Hermitage Hotel Richmond Virginia

(I did look for contact details of the hotel to feedback directly but found none having booked on Hotels.com...) It really should be illegal for you to advertise this hotel in this way. It's shocking. I stayed there as it was cheap and there was a gym. Now I know why it was cheap... It's not a hotel... it's a motel with a hotel building out front where NONE of the function rooms are operational. My room had a door to the corridor and a door outside. And the sliding door at the end of the corridor was broken so corridor was open to the elements. It's a building site. I think at least one of the "rooms" had some official notice on it as if it was boarded up. Gym not operational. Smoke alarm in room had been removed and not capped. I have never seen such old and worn furniture, sink, toilet etc. The sheets were clean but I couldn't say if anything else was it was so old. Half of the parking lot is being used for highway construction trucks.

The adjacent building (roadway inn) is condemned. My room stated “accessible” however the elevator is out of service. The doors are wide open 24/7, no key required to access the building at any time, and the stairway doors are tied open with plastic bags. Some stairways in the lobby are boarded or chained up for no access. The building had no hot water - the sign at the front desk saying “no hot water for 3-5 days” looked like it had been posted for weeks. Hallways smelled of cigarettes and weed, which is wild because each room has a private balcony. There were giant rolls of old carpet outside. I do not recommend bringing your family to this place and you should only stay here if you know how to manage yourself in what privileged people would call the “bad part of town”. 2 nights was fine.

Half of the property is condemned and the part that isn't should be too. Rooms are falling apart, one stairwell smells like pee. The other stairwell has homeless people sleeping in it. The elevator doesnt work. Dirty tampons frozen in the 4 inches of ice buildup in the freezer(I unpluged the freezer because it was too loud and threw the block of ice in the tub just to find the tampons, ewe). Crack heads all over the place. Hot water doesnt work, no gym at all.... i didnt stay long enough for the free breakfast.

It appears they do not do any maintenance. Something breaks, it stays that way. TV did not work, light over desk did not work, other light had no cover, fan in bathroom did not work, window frame paint peeled, bathroom mirror frame damaged, back door broken, chair arm damaged, lobby restrooms out of service, lobby vending machine out-of-service, hallway security door latch broken, outside door security door latch broken, electric wires exposed, roll of carpet just laying on ground outside some of the rooms.

This place is a dump that is falsely advertising. When I arrived I was told the elevator wasn't working. The ice machine did not work. The clientele was full of riff-raff who were loud throughout the day (tolerable), but began acting a fool (yelling, etc.) at 4:30-6:00am. That's right in the frigging morning. Not even close to being worth the price. Should not be in business.

There was plenty of parking space.

No free breakfast. Flush didn't work, elevator out of order, had to carry the bags through stairs. No chain lock or any secondary lock for main door.

horrible Property. Was put on the fourth floor was not told the elevator was not working a lot of hotel rooms boarded up workout room had a board over top of it. People sleeping on benches outside. Had one person knock on my door looking for drugs floor was soaked from the air conditioner. You definitely get what you pay for will never go back.

Check in took a little long, but was easy enough once someone noticed I had arrived. Looks like a nicely designed facility, but noticed several common area amenities closed, non-functioning, and in need of repairs, renovations, and upgrades. Room was comfortable, but could also use renovations and modernization.

This was a last minute booking and I desperately needed a place to stay. This place was in my meager budget and wasn’t too far from my work for the weekend, so I got what I paid for, I suppose. The place was pretty filthy on the inside as it was on the outside. You’ll notice a distinct smell in both the lobby and as well as in your room. There are stains on the walls, sheets, floor, you name it. There was graffiti written in sharpie on multiple surfaces of the room. I rarely let my bare feet touch the ground in my room because the floor felt so dirty. One of the lights in my room constantly flickered and my bed sheets were riddled with cigarette burn holes and reeked of it too despite being in a non smoking room. I had arrived with with 5 luggage’s and was checked into my 3rd floor room. Unfortunately when I had dragged myself all the way to my building, the only elevator was out of order. I had to drag myself and my luggage’s back to the lobby to rectify the situation. Thankfully they were able to put me on the first floor. The ac worked and I had a bed for the weekend. I felt very mildly secure for the cost. On the bright side there are a few choice restaurants in the area. Despite considering booking other accommodations multiple times, it turned out ok. Though I won’t be booking here again.

I was bitten by a bug the room wasn’t what was displayed online

room was incredibly dirty. someone’s drink from before us was left in the bathroom. as well as damp and wet towels covered in hair. the fire alarm was dismembered in the room. the pillows had stains and so did the bed sheets.

The place was dirty- had roaches and the room wasn’t cleaned properly. The bathroom had mold. The doors didn’t securely lock. Unsafe and disgusting

The room had a pair of underwear hanging from the bathroom curtains, a pair of pants behind the couch and a cigarette bud on the headboard. Overall very unclean and dirty.

When I arrived, the lobby smelled like mildew and mold. They had a fan no a/c. When I entered my room, used towels were left in the bathroom. I called the desk and the of Indian descent brought towels. The room was dirty, the shower had cracks in the wall and the outlet in the bathroom was separated from the wall. I saw a mouse trap under the bed too. This hotel needs the health department to visit them asap. The only plus was having a balcony so I could air out the room and spray Lysol and clean the room with Clorox wipes. The elevator doesn’t work either. Extremely Poor conditions. Shameful ownership and management.

Absolutely dirty. Dirty bed. Dirty furniture. Dirty bathroom. Dirty walls. Holes in the walls. Checkin area smelled terrible. All elevators out of service. Many stairways closed off. Outside unkept. AC in room dirty. Floor in the room dirty. Checked out as soon as we saw the room.

Mold above ceiling, food left in refrigerator, hole in comforter, stained sheet, no remote control, no phone

I awoke to bugs crawling up the wall in my room! It was horrifying! Front desk staff never at the desk when I needed help. I had to wait at least 20 minutes both times. No breakfast was served but with the bugs I probably would not have eaten anyway.

STAY AWAY from this place! Seriously, RUN AWAY. Easily the worst property I’ve ever seen or touched anywhere in the world. Dirty, damaged, dilapidated rooms. NO REFUNDS proudly declared AFTER booking because every single person staying here would absolutely want their money back. Boarded up doors throughout the inside and outside of building. No working elevator and I’m willing to bet it’s been out months or even years. Bathrooms that don’t get cleaned after previous guests. Brown, stained towels proudly stored for use. Doors that don’t close all the way. A main entrance door that STAYS OPEN ALL DAY AND NIGHT. Not just unlocked, WIDE OPEN. NOTHING like the images shown online. They’re lucky I can’t add images here to validate my claims.

Customer service workers was disrespectful. There was people in the hallways who wasn't even guest was doing drugs in the stairwell. The sheets on the bed was dirty and the pillow cases had blood stains on them. There was no tissue in the bathroom.and there was roaches on the walls as well as in the tub.I was only there for 5 minutes. Didn't even take my coat off. Im 46 years old, and that's the worst hotel I've ever ever ever been in. Everyone, please stay away.....

It’s was ok room was clean alway n the locks on the door was broken so I couldn’t lock dr to prevent someone from coming in my room the door to the patio was broke off so I couldn’t open to go out on the patio

The room was dirty. There were only three tiny pillow. There were two entrance doors, one to the outside did not shut or lock properly. Water stains and big hole in ceiling in shower.

water was leaking on the floor. Lamp had a bare bulb. Hotel drastically needs refurbishment.

I have stayed at probably a hundred hotels. This was by far the poorest condition hotel I’ve been to. The room had busted security latches, a broken mirror on the floor leaning against the wall, missing lampshades, a missing bathroom vent cover, the floor was filthy, the comforter had multiple cigarette burns, and the shower was broken and dirty. The only good thing about it the room was it had good hot water. I felt like the owners/manager had long given up on upkeep. There was also guest noise throughout the entire night such as talking, whistling, and music. I would not recommend this facility. Had I walked in with my family instead of staying solo, I would have left immediately.

The bed was comfortable.

It was bad. I booked before reading all the reviews and I decided to go for it instead of canceling. All the 2 stars reviews are true. This business is going downhill. Three nights stay- no room service- Bed sheet didn’t get changed. Hallway- homeless guy sleeping. Many room hotel with a few guests. It was so scary at night. Weed smell in hallway. Towels are really old. I don’t even dare to wipe my face with the towels, used paper towels instead. My son was complaining about the condition and asked me to book a different one but I decided to stay since already paid. We tried to spend most of time out and got to the hotel late just to sleep.

I couldn't determine whether this facility was just particularly renovated or only part of a rundown motel was being used. The clerk was courteous and the room was clean. BUT my non-smoking room smelled of cigarette smoking and the bed cover was full of cigarette burn holes.The a/c unit was very noisy and it took all night to cool the room. I barely slept because of the noise and cigarette smell. The little microwave light was stuck on. I never used it but the light wouldn't turn off with the door closed. Lastly "renter be aware" if the picture doesn't have the name of the hotel on it look elsewhere. I don't like bad reviews but this place was a complete disappointment even for one night 😞.

Nice front desk clerk! Shower rod was messed up, good a/c, all lights, frig, tv, toilet workedI was informed elevator didn’t work (or didn’t have one?!) BUT I could pay more for 1st/2nd floor room…so I walked up to my 4th floor room.

I prepaid for 3 nights at this location. 45 minutes before checking in I experienced a medical emergency in the parking lot of this hotel. I was carried away in an ambulance 25 yard from the entrance of the hotel. I wasn’t able to check in that day so I called to have my reservation canceled and the hotel refused to answer the phone or reply to the emails sent for this said request. I discharged from the hospital I returned the hotel to beg for assistance either a refund or allow me to use the remaining days of my reservation, I was turned down and treated extremely poor by the employees. This was nonsense and tactless in my opinion. I’ll NEVER do business here again. Avoid this place at all cost. Good luck folks.

Exceptional staff😄

Just an older property. Had an issue with our first room but attendant was great and solved it immediately.

Was traveling to VA for a wedding from PA, 6hr drive. Arrived at hotel to learn there was no room for me. Front desk acted confused until I showed him the email conf then he informed me they were overbooked and my reservation was cancelled. 2 hours before event I had no ROOM or nothing. Thanks for NOTHING

What I liked was that there was not a long line or a lengthy check-in. What I did not like was there are people in the rooms and in their parking lot playing music loudly for over an hour. Someone has to hear that and say something to them.

Yes it has been great. Everyone has been very nice and professional. I love the location as well, close to the interstate,as well as lots of close shops and great restaurants. I am very pleased.

Nobody was there to check me in. Disputing the charge I want my money back. I didn’t stay.

The employees at this property were rude and did not take responsibility for false advertisement. Expedia advertises this property as having rooms with double beds and breakfast included. Neither of those aspects are true. When I attempted to check in the employee rudely repeated, “one bed, one room” and “no breakfast, no lunch, no dinner, no food.” One bed one room one star

I had to wait for checkin. After waiting I reminded clear I was still there. She left the counter. When she came back she said it would be even longer unless I took a room on fourth floor, no elevator. I can’t climb stairs with luggage so I asked for cart. No cart, no help. After 30 minutes I got ground floor room. Clerk was nonchalant and accent so thick I could not understand her BED in romm 155 horrible. Old lumpy

The room had a nice renovation but the staff was horrible. I accidentally left my laptop and called 1 hour after checking out and they said they will check w housekeeping. Never called me back, I kept calling and even went back up there, all the front desk did was to point to a sign saying they are not liable for items left behind. I’ve never had issues with a hotel like this before. Stay away and don’t give this family your money.

Awful part of town, never felt safe

Absolutely disgusting! Did not even stay. Drove up and it looks like an abandoned run down building. The area is horrible. I didn’t even get out of my car. Decided to drive 3 hours home instead of risk staying at this hotel.

Sketchy area

i don’t have unrealistic expectations when i book cheap hotels/motels while traveling. this hotel was very adequate & what you expect for the price. the negatives: very rundown area next to the stadium. so i was a little worried about leaving the car overnight. the bathroom door had no lock, but as a family, that’s not a big deal. positives; extremely nice front desk staff let us check-in early & gave us a balcony room when my son requested one. room itself was clean & had nothing to complain about. fridge & tv worked fine. perfect cheap & bare bones hotel to stay in one night while passing through. don’t set unrealistic expectations & you won’t be let down.

The first room they put me in smelled a little like cigarette smoke, so they happily gave me another one. This room was comfortable and smelled good, and was quite adequate. There was a hole in the ceiling above the shower, but it didn't bother me much. Overall, decent value for the money, especially since it was within walking distance of my event.

Just stayed for a night while travel. The area wasn’t that great and it’s clear the place is in need of a make over. The elevator is out of order and that’s not informed you’re told when you go to it and there’s a sign on it that says out of order. So, I had to walk to the third floor. My room looked nothing like the room in the pictures. My fire alarm was hanging off the wall, one of the corners of the wall had cobwebs, one of my hand towels were dirty and stained and the walls were pretty thin. So, I woke up to the neighbor guest hunching. My room had 3 doors. One to go in and 2 on the opposite side of the room. One that went to the next room and one to a patio but there was generic brown table in front of the room door. The room is probably worth about $30-40 less than listed as. Save your money and go elsewhere

I got this room for my daughter who was in the middle of moving. We pulled up to the hotel and we couldn't believe what we saw. The property was overgrown. And by overgrown, I mean unkept and dirty. The hotel itself was rundown inside and out. At first, we weren't even sure the hotel was open. Homeless people outside and prostitutes nearby. We left and we made other arrangements. I'm not being reactionary either. I grew up in this area and live less than two miles away. This area has always had some sketchy elements but it seems all the current growth in the area has pushed this element into a concentrated area directly around the hotel. Wouldn't ever recommend this hotel to anyone. Due to the growth in the area it will probably be flattened for a new hotel or apartments in the next few years anyway.

My hotel room was very clean. The main floor was equipped with a vending and a breakfast room. Great location. Near Wawa and the downtown bus.

The room itself - once we got in there, was fine. However the whole feeling on and around the property was……scary. Erie !

Was very dirty, bad neighborhood, under construction apparently. Waited at the front desk for forever to check in and out because no one was there. No free breakfast which was supposed to be provided based on the listing.

This place was disgusting the pillowcases were dirty, the towels were dirty, there was cobwebs on the ceiling, and there were cigarette butts on the balcony. Stated they had breakfast from 6:30 to 9:00 in the morning there was no breakfast. The staff checking you in is rude doesn't listen and is very dismissive and make sure you have an extra $100 to put down for a deposit per night you stay there. I would never stay here again this was the worst hotel experience I've had traveling for competitions with my daughter.

Not a terrible place but it was creepy and empty. We got it last minute and it was quiet and had a comfortable bed. No breakfast like it had offered on the listing but it was convenient and cheap.

It was the worst stay experience. Hostel condition was worst. Broken furniture. Very unsafe surrounding and people. They show main building in pictures and its closed for stay. And ask to live in nearby apartments owned by hotel. They offered breakfast in package but breakfast room was locked and it was not served. Not recommended at all.

I didn't have an iron, the ironing board didn't have a cover, no ice bucket, the only ice machine there didn't work, the automatic sliding door didnt work so when you step out your warm room on the first floor, you'll get the cold chill from outside. Not a good breakfast selection.

No heat in the lobby of the Hotel or the hallway -- when it was 35 degrees out.    Construction fencing all around the place.  One of the buildings the door was closed off with plywood. Are they serious? Never again.

Just looking at the continental breakfast items makes you think they aren't even trying. Why this place isn't condemned is beyond me.

I had to switch rooms because the sink was leaking, and the guy never left the office to check it out or bring me a key. The carpet in the hallway is still wet, probably because they haven’t looked at it yet. I had to go to the office to get a key to another room that he didn’t even bother to inspect. Upon entering the second room I found that the deadbolt isn’t properly secured the door, the faucet in the bathroom is about to fall off, there are stains all over the sheets and hairs that are not mine. I go to get breakfast in the morning the front desk tells me the breakfast guy didn’t show up today. No sorry… nothing. Then on my way back to the room I notice at the same hotel has a unsafe notice attached to it. So I’m wondering how is it that they are still operating?! I will be submitting a cancel request with my bank. What a terrible experience. This place should be condemned.
