Church Street Inn Historic Charleston, Ascend Collection Hotel

Expensive for what you get. Church Street Inn sounds like it would be charming... its not. Rooms are clean but cheaply renovated. Comfortable, but nothing special. Zero amenities. Another Inn nearby offers breakfast and a great wine and cheese happy hour plus snacks in room. We will be staying elsewhere on our next visit. Just not worth the price.

This hotel is in the middle of everything in old Charleston. Parking is in an adjoining deck. A suburban sized vehicle is a tight squeeze. The rooms were clean and super quite. Our room was large and two stories. 1st level is a den with kitchen and 1/2 bath. 2nd is a bedroom, large closet, and large bathroom. The bathroom has a shower and 2 person garden tub. The tub is really useless because it takes forever to fill. Overall this hotel was wonderful for the price. Rarely do you leave feeling like you got a deal. My only complaint is that the property needs a little love because its slightly dated. However this would not keep me from staying here again. We enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is being renovated. The construction workers were mostly all quiet and accommodating to guests. We had 2 rooms that had been remodeled. They were very nice. It was quiet. The hotel is close to dining, shopping, a wonderful city market, etc. It has a wonderful courtyard. The front desk staff were great. (There is no valet parking.) I would totally stay here again!

Great location. Love the two story design—gives me privacy when I wake up at 5am. The courtyard is sweet and decorated with sparkly lights.

Location location location. It was perfect. Walked literally everywhere. They were doing renovations in some rooms and in areas by the lobby but it was fine. No noise and didn’t inconvenience us. Would stay again.

The location and the price make this a very attractive hotel. It’s small and only two levels. Our room had the living space, which including a full kitchen, downstairs and the bedroom up, This hotel would be primo but the general maintenance/repair aesthetics are beyond poor. There were half patched holes in the wall without touchup paint covering the spackling, making the room look run down. On the upside, the staff was friendly and helpful. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone willing to see the perks of location, safety, and price and overlook generally minor cosmetic shortcomings. Also, the parking is one block away in a large parking garage. Temporary parking is available in front of the building for loading/unloading, but long-term parking is in the garage. Guests are given a garage pass that allows for unlimited parking access

We picked this hotel for the location and were vety happy with it. The hotel was very unique with having 2 floors in our unit. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was perfect for our stay of 3 adults. Very clean and had everything we needed. We took advantage of the free coffee that was offered in the downstairs coffee room as well. They have a lovely courtyard thats lit up at night. We also paid the hotel for the in & out of the public parking garage that worked out great. We would definitely stay again.

Walkable to the major attractions: City Market (almost across the street), Old Slave Mart, The Old Exchange, and even catching the ferry to Fort Sumter with comfortable walking shoes. There is no restaurant in the inn, but they have fresh coffee and a lovely courtyard with a fountain. There are many restaurants nearby (recommend TBonz Gill & Grill). We enjoyed a lovely evening listening to live jazz at Forte Jazz Lounge. It felt unsafe out in the streets afterward because it was late, we were in an area with bars, and the college had just graduated, so I don't know if that was an anomaly. The inn gives a pass for nearby parking in the municipal parking garage at $20/day and you can come and go as much as you want. We had no problems with vandalism and saw no graffiti or loiterers in the garage. Our bathroom had some bad quality cosmetic finishing, but everything was sparkling clean, and it was well stocked. The bed was medium firmness and comfy! Keep in mind that Ascend saves old commercial buildings from being demolished and repurposes them as inns, which I applaud, so there are creaky stairs.

Left one evening for dinner and when I returned there was nobody at front desk. The door was locked and I was unable to get in the hotel, even with my room key for over 30 minutes.

Location unbeatable. Quiet. Beds comfortable for good night's sleep. Bathtubs/shower not senior-friendly. No breakfast. Paid parking (20.00/day) off site around the corner. Few outlets for plugging in electronics. A very good stay.

Walking distance to parking garage, shops & dining. There were some technical malfunctions during our stay - key card issues and a scheduled water outage by the city - but the location was great, our suite was well appointed and clean.

I wanted to stay at a boutique hotel to get the feel of Charleston. This hotel is old. As soon as you walk into the building you can smell the mustiness. Our hard wood floors were sticky. Our microwave handle was broken. The door frames and stair spindles, and bathroom were dirty. We managed to stay 2 nights and checked out a day early and went to another hotel on Folly Beach. Staff were nice and location is great for walking to the market and popular restaurants.

The room itself was in rough shape (broken door lock, dirty couch, dirty walls) The property’s location was the best feature. We were able to park our car and walk everywhere for the two days we were there.

We visit Charleston frequently and decided to stay downtown this time and tried Church St Inn because of the location right across from the market. From the moment we walked in, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming! We were a little early, but our room was ready, which was great! The property is older, but very clean and well maintained. We loved the fact that the bedroom was upstairs with the full kitchen and living area downstairs. It feels much more like a condo than a hotel room, which for our week long stay was fantastic! We met quite a few staff members and everyone always greeted us with a smile and gave great recommendations for dining and places to go. We will definitely stay here again!

Accommodating staff. BUT. -The coffee maker in room was terrible. -No handrail in shower. -There were no accessible rooms as we requested. -The wine glasses had lipstick stains in them and were obviously not cleaned. -Extremely difficult to read room numbers on doors because they were so worn away. -The TV did not function which is fine because the remote was absolutely filthy and disgusting. -the rug in the lobby is old and lifted which was a dangerous tripping hazard

Bed was comfortable and my husband couldn’t get over how quiet it was…no background noise or outside noise. Very clean place. Staff were very pleasant. No restaurant in the hotel but the hotel is right in the city market area and so many great restaurants, short walks to lots of places. I would stay there again, highly recommend this place.

The hotel is in a great location. Rooms are very large and work very well when traveling with older children. The condition of the hotel was fair. Carpets in the hallway were stained with a few rips. I have stayed here before, so I knew what to expect. I was a little surprised how un-attentive the front desk staff was. It was almost like we were disturbing them when we said good morning.

The room was not as clean as it should be: water stains on the wall, carpet stains. The bathroom fans were loud and dirty. Most of the staff was not very helpful or interested in even helping you get your luggage inside.

Excellent front desk staff and location! I liked the layout with the king bed upstairs and queen pull out downstairs. Some lighting was stark and needed warm tone bulbs! No reading/sitting chair in the upstairs suite… that was an issue - no where to sit and no floor lamp.

The "suite" was on two floors, kitchenette and living room on the first floor and the bedroom on the second floor. you had to go up a flight of stairs to get to the bedroom. I am handicapped and have to use a can or walker. this was not mentioned on the hotels.com website. Also it says valet, but there was none and they didn't clean the room once during uor 3 nt stay,even after asking.

Loved the location. Did not like noisy air conditioner in bedroom.

We had no hot water, shower controls broken. Needs paint , baseboards dirty. Air conditioning made a loud banging noise that kept us awake all night. Location is perfect.

The 2 level room with a full kitchen, living/dining space and 1/2 bath on the lower level and bedroom and full bath on the upper was a welcome change from most hotel rooms that have a bed and maybe an additional chair. The central location was an added plus.

We loved the layout of the room, it was just like an apartment with the second floor. The room could use being updated and refreshed. For example caulking behind the sink was cracking and pulling away from the wall.

Hotel should let you know on their web site that all rooms are two story, my wife had a very hard time getting up to the bed rooms on second floor. For the price would have expected something for breakfast (coffee/tea breakfast rolls) anything.. There was a coffee machine in the room but it was old and sucked and being a tea drinking, there was none. would not stay again.

Location is good, Suite was clean. No real housekeeping, every three days. No continental type breakfast. Limited to sub par black coffee only. The hotel owner should hire friendly front desk person. The young woman at front desk should not work in that position. Rude, no hospitality at all, does not leave customer with a good impression of the hotel.

When we arrived the front desk was unattended with a sign stating they would return shortly. We waited at least 20 minutes. When she returned we were not offered help with luggage or even a cart. We were charged $75 extra fee she explained was “in case we mess something in the room up”. She then gave me a paper that she said was the rules and pointed out a QR code to tip front desk and housekeeping even though there’s no housekeeping if you stay less than 4 nights? We did hear another nice gentleman offering help to other guests the next day. Our room had a chain hanging on the side of the door with no hardware on the other side and the deadbolt hardly worked.

Great staff, great location

My friends and I booked two rooms. When I got there minutes before them and checked in, they charged my card for the entire stay (not a hold), plus incidentals. They did not do that for my friends when they checked in. When I found out, I questioned it. They said it was their policy to charge the whole amount, so they lied to my face because they screwed up. When we checked out we said we wanted to split the bill. They said they would issue me a credit me for two-thirds. (takes 7-10 days, so I get to pay the interest). Then they gave me a receipt that didn't show the correct amount they charged. They said they would waive the parking fee and "not to worry" that it showed I had a balance due. When I looked at my credit card statement, they charged me not once but TWICE for the full amount plus incidentals, then another $75 incidental fee and then a mystery charge for ANOTHER $722 that had nothing to do with me. Of course when I called to talk to a manger, they weren't in yet. When I called Choice Hotels (they were very nice) they couldn't do anything for me and could see the $722 charge related to another person but couldn't tell me anything. Between the time I have wasted and the interest charges, I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Check in and out day shift staff was unprofessional, not welcoming or friendly. Did not even get up from her chair, we felt like we were completely inconveniencing her to check us in. We arrived at 230 PM and were told our room was not ready. (Not one room in the entire hotel). Were told not allowed to check in at all until exactly 4PM or later. Asked for a later check out and were told they were full and that was not possible. We did not see even one other guest our entire stay. No southern hospitality at thei Great location. Rooms nice.

Loved the friendliness of the staff and willingness to make our stay comfortable. Jaden was consistent in suggestions, helping with transportation back to the airport and head of housekeeping made sure we had towels and a clean room.

The location of this hotel is amazing. Right next to the market, a short walk to the harbor, and plenty of great restaurants close by.

The location was great, half a block from the City Market. The rooms were very nice, 2 floors with kitchen, bathroom and TV area on the first floor, beds and bathroom on the upper floor.

Great for longer stays as it has a kitchenette. Interior is dated but you can not beat the location

This hotel was in a great location that was convenient to shopping and restaurants. Unfortunately, the person at the front desk when we checked in was extremely rude. We asked for towels after the second day and never received them. When we approached the desk clerk, we were (reluctantly) given the towels. The hotel needs some upkeep and could work on cleanliness. The courtyard is beautiful. When we booked the trip, the hotel advertised a full breakfast but we were told that there was no breakfast available except coffee. Note: I’ve NEVER left a bad review of a hotel but felt it necessary for future patrons.

Unique two story suite - worked well for us. Good kitchen with full size refrigerator. Hotel is very conveniently located. Only issue was it is classified as long term - so no cleaning during stay. Nice courtyard area. Free coffee in morning. Friendly staff
