Best Western Palace Hotel & Casino

The outside of the building and reception are a bit dated, but the the bedrooms and sea views are amazing, the dining rooms are so very modern and the food was amazing, also the Chinese restaurant again with seaviwes, I loved the swimming pool, so slick. We used the casino, bingo and the slots, everything you need in one building defo booking again

The rooms were very much in need of a make over but thd staff are lovely and its faciilties and restaurant were fantastic. There is a lovely pool and good gym. The view from the rooms are amazing and in a great loction all round

It was convenient and plenty to do including swim, gym, bingo, casino, cinema. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were friendly.

Definitely NOT a 4 Star hotel, well past it's best. Needs a major overhaul to bring it up to 4 star, otherwise demolish it. Rooms serviced only once every 3 days, totally unacceptable. Sauna and steam room were out of order and appear to have been for a while. Bathroom was awful, shower controls very fiddly and the curtain attached itself to you all the time, allowing water to spill out onto the floor. The extract system seemed clogged and ineffective. Food was OK. We won't be returning here.

Typical best western hotel, run down in lots of areas, threadbare corridor carpets etc but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Expensive for what it is but adequate for a night or two! Has its own parking behind the hotel which is useful for parking motorbikes etc from plain view.

Great location and staff. rooms are fine, the reception, halls and exterior are tired but all perfectly functional. Nice restaurants and bars within hotel. The Pool and Spa are a bit of hassle to get in, you actually have to leave the main building and go outside, changing facilities are small and it’s a bit of a hassle to sign in and out but pool is nice once you are in.

Room was nice with view across the sea. But like the rest of Douglas it is a bit tired and past its sell by date. The restaurant was good and the food really nice and great value. Friendly staff in the restaurant. Pity the jacuzzi and the saunas were out of action.

Whilst it may feel a little dated and can be a little noisy in the evening, the facilities are good, and well kept. The beds were firm but comfortable and the pool & spa were very enjoyable. It’s also well positioned over the bay and within easy walk of the heart of Douglas.

Nice hotel that is clean and tidy inside. Outside not as good due to being shared with cinema beside it. Parking became full due to some "event" and forced us to park on the street until some apparent non hotel people left. Perhaps due to casino and restaurant inside the building, but seems folks staying at the hotel would have designated parking. Great stay otherwise.

We stayed here for 4 nights while visiting family at the end of August. Check-in was efficient and the staff we met were pleasant and helpful. On arrival the room was clean although as others have commented, the carpets, furniture and fittings appear tired, dated and in need of a refresh. The cleaning policy is to change towels and clean rooms after 3 days. As we were booked for 4 nights it would have been better to have refreshed the room halfway. Breakfast is a buffet which we ate once. There was a range of fruit juices but they ran out of water. I liked that there was fresh fruit and the croissants were fresh and flaky. The cereal selection was limited to individual packets. For cold options there was sliced cheese but no cold meats or fish. The hot options were bog standard bacon, sausage, eggs etc. I was disappointed that Manx kippers, a local delicacy weren't available but perhaps there is no demand for them. I liked that there are vending machines so that you can buy water when you want The hotel's spa is its crowning glory. The pool is a decent size for casual swimmers, the jacuzzi, steamroom and women's sauna worked well and the showers and changing room were clean.

Very clean,ideally situated,friendly and helpful staff but boy does it need a referb !!!Worn carpets etc. Aside from that i would recomend it.

Very friendly staff, good location. Room not cleaned or restocked the entire time we stayed: apparently this is only done once every 3 days! Would not have booked if this had been clear from the description. As a hotel i expect towels to be changed and coffee / loo rolls / essentials to be replenished daily

We where are from Friday until Monday morning with no cleaning of the room we had to keep asking for clean towels.

It’s been 15 years since I stayed at a hotel in the British Isles and things have not improved. The rest of the world has moved on. The eastern European woman that checked me in was fast, friendly and efficient. The local woman that checked me out was typically surly and uninterested. The room was dirty. In particular there was dirty water in the kettle which was discoloured and may have been there for weeks rather than days. This is a health hazard. In addition, they were seagull poo covering us substantial portion of the window both inside and outside! The bathroom was poor with a small quantity of lukewarm water, so I ended up taking a shallow bath.

The building is now very tired and would benefit from a complete refurbishment. It would probably be better to demolish it and start again. The staff were very cheerful and then rooms very clean. The breakfasts were very good.

Hotel public areas - very shabby in parts particularly foyer. Issue with toilet in room which was reported but no follow up from staff. Big groups took priority in hotel. Room however was clean and comfortable.

Rooms are comfy and clean, we’ve been coming here for around 30 years and the communal areas are in a terrible unclean state and smell, new carpets and a lick of paint wouldn’t go a miss. Travel lodge will take over in 2027 if they don’t address it.

The bedroom was ok and relatively clean, but bathroom was tiny ad shower pressure was really low The Patio doors on to large flat roof didn't lock and therefore let a lot of the external sea and traffic noise in to the room. Wasn't reported as wasn't there long. Not somewhere i would choose to stay again.

This hotel has a fantastic location overlooking Douglas bay. The towels were good quality & size. Most staff were very nice, apart from the person who checked me in, who came across as moody! Rooms at the back get very hot on a sunny day and with no air con, the room fan is not enough. With the window open there is quite a bit of noise from the car park at the back and people leaving the casino late at night making sleep difficult. There were only 2 plug sockets and none near the beds, so difficult when trying to charge 2 devices, and have the fan on and hair straighteners on at the same time! The WiFi was poor so I mostly used my UK data. If booking again, I'd insist on a sea view room which are in the shade in the afternoon.

Very dated & could do with being knocked down, more of a motel than a hotel. Room very clean just old fashioned, reception staff all friendly. Room noisy due to being just above the main extraction system for I suspect the kitchens.

Bit 80’s still having a shower curtain and when you install the rail over the bath so that the curtain sticks to you, incredibly annoying. Get the rail installed further away and have a longer curtain for Pete’s sake. And- Why don’t British hotels have fridges in the room? Incredibly cheap to omit them. Nice to have biscuits & water in the room thanks. Reception need to up their happy, smiling & customer focussed attitudes. One was good, one was passable & other stony faced. You’ll work it out. Breakfast staff good, kept it ticking over despite a crowd.

Second time I’ve stayed here and the room looking out to sea was a good improvement over the one facing the car park. It was a bigger room that seemed more modern and had amazing views of the Douglas bay. Breakfast is self serve and has most things you’d want from cereal, fruit, yoghurts, juices etc to full English so perfect for most needs. There’s a few restaurants on site and I’m sure you can find something to suit, I ate in the main restaurant and had the carvery both nights which was ok.

Satisfactory. Rooms at the rear especially on 2nd floor have intrusive noise from external plant. Beds not very comfortable. Staff good. Lack of flexibility with meals. Spa/swimming pool very good and free. Good location.

The room i had room 310 was constantly noisey due to the ducting on the roof had to buy some ear plugs to cope with it Other than that cant fault anything else excellent value for money

This hotel needs a significant upgrade. It’s very tired and dated. Staff were stretched and therefore less helpful that what you’d expect especially on the phone prior to booking as if anything requested was a bother to them. I won’t be returning.

The location and view were great! Housekeeping wasn't that great and the front desk person was not that friendly (compared to the locals of the island) - we brought our 6 year old grandson to the pool and on the 3rd time they told us that he wasn't allowed, only the 2 registered guests are allowed - so that was kind of upsetting since we didn't see any literature saying that. There is no air in the room unless you open the slider, but kind of stuffy at night when we lock them.

Overall a decent enough room with a comfy bed. The shower was temperamental and the hospitality tray sadly had cheap coffee..please move on… The restaurant however was the let-down. I’ve had better school dinners. Not asked whether I wanted to see a wine list, cafeteria style food (obviously frozen) and I sat next to a dirty and stained partition. Check in was chaotic as one girl had to battle a queue alone…she was very good but could have done with another member of staff at peak times

At a function. Bar staff whilst pleasant enough were not trained up to serve or make up drinks - we got some very odd mixtures and had to repeat/instruct to get the correct orders. Lasagne was AMAZING! Something wrong with disco due to WiFi - which was a shame. New mattresses were much needed and very comfortable.

Staff didn’t seem to be informed about food options. Mainly about room service for good. We were told different info from different staff at front desk.

Paid for breakfast, clear as day through the expedia app and confirmed vja online chat. Staff saying we cannot have it during check in. Meaning stress trying to contact expedia while on our trip.

Positives: Room Comfortable. Restaurant good and plentiful with helpful asian staff. Super location with bus stop outside the door. Lift to help accessibility. Reasonably good value for money. Negatives: Reception inpolitie. Severe lack of middle management. Fire Alarm was activated during the night. No proper evacuation procedure. Obvious lack of fire training for staff. No one able to reset the technic and all elderly and special needs guests had to walk many flights of stairs. No roll call or guest checklist. I would still come again and would only cautiously recommend this hotel.

The location is perfect right on the Promenade waterfront. Everything is within walking distance to The Strand for shopping and dining. Very friendly staff. The hotel is clean and safe but definitely very old and frumpy. In need of repair & updating.

Fairly cheap rates so didn’t expect too much beyond an average stay but well located and not too far from town centre and facilities. Room basic but fairly comfortable but a shame about constant noise from guests returning from the casino in the early hours so not very restful, but again should have expected that being a risk with the casino being part of the hotel complex.

Dining room very pleasant friendly if not always efficient staff, breakfast very good best continental I’ve encountered for some time, cooked looked good too, tea & coffee not so good cold on 1st morning though they did bring out more that was hot. Dinners were also good, especially the fish dish from the kitchen and very good value. I will stay here again and recommend to family & friends.

I appreciated that this hotel was a walkable distance from a handful of things to do, like shopping and the Manx museum. I also appreciated that they had a well kept pool and on the facilities.

The view from our room overlooking the Douglas Promenade is fantastic. Hotel is close to Electric Tram end, with easy bus service. Nice pool.

The Best Western Palace Hotel is a good choice for those wanting a holiday in Douglas, with the ability to walk to various local attractions. The hotel has excellent and friendly staff, but the service is limited. Caution: They only service your room every third full day of your stay. For a hotel claiming to be 4 Star, this is insufficient. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with plenty of space in the King Size sea view rooms. The public areas could use a refresh, and in particular the carpets are old, old-fashioned and threadbare in parts. The hotel has access to two restaurants and two bars. We didn't use the Paragon Bar, which is attached to the restaurant of the same name. This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We only ate breakfast there, but were happy with both the buffet and a la carte service. The second bar is Looky's, a newly refurbished bar are with comfortable seating and a reasonable range of drinks at OK prices. My one complaint about this bar is that it reserved tables for people from outside the hotel. This was disappointing, as as hotel residents one would expect to be ably to find a comfortable seat in one's own hotel bar. The second restaurant is the majestic. This is a Chinese restaurant with access from the Promenade and the hotel. The food here was authentic Chinese and very good value for money. The staff were very friendly. We ate there twice in four nights.

The hotel was a great location along the prom, sea view room was excellent, lovely view. Hotel facilities were great 3 restaurants on site all reasonably priced. Would recommend and stay again. Only downside was the shower needs upgrading, presently via the taps, power shower would be great!

I didn’t go in the Casino but I suspect that this was plush. The dining room for Breakfast was crowded but the food was quite good. The rooms and the corridors were very tired and basic in decor and comfort. The shower was outdated and didn’t work well. The toilet did not flush easily. The bathroom was small and lacked sufficient room for showering and ablutions.
