the travel industry for many years and know a gem when I see it. This historical hotel has the most accommodating caring staff…which is rare to find these days. Rooms are beautiful and location in downtown Chattanooga is perfect. Thank you Read House for making a difficult time in my life easier ❤️

We had an okay check-in experience. We used the valet for our vehicle (more to come on that) They’d charged the full stay on a card they didn’t confirm. Reservation said full stay would be charged at check-in, it was charged before we ever arrived. That has to be refunded and fixed. So, word of advice, only reserve with the card you wish to pay for the entire stay with or you may be put in a bind. The room was good. It’s cute. Smelled a little musty/old when we walked in. Didn’t pay much attention to that since it is an old building. Once the air was going, that got better. We had dinner reservations downstairs @ Bridgestone Chophouse. That was an amazing experience. Start to finish. Got Starbucks downstairs the next morning. Super convenient. You don’t even have to step outside. Highly recommend both. We left just before the 11am check-out time. You text them that you are out of the room & leave your keys inside your room. Super easy. We get our vehicle from valet. As soon as I sat in the driver seat I knew something was off. Tons of papers and stuff in the passenger floor board. We never left it like that. I start looking around & can tell things were moved. The console was completely ransacked, along with the glove box. The back of the SUV was completely flipped upside down where everything had been gone through. The valet guy has been brought over at this point & immediately tells my boyfriend “yeah we’ve been having some issues lately” Nobody said a word. Avoid valet!!!!

The Read House is more then a place to lay your head after a day of exploring Chattanooga, it is an experience. We have stayed here multiple times in the historic portion of the hotel and each time had a wonderful stay. The staff is friendly. The lobby and public areas are beautifully decorated, transporting you to a different era. Centrally located it is walkable to all the attractions in the city yet not to close so you can get some quite time when you return to your spotlessly clean room and ultra comfortable bed. I cannot say enough good things about this historic hotel. You will not be disappointed if you choose this as your destination stay.

I enjoyed being able to park the car all day and just be able to walk around town

Right in the heart of downtown area. Able to walk to local eating places and shopping. Coffe and food options right inside the hotel. Love coming here every year.

A little noisy at night if you’re not in an interior room but a great place to stay, restaurants are walkable or short uber ride.

Wonderful Hotel in the center of downtown Chattanooga. Service and rooms top notch. Restaurants on site and many others within walking distance. Will stay there whenever we visit Chattagooga

Great hotel property. Beautiful pool, new, novel, clean. Restaurants on site. Front desk tried to upsell me $30 for a room with a view. When I declined they said they had to upgrade me anyway. Deceptive. Chattanooga has a bad homeless and drug problem. It’s all over the place. So the area doesn’t feel safe. I’m a strong, fit man with self defence training. I didn’t love waking down MLK boulevard…other than that the hotel itself is very nice..

No breakfast except Starbucks on weekdays. Nothing else to order from on site. With taxes, valet parking service wayyy tooo expensive. Room had a wooden bench at the foot of bed. Needs to be elsewhere as I broke a toe when I bumped into it in the middle of the night . Ruined our anniversary trip

Beautiful hotel with interesting history! We had a wonderful dinner at Bridgeman's, enjoyed the indoor pool and walked to some other fun bars & restaurants. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again

We really enjoyed our stay at The Read House. Our room was lovely and comfortable. The location was great - centrally located to downtown and near shopping, tourist attractions and restaurants. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. The only inconvenience was that the only breakfast option during the work week is Starbucks. We did order the weekend breakfast available at the hotel and it was great. Plus, it should be noted that there are good breakfast options within a 3-5 block walking distance. But, if you need breakfast during the week in the hotel, options are limited. I definitely recommend The Read House and we will stay here again on future visits.

The property is stunning, meticulously maintained, wonderful food and drinks. The vibe is SUPER! Best lobster bisque soup, steak and service! The waiter even gave us complimentary crème brûlée for our anniversary dessert. It was yummy!

Rooms are beautiful! Staff is so welcoming and friendly.. they go a live and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. Room service breakfast was delicious. The bar area is cozy and staff are pleasant and professional.

Very clean room, friendly staff, really cool 20’s vibe all around. Only critique is the value regarding some of the on-site food options. My wife and I grabbed a quick appetizer at the Billiards bar but were really disappointed in the oysters for the price; drinks were also pretty pricey. Great stay overall!
