Hotel is in a great location, staff are very friendly and helpful. Gym is in bad condition unfortunately and is in need of repairs.

Fabulous hotel , although the bar at the Top of the Mark has fallen in service . We waited about 40 minutes to be seated & although a wait person said they would be right back , they didn’t so we left . This at one time was the best bar in San Francisco . No longer

You feel like you’re walking back into 1969. It’s rich in history and still very beautiful but desperately needs a refresh. Plan an extra 10 minutes to take the elevator. Staff were nice and very accommodating upon request but the room was bare bones. Not one water bottle, qtip or anything was left for our comfort. Fortunately there is a water refill station in the lobby but it was not working when we were there. With some minimal touches added you could really elevate the client experience.

Conveniently located in the heart of downtown SF, the hotel draws you in with its impressive architecture and interiors with valet service and bellmen ready to receive you at the doors. We loved our walk to the room through the beautiful entrance hall, and were charged by the downtown view. We got a great deal on the room, but were disappointed at the exorbitant overnight parking charges ($87/day). My overall experience was soured by their rather inefficient and broken valet parking system where after I sent a text message for my car as per their instruction and waited a good 20 minutes (yes, they expect you to give them 20 mins notice to get a car), before asking for some help on the matter. At this point, the guy looks at my valet ticket, seems to make a phone call and then asks me to "wait 20 mins" for my car (in addition the already passed 20 mins). I stick around for another 15 mins before complaining to another employee about this to finally receive my car 50 minutes after I sent the original text. The bathtub leaked as well.

The gentleman who checked us in was so nice! He upgraded because it was our anniversary and signed us up for the hotel benefits so we could get a discount. The view from the Top of the Mark is fantastic and they happened to have live music as well.

They charge 77$ US a day for parking inside. They charge 50$ if u want early check in - even if your room is ready - they won’t let u in without paying. Usually hotels want to see their customers return so bad policy.

Poor maintenance of the gym . One out of three trade mills works. Asked several times to the staff, no body addressed the issue.

No vending or options for snacks or food aside from Upstairs Bar or Downstairs restaurant/room service with both having limited hours. Called to have minibar and coffee station restocked after housekeeping did not do so in the afternoon during my first full day, but it was never restocked. Other than these complaints, the stay was excellent.

It’s old and tired. We stayed a week on the third floor and the hot water was tepid both in the am and pm. Work out equipment is old and several were inoperable. The people were all lovely!

Elevator is very slow. We had to use the stairs. Friendly staff. Historic accomodations!

Unfortunately the room was a bit dusty and dirty. The toilet seemed to be leaking and the bathtub wasn’t clean. A big disappointment.

We had an excellent stay. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and has friendly and helpful staff. The ping-pong table in the game area was a nice bonus for me and my teenage kid. The cable car stop is right outside of the hotel and another route super nearby. Several excellent breakfast places (as well as Trader Joe's) are nearby. The hotel is on the top of the Nob Hill, so walking to and from is a nice workout. We loved everything about the hotel and our stay!

Terrible hotel low maintenance very dirty

Lobby was beautiful! Rooms were a bit dated, however still very clean. Staff was very friendly and the location was extremely close to Union Square!

Valet was extremely kind and attentive. Room was clean and spacious.

This hotel provides none if the amenities expected of a luxury hotel. There is no refrigerator, no coffee maker, no bathrobes, and the windiws, through which you might enjoy fabulous views, are filthy. Do not bother staying here until they've figured out their problems

The hotel is dated and in need of a renovation. While it looks amazing on the outside, the rooms are dirty and worn. The bathrooms are small and outdated. The food at the restaurants is overpriced and sub par.

Fire alarm test went off for a very long time the morning of my conference 20 min?). Also stains on the carpet all over the guest room. The history of the hotel is cool, but it is definitely dated.

We stayed at the MarK Hopkins for an Anniversary Party with friends (held at the Tonga Room in the Fairmont). Check-in was slow and a bit disorganized but the room was lovely and we enjoyed pre and post-gaming at the Top of the Mark. Breakfast the following morning was delicious. Beautiful, historic San Francisco hotel!

We had gone into our room the temperature was 64°. The bellhop tried to fix the thermometer it would not work for another hour and a half we then had a electrician come up he couldn't fix it he had to call someone else up my husband finally had to go down to the front desk to get us to another room which he moved our luggage with them later that night had room service at 11:30 and 1 hour later I was throwing up the food so I had food poisoning so the stay wasn't very nice I have contacted them and the roundabout way they want me to fill out the claim form which we were told by the night clerk that he would compensate us the next day which I was so sick I just wanted to leave so I paid and left so very unhappy would never go there again

Our stay was good, convenient location for visiting our family. Room was a good size and clean, only downside was the size of the bathroom - tiny! We were on the 3rd floor at the front of the building which noisy at night with people standing outside and traffic noise. Not awful but to be noted. Housekeeping was amazing, very thorough and friendly lady. They charge a resort fee which you are meant to be able to use as a credit for food etc, we used the Top of the Mark cocktail bar but then couldn’t use for that! Ordered room service, the dessert was a joke, trio of cheesecake, tiniest bites of cheese cake and only two and a biscuit!

Beautiful historic hotel in the heart of Nob Hill. It was a short stay. The room had a beautiful view although the fog prevented a clear view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The room seemed to be showing some wear and had a dated bathroom. Otherwise, the stay was nice.

Heat not functioning in our freezing cold room. They tried unsuccessfully to fix this. Begrudgingly moved us to another room. This all after midnight. Won’t comp our room offered free breakfast. Great inconvenience in the middle of the night - room charge should be refunded.

Our first stay was a delight! Service was excellent! Rooms have spacious feel. Tall ceilings are very nice. We had a corner king with bridge views. Top of the mark is iconic. Especially fine is the veterans free shot of whiskey!

Great location with great views of the city. The room was a good size and was very comfortable we really enjoyed our stay

Overall, the hotel was very nice. My only issue was the bathroom was so small you couldn’t Cleese the door unless you straddled the commode.

Old hotel that was very drafty.

Great location if you are up for a walk on those steep inclines. We loved it. The room was very clean and the bed was great. HOWEVER the sink faucet for cold water had a mind of its own and you had to play around with it. The washroom window needs new seals as there was a constant sound coming from air trying to pass through, had to make sure the washroom door was closed at night but it still made it uncomfortable as we could hear the whistling wind all night particularly the second night we stayed. Some of the stuff in the hotel looks tired and needs to be updated for sure.

Came for my 40th Birthday. Had high expectation that the hotel would be awesome. Bought a nice expensive suite with no heat. Staff never informed me at check in that the heat system was broken. My room was 62 all weekend and I spent an hour trying to figure it out before I called the front desk. Was told I would be on a waitlist for a heater. Never happened. Hotel was having locks changed and didnt call or give me a specific time. Someone just showed up and knocked consistently for three minutes while I was in the bathtub. I had to send him away. Called the front desk which said notices were in the room and they called which never happened. Top of the Mark and the view in the Suite were amazing but service was horrible for a $900 night suite. I enjoyed the experience but wont be coming again, due to the lack of communication and absolute disregard for their guest's experience. Check out didnt even ask me about my stay. Note to Hotel: Checking in a guest with no heater is not acceptable. You can change locks on a Tuesday , not on a weekend or how about when the room is vacant? Poor management and poor communication is not acceptable for a almost 1k a night room. Hiding and evading issues from your guests is wrong and should never be apart of any policy. Not a good experience at all.

The hotel is in a perfect location in Nob Hill. It’s really walkable and very safe. The housekeeping staff is excellent. The hotel is a bit tired— dated looking, but so clean it makes up for it. I’ve spent two of the last 5 weeks there, and both stays had limited elevator access. One of the three was down the entire time I’ve been there. My son and I gave up waiting for it in the morning and would just take the stairs. I would be willing to overlook that too if the staff (minus the housekeepers) were even the tiniest bit nice. My adult son and I agree that their vibe is hostile. I wouldn't recommend staying there.

The staff was amazing with all aspects. I had an early checkin and even got to go to the rooftop when it was closed to take photos of the amazing views. Great place to stay.

Upon our arrival at the hotel, we were welcomed by the friendly housekeeping staff. Noticing the absence of a front desk attendant, she made the decision to call for assistance with our check-in. The receptionist took a while to appear and when he finally did, he seemed unenthusiastic about helping. He handed us our room key and directed us without discussing breakfast or their hours of operation. He didn't mention parking. But fortunately, we found the elevators conveniently located behind the front desk without his assistance. the following day, the front desk staff redeemed our check in encounter. The remainder of our visit proceeded smoothly. The bellman provided valuable assistance with giving directions and recommended where to board the cable car. Our hotel of choice when we come back to San Francisco will be this one.

This day was good however, in the middle of the night, our room flooded from the hallway where the ice machine had failed. When we brought this up to the checkout person, he didn’t even apologize. He just asked if the Engineer knew. I told him yes I let the Engineer know that the flooded hallway made it all the way into our room

Elegant and efficient entrance and lobby. Thoughtful, professional front-desk staff, clean, comfortable rooms. Top of the Mark, rooftop bar, was fantastic! Quintessential San Francisco - panoramic views, great drinks, live music, personable service ("Ms. H., how are you enjoying your evening at The Mark? Please let me know if this is anything else you require.") Timeless charm - felt like Tony Bennett might come in to belt out 'Fly Me To The Moon.'

My stay at IHG Mark Hopkins started badly as the desk clerk brought E.Coast attitude to the W.Coast! I arrived early and noted I knew this and just wanted to drop my bags and go out. What I got was attitude and poor service. He said he’d contact me when the room was ready. He didn’t! But then, I didn't expect him to! Far better service, from Roy, when I returned. The hotel just seems dated and in need of a makeover/refurbishment. There was peeling wallpaper in my room and the bed frame had odd 'repairs' and plenty of dust behind the bed. The hotel reminded me of classic UK seaside hotels I visited as a kid 60 years ago. Some things just seemed incongruous, the safe is newish and the coffee machine is new and great yet the TV is dated (with blown pixels) and the OSG is hopeless! But, the bed was comfortable! To check-out I used the app (after the language issues!) I feel a little bad about leaving a review like this as the hotel is ok, the bed is ok, some (most?) of the staff are lovely, maybe even the guy I encountered is a nice guy and was just having a bad day (just not sure why that was my problem!) The room was sold as a 'bridge view' room. I guess there’s only so much you can do about a 'bridge view room' when there are buildings in the way, but you do catch a glimpse of the GG between the buildings (when not obscured by SF cloud/rain) and I’m not complaining about it. I only visited as I wanted to tick off the last of the big four on Nob Hill. Oh well. Now I know!

Great location BUT know you are on top of hill so going up and down walking can be taxing, however the cable car stop is right by the hotel which is perfect

Really nice hotel but very little amenities. Also not really walkable, so if you’re looking for something that’s closer to shops, it’s better to stay down the hill.

While the property feels dated, everything was clean and the staff was attentive. My stay was pleasant. The area is extremely safe and clean with excellent views. However the walk up to the hotel is quite steep for those of us not use to SF hills.

Amazing location, be prepared for walking the hills.

The location and view on top if the hill makes for a quiet beautiful stay in San Francisco. The service and staff were excellent and friendly. We received great recommendations from Sal.

A fabulous location, with the best view in town. Magnificent Nob Hills and a historic hotel. The best way to see town is with the San Francisco Cable Car that stops outside the hotel.

Really enjoyed the hotel itself. Lots of history. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The location is perfect in so many ways. The trolley has a stop directly in front of the hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Good safe location; close to cable car pick-up; able to walk to local area restaurants & Chinatown; staff was very polite & accomodated our requests for extra towels & pillows as well as robes. Beautiful views from the Top of the Mark restaurant. Restaurant service & food was good, however, we did not like the automatic gratuity added to some checks & not others. They need to be more transparent about this.

This was a comfortable stay for an event at Grace Cathedral, also on Nob Hill. There aren't many dining options, though, and the hotel restaurant did not impress, either for eating in or room service. The service was great, but the food was- okay, not great. And pricey! There's just not much available on the Hill, though there are many options a bit further afield for those willing to go out. The standout for me was the helpfulness and knowledge of the concierge, Ric. He went above and beyond to be helpful, seek out information, and help me accomplish what I was trying to do.

The location is nice if you need Nob Hill. However you are on an island without even a place to buy a bottle of water. The closest thing to a snack, or a convenience store is Trader Joes which is a 6 block walk. We had not had lunch, and the arrived at about 2:30 pm. The restaurant closed between 2-5 pm. WE were starving, needed waters, etc. Island!!!

Beautiful hotel with good size rooms. Comfy bed and pillows Shower had great pressure and the soap, shampoos etc were so good Breakfast was the same choices everday so after 6 days was looking for a bit more variety.

We had a great time at the legendary Top of The Mark! The entertainment and food was excellent.

Loved this classic, old, historic, well located icon. The amenities were minimal, example, no coffee in room, soaps and shampoo on the wall only. No bar soap. Very little luxury other than walls itself. We had dinner in the restaurant and unknowingly (cost) ordered 6 bottles of water for the table which cost $60! And the waiter didn’t even empty each bottle! Beware of incredible SF service fees and taxes, of course not the hotel’s fault!

This is a historic old property with an elegant feel. Food was excellent in both the restaurant and the bar. Service was excellent!

I recently stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins for a work trip, and my stay was absolutely wonderful. From check-in to check-out, they took such great care. I was able to upgrade to a suite, which was large and very comfortable. All of the staff -- especially Rick, Sal and Al, were tremendously helpful with all my event items. The only negative is the state of the Top of The Mark. It's such an iconic venue with wonderful views, but needs to be cleaned and refurbished.
