Hotel was nice enough, just not the greatest place to walk around outside. Be aware the parking is “Valet Only” which adds to the cost of your stay. I did not see that anywhere on the Expedia website.

It was a good location and nice staff, but there were little things that add up to big issues when I want to spend a night at a nice hotel. The room was nice, but there were pretty much no channels that I could watch because of buffering, the ice machine was broken, and the hot tub was out of commission.

Only advantage is the walkable location. Otherwise, everything about the hotel is a bit wonky and neglected. Drains clogged, funky smells, elevators have broken parts, hot tub is drained, mandatory valet. Not worth the high price.

Very friendly staff! Easy check-in. Good, central, walkable location for exploring downtown. Tons of scooters nearby as well to get around town. Easy walk to Waterside restaurants. The hotel needs some love; there is a lot of deferred maintenance especially in the pool area (hot tub was out of order and pool needs resealing. Drains around the pool deck were completely clogged and not draining so there was a lot of standing water), the bathroom inside our room needed some TLC. Shower handle barely worked and I was afraid to turn it out of fear of breaking it. The key cards only worked maybe half the time. Our room smelled musty.

This was a standard Courtyard. I only have two complaints. One, the building was hot. The common areas were not air conditioned. Once you left your room you would sweat. Also, the hot tub was empty and that information was not available when I booked.

Carpet had clear accumulation of dirt and sheets had blood on them. Towels smelled as though they hadn’t been refreshed recently. Would recommend replacing carpets asap. Staff were incredibly kind!

Hotel is a bit on the dirtier side and needs a bit of updating. One of the elevators is not in the best of working condition. Seen a very large cockroach in the lobby so could use a company to spray. My bathroom sink would not drain. Convienet location close to the court house, walking distance to the waterfront which was nice!

Not a very good experience. The room smelled like mildew, it was dirty (I found dirty dental pick in the bathroom), couch stained, carpet dirty. Tv wasn’t working, we asked to get it fixed but no one showed up. We would not stay there again.

I got 10 bed bugs bites on my legs after the two days stay in this hotel. I am still suffering itchy and each bump keep discharging pus now. I never write the review to the experience by staying the hotel. But I have to tell anyone else trying to book this hotel to avoid same problem on it.

I moved to two different rooms n they all had dirty bathrooms. I didnt feel like moving all my stuff AGAIN so i just settled. Hair was in both rooms, soap dispenser had old soap bubbled up on it and then they sat my new soap wrapped in new package on top. The bedding had some gooey stuff on it. The diner downstairs is super limited in food options and the place charges 25.00 per vehicle per day along with the over 200.00 per night room. It was NOT worth it.

The room had a mildew odor that I smelled in hallway in front of the room door. An employee came up and changed the hvac filter which helped just a bit but the HVAC system didnt even work. Tried to turn on the heat and nothing happened. It just blew cool air the entire time. Overall the bed was comfy and the shower was powerful. The valet service was great. It's just old rooms that need updating. I wouldn't stay again due to the mildew smell.

The staff is super cool and welcoming but the condition of the room is what lead me to my scores here...the couch had a huge stain, there were a pair of used socks in the bed when we pulled the covers back and the fixtures in the room a bit worn out. Upgrades are definitely in order here!

The staff were very nice, my room was clean however the carpet smelled really bad and my Internet kept going out so I was not able to watch television when I couldn’t go to sleep. The staff at the bar were new and not bartenders, so they didn’t know how to make drinks; I asked them to Google it. The property needs to be refurbished. The carpet is dirty, The walls are dirty and the elevator doors need to be replaced on the inside. They’re really really stained. For my inconvenience of not having Internet, I was given two free meals at the bistro.

First of all you have to pay 25 dollars for parking each day which is terrible. The air conditioning in the halls were broken. The sofas were dirty. The beds were not comfortable. I enjoyed the pool and hot tub even though the water in the pool was really cold. Honestly i want be visiting this hotel anymore.

It was close to the venue we were going to so it was very walkable, the staff were nice, and the valet service was convenient. The place just needs renovating- it’s an old building. Our room had a weird, pungent smell that wouldn’t go away and the bedside charging outlets didn’t work.

I am giving 2 stars to ensure my review is not immediately discarded as a disgruntled customer. Our room had at least 12 plugs that did not work. There were 2 working plugs and one working USB, none of which were in the bathroom, that we rotated through 11 devices. The toilet was chipped and old, the shower drain was clogged, the sheets were old to the point of losing elasticity, the tv was old and took an extended period of time to log on and click through Netflix. The closed captions didn't work. The view was the worst view I've ever had of a power plant. I felt like I stepped from a room in 2025 (Durham) to a room that hadn't been updated or upkept since 2010 (Norfolk). Background/ Comparison April 21-25, 2025, I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Dunham. I had an amazing stay, and I really enjoyed the in-house cafe, the rotating TV, the room setup with a cool couch, and the fun hidden refrigerator. There were more plugs than I could use, and I carry ALL my electronics. I had such a great experience I changed my hotel for my graduate school graduation in Norfolk from the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel to Courtyard by Marriott Norfolk downtown May 8-11, 2025.

Liked the location of Hotel; walkable to downtown and venues. Commons area good. Valet parking good and that staff very friendly and helpful. Reserved king room with sitting area but said oversold so got 2 Queens no comfortable sitting area. Hotel old and well used. Needs updates. Check in staff pleasant but gave no info about what to expect or area. Amenities were none; except water. Housekeeping every other day then only changed towels and made bed. A lot of noise inside. 3 ice machines in hotel but only 1 was working. Would not recommend staying here.

Tried to check in at 3:45 (check in at 3) and they said “we were sold out last night so you can’t check in and not sure how long it will be”. Got to room and several of the outlets did not work, room was not cleaned after 1st night, staff were not helpful or friendly, Valet parking was sooo slow and cost $25 a night! Not a good stay!!

The front desk staff were amazing and responsive. The room itself in the bathroom needed a little TLC. We couldn’t use the pull out couch because when we attempted to it was filthy. Full of food that clearly hadn’t been cleaned out. The cafe was extremely expensive and the staff member in the evening was unfriendly, curt, and it seemed like we were bothering her when we placed an order. The swimming pool was freezing, chunks of the floor are actually loose and scattered on the bottom. My child cut his foot on it. I was expecting more quality for what we paid.

We had a great stay here for New Year's Eve! It was only a 5 minute walk to the party at The Main Hotel and a lot less expensive than the other downtown hotels. The room was very clean and in good condition. However, the staff members (front desk and valet employees) made our stay really great! We had a friend meeting us just to go to the party at The Main. When we asked at the front desk for the location of the nearest public garage to let her know the best place to park, they offered to let her valet park at the hotel for free! I would definitely stay here again.

The staff here are wonderful!! I will definitely stay here again. It is a nice, downtown hotel and again, the best hotel staff I’ve ever met and I’ve traveled extensively. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Also, the ladies in the bistro were equally as wonderful!

While out walking to the nearby Waterside Market, I was uncomfortable with the some to the homeless people, who at times tried to get my attention. Instead of venturing too far and for too long, I returned to my hotel before nighttime. The hotel staff was very nice and the facilities clean, one exception, both vents in the room were visibly dusty. This could be a problem for someone who is potentially immune compromised.

The property list there's a bistro on the property. The bistro has not been opened in several weeks. As a person who likes to eat early in the morning prior to going out this was disheartening. My husband who enjoys a drink later in the evening this too was disappointing. The ambiance in music was there but there was no food or drinks being served on the property as stated in the amenities for the property.

Everything was great, very nice accommodations. Except, the "Bistro Breakfast" was not well explained or signed. I went to the lobby in the morning to see about 10 muffins sitting on a sad little tray and an empty coffee pot. Went back to my room too tell my hubby. When he went to the lobby, he saw the same arrangement, people sitting at tables waiting for food, no signage apparent. One employee was taking an order over the counter, then put out a placard starting which menu items could be ordered at no cost to hotel guests. I assume this arrangement works better for the hotel and wastes less time and money than a typical continental breakfast, but guests need to be informed about this procedure and employees should be present to meet the breakfast needs of the guests

This hotel is an absolute joke. Outrageously overpriced for an awful stay and experience. The restaurant was closed and they claimed to offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning. It was nowhere to be found. I asked for turn down service before my girlfriend arrived and they said they would but never did. The room smelled like musty water and was never cleaned. The one time the maids did come in the room they took all our towels and left us with one for two people. Stay far away from this establishment. I even was nice and wrote a non public review highlighting all of these things and the manager or hotel never reached out. SICK JOKE

The bistro had very poor service. 30 minute wait for a sandwich. It was not busy. The front desk staff were very good. No fridge in the rooms. The hottest water temp in the shower was only mildly warm. The price was good. The bed was comfortable. It was clean.
