We arrived to a warm welcome. Staff very accommodating. Had a great view of the old city gate from our sparkling clean, spacious and super comfortable room. The coffee and apples in the room were great, the bed was wonderful and the bathroom was very well appointed. We didn't realize we had to use the key to lock the door from the inside, so slept with the door unlocked; thankfully safe! Parking was extra but close by and easy to access.

Hotel was great, convenient for Basel (15 walk to riverfront) right next to Spalen Gate. Staff were great, we managed to get parking on site but few spaces available - charged my hybrid car for a low price. Lovely hotel

Great location just outside the gate to the old town. Super friendly and helpful staff. I liked the amenities like free coffee and fruit. They also had a bar, which was nice to be able to have a wine while enjoying the garden.

We were warmly welcomed and provided with excellent information about the hotel, dining options and a Basel Travel card to use on all public transport. Reception staff were excellent. Public transport stops are located close by the hotel as is old town, which is an easy walk. Hotel rooms were a great size with very good amenities. The restaurant on site provides an excellent breakfast at a reasonable price. I highly recommend this Hotel.

I generally don\'t give properties good reviews based on staff (I expect professionalism and hospitality). But reception at Hotel Spalentor really made the stay very pleasant. They were exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and helpful. We would definitely stay there again if we return to Basel. The hotel is close to public transportation but the old town (shopping and restaurants) is easily walkable. The parking and pet fees are very reasonable. Checkin was super easy, parked out front to unload luggage) and their available parking garage is close, secure, and easy to maneuver. The bed was comfortable. The window shades allow for excellent room darkening. Hotel Spalentor, staff, location, comfort, convenience, made this Basel visit better than our first. Notes; the wall-mounted TV in our room functioned but could use an update. The water temp at the sink faucet is warm (not hot) for washing hands and shaving. The water temp for the bath/shower was plenty hot. I think this must be a boiler setting or something, not a problem but when I was shaving I was thinking "I REALLY hope the shower/bath water is hoter than this. It was.

Great hotel. The staff were tremendous and super friendly as well as helpful. The room was large and had a fridge, Coffee machine etc. everything you needed. Parking was just around the corner in a very convenient but secure car park. Really easy to walk into the old town and the shops. Beautiful city. Highly recommend staying here if you’re ever in town.

Nice hotel near many shopping / restaurants in the main area near the river. Easy walk to get there. Rooms are updated and comfortable however they use good old fashion keys for the door locks - be sure to use it to lock your door when inside, door doesn’t automatically lock. We were in room 203 and the sewer odor smell was absolutely terrible. My sister was on 407 and had no odor detectable in her room. Other than the odor we would stay here again.

the staff were great - nothing was too much effort. The rooms were super comfortable, especially the bed! And the showers were top notch.Location ws perfect - short walk from free bus from the airport and close to old town. The only gripes were I did find a cockroach in my room - which could have come in on my clothes or through the window and it was the only one I saw. Also the breakfast was served all cut up into bite size pieces? I found this odd and it took ages to manuver small pieces of fruit, cheese etc. onto your plate.

Very nice staff. Very clean. Right across from the old city gate. Free public transport is right across the street, 8 minutes to the train station. Fairly loud traffic area but good windows kept it at bay.Would certainly stay there again.

The room felt a bit cold and clinical. There is a glass panel between the bathroom and the bedroom area. The light from the bathroom shines into the bed area. Not good when one person goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und bekamen für unseren PKW sofort einen Parkplatz in der Nähe zugewiesen. Unser Zimmer war sauber, groß und schön mit einem geräumigen Bad (mini Waschbecken). Die Betten hatten angenehme Matratzen mit flauschigen Kopfkissen und Decken. Das Frühstück war in Ordnung.- Das Hotel hat eine recht zentrale Lage, mit allen Vorteilen der Erreichbarkeit aber auch den entsprechenden Nachteilen. Der Verkehr donnert unüberhörbar am Hotel vorbei. Leider müsse das Martinshorn immer eingeschaltet sein, wenn der Krankenwagen zum nahegelegenen Hospital fährt und das passiert oft. Wenn man mit geschlossenen Fenstern schläft ist es allerdings leise aber die Klimaanlage dürfe aus ökologischen Gründen nicht unter 22 Grad abkühlen. Dies wurde uns auf Nachfrage mitgeteilt. Also für Frischluftschläfer eine Herausforderung.

The hotel is older style and rooms are being renovated nicely. The door into the bathroom is quite narrow though. TV in our room was very problematic. Eventually needing to unplug from the wall to stop it restarting overnight. Although the room had been renovated the Toilet seat was yellow underneath. Air conditioning limited to 22 degrees cooling. Very friendly staff who tried to resolve issues. Great location for exploring the old city. Some great restaurants and cafes in walking distance. Lovely gardens opposite for a quiet wander. Very helpful information from the hotel about transport options from the airport with clear directions for using the buses. Expect costs to be expensive and budget accordingly.

We were very happy with our stay. The staff was great and very friendly. We arrived 3 hours before check in time after traveling 20 hours from California and they were able to upgrade our room and let us check in early. This was awesome since all we wanted to do was get a little sleep. We were only there for one night, just a quick stay over before joining our river cruise the next day.

Exceeded all expectations. Great service from the staff, who told me all I needed to know about the hotel and Basel. Responsive to my needs - directions, transit, schedules, local dining options, etc. Room as advertised. Nicely furnished, clean, great condition, airy and spacious. I would definitely stay here again. It is a very convenient location, right at the gate of Basel - the Spalentor. So many shops and restaurants within walking distance, and right across the street from the bus stop that takes you directly to the old city or the main train station.

We booked the room for a brief Basel visit after a Rhine River cruise. Upon check in, they gave us a Basel Card for discounts all over the city including free public transportation. They took the time to tell us where to go and what to see. Very engaging and helpful staff. The room was very comfortable and had all the amenities. We enjoyed refreshments in the garden and then adventured out.

Excellent location right by Basel's Old Town, and there's a bus stop nearby with a bus that goes to the main train station. The rooms and beds are very modern and comfortable, the hotel is on a quiet street, and the breakfadt buffet is excellent. Staff are also very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Staff was very friendly. Check-in was easy and room was ready early. Breakfast was offered at a fee, but was well worth it. We came to learn that breakfast is not “a thing“ in Switzerland. Most places offer coffee and a baked good. Breakfast at the hotel was a full spread, including eggs, bacon, meat, yogurt, cheeses, fruit, pastries, jams, and various toppings. very pleased with our stay.
