Hotel room was very clean and reasonably comfortable, though the whole place looked a little tired and needs updating. There are no breakfasts at present which was disappointing as we had to drive somewhere to find somewhere for breakfast. There is a co-op nearby and there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room so we managed. The walls were thin, so we could hear other guests in the early hours and the bed springs were a little creaky. The shower took a little working out as the controls were the opposite of what would be expected, however once worked out it was adequate. We ate in the attached Oscars restaurant on our first evening and the food and service were very good. Reception and cleaning staff were very friendly.

Noisy. Don’t accept a room in the ground floor. You will hear every single step from the room above you! And when you want to leave, if the reception guy forgot to tell you to place the keys in the letter box(!!!) you will end up not knowing where to leave them as you won’t have any access to the reception before 9am!! I had to stay 10 min in the rain and then I gave up!! Otherwise Oscars restaurant (in the lodge) has nice yummy pasta that I highly recommend!

Bell at reception didn’t work - no staff available for check-in. We were only helped after a local customer mentioned us to the bar staff. On arrival had to push through crowd of smokers and drunk people to reach the reception desk. Check-in, once some one came to desk was easy and fast. Room was disappointing, very small, felt dirty with dust on light fixtures, stains in the runners on beds and makeup on my supposedly clean towel. Bedroom window looked out onto brick wall, and we could hear chatter from the beer garden late into the night. Bathroom was overlooked by ‘beer garden’ where smokers congregated, no frosting on glass so they could see directly in. Shower was mouldy with black mould, compounding the feeling of the room being dirty. Within 10 mins of being in the room we searched for an alternative hotel. The noise from room above and hallway was exceptionally loud, with no soundproofing and footfall of guests above keeping us awake until 3am. Breakfast was unavailable but there was a greggs and coop within a 2 minute walk. This felt like a budget hotel, I have stayed in nicer hostels for £15 per night, this cost more than 10 times that amount. Feel like we were ripped off and would never ever come back.

I booked this properly as it was only 15 minutes back To the airport drop off for my hire car following a 2 week holiday to Scotland, including Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands. The room, bar and restaurant were all right next to each other which was convenient and I was suprised how quiet it was when sleeping which was great. The staff that served me at the reception and restaurant were all very polite, friendly and efficient and there was a good choice of meals on the menu. The property is not too far from Edinburgh and the airport but in the close by area there is not much to do near close by to the hotel.

Early check in went well and we were shown to our room which had everything we needed and was lovely and clean. The bed was very comfortable and I slept really well. Only criticism I have is the first impression on entering the bedroom block......was how dirty the carpet on the floor and stairs is which made me wonder if I should have booked the property. But entering the bedroom changed that idea and all was well.

Our twin room (Rm 11) was compact but fine for our needs (staying overnight before collecting someone from hospital in Edinburgh). Shower room was spotlessly clean but the door to it creaked loudly. The carpet has seen better days. We shut the sliding wardrobe doors when we saw what appeared to be dead centipedes, later discovered to be a previous occupant's false eyelashes! The room was far too hot and we dispensed with the duvets for most of the night. Beds were comfortable.

Outdated room, burn marks on the carpet, leaking radiator, room was cold. The toilet systern didn't flush nad also the the top of the systern was hitting the wall, rusty handles in bathroom.

Cleaning staff quite noisy in the morning. Talking quite loudly in the hall. Floorboards are awful in the upstairs room when you are staying on the ground floor. We had the luxury of very early risers (6am) and they were constantly on there feet for an hour and half before they went out. I also wasnt best pleased payment had been taken before i arrived. If i hadn't turned up i completely understand it might have been taken later that evening. I actually wanted to pay on a different card to what i held the booking on. Otherwise a very basic hotel. Room was nice and clean, just what we needed as a base. Restraunt next door was lovely.

Room was basic but functional. Noisy as near the hotel so earplugs solved that issue. For the room price it was very satisfactory. Reception staff were great and very helpful at checkin.

Good. I was a bit worried after reading the reviews however, it was cheap, cheerful, can’t really complain. Bed was a bit uncomfortable but for the price we paid, it’s hardly worth mentioning. Towels weren’t changed which is fine, but one was taken and not replaced which was a bit awkward. Staff were very helpful and pleasant, can’t fault them. We did require assistance at around 10pm one night and no one was on the desk, however, they may have been at the bar, I just didn’t try there, as it was not important enough for me to go searching for someone. Overall, if you want something cheap, near to the train station, St John’s hospital, and the shopping centre, it’s a bargain. One other thing, they don’t have Uber there because it was killing local taxi companies business, but they do have very cheap and efficient private taxis for around the same price point, the staff were very helpful and provided a few numbers. I would recommended if you’re looking for something affordable and somewhere to rest your head. It’s no frills, but worth the money.

2 night stay between flying back from a personal holiday and needing to be in Edinburgh for business so opted to stay locally instead of unnecessary mileage. late arrival but no problem, reception called me about 11pm to check all was okay as they were about to handover to night staff. room was overall very good, little tired in places but clean everywhere it needed to be, dusty on tops of skirting etc so some care/time in room prep missing, but bed was comfy, and plenty of room for clothes, reasonable sized bathroom (shower a bit underpowered but was warm and clean). would I stay again, Yes. Bell at reception didn’t work - no staff available for check-in. We were only helped after a local customer mentioned us to the bar staff. On arrival had to push through crowd of smokers and drunk people to reach the reception desk. Check-in, once some one came to desk was easy and fast. Room was disappointing, very small, felt dirty with dust on light fixtures, stains in the runners on beds and makeup on my supposedly clean towel. Bedroom window looked out onto brick wall, and we could hear chatter from the beer garden late into the night. Bathroom was overlooked by ‘beer garden’ where smokers congregated, no frosting on glass so they could see directly in. Shower was mouldy with black mould, compounding the feeling of the room being dirty. Within 10 mins of being in the room we searched for an alternative hotel. The noise from room above and hallway was exceptionally loud, with no soundproofing and footfall of guests above keeping us awake until 3am. Breakfast was unavailable but there was a greggs and coop within a 2 minute walk. This felt like a budget hotel, I have stayed in nicer hostels for £15 per night, this cost more than 10 times that amount. Feel like we were ripped off and would never ever come back.

I booked this properly as it was only 15 minutes back To the airport drop off for my hire car following a 2 week holiday to Scotland, including Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands. The room, bar and restaurant were all right next to each other which was convenient and I was suprised how quiet it was when sleeping which was great. The staff that served me at the reception and restaurant were all very polite, friendly and efficient and there was a good choice of meals on the menu. The property is not too far from Edinburgh and the airport but in the close by area there is not much to do near close by to the hotel.

Good. I was a bit worried after reading the reviews however, it was cheap, cheerful, can’t really complain. Bed was a bit uncomfortable but for the price we paid, it’s hardly worth mentioning. Towels weren’t changed which is fine, but one was taken and not replaced which was a bit awkward. Staff were very helpful and pleasant, can’t fault them. We did require assistance at around 10pm one night and no one was on the desk, however, they may have been at the bar, I just didn’t try there, as it was not important enough for me to go searching for someone. Overall, if you want something cheap, near to the train station, St John’s hospital, and the shopping centre, it’s a bargain. One other thing, they don’t have Uber there because it was killing local taxi companies business, but they do have very cheap and efficient private taxis for around the same price point, the staff were very helpful and provided a few numbers. I would recommended if you’re looking for something affordable and somewhere to rest your head. It’s no frills, but worth the money.

Hotel was nice for my stay. Its a bit outdated but overall nice quiet area. Didnt know that the reception area did not open until check in time at 2pm and it was disappointing after being delayed and not being able to checkin but let me tell you. We chose this lodge hotel because all the other hotels nearer to Edinburgh was too expensive. But the location wasn’t convenient for those who don’t have a car. The first night, because it was Sunday, the closest train station’s train ended very early, and we had to use the farther station, Livingston South, instead of Livingston North. We asked the hotel to send a taxi to the station. It was raining and cold and we had to wait for a while. The next morning, it was Monday, we walked to the closer train station, Livingston North, about 10min walk, and the train was nice and punctual. So, if you use trains, be careful with the train schedule. Especially on weekends. On the way back to the hotel, we rented a car at Waverly station, it wasn’t that bad. The room was small, but OK enough. The shower had no problem. Wifi was good.

It's a nice place, ageing a little. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's not a lot to do in the area. There are a couple of supermarkets and fast food places. There is some public transport but the buses run infrequently and it's always a little hike to get to the stops. The train connection is okay, it just takes 20mins to get to the station.

Check in was great and really friendly staff. The room was fine for us as we were going to the Fringe each day and just using the room for sleep each night. The bed was comfy, a nice hot shower and clean towels. It was a basic room but was good value for money. The noise from people walking around upstairs is quite loud but again for the cost of the room its acceptable. No breakfast was available but there are shops very close, so that is no problem. The train station is 12 mins walk away with a 20 min train ride into Waverley. So for the Fringe is was ok if you didnt want to pay top price in town.

Hotel room was very clean and reasonably comfortable, though the whole place looked a little tired and needs updating. There are no breakfasts at present which was disappointing as we had to drive somewhere to find somewhere for breakfast. There is a co-op nearby and there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room so we managed. The walls were thin, so we could hear other guests in the early hours and the bed springs were a little creaky. The shower took a little working out as the controls were the opposite of what would be expected, however once worked out it was adequate. We ate in the attached Oscars restaurant on our first evening and the food and service were very good. Reception and cleaning staff were very friendly.

Nice bar staff were plesent on booking in asked what time break fast is said they don’t do breakfast which is a waist of time staying there as needed breakfast as it was my sones wedding the next morning and next meal would of been 1500after the they were married . We need to go to Greg’s for bacon roles around the corner. The room decor requires a revamp carpets cleaned . Shower water pressure very low bed average comfort overall I would not stay again
