Amsterdam Hotel

The property was in a good central location, but unfortunately, one of the elevators didn’t work and the other elevator stopped on every single floor going up and going down so you needed to allow a minimum of 10 minutes. I wound up taking the stairs up and down several times and I was on the fifth floor.

Easy fjeck in and clean room. Elevator smelled ... needed a cleaning or new carpet. I would stay there again.

Courteous and informative staff (even at 1:30 in the morning!). Quiet building. Plenty of free parking. Fridge & micro in the room.

Warm welcome, nice attendant. Clean bed sheets. Room of another decade - beds were not so comfy, we coule hear the TV in the room next door (even with the noisy A/C on). Continental breakfast was minimal. Only one elevator worked, but stopped at each floor no matter what. It says it's ok till 2028, but I bet it won't last that long!

This property was fine for a quick overnight stop. It's an older property and the room was pretty dated, but otherwise it was clean and the staff was nice. They also have free parking and breakfast which was nice. It was fine considering it was a lot cheaper than most of the chain hotels in the area. I'd stay here again if I'm in the area again.

Over good stay. Cons: Nothing in the gym worked ( super old machines) ,no free weights. One elevator was antique and had to buttons had to be pressed several times times in order to register input. The carpet seemed a bid old, it bothered both me and my mother's allergies. Pro: Breakfast was simple but satisfying , staff was super friendly, location is great and it's close to everything, good price

The hotel seems to be an older property - it's rather a maze inside - but it's clean and well-maintained. One of the two elevators was out of service and undergoing repair; I'd say the second needs replacement as well (worn out buttons, nonworking floor indicators). My room was in good condition (except for a stain on the rug). It - and the bathroom - were very clean. The front desk people were friendly and helpful when I checked in / checked out. The hotel is on a not-terribly-attractive side street.

I like the quietness of the property and my dislike was not having a pool.

Needs to be updated. Nice staff but bedsheets dirty, rugs dirty, pillows ridiculously thin, hair in bathroom.

They are trying hard and the staff is doing a great job but there were unpleasant smell in our room and all around in the hotel. Windows were dirty. Can't recommend.

The room was very dirty. The bed has blood stains on the side of the bed, the toilet seat was broken, the sink was clogged that filled up the sink while I was brushing my teeth. I was so disgusted with the room.

The front desk and cleaning staff were really nice. Provided great customer service. Attentive and pleasant and helpful. The hotel is kind of run down but they do their best to keep it as clean as possible. The decor such as the curtains and bedspread and furnishings really need an update. And there's an old smell to everything in the rooms but I think it's coming from the rugs. The bathroom was clean enough though some of the grout had black in them although I could tell they tried very hard to scrub these old bathrooms. It was just a nice clean place to crash for one night, great parking, one hour out of New York city, freeway was nearby though you could not hear it. Downtown has lots of good restaurants. Wi-Fi worked well.

Cleanliness

Although the room was cleaned, it looked mediocre. The beds covers looked old and discolored as if no one cared. The pillows were terribly low and very uncomfortable to sleep with, we all got up with neck pain. The carpets throughout the hotel really need upkeep. The shower head was not strong enough and difficult to wash shampoo off long hair. Towels were fine as was the Wi-Fi. Did not have a chance to try their breakfast so no review for that.

The Amsterdam Hotel was an extremely cost-effective option in Stamford, where the average hotel rates have skyrocketed. That said, set your expectations accordingly. This is a dated hotel with old furnishings and no frills (although the included continental breakfast was a nice extra). However, the staff is friendly and helpful, the room was spotlessly clean, and it's within walking or short drive distance from whatever you want to do in Stamford. I felt like I got my money's worth.

The place could have been clean

This hotel is very dated. The mattress pad was ripped up, the bed uncomfortable the carpet was so stained n my shoes stuck to it! I was very disappointed and actually paid for 2 nights n after the first night I went to another hotel and took the loss! Expedia could have gave a better update of the property! I would not recommend this hotel ever

Front desk staff friendly, room clean, bathroom clean, comfortable bed, continental breakfast. Always reliable.

The room was clean but dated. The staff was pleasant. We suffered congestion when we turned the A/C on, suggesting mold. We had to turn it off and open a window, but that was noisy with the nearby train and highway. There were only two, thin pillows so we would bring our own if staying again.

The rooms were large and comfortable. Close off highway 95 and food available within walking distance. Very convenient.

This is a very old property. Room was clean but everything was so old, outdated. Windows were dirty. It's sad because the people were kind and customer friendly. If you don't mind a very old property, I guess okay.

A bit too warm and heat didn’t come down enough despite temperature controls. But handy location spacious room with table tv with tons of channels including STRZ, HBO to name a few. Room had microwave and fridge. Would stay there again and would recommend.

Overall, the staff was courteous and very helpful with any requests I had. I would consider the Amsterdam Hotel next time I'm in the Stamford, CT area again.

EITHER WORK OR PLEASURE I USE THIS PROPERTY 8/10 TIMES ANNUALLY WHEN I AM WORKING IN THE AREA OR PASSING THROUGH THE AREA . NICE, CLEAN, COMFORTABLE AND QUIET HOTEL. EVERYONE HERE IS VERY FRIENDLY AND . PRICES ARE COMPARABLE TO OTHER PROPERTIES IN THE AREA WHICH ARE NOT AS NICE.

Staff is helpful. Second stay here. Best deal in town… this time though there was something wrong with the AC. When I turned it to just fan a strange smell emitted. At first, Patricio said they were full; but after he came up and smelled it for himself, he was magically able to find me another room! Thank goodness! Next room was just fine! I would stay here again bc if there truly is a problem they WILL do something about it and that’s better than most!

Returned again to this hotel for a few days and what stood out was the efficient kindness of the front desk, staff and the excellent chambermaids cleaning of the room.

The clerk at the counter would not give me my room key. We did not get to sleep in the actual room and had to drive 4 hours back home.

At first I was like many reviewers and considered this a great value hotel. But as my stay went on my enthusiasm changed to meh. One night I came home to the police in front with some sort of disturbance. The breakfast had cold coffee and watered down orange juice - not impressed at all. As others have mentioned the pillows are really bad - flat as a pancake - needed four. There was no fitted sheet, instead just a second sheet laid atop the mattress - I could lift it and see right through to the mattress through a hole in the protector.. My room was impressively large but with no desk as pictured. Windows were kind of gross. The minifridge freezer dripped water. The front desk staff were pretty awesome though and housekeeping did a great job - I kept expecting to find bad cleanliness but found none, with the exception of stains on the ironing board. This neighborhood is not great, not terrible - but everything is steps away - Walgreens, Taco Bell, gas station/convenience store, liquor store, restaurants. Parking is phenomenal. I regularly parked right next to the lobby and in worst case right next to the rear door. So, mixed bag - if you really want to save some serious money don’t be afraid to stay here, but I would not choose it for a vacation with a partner or family.

Conveniently located in pretty part of Stamford

The accompanying photo of a gazebo next to a body of water. Where is that??? This hotel is in the city. We did not see that gazebo. The bed was not comfortable at all. Very thin mattress. Loud outside noise all night. Lingering smell of smoke in the room even though the hotel is non-smoking. Stains everywhere - wallpapered walls, bathroom fixtures etc. I was happy to wake up and get going.

Comfortable, convenient, inexpensive, good breakfast. Close to downtown restaurants in good neighborhood. We stayed twice and will always come back when we’re going through Stamford.

We had a good stay. Definetely an older hotel but everything was good. It was convenient right off of 95 but still quiet. It was easy park and not a bad walk to downtown.

The facility is in need of major upgrades. The beds were hard and terribly uncomfortable. They have slept a lot of guests and the dents in the bed bear witness. The carpets need a deep cleaning. They only had 2 pillows that were generally flat. The tv is operated by a streaming service that buffered a lot. Breakfast consisted of toaster waffles, several days old muffins and croissants.

There are no valid complaints. The customer service was polite and efficient. The rooms were clean and spacious enough. Being an older hotel, it didn’t have many amenities, but we didn’t need anything extra. The location great and the free parking was plentiful. The continental breakfast was mediocre, but not a dealbreaker. I’d definitely stay again.

Very friendly welcome, though the office staff did not know much about their surroundings and were unable to provide good tourist information or recommendations. That said, the room was spacious and clean. Bed was just ok. Continental breakfast was mostly bread (bagels, muffins, croissants, frozen eggos), no protein options. Hotel is a 12-15 min walk to downtown, restaurants and a big mall. There is also a free trolley that loops from downtown to the harbor.

Very nice stay. The continental breakfast was very good with nice variety. The only negative was that the bed was a small double bed that was too soft for our liking.

Quiet, good parking. It’s a bit run down, but for a night or two it worked out great. Breakfast is a bit weak and bunched together causing an unnecessary line in the morning.
