Old world charm, good atmosphere, great bathroom. Initial difficulty finding parking.

What an outstanding hotel, easy check-in, friendly staff, and an amazing restaurant with delicious food. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again, one of the best hotels we've stayed at for a long time.

A fantastic new addition to the Newbury hotel scene. The Coat and Bear is brand new, and while it still has some understandable teething issues with tech, the team could not have been more friendly and courteous throughout my stay. The rooms were renovated to an exceptionally high standard for the room rate, and the food in the restaurant is exceptional.

Stayed at the location for a trip to Newbury Races (Cost approx £10 in a taxi). Very good location with bonus of on site parking. Excellent bar and food choices. Easy walking distance to local pubs and restaurants. Would thoroughly recommend.

Rooms were spacious. Bathroom and shower fantastic. Bed very comfortable. a little bit noisy in the morning as we faced the car park and were next to the staff entrance. Bar and restaurant were very lively. Food was good. Don't expect an intimate gourmet dining experience as it's essentially a bar. Excellent breakfast. Staff friendly.

Early days for this hotel when I visited, only recently opened. However, loved the restaurant & room. Parking arrangements could do with a better explanation but could not fault my stay.

It took awhile to find the car park, no sign posting information to find the parking There shoud be some sort of info regarding the car during booking.It was all very stressful looking for it in a busy town centre with one system's

The hotel’s attention to detail was evident from the moment I stepped into my room—greeted by a charming handwritten note and a delightful selection of sweet treats It’s the little gestures that make a stay memorable, and this one certainly did. The hospitality was warm, the room was immaculate, and the experience felt genuinely personal. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates those extra touches!

Fabulous hotel. Clean fresh beautifully decorated rooms. Relaxing ambiance. Huge bathrooms fluffy towels and great shower. Bed so comfortable. Lovely welcome gift of home made cakes and sweets. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, staff all wonderful. Highly recommend, we will return!

Really friendly staff, our waitress,Jaz, was the best! The room was fantastic, super clean. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The deep soaking bath was really great and there were enough toiletries to last for much longer than our stay. Air con and heating was easy to set and with the smart TV we could cast Netflix and watch a film before bed. The food in the resturaunt was delicious, service was quick and we were happy to eat there both nights of our stay. We didn't want to leave and would go again without hesitation.

My wife & I decided we needed a "just the two of us" getaway, & this establishment flashed up as a great deal for our time-frame. it's easy to reach off the M4, which was great, & even on a Friday evening it wasn't a bark to get to even though we were expecting commuter traffic. We were quickly checked in & allocated our room (#8, ground floor rear of the court yard, nearest the car park!). We weren't at all disappointed with the quality, size & comfort of this recently decorated haven. Lovely big bed, twin chairs & a small table bearing sweet treats, a proper large wardrobe (made of solid oak), a modern & large flat screen TV (which had spare HDMI & USB ports for streaming or stored entertainments), tea & coffee making facilities (a pod machine no less!) & a lovely high ceiling to give that extra feel of space in spades. Plus there was a delightful handwritten note in the room to welcome us to the hotel; a great personal touch in my book! And then there was the bathroom... The deep free-standing bath was quite the attraction for my wife, who loves a good soak at the best of times, but this was going to be as luxurious as possible. The power shower unit, with deluge/rainfall head & the "handheld" option was just brilliant. A huge unit too, so it was great, with the controls being easy enough to understand, & not convoluted at all. All pristine & clean of course, with a very luxurious colour scheme, from the paint to the tiles; it all screamed class!

We stayed in a really fancy room. It was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. The bathroom was lovely with a separate shower and free standing bath. Plenty of lovely Bramley products. There was a fridge with fresh milk and water, tea, coffee and an Illy coffee machine. Some little sweet treats were left for us to enjoy. Breakfast was good too.

Website tells you to download app for room key, but staff told us it doesn’t work, so an extra, unnecessary step. Original room’s thermostat wasn’t working, so the staff were helpful in quickly moving us to another room. They were very accommodating throughout the stay. HOWEVER, this place was quite noisy because the restaurant had a door the banged whenever any worker went in/out, which was frequent. Additionally, the next room over came back with a group of people and cranked up music at midnight. The staff were quick to respond to our complaint, but the large group was left to stay in the room, which was still loud and disruptive for the following few hours. I hesitated to book given the environment surrounding this spot, but went off the good reviews. While staff was great, the surrounding noise is something to consider when booking, especially on a weekend.

The dining room and food was excellent with service to match. Rooms are extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated with every facility you could ask for. All staff were polite and attentive.

Stayed at the Coat & Bear while visiting Highclere Castle. I had a room with 2 beds and it was very spacious. The staff was very nice and the food at the pub was delicious. The town of Newbury is very nice and walkable and the hotel is only about a 10-15 min walk to the Newbury train station. I would definitely stay here again.

Some of the rooms are directly onto the street so can be noisy in the evening. Breakfast wasn’t included and was quite expensive for what was on offer. That said, the room was lovely, the staff excellent, and it was really convenient being in the centre of town.

Unfortunately left my apple charging cables at the property rang multiple times on the day I checked out no one bothered to ring me back.After speaking to reception on multiple days it appeared to have been taken. Very disappointing and very distressful people staying here and also house keep will not stay here again.

Good and modern hotel but the staff is not helpful. No one at the front desk at any time. Restaurant is ok.
