Super 8 by Wyndham Independence Kansas City

Gross property. Everyone was partying in the parking lot. Trashy people everywhere. Tub was stained with rust throughout. TV had stains all over it. We checked in and checked out a few hours later. Didn't even stay the night. Hallway smelled like BO. It may have been safer staying at the abandoned KMart across the street with the homeless. I'll just take the financial loss. This is a 0 star.

We notified the property in advance, but they refused to issue any credit or refund. That is unfair and, frankly, dishonest. Be cautious when booking — their policy may cost you. Definitely not Ramada or Holiday Inn Express, but cost was 50% also. On the bright side, Uber to the ballfields was easy and economical.

This hotel is NOT handicapped accessible. 1 flight of stairs up to the room, 1 flight of stairs down to the breakfast room. THERE IS NO ELEVATOR. Room was clean but had a funny smell- decided to just open the window after looking at the cleanliness of the AC Unit. The positive here was that the bed was comfortable.

Everything smelled like cigarettes, and the stairs were absolutely filthy. Their we're dust bunnies all over the ceiling and some dirt on the wall. 3 floors and no elevator for handicapped people.

Just overall not very clean, smelled like smoke, me and my family left a day early and the front desk ppl wouldn’t even consider giving a partial refund. There is no elevator and dimly lit parking lot, the whole place smelled weird and generally looked dated.

Good for the money. Staff was relatively friendly. Pool was nice and warm. Convenient to Truman sites and KC.

This was the worst stay I have ever had. The room was disgusting. A man busted into our room, during a fight between himself and another group. He was drunk, threatening to harm other customers and children. The staff allowed him to stay and act like this for 4 hours before I had to call 911 and threaten to shoot him. We were not involved in this, other than our room being close to his. He fought multiple people, and completely broke our door frame, we were not offered another room. My children were terrified. The manager, started an arguement with me because she felt like I had an attitude when a man was allowed to terrorize guests for 4 hours with racial and death threats because the manager said "he probably won't do anything". The manager went as far as to tell us we were not allowed to leave our room, when the door was being busted into. The police arrested him for punching 2 people and assaulting another woman. The pool was so cloudy and full of nasty things. We were not given a refund option, and due to it being 11 pm before we could leave our room we could not find another place to stay. Please. Do not stay here! We paid $217 for this room. They also have a deposit they dont disclosed of $100 and I still haven't received a refund for that or the actual room fee. I have pictures and videos and will be pressing this issue. The management is a a disgrace to the hospitality industry.

Overall, this hotel is a decent option if you're looking for budget-friendly accommodations. It's definitely an older building, and you can tell, but nothing too bad. Just a heads-up—there's no elevator, only stairs, so keep that in mind if mobility is a concern. The breakfast didn’t have many options, but it was something. The room was pretty basic, but clean enough. However, the toilet didn’t flush very well, which was a bit inconvenient. The pool was also clean and in good condition, making for a nice bonus during the stay.

Motel didn’t even look like the photo the sign outside was broken Unclean room…smells of cigarettes in the hallways…toilet seat loose and toilet kept running ever hour or so because the seal wasn’t working

Bath tub was filthy and had a crack in that was rusted. Safe latch was broke. Lady’s fingers ( fake)were on the floor by the bed. Water pressure I. Shower was bad and pipes rumbled.

The whole place smells bad. The rooms a little less than the hallways/stairs. Outdated and dirty. Cobwebs on the walls and the TV barely had any stations working. Thankfully didn't have to be there long just long enough to get ready and then back late to sleep and left first thing in the morning.

The room was absolutely dirty holes in the bathroom celling substances on the floor ripped up chairs in lobby lights in bathroom flickering just a really bad room. Ive stayed in many hotels over the years of travel and by far THE WORST MOST DIRTY ROOM I EVER STAYED IN... WILL NEVER STAY IN A SUPER 8 AGAIN... Paying a bit more to at least not have holes in the room... WORTH IT...

We were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel, given the price. It was very clean, quiet, comfortable. One of our best stays at a hotel in this price range. (We stay in hotels at various prices many times a year, and this one was actually cleaner than some more expensive ones.) Breakfast wasn't much, but it was plenty to start our days, and it's not like you can expect a full cooked breakfast spread at these less expensive hotels. We are definitely saving this one for future stays in this area. Kudos to a great, thorough housekeeping staff!

Lobby and hallways were hot, carpets were very worn and dirty, tubs had stains on floors, rooms stunk, crayon written on bathroom walls, some hairs left behind in bathroom, room keys would stop working had to take to desk if nobody was in room… Beds were comfy, great location, air in rooms worked great… Was a busy weekend in the area but doesn’t seem to be kept up on very well.

There was absolutely NO hot water in this hotel!!! They was aware of it but I guess didn’t see a need to fix it. Cockroaches in the room

Independence MO Super 8 Hotel would be 1.2 out of five quality - very disgusting and disappointing. We checked in late in the evening was sent to our room, when we got ready to go to bed. We found bedbugs as you see in picture 1. Called immediately to get another room. We went downstairs to get a new key, he sent us clear up on the third floor to a room that had not even been serviced. That is the 2nd picture you will see, if it hadn’t been 3am in the morning, we would have left. He got us another room that he brought the key up to. We had Shekar turn back the bed and examine the room so he could be assured that what he was offering to us that evening did not have any of the same issues of bugs or filth. We had to get some rest and accepted the 3rd room. We requested that we receive at least one night free of charge of the two we stayed. That was denied only a 30% discount was offered and we denied that offer. We have received nothing and the manager has not called. I have called three times and the manager has been gone every time and no callbacks. Why should we ever stay at a super eight again and I’m very nearly ready to go on yelp, you will never have another resident stay under these conditions sadly disappointed, and very disgusted!!!

Clean, no bugs, no suspicious activities outside the facility

Place was ok. Check in easy and attendant was very kind. We booked the room with the hot tub, and fair warning, the water trickles out, so took an hour to fill. Bed was clean and comfortable. Bathroom tap water smelled like sewer water. It was horrible. Thankfully there’s a Walgreens across the street that we were able to buy water at. Toilet clogged. Probably wouldn’t stay again but served its purpose.

Very smokey hotel. Entire building reales of cigarettes 🚬. The room was filled so if you have an allergy or breathing problem this is NOT the hotel for you. Says smoke free facility but you can smell it through the vents as others are smoking in the rooms. All of our clothing was laced with the smell and had to be washed. Could tell that people actually lived there. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Would stay there again for the price you'll get your money worth.

The beds were very comfy and those were great for a good night sleep.

Floors weren't the cleanest. There's a funny smell when you walk into the hotel. The beds are so very uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok but nothing really for protein. It was close to the highways and plenty of side streets to get over to the stadiums without having to be stuck in traffic on the freeway.

This motel served our purpose. The front desk staff was friendly. Our room was comfortable and clean.

The reservation waa for a queen bed. It waa a full size. Very uncomfortable. When checking out her it was a full , she said it was a queen.

Stayed in the room with a jacuzzi tub and the jacuzzi didn’t work.

Very very rude customer service

I wasn’t allowed to stay at the hotel because I didn’t have the extra $100 deposit required by the property. The property assured me to call the booking company and my stay would be refunded or transferred. When I was finally able to get ahold of the booking company the following day, they were required to inquire with the property for the approval for the refund. I was told the property denied the refund request (even after assuring me to contact the booking company). It’s all just so crazy that I was refused a room to stay in and was refused the return of the cost and taxes of said room. So I basically handed $80 to a hotel chain and/or the booking company that wouldn’t/couldn’t and DIDNT produce said room. I slept in my vehicle that night and unfortunately this IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I have had this unfortunate experience which other then failure to read the fine print that is so hard to find you miss it completely- I did absolutely nothing in the wrong other then go thru this booking company!! And nothing I have done has been able to get my money refunded. So if you love sleeping in your vehicle and throwing money out the window. DONT USE THESE SERVICES. OR OPT FOR THE $8.00 PROTECT YOUR RESERVATION FEE. BECAUSE YOU MAY VERY WELL NEED IT!!!

I booked and paid through Expedia and then they also charged me for the room. So I paid twice. I am disputing the charge. I also called the hotel to ask about this and they said they put a credit back to my card which I have yet to see.

Well the property is kind of old and has a smell to it. The younger man who works the counter does not smile when checking you in. And he's a lil abrasive even answering your questions or even you all for help. They're was two employee's who made the stay pleasent. The lovely lady who helped us get into our room when it locked us out. She was amazing, great attitude, lovely personality, and just as sweet as she could be. And the lady who served breakfast in the morning! Such a joy! She was amazing when helping the kids with breakfast. So thankful for those two ladies. May God bless them for their exceptional service. In Jesus name amen!!!

Room was nice, But I don't like having to pay $100 deposit fee that I won't get back for several days after my stay. one of the employees at work nights at the register was quite rude to me and the guest I was with! And their side door key locks did not work.

Front desk very professional

After traveling and working for 20 hours all I wanted to do was check into the hotel and sleep. When I arrived there was no one at the desk. A sign had a number to call for service. When I called it rang inside the empty office. Waited over 40 minutes for someone to show up before leaving and driving to another hotel.

Great, close to arrowhead!

It was scary entering the hotel with homeless people at the front door. The property smells and the room smells and the bathroom did not seem clean. The toilet seat and lid were both up when we entered, there was trash in the trash can, and a long hair on our "clean" towels. Not impressed.

It’s an excellent choice for a non-luxury level. We were pleased with the amenities, including washing machines and breakfast, as well as fridge and microwave in the room. The lobby-level room was a bit noisy with check-ins and check-outs, but they did offer us a quieter room. Don’t choose this pet-friendly hotel if you are not comfortable with being around dogs or hearing barking. As dog-lovers, we were fine with that. One of the light bulbs in our room was out, and some of the soaps were not new, but there were also wrapped soaps, so we used those.

Had to park across the street in another hotel's lot because truckers taking up 10 or more spaces and we wouldn't park in the back because lots of people hanging out smoking weed, no lights back there. Very unsafe. Room was disgustingly filthy, had to wear shower shoes in the shower and socks at all times which were black after an hour.

This hotel is in the best location if you are going to the stadiums for a game. Right off the highway. Good restaurants near by. The staff was great. It's not fancy but it served its purpose when we were only in the room to sleep and get ready to go out.

Adequate for one night, close to Arrowhead. They were very busy at check in, 30 minutes to wait. Staff was friendly and helpful. Not the greatest condition for what we paid. Prices were way high for demand.

I was looking for a hotel that was affordable that was not too far from Arrow head stadium for the Chiefs game that had tickets. This hotel had a shuttle to get you to the game and the rooms were clean.

Our room was clean and comfortable, I felt safe in the neighborhood and it was a convenient location to Arrowhead Stadium, where we were attending a concert. The staff was friendly and we had a nice stay.

The room itself was very nice, clean and comfortable. Area seemed safe enough. The hallway had a yucky smell, only one of three washers was in working condition (I only needed one), there was no milk at breakfast- they weren't out, I was told they do not have milk.

Old and dingy. Tv didn’t work. Breakfast done at 9… 9!

The king bed room had vinyl plank flooring which I liked. The air conditioner made a soothing hum not really loud like some. The breakfast was good with waffles, yogurt, oatmeal, sausage sandwiches, breakfast bars, bananas, apples, juices, and coffees.

It is a functional hotel. Convenient to highway. The price point should be under 100.00 dollars. It is close to sport complex which explains high price. Very basic breakfast. The staff was nice.

The front desk person was quick and efficient. Check-in was easy. Our room had some issues. It was clean, but pretty shabby. The beds were really firm, bordering on hard. The breakfast the next morning was pretty sparse. There was biscuits and gravy, but the biscuits were pretty old and hard. no milk or cereal. Just yogurt, boiled eggs and some white bread. We didn’t use the pool area, but there is one. Next time I think we will pay a little more and stay somewhere a little nicer. Some questionable smells around the hotel.

It was a nice stay. We just needed a place to sleep for the wedding we attended, and this fit the bill nicely. The location was good for us, and the breakfast was better than I expected!
