I’ve never bailed on a rental property until this one. The property was dirty and the bedding was filthy. We left in the middle of the night when we found the bed too dirty to use. The owner did immediately issue a full refund.Full details: We rented this property because the photos looked quirky but pleasant and the reviews were excellent. Check-in was simple and host communications were adequate. The house layout was odd—it’s obviously an ex-restaurant (commercial vent hood and fire suppression system still in place). The kitchen layout was odd but serviceable. The living room showed signs of heavy use and inadequate cleaning: The large area rug’s white background that was dirty grey, and the throw pillows on the couches were grimy. The vinyl floor had been mended with duct tape. The living and kitchen areas needed a deep cleaning. The tiny bathroom was so dirty that we were reluctant to step on the floor when we showered— but we had little choice, seeing that the bathmat was the size of a placemat and had been washed until it was paper-thin and full of holes. The bathroom smelled of urine; and there was a yellow ring on the floor around the toilet. The floor was so dirty that replacing it appeared to be the best option. The shower was actually RV-sized. When we turned down one of the beds, we found a dead fly, bits of black debris, and a clump of human hair. The fitted sheet had holes and was heavily stained in multiple areas. We alerted the host and left.

We loved our stay! The building has the perfect 1800s charm with lots of authentic character. Great location—easy drive to and from Gettysburg with plenty to do nearby. The space was clean and comfortable. Note there are stairs, but they add to the historic feel. The host provided thoughtful touches like sound machines, a well-stocked kitchen, a pool table for entertainment, and ample towels and washcloths. Perfect getaway spot for my spouse and me!

Great location! My mom and I absolutely loved the General’s Hideaway for our trip to Gettysburg. We even loved the pool table and played a few games. We brought my Mom’s service dog with us and the hosts made sure to include a bed and supplies for him if needed, which was very sweet of them. We brought food to cook during our stay and finding everything in the kitchen was a breeze! We loved the layout. The beds were extremely comfortable as well. Danielle and Jeremy made the whole check in process seamless and really easy, which was very much appreciated. Mom and I agree, we will be back!

The place was well located to all places we wanted to visit. The only complaint is the traffic. Side of home was no more than 10 ft from major road with tractor trailer buzzing by all thru the the night. The listing mentioned road noise but never imagined being in the middle of it.
