The Vendue, Downtown Art Hotel

The location was ideal! Able to walk to just about anything. Staff was fabulous! So very friendly & helpful. Especially the valet, Dillion. He was wonderful. Very genuine in his interactions. The whole team was really great. We would definitely stay there again. Very unique property. We loved the rooftop bar & cookies in the evening! If you want to submerge yourself in the true atmosphere of Charleston, this is a great place for you! Just book it!!

A unique "art museum" hotel set in historic buildings in colonial Charleston, the Vendue offers a mix of great experiences and significant challenges. The price you pay for the historic location, excellent service, rooftop bar and quality restaurant includes significant challenges to mobility-impaired customers. The uneven floors, steep staircases and lack of railings can make it difficult to move around the property for some unaware customers.

Service was amazing! I love the eclectic room and the rooftop bar at sunset was a perfect ending to our night!

Excellent hotel in great location with extra touches like mimosas in the lobby Saturday and Sunday, nightly cookies. The artwork is stunning and really adds to the ambiance.

The Vendue made the money you spend on your room worth it in many ways. The staff communicates with you every day and offers additional perks such as a daily art tour, special tastings, glasses of champagne/prosecco, and milk and cookies each day. We used the complimentary bikes one day to explore the city and had a great time. Our room was cleaned every day and towels replaced at least once per day. The artwork in the hotel was fascinating and the location could not be better. We were right on the waterfront! You can walk to anything in the downtown area from the Vendue. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Charleston!

For the amount of money we paid, this was less than satisfactory, definitely not 5 stars. To begin, do not say breakfast is included when it is nothing more than a Pillbury croissant and a mini muffin. In addition, not everyone can bite into an apple: some need knives. I had to ask twice to get one. Why not use Revival to serve breakfast? What are your amenities? A five star hotel has a pool, gym and or sauna. The one asset was the roof top bar and a tour of your nouveau art and location. Art is not everyone’s choice. Hugely disappointing. No, we will not recommend the Vendue.

Beautiful area, lots to see and do, easily walkable, carriage rides, bicycle racks, and Uber are also available. Everything was great, only minor downside was not having mini fridges in our room.

Hotel was unique! Unfortunately the elevators didn’t work for my entire stay (3nights). I was positioned next to the service area which was quite noisy in the mornings. The area is ideal.

Fun vibe and nice amenities. Quick stroll to the waterfront, lots of dining and coffee shops, and the Charleston Market. Valet parking was efficient and could be done via texting which was convenient. Great rooftop restaurant/bar and nicer sit-down restaurant (dinner only) as well.

I think for the price, the rooms should have a refrigerator. I didn’t even ask about a smart TV because I absolutely assumed that the venue would have a smart TV. Updating would be a very smart move. We have traveled extensively and it was very odd not to have a convenience store or a laundry service available.

Lobby is beautiful and artwork is creative and funky. Rooftop bar was nice, bartender was great and food was good. The room well nice did have a musty smell to it and cleanliness was subpar.

The hotel smells like sewer - almost every room smells like mold and nasty sewer smell. There is mold at the edges of the shower window. The windows do not open and there is no air circulation in the rooms. Smells like mildew

The hotel was lovely. The room was clean, large, and very well-maintained. I love the decor.

Originally booked a room at the Enclave. Room was on ground level so lots of street noise and unable to open shade as window faced out to a parking lot. Floors in room were quite dirty. Staff was able to “upgrade” me to a larger room at the Vendue the next day. Room was larger and on 3rd floor with two beds and a fireplace. Like others have mentioned, weird odors in the hallways and I also thought the main entrance smelled like a gas leak. The bathroom vent was noisy and didn’t do much to ventilate. Bathroom floor tiles cracked. Walls and floor boards chipped and dusty. Bed uncomfortable. Didn’t feel that this hotel was 4 star quality.

The bathroom edge caulkings need professional works to remove the mold.

Clean room, friendly staff, free champaign

Decor was fun, bed was comfortable. Lively lobby and friendly staff. However, our “Premier King” was in another building which was accessed through a stairwell and 2 awkward doorways. The carpet in our room had seen better days but was the most off putting was the offensive sewer smell in the bathroom at all times of the day. The same odor could be smelled at various other locations throughout the hotel from time to time but seemed at its worst in our room. We had a strange set of approx 5 steps leading to the bathroom and horrendous overhead almost fluorescent lighting in the bathroom. Additionally, the door in our bathroom did not close all the way which could be an issue for some guests. “Breakfast” was delivered in a large brown shopping bag and consisted of the exact same 2 croissants and 2 blueberry muffins each of our 3 days. We had been told that there would also be juice delivered however there was not. The baked goods were fine but more variety and more imaginative packaging could go a long way in guest satisfaction. An in-room mini fridge would also be a helpful addition. Customer service consisted of texts from management. We were offered a room change but after unpacking that didn’t seem appealing nor did the optimism of another room being all that much better. We will not be returning and I would not recommend!

Location, location, location. That’s really all that was noteworthy. We were not impressed with the overall cleanliness which was lacking especially in the bathroom. Expected more given the cost and will likely not return.

Beautiful, historic hotel. Room was immaculate. Beautifully decorated. Service was amazing. Short walk to the harbor.

We loved the vibe and location of the hotel. Very cool art pieces and my husband loved the frenchies everywhere. The second floor setup was a little odd, owing to the age of the building maybe. Unfortunately, our room, which was a beautiful corner spot, had a musty smell. Maintenance tried to clear it out but it came right back. It wasn’t enough to make the stay unbearable but I think the carpet needs replacing and the AC ventilation cleaned. The staff were nothing but helpful and kind. Despite the room issue, we had a fabulous time here. Talk to the art gallery curator and definitely spend some time at the rooftop bar and restaurant.

The hotel was very conveniently located to enjoy the old area of Charleston. The room was relatively clean however the section of the hotel we stayed in (the guest rooms span what would have been 3 original buildings) smelled STRONGLY of mildew or musty old building. The overall vibe of the hotel seemed to be aiming at quirky but in my opinion missed quirky and landed in weird. Our stay was fine but I do not believe we would stay there again.

Room was beautiful and staff was very welcoming

We supposedly were upgraded to a room with a window (original reservation was without); however, we belatedly learned that the tradeoff was room size (#255 was really cramped). All rooms have their own configurations, so I would recommend inquiring as to size and location within the hotel.that being said, it is unique, upscale, well appointed and well located, and I would stay there again.

Enjoyed my stay. Great location. Attentive staff. We had to change rooms. The original room was so small you could barely fit a queen size bed.

Had issues with check in, ended up upgrading us to a room on the first floor which we didnt really like because with the windows open literally everyone can look in. The decor was artsy but kind of weird, all red and white. With the windows down for privacy, the room lacked lighting.

It's a fantastic location, steps from the waterfront and easy walking distance to all the great restaurants. My only complaint was that the room was noisy.

Very surprised to be in a room without window... at this price.... does not make sense

The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room looked great, but the air conditioning every time it kicked on sounded like a jet engine and kept us up throughout the night, we had a room that was on the first floor and we're woken up early in the morning by garbage trucks and some staff out in the hallway banging things around. In addition to that, I got home and hours after I got home I got a message that I was charged $51 for valet parking which no one told me I was going to be charged for when I checked in or when I checked out. As far as I knew we weren't even given the option to park the car ourselves, I thought that for the expense of almost $550 a night valet parking would be included. Breakfast consisted of a very small croissant, a tiny muffin, an apple, and an unripe banana. Again, for the price of one night my total came to about $600 and I honestly expected more for that kind of money. Luckily I had a good time in Charleston regardless, but I feel like I've been raked over the coals as far as prices are concerned regarding the Vendue

Check in despite them "trying" to be trendy was not efficient; they couldn't find our reservation and it drastically delayed our check in. They had a private party going on steps away from where they have deskless check in so it was very loud and hard to hear. We ended up going across the street where my credit card machine was not working correctly and charged me 3 times for incidentals that I wasn't made aware of. When we finally got checked in, the women who helped us was kind and showed us to our room; funny though, she even noted the musty smell upon entering. Did nothing. VIP Status was not honored, room was not as described, and the Art Galleries that were part of the attraction to the hotel were not available. The walls are very thin and the after party I believe was actually happening in the halls; woke us up for about 2 hours in the middle of the night, again nothing was done and it also didn't help that construction started at 7:00am and there was no notice of this either. "Free Breakfast" was 2 mini croissants, 2 mini muffins, a banana and an apple that they leave in a sack lunch on your door. I've stayed in all levels of hotels; from a Motel 6 to the Four Season and for the cost of a night here; I wasn't expecting the Ritz, but I was expecting more than The Holiday Inn Perhaps because I was a last minute Hotels customer or because of the great location, they felt they didn't need to try, I don't know... but save your coins and pick somewhere else to stay!

Exceptional stay. Art hotel with memorable design and art pieces. Received a great champagne bottle and upgrade on the arrival. Highest marks for Nicholas at the front desk - made our stay even better with perfect local restaurant recommendations. Highest marks.

We checked in without issues. Greeted with welcome cocktail and free room upgrade. On our first night our toilet was broken and spraying water from the back at 10pm. We sat in the lobby while maintenance fixed it. After that we were woken up all night with a faulty HVAC that caused the AC to make an intermittent clicking sound. Needless to say we did not sleep well. In the morning we let the front desk lady know. She offered to upgrade and change the room, a complimentary dinner and a call to Expedia to get a refund on the first night as she agreed this was a huge disruption. We happily agreed that this was fair compensation. That evening when a change of staff happened the next staff member said that they would just honor the room change and a $50 credit as well as 2 free drinks. We spent quite some time discussing this issue as i explained this was not what was promised. To make a long story short we were given a new room and dinner for 2. I would not recommend Vendue and I have told people what happened. When something like a 100% disruption like this happens there should be more done than room upgrade and dinner. The original offer should have been offered as we ended up spending the next day napping to make up for the lost sleep which disrupted our vacation.

The Staff by far sets this hotel apart from any other hotel. They go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. They learn your name and treat you like family from the time you walk through the door until you leave. This hotel has a vibe that I have never experienced in another hotel. The hotel itself is a must-see experience in Charleston. If you stay in Charleston this is the place you will want to stay.

The property and staff at The Vendue were exceptional. From the morning gift bags to the evening milk and cookies it was amazing. Nicholas, Jessica and Allison were beyond words for the experience they gave us during our stay. Would definitely stay again.

This was the best hotel experience I’ve ever had. They cater SO WELL to the guests staying here. From the second I pulled up I was greeted by so many nice people. If you’re lucky enough to meet Dannielle that your stay will just be tremendous!! She was THE MOST welcoming guest experience manager I’ve ever met. You can tell she sincerely wants everyone to enjoy their time at her hotel. Every little thing was thought through, I kept finding myself pleasantly surprised with each passing hour. And the art is just stunning, the rooms are so unique and clean. And the location is perfect. We walked everywhere. We will come back simply because our experience with Dannielle was so top notch.

Cleaning staff, valets, and front desk personnel were most kind, friendly and extremely hospitable. Tour of lobby's art exhibit was led by a woman (whose name escapes me) who arranged the exhibit and answered my many questions about each painting/ art piece and the artist who creeated it. The night manager, Gregory, was especially friendly and helpful to me on the night I arrived. We chatted at length.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The lobby was gorgeous and I really enjoyed the art on display. The staff was fantastic and attentive, and the room was extremely comfortable and clean. It was located right near the waterfront and was a great central location for exploring Charleston. I’ll definitely be back soon!

The Vendue is perfectly located in the French Quarter. Everything from the park, water taxi, shops, food, market, King Street, etc. were all accessible by foot. Not to mention the Rooftop at the Vendue was one of the best rooftop views of all the restaurants we visited. The staff was friendly and the room was great. Will highly recommend to friends and family.

Great location with excellent customer service. They check on you even before you arrive. Location is great for downtown Charleston. They have afternoon art tours in the hotel and a nice rooftop bar.

The Vendue is located within walking distance to many shops, restaurants, bars, galleries, museums and tours. The staff was friendly and courteous.

The property is close to the water very walkable The bed was very comfortable and the staff are very friendly and attentive.

My husband and I loved this hotel! It was cozy, clean, well maintained, decorated beautifully and included all of the perfect little touches that set it above most others. We enjoyed having the little breakfast bags delivered to our door each morning, as well as the turn down service each evening, complete with treats to wind down our day. There were always snacks in the lobby, and candies scattered around the hotel. We were offered a free bottle of wine or champagne upon our arrival as well as convenient valet parking. The in-house art gallery was filled with beautiful work from their resident artist, which we enjoyed during an afternoon walk. The staff was phenomenal! Everyone we met was friendly, helpful and always willing to accommodate with reservations or other needs. The location was perfect, right in the downtown area near restaurants and shops as well as the waterfront and fountains.If you have younger children you might prefer a more casual hotel with a pool, as this hotel is more appealing to adults seeking a quiet getaway. We will not hesitate to stay here again next time we are in Charleston!

Really interesting hotel, neat vibe. Staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Lots of interesting things going on and loved the nightly cookies and the daily French breakfast delivered to the room.

The art throughout the property was unique and beautiful. The Revival restaurant was 5-star quality!

Loved the room, and all of the artwork. The rooftop was our favorite.

The food was excellent @the hotel restaurants, as was the service!
