Castle at Waikīkī Grand

This is the worst hotel i can remember staying in in the past 30 years. The rooms did not match the pictures on the webpages. There was mold in the showers The rooms were furnished with second hand furniture. The swimming pool was too dirty for swimming. And there is no room cleaning service. The only positive was the proximity to the beach.

This was my first time using a hotel condominium, and it was comfortable. Check-in and check-out were done in room 512. Although the business hours of the management office and the front desk are different, there was no problem if we informed them in advance that we would be checking out early in the morning. The view from the observation deck in the common space is spectacular. I stayed in room 515, and the view from the lanai was wonderful as you could see Diamond Head and the ocean at the same time. In January, I was lucky enough to see the sun setting over the sea. I really liked the interior of the room and the plants. The kitchen was easy to use and had plenty of cooking utensils. The hospitality of all the staff was also wonderful. Thank you for your kindness.

Surprise cleaning fee $159 up front! Unknown to me. Restaurant/bar is 21+ only (did not advertise that before I booked) I have 8?yr old child with me. Also pool was not open due to construction (also not disclosed before I booked). Then was asked to move to another room shortly after settling in. Evening front desk clerk Jonathan was very rude and out of line!! I actually rate my experience a big fat zero! Also was not disclosed that the var Hulas is a gay bar!

We chose the property primarily for the location and walkability of the area. The property itself is a little dated but clean. Friendly staff. The swimming pool was cold and shaded early, it could be updated there, though frankly we did not spend any time in the pool until the last day before we had to leave.

The location is very convenient and close to Waikiki beach and many food options shopping. Staff was very kind. Room seemed very clean, ac worked great. The view was very beautiful, and the patio was a nice plus. We were able to get free parking a couple of blocks down, which the staff recommended. If you don’t mind walking I think it’s a great option! Be aware that there is a nightclub below so if you are sensitive to noise that may be something to note, but it didn’t bother me! One thing I do wish was that maybe an email could have been sent out before hand to explain the check in process a bit more because it was a little confusing at first with the desk being located on the fifth floor, but again nothing to really complain about! I was even able to get early check in which was great! Had a lovely time! I think it is a reasonable option for the price!

Location is great. Right across from the zoo. However, there were issues from the start. 1. If you want a parking space, you'll need to reserve it on a different website from the hotel. https://www.wghparking.com. Make sure you book it well before your trip. I didn't know this and had to find street parking the first night. 2. If you're booking a CASTLE rsvn, you'll check in at the Waikiki Grand's front desk first. Then you'll be directed to rm 503 to finish the check in. This was a first for me. There the Castle employees will give you your rm # and key code. 3. Pictures on Hotels.com were NOT accurate, at all! City view w/ kitchenette? Umm ok. But where was the couch? Luckily, there was a CAMPING COT hidden by the bathroom or else my son would've had to sleep on the floor. 4. Speaking of the floor. Still had sand on the floor when we arrive. Dirty. 5. If you need the room dark in order to sleep, forget it. The "curtains" were nothing more than sewing material with Hawaiian print on it. All the lights from the walkway illuminated the room at night. It was so bright, I had to cover my face with the blanket just to sleep. 6. The corner of the bed is very close to the kitchen cabinet. Maybe a16 inch clearance? I ended up whacking my shin on the wooden bed frame and ended up with a bleeding cut due to it. 7. Make sure you rotate the TV back against the kitchen wall before you go to bed. Or at least remember to duck. You get what you pay for. Beware

Partial ocean view was visible. There was no parking at this property. If you stay at this property you will not have parking

The check-in process was very confusing. I was not informed that I needed to reserve parking ahead of arrival, not that it would have an extra cost.

Privately owned rooms. More like an air bnb.. the staff for our room was great. One of the lobby attendants was horrible. Parking is a commodity so make sure to call the property and book that immediately otherwise options are scarce and very expensive. The zoo is right across the street and most restaurants are pretty good.

Great spot! Right by the beach, everything you need is just a walk away! Great view on the sun deck as well!

Staff was very nice. The room was clean, bathroom kind of small like in Asia. Great location in Waikiki, everything is close by. Easy ways to rent a car, easy way to book a Luau, sunset dinner in the ocean. I'll be back!

Upon arrival, it was fine. We checked into the room first they try to give us a room that was hot. The AC was not working. She offered us another room where it was cold. We settled in. We go downstairs to grab something to eat. We go back upstairs and there is roaches here and there we kill them and go on about our night. We settle and put some belongings away. We go down to the beach. We’re gone for a few hours upon a return when we enter the room. The room is infested with roaches not one or two like the first time rather 10 or 20 we’re trying to kill them all but there’s just so many they’re everywhere the food that we bought are belongings on the bed on the floors and the wall. We call Castle to inform them of the roach infestation in the room. The representative told me that he would have somebody contact me. After waiting for about 20 minutes, nobody ever called. To the front desk at Waikiki grand Hotel. and informed them of what was going on. They switched us rooms, but the room they gave us was an extra room for the cleaning service. They had their at the hotel so before we could get settled in, they had to move out all the buggies and cleaning supplies so that we could sleep there. The room was clean, however very outdated with dirty carpet not to mention the reason why I booked this room.( the first room) was because it had a full kitchen. The room that they switched us to did not have a full kitchen nor a full refrigerator it did come with the hot plate.

I didn’t realize that this was partially an apartment building that they rented rooms out of. The room wasn’t very clean, even though they charge $250 cleaning fee, which is ridiculous. And there were roaches.

Unit was very outdated. Balcony was minute. Floors were very dirty. This information has been shared with the manager of the Castle condo units.

We were upgraded for the first part and that room was clean but road noise was awful. The second room was not noisy but the floors were filthy and mini cockroaches in the kitchen was not pleasant.

It was overall a clean space, right near the water. There were some bug issues. The women I spoke with during my time there were amazing.

This was our second stay here we had a great experience the first time but after this stay we have vowed never again. The location is wonderful but that is about it. The room wasn't the cleanest the bedspread was gross not sure if that was even washed recently and since you only get clean towels every other day you have to use the same washcloth for two days. We even looked at moving to another hotel in the area for our stay. The room was not even close to what is being depicted online.

They require you to remove your own trash while charging a 'cleaning' fee, yet my unit did not recieve any sort of housekeeping over the course of 5days. Not even clean towels. A roach was seen scurrying across the floor as well I left my luggage outside upon returning home to prevent unwanted guest.

The room was dirty, yet they charge me $50 to clean. Stains on the wall, baseboards are dirty, bed headboard loose and bangs the wall, toilet loose from the floor, "cleaning lady" parked in my spot that I was paying for, keypad door locked me out twice. Furniture is old and stained. Only allowed to switch towels every other day. Dark hallways. I stayed one night and was charged $300; I could have stayed at a much nicer place for that price. I was scheduled to stay there one week; I checked out and moved to a much nicer place for less money: The manager never returned my call to discuss the $50 cleaning charge. Hotel LaCroix. Not worth the price at all. Stay elsewhere. Buyer beware. This was room 904.

Building is run down. The castle grand is an older section of the Waikiki Grand that is condo owned.. Our choice said it was 400sq ft and showed ok room pics. Trouble is nothing on the web site matched the actual room itself.. It was around 260 sqft, very tiny bath with an almost non existent sink.. Had a double bed wedged between a column in the middle of the room and a wall.. Only way in was to climb over the end of the bed.. And the bed was like sleeping in a folding taco shell. No drapes only broken window shades that allowed the night light in the room making it hard to sleep.. 1001, do not take this room....

The room itself was old and had a lot of issues, - the mini fridge, the tv, the wifi did not work. I got help getting the wifi but it is clearly a very old hotel. I was told the entire building had some new tv issue where it would only work with a new Smart Tv, but I am not really sure that is true. The bed was very comfortable and the room was air conditioned. The view was spectacular though!

The plus it was close to Waikiki Beach: 5 minute walk. The cons- no service to the room- no cleaning. Could only change our bath and beach towels every two days. The room has a ‘balcony window’ but sealed shut. Also extremely thin as if they were open and could hear every car, truck, and motorcycle drive by. I booked the room because it has a kitchenette, however every thing in the kitchen is old and a plug in heat burner for the stove. I chose to eat out instead use the dirty, outdated kitchen. The only thing that worked well was the air conditioning and the shower. The bed had an old mattress and older bedding. The entire room looked like a 50 year old version of the photo online and was disappointing.

The only concern i had was with the Mattress. The Mattress in the room i had was very thin and worn. I suggest this Mattress be replaced.

Room was great, close to the beach and the venue we were going to. The only compliant is the road/outside noise. It was so loud it was like the window was open.

I reserved an "ocean view" room...the Ocean view was from the lanai looking around the wall, or through a mirror on the opposite wall--more than a bit misleading. I was a late arrival, but the check-in for this property evidently closed at 11:00 P.M. We were able to get in by checking in with the neighboring property, but they weren't sure which parking spot I'd be assigned. Since everything was electronic, all of the relevant info could have been sent beforehand.

Our room was small. Bed was old and sagging in the center which made it difficult to sleep. The rest of the room was slightly dirty and outdated. Had the room been cleaner I would have slept in the tile floor instead of the bed that folded like a taco!

Roxy and Williams were great and very helpful. I got a nice free beach tote with stay and free drink coupon for bar. Room was very clean and nice view of diamond head and beach from balcony.

Staff were rude. The lady that works in the evening is gone half the time. You have to go between front desk and one of the offices in room 512. Poorly operated hotel

The hotels in a great location, but the staff weren't that friendly, rooms were very average, not serviced whilst we were there for the 5 nights, had to argue with the front desk, which is in room 512, not as walk in, the office is a shameful mess, had issues trying to get the rooms we booked, never again..

Centrally located with a wonderful staff. Close to the beach. Bar/club/restaurant located in the same building on the 2nd floor which may it quite convenient for the stay.

Excellent location, five minute walk to the beach, zoo and park. I bought the holo card for $30 for seven days on "The Bus". Bus stop was close by. Staff was really nice. Would stay again. Reasonably priced.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Castle! The room came equipped with a view of the ocean, Diamond Head, and the Honolulu Zoo. We were walking distance from the ABC store and Waikiki beach and about 1/2 a mile from the International Marketplace for some light shopping and an array of restaurants facing the beach. The AC was amazing and came in clutch especially at night. The kitchenette was well equipped for cooking, and the room came with snorkel gear, beach chairs, and a beach umbrella. I feel like it was well worth staying here and would definitely recommend this to anyone I know.

It is obviously an old facility. With that being said, the location is great. The view from the 10th floor is magnificent. Could use some refurbishment, but would stay there again.

Amazing views, super friendly staff, parking was super easy and affordable and free option side street parking was available on the next street over. It was just outside the craziness of Waikiki but still right at the end of the street where everything was super convenient and within walking distance. Loved this and will def stay again!!!

I loved the location of the property. It was in great walking distance to everything we wanted to do. The hotel room itself sucked they never cleaned. We had two rooms and had to pay close to 400 dollars for a cleaning fee and no one ever cleaned we had to get new towels the whole time. We were allowed 1 towel for 2 days and that was not enough for 2 people especially for tourists going to the beach everyday. I loved the burger place that was in the hotel it was affordable compared to everything else that was around.

I have stayed at various rooms at this property. Most Rooms are privately owned and rented different ways. This room was this first without an ocean view. It was larger too. Nice kitchen, microwave. Was short on utensils. Rug was worn but ok. LOVE the 1/2 block to beautiful swimming beach and other water activities. Steps to many different places to eat. Frequent buses to almost everywhere. Will stay again.

I got a cute room that had island decor on walls and shelves. I loved it. Hula’s was just down stairs which made it fun.

Front desk is not connected to running your room. Weird set up, every room is seperatly owned so its like a box of mystery. No service during your stay and you put out your own trash. The owners should tip the room cleaners. We have paid unexpected extra for that already. This odd experience left me wondering why USA for a holiday, when everything costs so much more than the original ticket price and nobody helps you unless you tip them, doesnt anyone get paid by their employer? Oh boy, and then there is extra tax on top of the loaded bill that isnt included in the original price. The rooftop has amazing views. Hulas, on 2nd floor is a great bar that should consider entertainment constantly, not just weekends. There is a burger place on the ground floor but I couldnt read their menu so didnt buy anything.

The hotel could not be in a better location. Half block from the beach, near everything restaurants, mall, bars, downtown. The price we got is unbeatable for the location. The property itself is a little outdated, could use some improvements but overall is great for sleeping as we stay out all day. My room had a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge and full kitchenware. Depending on how you book you could book with Waikiki Grand Hotel (building name) or could be with Castle Resorts (like a management co.) So from what i understood if you book with Castle Resorts (my case) most units a privately-owned and each individual owner does what they want as far as updates in the unit my unit wasnt too bad the only complaint was the mattress too old and hard on your back but after the first night you get used to it. It is a little weird how they operate so dont judge the book before you "read". So you register at the front desk as you normally would but if you booked with Castle Resort you have to go to a room in the 5th floor felt a little sketchy and do a real check in there, room is jam packed with hotels supplies, almost like a hoarder, but once you past that you will be ok. Other thing there is no room service and if you need supplies you have to go to the 5th floor room yourself to get it. And the cleaning fee you pay at check in is only for the checkout cleaning, does not include room service.
