Although this is a clean and comfortable Hotel, it is let down by the Leisure facilities it offers If you are booking based on having access to a gym and pool, then think again. The pool is verry small as are the changing rooms The changing toom is more like a coubord, and there is no dry floor anywhere, so you have to go back to your room bate foot.

Lighting in room very poor as rooms very dark. The additional £10 to use the pool seems very overpriced considering there were swimming lessons taking place so not very relaxing and also the jacuzzi was drained and out of action. Neither of these thing were told to me before I paid otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered.

Nice enough hotel, restaurant was decent and food was good. SPA facilities are paid extra which I just do not understand for hotel guests. £10 for a day pass and you'd be disappointed if you paid that. I ended up walking to Holiday Inn to use their facilities in the end.

No Air-Con !! Nothing to say in advance the AC had been broken for 5 weeks (Its a Daikin, so quite common for parts) Charge £10 for guests to use the pool...... oh thats right, Jacuzzi not working..... Big name chain, but 2* setup

Rooms are now quite tired for the amount you are paying. The gym is very small and again is looking quite old. Breakfast is expensive & not that great (last time I had it) so I no longer bother booking it & have breakfast elsewhere. It is a great location & is usually available so if thats what you need its OK

Great stay - Staff were excellent Shame you expected us to pay £10 per Visit to swimming pool as I booked 4 rooms For 3 nights and spent close to £2000 overall Surely a bit of flexibility would be good We would t mind paying £10 extra per person Apparently it was our Mistake by booing through Expedia Disappointing to be honest

Beautiful public area, gorgeous lounge/bar area. Staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Breakfast room OK but for some reason only half the lights on, so quite dark. Bedroom was lacklustre and soulless. Flickering bedside lights, no artwork on walls, corners of bath at shower end were in a sorry state- probably years of not quite being cleaned properly. Such as shame as the public part of the hotel is lovely- presumably to attract wedding couples. Not very sound proof, we were woken frequently by people in the corridor up until 2am, (there was not a wedding when we stayed)and then someone else's shower noise woke us up at 6am.

Plenty of free parking, staff all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size clean and very quiet. The cooked breakfast looked awful all dried out and very few veggie options. The security was non existant the doors to the outside around the hotel were left wide open and not locked also making parts of the hotel freezing.

The bathroom was dirty and there was mould around the bath. Could not have a bath have complained to the hotel and they said they would give you should give us a 50% refund the hotel. I sent you an email and I am waiting to hear from you, the hotel was not too Expedia standards. I am very disappointed. I hope you get back to me soon.

Obviously used to be a nice hotel in its day. But to see leaking roofs dripping into buckets on stairways is a big let down. The room itself looks dated and tired and could do with updating. The hairdryer didn't work despite having a sticker on it saying it had been tested recently. The overflow cover in the sink was hanging off. Dirty stains on the net curtains covering the windows. Dirt under the bed that had clearly been there for a while. The restaurant service in the evening was very good, and the food was also good. Breakfast was also quite good. But overall, it was a bit of a let down from a big-name brand. I expected better from a Mercure.

The staff were all very helpful and polite. But in a world of competition with similar hotel chains, this hotel is very tired. The ceiling in our room (top floor) had clearly had a leak repaired many times unsuccessfully. The old metal enamelled bath had multi chips and the old tiles looked like they had been on there since it was built. The toilet seat rocked and the flush took 4 or 5 presses of an old fashioned lever before it flushed. The room carpet was stained, and the duvet under the cover was all uneven and bobbly with age. The room in general was probably kept as clean as best possible, but not good enough for us I'm afraid. In a age of competition from similar hotel chains, it was poor and tired in my opinion, especially for over £100 per night (2 night stay) on a room only basis!

My room was crazy hot, with no air con and the window was screwed shut so didn't open at all. It was so hot in there I felt a bit dizzy. The staff were super nice and offered to switch rooms or give me a fan so no issues I guess it was just an older room that hadn't been upgraded.

They had no lift and I am disabled. The walk to the room and stairs made me ill. The room was OK but the bed was too hard and uncomfortable. They had a wedding on the Saturday night and the noise of the music was ridiculous with a thumping base, went on till midnight. I would never go back.

We booked half board but when we got there we were told that we had to order and eat in the bar area as the restaurant is for coach parties! Eating dinner when a coach load comes in, not pleasant. Next night there was a wedding in the marquee. We decided to eat in the conservatory, which was nice until the whole wedding party came in. After that we couldn’t get near the bar and had to go to our room with no dessert or more drinks. Also we were told there would be music from the wedding but wow it was so loud! As paying guests we felt like second class citizens. There should be a bar area for residents but as usual I expect the problem is they do not have enough staff to cover this. The staff did their best and the food we had was nice but we expected a four star experience with a nice dinner in the restaurant not bar service! Also the window in our bedroom had to be propped up with towels so we could get some fresh air. Overall not a great experience.

I didn’t enjoy my stay, there was no air conditioning and static issues with the metals in bathroom, no idea what that was but I got about hour and half’s sleep due to it being too hot and a really loud noise coming from the landing area.

Nice to be upgraded to privilege room but room really cold , heating didn’t seem to work . Nice big bed . Some drinks in fridge but no bottle opener to open them so waste of time we couldn’t drink them ! Really noisy people next door at 1 am they were still shouting so I tried to phone reception , phone not working from room so had to phone on my mobile . Security came and knocked on door and told them to be quiet . Not hotels fault we had noisy neighbours , couldn’t open window in morning and this was quiet grubby , hotel looks tired and lots of doors banging . Nice staff but overall I can only given it a ok marking

Comfortable hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. BUT.... Unhappy that they charged £100 to my debit card on arrival, and then the full cost of the stay on departure as well. I wasn't told that the £100 would take 5 days to be refunded, until I rang after seeing both charges on my bank statement. Not happy with this, and will be unlikely to stay again.

Generally satisfactory but hit by a choking chemical smell at the entrance. Bright airy eating area. Only one barmaid taking food & drink orders unable to do anything to reduce the growing queue. Corridors & room clean. Bed could do with a mattress cover - unyielding & a bit lumpy so I woke a few times - but did the job & I rose fresh in the morning. Shower great. Would return again if price is right. I’m a member of ALL but saved 6% on the app price by booking through hotels.com.

Room phone was plugged in to a hole in the wall so obviously no chance of getting room service….although the handily placed telephone next to the toilet did ring reception!!….nobody answered as they didn’t when I tried to call earlier when I wanted some check in information, anyway after walking for 10 mins to get back down to reception I was told by the one staff member that they had heard my call but they were too busy to answer it….3 people in the hotel lobby/bar were obviously demanding way to much attention, so I got redirected to the bar to order my room service and after the order was complete the staff member asked if I’d like to wait and take it back to my room myself (This is room service btw) or would I like it delivered to my room!!! Erm well could you deliver it please? If it’s not too much trouble? 😂 But got to say apart from the service being a bit dire the pillows in the room were even worse! As was the mattress….probs best saving your £ and sleep on the car park….which btw after paying for your room you’ll get charged £10 for!!!

Did not get the room I booked for and paid extra to get. When I mentioned it to the old chap on reception he said they have no rooms available, but the car park was not full! I had arrived late and find this hard to believe. He said they would sort something in the morning and he would leave a note. I explained to a lady with dark hair on reception Maria was her name and she was not sympathetic or understanding and giving off an angry vibe. Just some advice for you go on a hospitality course! Our company will now not be staying at your hotel because of you. 3 of our staff have mentioned you to me for other reasons. So in a nutshell I didn’t get a refund for the room and finger crossed none of you encounter the wrath of Maria!

The ladies on reception were lovely, very friendly and informative. The room was very spacious and clean. The lady on the bar was great too, smiley and chatty even late on when the bar filled up after the Becky Hill show at Haydock racecourse!

We just stayed for one night as we were attending the races at Haydock. Great hotel with excellent service and nice rooms [we had 7 booked]. Only downside was walking distance to the racecourse and getting taxis was a nightmare [obviously not the hotels fault].

Hotel is very close to main roads, so good for access but not so good for noise. It's in need of some updating but it was perfectly fine. My room was freezing until I found a portable heater in the cupboard, then spot on. Unfortunately cleanliness was poor - there were hairs in the bath and a completely unmissable piece of dental floss on the sink. The restaurant got my order wrong first time, but when my actual dinner arrived it was very good. A real mixed bag, but on balance I'd stay again as long as they sorted out the cleaning 🙂

Samantha, the Receptionist went out of her way to help us book a taxi on a very busy evening. Tom Jones was in Concert at Haydock Racecourse and we were heading there. All staff were very helpful in the restaurant. The room was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good. The Hotel was further away from the racetrack than I expected it to be. The older generation (like me 😊) and people with disabilities would be unable to walk there. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

The restaurant wasn’t open it was just bar service only. One reason for booking this hotel was for the swimming pool, to relax after work. It closed earlier than advertised. The doors to the area were locked. Disappointing when it was supposed to be open for a further hour.

Staff were friendly. Unfortunately there was a wedding on the night we stayed. I was tired after an eight hour drive. I used the pool and sauna, but unfortunately the jacuzzi and steam room were out of order. We went for a meal as it was included in the room rate. The menu available was severely reduced. The Breakfast /lunch bar menu plus a couple of specials. The service was very slow I think they forgot we were there. Food was ok, but I think the main course had sat out for a while. We went back to the room, and listened to the wedding disco until it finished at midnight.

This suited me for a work event at Haydock Park, a 2/3 minute drive away. From the outside the hotel looks welcoming, as were the staff at reception. However, it is well overdue a refurb, the rooms were especially cold, with the heater set at its highest still inadequate. It did snow lightly during the evening but I would expect a warmer room. The evening bar meal (chicken burger), wasn’t great. It was ordered at 8pm, having just arrived at the hotel after a long drive. It was quite burnt and mostly left. The restaurant area also felt tired, carpets, decor, etc. and the breakfast was only passable. Ideal location for the racecourse, but little else would entice me back.

Checking was quick and easy. Receptionist explained about where to dine and that if I wanted to use the pool it was a £10 fee. I went pool, honestly don't waste your money it was tiny and the sauna and jacuzzi were to small for more than 2 people. Food and drink was good with very pleasant service. Would happily stay again

Warm welcome from reception staff, room was spacious, clean and bed very comfortable. The window frame was black with some damp stains. The bar and restaurant staff were great. Ludya was our server both nights and very attentive and helpful. We had to complain about the cooking of a steak and a steak sandwich which the meat was more than well done. I had a plant based burger and it was flavourless and the bun was chewy. Breakfast was good but overall the food was not of a standard that matched the price charged. Food also took a long time to arrive. There was one server who joked inappropriately saying did my husband want a bib like her children because she had heard me comment to him when some cheesecake fell of his spoon. If I needed to stay here again I would go out to eat somewhere local.

Breakfast was plentiful, but both the coffee machines could not produce better than "warm" coffee. The bar coffee machine could produce HOT coffee. Room was clean and comfortable, BUT the window would not fully close, producing a slight draught. I could not find the source until the final night, a very slight failure to close
