Mercure Letchworth Hall Hotel

We arried on the 10th of December for my husband birthday treat from me only to be told that all of the facility's were closed to guest as they had hired the bar and restaurants out for private parties so we had to go out and look for food and drink

It is in a quiet area where there no disturbance from the neighbourhood and there is plenty of parking.

Pleasant stay, spacious room in the old part of the building, not modern but in keeping and clean and comfortable, fairly quiet. Easy parking and use of excellent gym/pool in adjacent Nuffield health club on same site. Breakfast good but very busy with workers about to start a course each morning.

Loud obnoxious disco bar music pounding until 11:00 pm. No rest.

We were very disappointed with the fact that the hotel advertises access to spa facilities. This was very misleading, as it offers access to a connected Nuffield gym, that is open to non hotel guests too. This spoilt our stay and is not clear on the website! And access to the gym, we had to go out of the hotel in the cold weather. No separate towel for swimming. Very poor! Furthermore, we were disturbed with request for check-out at 11am, when our booking clearly stated 12pm. This was poor communication and I had to validate my check out time when I left the hotel. These factors contributed to a disappointing stay, especially being with my partner and over two nights booking.

We had a very good comfortable stay. The staff were all excellent, helpful, curteous and chatty. The health club and swimming pool on site were a welcome addition.

I had a lovely one night stay. The bath and shower were fabulous and the bed / room was very comfortable with everything I needed. All staff were wonderful. The gym access was also a nice treat. Would stay again. Thank you

Cons Creaky floor boards in rooms, limited number of waiting staff in the bar & restaurant, 1 million fire doors to get through if you're carrying a lot and quite slow internet in the evening Pros Very clean room, good useable lift to the 3rd floor, nice adjacent gym & pool + good and friendly staff

If you like a weekend with loud bar / lounge music with a lot of bass shaking your room until 11:00pm, then this is your place. Terrible. Could not get a good rest because of this extremely noisy place on Friday and Saturday nights.

The staff were mostly excellent, but I was amazed to hear that tips aren’t paid to the staff concerned, at least in the bar. If that’s accurate it should change. Check in was efficient, informative and friendly. Bar prices for soft drinks are a disgrace (£2.75 for a tiny 200ml coke made it more expensive than the premium beers!!) The building looks tired and in need of a refresh throughout. I realise the industry is still in recovery, but basic things like holes in rotten window frames and cleaning windows (so that there aren’t weeks old spiders webs) really give a bad impression.

Even though they were clearly having major refurbishment works, the surroundings were lovely. Clean and lovely aroma as we came in. Calm and enjoyable.

Bed was very soft. Found it really hard to even get up. No heating in room. No noise proof. Water leaked in the bathroom all over the floor. Dust all around the room. Not what you expect for the price I paid

We had a two night stay. Nice room, comfortable bed, large bathroom, tea and coffee making facility. Eight of us for a meal in the restaurant. Food and service excellent. Drinks in the bar/lounge before and after the meal. I would have scored 5 stars but for our card keys not working on the second day, dirty cup left in the room after cleaning and not replaced and refurbishment limiting access through the hotel from room to reception, bar and restaurant.

The room was clean, the rest was not. The reception/bar area - tables, carpet, floor were filthy. Very tired hotel. Old, unkept, unclean, soulless

The staff are wonderful, with just one little niggle. The lady in charge of breakfast clears your table when you get up to get anything else. The overall cleanliness was good but the hotel desperately needs money spending on it. Rotten window frames and loose toilet roll holder was just 2 things that needed fixing in my room. The reception staff were great and for that reason I would use it again.

A charming, well-run hotel in a peacfeul setting. My room was impressively large, a very big bed and was immaculately clean. The staff are welcoming and helpful, the breakfast was a full variety and delicious.

The room was cold and bathroom even colder - I didn’t have a shower!

For the price, I felt that the room was not as good as I would have liked. Wi-fi poor, or non existent. None in the room, even though they say that they have fast wi-fi. Room was clean as was the hotel Breakfast, whilst plentiful and looked reasonable was tasteless. I felt that the bar was expensive. A small bottle of water about £4. I did not see what I was getting extra to a premier inn which which would have cost less.

Wi-Fi doesn’t exist , shower was pathetic

Room Was unbearably hot and temp control On radiators didn’t work also suite we booked was difficult stair cases to get to with various different levels / trip hazards not ideal for my husband with knee problems

Rooms are rundown need a bit of TLC

The double room was very small. The bed could only be accessed from one side and there was only one small side table. The bathroom was barely bigger than a cupboard and the extractor fan underpowered leading to a lot of humidity, although the shower was good. The aircon in the room was good and there was a lovely coffee machine and kettle.

On arrival the receptionist was arguing with a customer about them having no hot water. My daughter and I had travelled nearly 7 hours due to incidents on the motorway and she was having a very distressing period pains. I stated to the receptionist we had better have hit water as he was in desperate need for a bath and we had booked an Italian at 20:00hrs in Letchworth. She took payment but when we immediately checked we didn’t have hot water. I also asked for a quiet room but our room was next to the lift. I went down to query with the receptionist and she stated she was also acting as the deputy duty manager but when I told her she shouldn’t have took the money. She said they had been trying to fix it since early morning and now there was an external engineer on site it should be sorted. I asked what was the plan if it couldn’t be sorted and surely reasonable arrangements should have been put in place like some large industrial portable electric hot water boilers or them informing is en-route and trying to seek alternative accommodation. Hours later my distressed teenage daughter was sat on the bathroom floor in embarrassment waiting to leans herself. I went down again to the receptionist and she rudely hid in the rear and refused to answer as the previous customer was getting very annoyed. I went to get another manager and she said there was not a duty manager working and she would tell the duty manager on his return. We got hot water and 23:30.

Management and or staff insouciant. No hot water available all day in room, hadn't checked on arrival (a maintenance man told me there were unaffected areas of the hotel) Reception said no move possible. Instead use the nearby unconnected Health Club, who required I supply ID & full personal details (just for a shower!) In my view inappropriately, Health Club confirmed they would be adding my details to their database, not just holding for the duration of my brief visit. No recognition of risk to me of their casual acquisition of my personal data! Hotel reception said this was not the agreement, but Health Club would not change their mind. As restaurant overcrowded, we went to bar for food, having been told no TV available to watch a particular football match on TNT, Liverpool match came on, on bar TV via same channel. Service in bar appalling - Mercure's till process (seen it elsewhere too) is too long-winded for staff. 2 staff took 12 minutes to serve 3 pints! Bar then lost our food order - arrived eventually 25 mins after re-ordering 30 minutes after initial order placed and acknowledged. Room safes not working - we've turned them off - yet it claims they're a 4 * hotel Bed was comfortable, room clean and spacious, air con worked effectively (albeit continuous hum). Shower worked well when water available (last morning) but low - only neck high if you're over 5 foot Seems hotel prioritises conferences not bothered about those who self finance.

Stayed here multiple times and always greeted with a friendly smile and helpful staff

The lady on reception upgraded me to a King room from a Queen. Very friendly, arranged a taxi for me, as due to the local council Uber's don't go from there. Room service was good, food lovely. Breakfast, great selection & the lady & gentleman there today were very welcoming. The gentleman in a very smart suit was old school, I hope he doesn't mind me saying that but he was full of the traditional values of the hotel, he has worked there for 40 years. Will be back thank you.

Malcom the night Audit receptionist was excellent he moved me to a lovely room and fulfilled my request. If not i would have been very dissatisfied with the first room i was given. There are 3 things that must be placed in the room one is a fridge and the other is a toilet cleaning brush and a stand to put your suite case onto....other then this the breakfast was so delish and the staff in the restaurant did an excellent job. Thank you for making my stay a good one MALCOM especially 🇬🇷💙🏖🖐

Convenient place to stay , clean and tidy

Sweet place walkable to letchworth, stayed for a night, good sized room and excellent bathroom facilities

Bed was a bit soft when laying down, this was the only negative thing of the hotel. The grounds were beautiful to look at and to walk around.

Only a one night stay to attend a Wedding. The staff were all welcoming and informative. The room was clean and well appointed. The breakfast choice was excellent. The hotel is looking a little tired decoration wise in the 'common areas'. A real value for money hotel, its not five star but then I didn't pay a five star price and so shouldn't expect it.

The hotel is based in a beautiful location with nice grounds. The hotel is out dated, the evening food is flavourless and the breakfast room reeks of old fat and cooking smell.

Perfect place to recharge, great breakfast, swimming fantastic, lovely staff and a great nights sleep. You won’t be disappointed.
