Holiday Inn Express Charleston US Highway 17 & I-526 by IHG

I liked the location of the facility. I liked that there was a traffic light right at the property, so getting out into traffic was very easy.

Only negative is water pressure in shower was low.

The property is good. However, they should invest in a faster elevator. There were always guests waiting for the one elevator.

The included breakfast was very good. The water pressure for the showers was very weak.

Elevators were not working for two of the days we stayed there.

Clean, very pleasant staff. Good breakfast. We liked the fact there is a light to get out to the main road, making a left turn is challenging without a light. Beds were comfortable. Would stay here again

Had a good room on the first floor and all was clean. The ac unit was falling apart but worked. I wasn’t upset at all. Breakfast was decent as well. The staff at the front desk was helpful, friendly and greeted me almost every time I passed by. Lots of water damages throughout the guest room corridors. Things like that takes away from the guest experience and recommend it be taken cared of asap. Water pressure in the shower sucked! It took me twice as long to take a quick shower. Crazy! Get rid of those shower heads and put in place good ones! Thanks!

Everything was a great except for the elevator was out.

As HIE hotels go, this one was just adequate. Nothing special. The biggest annoyance was the lack of water pressure in the shower. We were both so glad have a good shower when we got home. Hard to fix this issue, but there is only one elevator, and it is very small. I can imagine at peak usage, you may have to wait a while to use the elevator. There wasn't very much diversity for the breakfast menu and we tired of it after 4 days. The hotel is alongside a busy highway, but the noise never infiltrated our room. There is a red light at the entrance to the hotel, so no issues coming or going during the busiest traffic. There are a number of good restaurants within 5 mins of the hotel. It takes about 15-20 mins to reach downtown, if that is your goal. This hotel was at least 1/2 the cost or more of downtown hotels. We prefer to be away from the crowds anyway, so this was a good location for us. All of the staff were very friendly and seemed glad to have visitors and were proud to call Charleston home. We enjoyed our stay overall.

The room that we first got when we checked in smelled strongly like cigarettes. We requested another room and that room didn’t smell like cigarettes, however the room overall didn’t feel that clean. The blinds barely worked and had holes and stains. The bathroom had random red hairs all over it.

Was really expecting more based on others reviews. But our overall experience was less than average. Our room smelled terribly of pet and the carpet was so dirty, my socks were filthy after walking around the room for only a few hours we were there. We awoke to stuffy noses and coughing in the night, even though we are not necessarily allergic. The ice machine was broken, there was no coffee available on our way out. We requested that they make some sort of concession on the room with a coupon, voucher or future stay at another Holiday Inn and was flatly refused. Couldn't wait to get outta there.

Clean room, good breakfast, comfortable beds

Was taken back with how dirty and unkept this property looked. We only stayed one night thank goodness but it didn’t feel clean, carpet was dirty and had to ask for a new room as our first one was really musty. Front desk staff was very nice

This was an okay hotel. Sheets and nightstand/table were clean but the bathroom had a palmetto bug in it and countertops were dusty. Floors needed another vaccuming. We were so tired (it was around 9 pm), and ready for bed otherwise I probably would have gone elsewhere.

The hotel looks nice but my hotel room had spots in the carpet, a roach on the ceiling and the bathroom had a funny smell.

The staff was great. We got a late start in the mornings but our room was always cleaned and fresh towels provided. The only downside was we stayed almost a week and the small closet space and 2 drawers was limited so I kept everything in our suitcase

Hotel was comfortable. Only issue was having a room next to the stairs. It was loud with kids running up and down.

You can tell this is an old hotel that has been remodeled. The AC controls are on the unit attached to the window. There was hair in my shower, but overall was a nice place to stay. Staff was nice and breakfast was good.

Great hotel. Great location on bay 17-just a few miles outside of Charleston, and a half mile from the Mall. This trip was on our way to Myrtle beach. Beds and pillows were sooooo comfy. Wish I could buy some for home!

Perfect road trip stop. Good breakfast. The room luggage holder fit two full sized suitcases, which was a big plus. Room size large. Location was easy to historical district. Price was right. Excellent value and no complaints.

Mattress needs to be replaced

Staff were working very hard to address numerous issues with the property. Phone didnt work in our room and the TV has no remote. I got one from the front desk and programmed it for them. Beds were fine, although I'd recommend bringing your own pillow. It was fine for one night, but no more.

Sherry @ the front desk was very professional & personable. I really enjoyed talking to her! Angie in the breakfast cafe was very nice & gave us outstanding customer service making sure we had everything we needed for a nutritious breakfast to get our day started! The pool area was very nice, peaceful & relaxing! We REALLY ENJOYED our stay @ Holiday Inn Express Charleston & will DEFINITELY stay here again!!

Check in was negative. When I walked in the girl immediately said “oh we don’t have any rooms ready” like so why idk to dismiss me when I drove hours to get there. Offer something other than me sitting in your boring ass lobby. She was very unprofessional.

Location was good, a Ruby, Tuesday restaurant next-door other restaurants nearby. When we arrived I requested room on the first floor due to my wife’s illness. I was told there was none available so we went to the second floor. We got there unpacked and turned on the air conditioning. Almost immediately there’s a strong odor coming from air-conditioning unit that smelled horribly close to urine. I went to the front desk and report the issue. I was told that there was no other rooms available. Another staff member I assumed might’ve been a manager overheard the conversation and went to the room with me. The moment she entered the room. She smelled it and told me to follow her back to the lobby. Miraculously they found a room on the first floor, which is available.🤔 I don’t know if that’s some kind of policy where they would hold back a room for emergencies, but I don’t care if a personal room is available when I asked for it initially it should’ve been granted. The room is average. The breakfast is subpar.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Charleston US Hwy 17 & I-526 by IHG over Father’s Day weekend, visiting from Nashville, TN for our first family trip to Charleston—and it couldn’t have been better! Ms. Sherrie, the Assistant GM, welcomed us with warmth and even took time to write down local dining and sightseeing suggestions. Molly at the front desk was equally kind and helpful every day. Breakfast was a highlight thanks to Ms. Kim and Ms. Angie, who served up hot food and heartfelt hospitality every morning. They made it feel like home. Our room was always clean and comfortable thanks to Sammy and Tasha in housekeeping—so friendly and attentive. And Mr. Richard from maintenance kept things running smoothly with a smile. Great location. Staff was the friendliest we have ever met. They made us feel extremely welcome and quickly took care of anything we needed. They made our stay!

Before we checked in we went to the beach. My child’s insulin pump broke in the water and there was no way to give her insulin or control her diabetes. We rushed to check in and figure out how to manage her diabetes out of town. The front desk was so supportive and listened to me as I was so upset. They quickly got us in our room. After we got the doctor to send prescriptions to pharmacy there, the front desk made sure I knew how to get to the pharmacy (it was a Saturday evening and we needed to use a pharmacy in North Charleston due to early closing of other stores). When we got back to the hotel, they asked again if we got everything figured out and if we needed anything. The next morning when we were checking out, the same lady was there and asked again if my child was ok. The customer service was beyond what I ever expected. They remembered us every time and asked if we were ok. The hotel room was perfect, bathroom was huge, and we loved the Dove toiletries! The breakfast was over the top amazing! The lobby had a lollipop tree you could take one from. It was just as much the small touches and the huge touches that made this hotel stand out from the rest! These women that helped me check in need recognition for the way they went over and above the entire stay! We are very thankful!

Only 5 miles from downtown. Save your $ and take a Lyft. Downtown parking prices are expensive.

This Holiday inn was for us a great place. We stayed there two nights. They have a good hot breakfast and a nice lounge to sit in to eat. The rooms were very nice. We were in room 122 and the bed was very comfortable. The pool area was nice, although we didn't use it. Only about 10-15 minutes from down town the old part of Charleston. Straight down the road. There is a Ruby Tuesday in the same parking lot, and a very nice restaurant right across the street in another lodging place. We would differently stay here again.

The employees at this hotel made our stay! They were efficient, hard working, and fun. Everyone was helpful and smiles on their faces. The morning breakfast crew was excellent. I have never had a better breakfast bar. Thank you!

Not a good breakfast

Nice hotel. Very clean with the most attentive breakfast staff I've seen anywhere I've traveled. Both ladies were quick to help my daughter get the food she wanted, vigilant to wipe tables between parties, and constantly refilled dishes. Other staff were also friendly and always offered a "Good morning!" like they meant it. The pool felt more like a hot tub than a refreshing place to cool off...not sure if there’s anything to be done when the outside temperature is so high. Despite an elevator outage I was warned about before staying, service didn't suffer.

The breakfast attendants Kim and Chelsea were exceptional. The food was delicious and the dining area was spotless. Their wonderful personalities made for a very pleasant dining experience.

Bathroom door wouldn't stay open. No waffle maker. Dust on the clock. Outside bathroom door dirty. Not a lot of breakfast choices. Staff started vacuuming in the room next door early. Electrical closet was right next to our room. Requested away from elevator but was next door. So many sirens early in the morning.

The staff is very professional and kind. The breakfast was delicious. Enjoyed my stay there.
