Basic hotel but Not enough parking

Staff and breakfast were very good. The lobby area is nice and modern and gives a great first impression however the rooms are dated and in need of a makeover. The bathroom in particular was very disappointing. And at one point there was water coming in through the bathroom ceiling. I called reception and someone come up and advised they had told the room above. Didn't seem surprised that this was happening said it was just overflow.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The little bar in reception and seating area is a nice facility.

This a very old building and the room I stayed in has not been updating in decades, if ever. There is no AC and it was quite warm but there was a small fan that helped a bit. Bathroom was very outdated and it was hard to get a consistent temp to take a shower. Staff seemed to be very attentive. The ground floor lobby has been renovated and looks great. However, I never used the lobby or bar due to it smelling really and of body odor the entire time I was there. They either need to get some ventilation or use air freshener. Likewise, the elevator smelled like pot the entire time. It was the cheapest option in Watford but was still quite expensive based on the quality as well as options in central London. It is also sub par for Best Western chain. A bit of better management could address most of the issues and hopefully they will renovate the rooms..

Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was clean and warm. The location is central. The discount for parking in the public car park rather than the hotel car park was very reasonable. The car park was just as close as the hotel car park but with lots more space.

Ok for a one night stay in central Watford, reception staff very welcoming and friendly, easy check-in, small car park at rear for guests. Room is very spacious, clean and beds comfortable but very creaky. Very noisy location due to proximity of the busy main road.

The staff were very helpful, and having free parking at the rear of the hotel was a real bonus. However, the room felt quite dated, and the bedding did not seem as clean as expected, making it difficult to sleep comfortably. There was also significant road noise throughout the night, and I experienced itching while sleeping, which raises concerns about possible bed bugs.

Our stay was brief but fine. The only drawback is the small car park, but at least we managed to find a space. The hotel is very conveniently located for Watford town centre

Limited parking options and despite hotel offering a voucher for the Gade car park, the voucher did not work. The bathroom was old and the heating was on high and couldn’t be turned down. The shower head fitting was faulty and fell off so the shower head struck my head. However the staff were lovely and friendly

Room smelled stale, had windows open for both days. Glass Shower was dirty on outside, grime. There was a black hair in the shower. Carpet in room and hallways is hazardous; full of wrinkles, very dangerous for older guests. Carpet was also worn, dirty with stains. When I checked out I was not asked how my stay was. So, I didn’t bother to tell them. But to be honest if Mgt and Regional Mgt for BW is unaware of the conditions I would be shocked.

Very dated, unclean, rooms didn’t get made up. Walls paper thin so can hear every conversation in every room. Avoid!

My bedsheet was dirty, I had to ask it to be changed. There was a shoe footpriny and hair on it. The bathroom was smelly and was hair in it. The bed was very uncomfotable

This hotel needs to be either renovated or destroyed. It’s dirty smelly and dated. The staff are friendly but that doesn’t make it worth staying here. It’s too expensive for what you get.

I do not know how there are high reviews. Beware this is truly the grossest motel - you can’t even call it a hotel - I’ve ever stayed in. The shower didn’t work. The bathroom was so dirty. There were pubes on the toilet, on the floor, inside the toilet. On the WALL. You can hear everything in the hallways. There were people having an incredibly long conversation in the hallway at 430am. Bed you could feel the springs in. The pillows were as thin as my ankle. There is zero parking on property. I don’t know where it says limited but you have to park at a parking lot that is a few minutes walk but like a 5 minute drive to get to if you’ve rolled up to the property first. The parking lot is also quite sketchy. Some people seem to think this property is fine but you couldn’t pay me to stay there again. Also while I’m ranting about how much this sucked they have a weird carpet once you leave their lobby that makes it super hard to roll your bags on. Oh also the curtains you can see the dirt accumulation on them. And the window sills had dirt on them too. It was super cheap but I wish with everything I’d spent the extra money on somewhere less disgusting

We are appalled however at the state of the room that was given to us when we arrived on Saturday evening. - There was a used condom wrapper on the shelf next to the spare pillows. - The bedsheets had make up stains on it and hairs in the bed clothes. - The bathroom was full of stains. (Please find images attached) We received a new room for our trouble, but felt deeply unsettled about the quality of cleanliness for this building. The Best Western franchise guarantees cleanliness as part of its promise. This was not upheld at all. This is unacceptable and we will be expecting some sort of compensation as soon as possible.

Straight away in corridors floors and walls were filthy even in the lift. Our room was worse- clumps of dust in the bath tub, dirty handprints and food and drink splattered on the walls, doors, floors and surfaces. Thick dust everywhere including the fan in 32degree weather… hairs in the bed and more. Not normally one to complain but I felt it had not be cleaned from previous stay so I went to show the front desk pictures of the room and we got “upgraded” to an executive suite. This room was just bigger with a sofa but I would not call it an upgrade- floor had not been hoovered there was an even thicker layer of dust on everything including the fan again, the limescale and dirty around the bath, sink and walls was disgusting. Even the bin had not been emptied. Front desk asked how the new room was and I showed them pictures and explained I’m still not happy it is dirty and I have no where else to stay for the night as it was 9pm and not from the area. They had nothing to say, until I started to walk to the bar and both team on shift started talking about us and how we are a problem not their cleaning. Staff did not want to speak to us for rest of our stay. Emailed to complain and even with photos attached from both rooms its just not up to my “expectations” and it’s not their poor cleaning standards to blame… Been offered 30% off my next stay. What a joke will not be staying somewhere that let their rooms fester and treat guests this way again.

Very disappointed. The carpet looked filthy, stained so I was so pleased I had my slippers with me. There was no soap in the dispenser by the shower. Fortunately the bed linen was clean.

The staff were lovely but our room was not clean in the slightest. It stank of cigarette smoke, there were fake nails all over the carpet, yellow stains in the baths and there were stains everywhere. The parking was very limited so it was nearly impossible to find a place to park. Not worth the price, spend an extra little bit to stay somewhere else.

Dirty room and bathroom, Room and corridors smelt and stains on carpets, Old beds and no fridge in room which was also really noisy. Breakfast not worth the money.

The location to the local train station a 14 minute walk. Spacious well appointed room. Good bathroom with plenty of power on the shower. Being at the front of the building road noise was apparent. But the real drawback was the mattress. Old soft not fit for purpose. Slept on the floor. Otherwise crippled by the morning. If my stay was any longer I would have to relocate to another hotel.

Good stay. Central location yet tucked out of the way. The room was clean & the staff were helpful & friendly. Only downside was the bathroom which was very dated so therefore looked very tired & looked grubby. Rust on fittings & leaky taps etc

I asked king bed. There were 2 single beds joined up It very uncomfortable to sleep in the middle I was told it zip mattress not sure what they were saying

Very dated hotel. Clean by 80’s standards. Room was cold, asked front desk for help, never came. Walls paper thin, floors squeaky. Toilet flushed very softly, couldn’t even clear urine from the bowl. I was awoke by every single passerby, anyone flushing the toilet, or anyone taking a shower. For over $150 a night, zero stars.

The room was on the front of the property leading on to a very busy road, lots of noise! had to have the windows open as it was very warm (No air con available). The carpet was old and very dirty, the bathroom was very dated as well and as for the the shower it was useless as it kept falling of the bracket.

One of the most unpleasant stays I’ve ever experienced. Extremely noisy hotel from both the outside traffic and other guests. Bed was the most uncomfortable bed ever and was well past its sell by date! Room was dated, cold and very smelly! This hotel was cheap for a reason and a place I would not return to!

It was clean and the bed was comfy. However the shower was either scolding hot or freezing cold and the hotel is in need of modernisation.

The hotel is in need of a refurb. The beds are lumpy, rooms/ bathrooms old, there is no sound insulation and rooms were very hot. It is ok if you need a quick stopover but would not recommend for a longer stay. Positives, are the location, just on the back of Watford high street, and the water pressure which was surprisingly good.

Hotel was the usual average for Best Western, adequate for business. Problem was the bed; I’d booked a king size bed due to my height, to I have the extra length so that my feet do not drop over the end, only to find this so called ‘king size’ was in fact two single beds locked together. This is not a king size bed; yes, it’s wider than a double but has no extra length and as I have wide shoulders too I simply do not fit and cannot sleep well in a single bed! It would have been acceptable if it was a single double mattress across both beds, where I can sleep at an angle, but this was 2 single beds with single mattresses so not acceptable. All the king sized beds are the same at this hotel so I opted for a standard double and to their credit the staff were excellent in sorting this, but for all prospective customers of this hotel be aware that the king size bed is nothing like it should be and should not be advertised as such.

On arrival was unaware of the £50 additional fee which would be refund once checked out. Concierge failed to inform us that that additional cost would take 3 to 14 working days to be put back into Bank account. Bathroom was old and dated and the mattress was very poor quality.

BW White House Hotel is a hidden gem - I hesitate to tell everyone what a great place it is for fear that it will become overrun and we will never be able to get another reservation but I cannot NOT tell the world how comfortable the hotel is, how conveniently located it is, AND MOST IMPORTANT HOW ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS THEIR STAFF ARE! Every front desk clerk was friendly and helpful, even with the craziest questions. Every cleaner, clerk, wait staff - just everyone - was absolutely the best and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to make our visit great.

We purchased two rooms for two nights with 6 members of family (3 adults & 3 children) there was lots of noise on the first night however the issue came on the 2nd night when the fire alarms were set of between 1am and 1:30am due to other guests in the next room having a very serious fight, when all the other hotel guests gathered in the reception we were left unattended not knowing what was going on whilst the only member of staff went to stop the fight, he then told us all go back to bed no fire, the fighting then continued outside on the premises for around an hour, when we called down to reception via the room phone he told us “it will sort itself out” our children had no sleep and had to witness some of the fighting not only that but it was live streamed all over the internet! The next morning when we complained to the general manager he questioned us and made us to feel like we had no place to complain even though he had no idea what had gone on the night before and had to “investigate” whilst we had breakfast, he questioned us and said he had watched on the cctv that we didn’t have to witness the fight (even though it was outside of our room) and said after watching us maki by our way to the reception due to the fire alarm we should have followed the fire exists making us feel uncomfortable and like he didn’t care! He then admitted that the staff had inadequate training and that is why all hotel guests were left alone in reception with the fire alarm going off.

Asked for a security deposit on check in, as I stay in many hotels around the country this was a first for me, especially as I had 2 rooms booked at £50 per room and it isn’t clear when booking that this was payable. Upon checking out advised up to 3 days, then after a phone call with my back advising no cancellation had been processed, I called up, very rude, unable to provide proof of cancellation of holding deposit (which they should be able to) and the manager refused to help be saying it can take 14 days. Called BW directly and they advised that it may carry the BW name, it is independently ran and can do what they want. AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS, WISH I PAID THE EXTRA AND STAYED AT THE HILTON

I have stayed there on several occasions and the Staff are always friendly and most helpful.

The staff were very accommodating.

Staff were lovely and welcoming and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome.

Been forced to leave a "deposit" for a very minimal decorated room. Left if after cpl of hrs after barely touching anything yet, my deposit is still blocked 6 days on. Never again at those hotels

Great location for Harry Potter tour, car parking if you are early.

The hotel was warm and clean. The parking is convenient. It’s very close to the centre. Staff have always been friendly, welcoming and helpful. It’s good for short stays

The staff was great. Everything else was just okay. The room was tired but not too noisy. Even with facing the parking lot. It’s about 15-20 min walk to the train station. I only stayed one night so I didn’t explore a lot but saw quite a few restaurants while walking to the hotel. There is nothing really close but within walking distance.

Used the property as a base for a trip to Wembley . Good overground and tube links available

The customer service was amazing, very friendly staff. However! This place is VERY noisy, the floors creak from the hallway all the the way through the room. There was a separate squeaky noise coming from the radiator. The break continental was very restricted in choice.

First impression was good, smart hotel with friendly staff at reception. £50 deposit taken at check in (maybe should be communicated before booking) room looks nice but the bed is very uncomfortable and lumpy and the bathroom is very dated, the rooms are clean. Would not recommend breakfast, £13 with a small selection and Luke warm at best

My second time staying here with business, lovely place to stay and the breakfast wasn’t bad either.

Breakfast can be improved. There is limited breakfast and everyday it is same.

Our room was on ground floor with uncomfortable beds and noisy. With respect to breakfast, variety was good. However, the water for the tea was cold and the floor quite sticky due to oil drips creating a trip hazard. The location of the hotel is very convenient to get to the high street and shopping. Free parking was appreciated.

Comfortable and quiet night, restaurant has a good selection of food a=of a good standard. The breakfast team were helpful and the receptionist very welcoming.

Room was very tired, looked straight out the 80's with some visible damage to surfaces in the bathroom. Air circulation was poor, a desk fan was provided to cool down while the radiators were cranked on. Bed was lumpy and bedding even more so. Noise travels between floors and walls. Impossible to block out light from the hallway and I have had one of the worst sleeps in my life. Breakfast was cook to order that morning, but service was impersonal. Quality of food was okay but not worth the price advertised.

I had a one night stay and i am struggling to understand how the experience could be bettered for the price. Super friendly staff, accommodating and welcoming, a great breakfast on offer as well. If I need to stay in the area again, I will not fail to book here

Staff friendly and efficient. Parking a bit of an issue as no signage. Bed was comfy and bedding was clean. Breakfast had been left on the warmer for too long, however I requested some fresh eggs and they were happy to oblige.
