Fantastic hotel and service only gave 4 star for condition as in middle of refurb to make it even better - the changes so far to the pool area are second to none

Reception staff member very helpful and pleasant. Room was wonderful, very spacious and super clean. Loved the little extras. Spa facilities lovely too.

Me and my husband arrived for our honey moon. Nothing was too much bother for the staff who were very helpful. The hotel was clean and tidy perhaps a little bit dated as in carpets and decor. The parking facilities were good, plenty of free available bays. The gardens and views from our room were fantastic. We made us of the tennis court which was again free. Lots of choice for breakfast although small portion that is made to order. Small (sh) menu for evening meal which was laced in salt on first two evenings however we discussed this with the staff and asked for no salt on our meals which was quickly rectified. We were residents within the hotel and felt like we were rugby tackled as in you havent booked a table with us have you on two evenings, yet there were quite a lot of empty tables, however quickly rectified. Beds comfortable. Last two days of our stay we were upgraded from four poster room to a downstairs suite with a lounge area and fridge etc which we thought was a nice gesture. Tourist places nearby easy to get to via car, and a bus stop literally outside the hotel so you can travel around sight seeing. Wildlife park down the road which was well worth a visit, again literally a 15 min walk, which we enjoyed and got to feed the animals, we did the Beatrix potter half day tour which entailed a bus and boat trip from Windermere which was good. Great place to relax, unwind with peace and tranquility so me and my husband would definitely recommend this hotel 😃

Staff were very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. The leisure facilities are fabulous and our children loved it. The roaring log fire was our favourite spot to sit and play a game or two.

Really nice hotel with great pool, hot tub, sauna. Only stayed for one night but definitely coming back.

Excellent ample parking, reception friendly and efficient,room comfortable and clean but tired Hotel undergoing renovation which wasn’t evident on booking resulting in bar not open and insufficient staff to deal with orders in timely manner and Sauna closed. good breakfast Would still recommend

We stayed in a very spacious family room on the top floor which was great , it was lovely & clean with comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly. The pool was great for the teenagers and a nice little spa area. The hotel does look old fashioned and needs a revamp but with that said I can see some areas have been updated and overall it doesn’t effect having a good stay here!

Lovely welcome, great pool area and restaurant was nice. The rooms are huge and they have everything you need. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment which is desperately needed but the staff were brilliant and we felt very happy there. Location is good and the grounds are beautiful.

Well, arrived at reception around 2.30pm, no one to be seen. Had to use the phone to call for someone to come and check us in. Tried at that point to charge us for the dog, when I had received communications via Hotel.com that the room (which was a more expensive one) was not one of their dog friendly rooms, so they have moved us to a different dog room and we wouldn’t be charged for the dog. Room, in fact the whole hotel was very tried, in need of a refresh, updating and some heating on. Bar are extremely cold where we had to sit for dinner and breakfast with the dog. Service slow, other tables who arrived later than us served before etc even after I requested if someone could take our order. Pool, jacuzzi out of order for the weekend!!!! One reason why I booked the hotel. Food average, to say the least. Room had not been hovered, and bathroom floor had dust, hair etc on it. Check out, once again tried to charge me for the dog!!! Person in front of use was complaining that their room had not been cleaned as they found food etc on the floor!!! Sorry lovely setting but let down by the ‘old, dated, cold’ hotel, food and service.

The gym and pool facilities were excellent, the grass tennis court was an unexpected bonus with an interesting bounce, the food in the bar was excellent, and the rooms were very comfortable. We’d definitely stay there again.

Bedroom had good looking spider, carpet had nice rust spots, bathroom door was definitely needed trimming.

The Castle Inn is situated approximately 4 miles outside of Keswick, it is surrounded by mountain views, fields and idealic views. The Bassenthwaite Lake is a 40 minute walk away, a Wildlife park is a 20 minute walk away and Dodd Wood Forestry/Osprey View Point is a bus journey away. The hotel staff made us feel very welcome, we're polite and answered any questions we had. Breakfast has a nice variety of food, the Tavern food was expensive but worth the big portion sizes, the leisure club area was very nice with a big indoor pool (unfortunately the stone sauna was closed due to maintenance) and gym. The room was dated, the air was very dusty (even with the window open we could taste and feel the dust in the air (thankfully we didn't spend a lot of time in the room). The bathroom was very modern, big with a nice sized bath, shower and plenty of space to get dressed. The room needs to be aired out and deep cleaned. I wish we were able to order food from the room, instead of going to the Tavern to order it (especially after a long day of walking or hiking).

Room 31 was clean and tidy, but the shower was too hot, and a leaking tap. The room we were moved to (127) was also very clean and tidy. The staff were very nice and helpful. The hot tub/jaccuzi could have been warmer. When we went in it was not very warm.

Pros: Great location and the rooms were in very good condition. Server at dinner and breakfast beyond lovely, (but was absolutely rushed off her feet so drinks took a while). Cons: Receptionist seemed to do the minimum e.g. She gave minimal information about pool, where there were no towels available and no staff anywhere. And no apologies for that when I went along to get towels (it's quite far between the two). Pool also hard to find/ not well signposted. Only downside of the room was significant mould behind shower door. Food on the more basic side in terms of hot breakfast. If the room was cheaper I'd be less fussed.

No tv in bedroom, room was not serviced second night. No contact was made by hotel to rectify it.

There was a refurbishment taking place which we were not aware of from booking through Hotels.com There was painting and carpet laid across the flooring on the way to the pool and room. The workmen were friendly and helpful but the hotel was not as we would have expected for the ratings we had read. The Safe in the room didn’t work. My daughter found a hair in her folded towel and the shower water stopped coming out out of the shower head in the middle of my daughter’s hairwash. She has escema and her skin looked very sore. An enjoyable stay but not what we had expected

I was quite surprised how beautiful the place was, our room was very spacious and comfortable. I was very happy with the two 50 inch TV. The bathroom was clean and tidy. The kids were very happy with our time there.

There seemed to be some construction work going on (which we weren't advised of in advance) and the reception was moved and it felt like you had to go down a maze of corridors to find it. The double bed was just two singles connected together. Not what I would expect. Upon arrival we were asked what time we wanted breakfast and we said 8.30-9am, we're were abruptly asked 'we'll, which is it? 8.30 or 9am'. We decided on 9am. The next morning we went for breakfast at 9am and it took 15-20mins for someone to take our order (after I had to ask). Our breakfast arrived at 9.45am. Really not the service I was expecting.

Booked a mid-week break to get away from it all. Had room 104. Lovely suite, with sitting area. Bed was comfortable, but the room was very warm. No A/c, just a fan. Thank goodness we didn't stay during the July heatwave. Food in the restaurant was very tasty, but I would call it a bar not a restaurant. Good choice for breakfast.

Staff and food spot on. Rooms a little dated and came with no fridge which was a surprise. Building work was going on which cannot be helped but would have been nice to be informed.

As previous review, hotel undergoing renovations, however we did not find them intrusive. Staff great, good swimming poo, and excellent breakfast. TV in our room didn’t work properly, but maintenance due to fix. Thank you.

The hotel is very friendly staff couldnt do enough for you . The food was 5 star on all meals and we could also pay extra to have breakfast in bed . (Real treat ) We had a four poster room which was lovely and a good size but a little noisey from the road .The beds and pillows were to hard for us but this is our preference so might suit a lot of people. All in all a wonderful stay and enjoyed the pool and sauna ,jacuzzi also We will ba back

My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Castle Inn. Situated in Bassenthwaite, it's just a 15-minute drive into Keswick. There's also a bus that gets you there in 20 minutes - the bus stop is right outside the hotel. There is free on-site parking, and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. All the people we encountered were lovely, from the receptionist to the bar and restaurant staff. We had a family room, consisting of a king-size bed and two singles. There was a lounge area with TV, large wardrobes, a second TV facing the double bed, and a desk area with lots of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits, water, etc. The beds were really comfortable, and there was a fan in the room. The bathroom was clean and well-equipped. A bath, separate shower cubicle, and plenty of complimentary toiletries, even toothbrushes and toothpaste. The view from the room was lovely - it overlooked the gardens, tennis court, and putting green. The restaurant served a good selection of meals, with plenty of options for the kids and vegetarian options too. I had the Cumberland Curl (sausage), with mash and vegetables, which was very tasty! On-site facilities include a gym, heated pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. The kids loved the pool! Breakfast was excellent, with continental and cooked options available. Although the hotel is currently being renovated, this had no impact on our stay. We will definitely stay here again when we next visit the Lake District.

Stayed in a family room with wife and 3 kids. Room was very spacious and comfortable, with lovely views from large windows. Dinner and breakfast both very good with lots of options. I left a jacket by mistake, and the staff were really great and shipped it back to me right away. Great service! Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel with a lovely pool, good breakfast etc. Unfortunately the staff let it down. Reception staff very unhelpful to me and other guests that were in front of me. Not enough staff at breakfast.

We enjoyed a quiet weekend in the Lake District in the Castle Inn conveniently located near Keswick. The hotel is comfortable and in the late stage of being upgraded; this was happening in the background and did not impact nor disturb. I did feel the staff were a bit thin on the ground; however, they could not have been more friendly or helpful, they really made us feel welcome. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Stay was excellent , especially the staff. Elizabeth in the restaurant remembered me from the last time and asked about the family . She is a treasure and should be treated as such- and no ,,she did not pay me for writing this

Staff were excellent

The rooms are a good size but remember this is a traditional hotel so there is lots of old wood and floral curtains. The pool is a good size with Jacuzzi. Food is ok but cheap so you get what you pay for. Breakfast was ok but could be better. The staff are very friendly especially the chap with the tattoos but they are over stretched. The chap with the shirt on is very grumpy.

This property is under renovations and for good reason. However, it should be completely closed to complete it. Nothing seems to be completely functioning. Staff was unresponsive and seemingly unwilling to help with requests. We called the front desk and asked for a hair dryer and a fan and they told us to look in the wardrobe. The room is 300sqft! We checked the wardrobe. They never called back and when I went down to ask about a hair dryer or a power converter that the room guide said would be available at the front, I was told that the keys don’t work due to Remodelling and the staff doesn’t come in until 10am. Apparently guests needs can only be scheduled between 10am and 5pm M-F.

A pleasant two-night break. Hotel is good and reasonably priced though you'll struggle for things to do nearby if you don't have a car. Nice room, comfy bed and the restaurant is good too

The starters were ok but pricey and the main meal we had a type of chicken curry consisted of processed chicken and lack lustre would not recommend as is. The staff were lovely.

The hotel is in a quiet rural area out of town. It would be beneficial if you have a car, but there is a good bus service and the bus stop is across the road from the hotel. When we were there the hotel was being renovated but we never found this a problem and everyone was very helpful, lovely staff.

The hotel is very convenient for the North Lakes. Good to be a few miles away from overcrowded Keswick. Loads of parking, and rare to find a swimming pool in the area at a reasonable price. Really appreciated the pool and Jacuzzi after a day walking. booked a standard room and found it to be a good size and well furnished. Only serves meals in the bar but ours turned out to be very good. Breakfast nothing special but quite ok. Hannah was friendly and helpful on reception. Been before and will go again.

The property was in a lovely setting, and very central for places to visit. The breakfast was lovely. The only downside was no evening menu only bar food which there wasn’t much to choose from. We were quite disappointed as were looking forward to the Al a carte menu which we had when we visited some years ago. So we had to go elsewhere for evening meal

Stayed at the castle inn hotel for 2 nights last weekend. Was a bit of a mixed bag to be fair. Good things: - great location - The room was clean, very quiet, plenty of space, the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom lovely - Great breakfast, plenty of choice. The breakfast room was nice with lovely views Not so good things: - the restaurant was not great. Menu was average and pretty basic (we would have really struggled to find something to eat if we would have stopped another night). The restaurant area was not that great for a hotel, we likened it to a weatherspoons, why they did not use the breakfast room at least for hotel guests is beyond me! - The staff….virtually all staff really need to go on a customer service course. Never once did I feel valued, most of the time they said the minimum possible with no ‘thank you’s’. A couple of examples; on day 2 our pass key stopped working so I went to the reception desk. She sorted the issue but just passed the key back to me saying ‘that’s done’. No ‘I’m sorry about that’. Also, in the restaurant when you got your food there was no ‘how is your food’ we were just left to it, when they came to clear the plates away the waitress just took them without saying a word. Overall just basic common sense things that they are not doing which doesn’t reflect well on a 3 star hotel with a spa. Despite the issues I would recommend for the location and the lovely rooms, just go elsewhere for an evening meal

The rooms we stayed in were very clean, the staff were helpful and well staffed nothing was any bother for us. We made use of the tennis court which was also included and free! Lovely beer garden and the flower gardens were beautiful and well kept. View of the lake and hills from our room was wonderful. Parking was good with ample free parking bays. Good selection of breakfast choices ranging from continental and full English. The evening meal choices were not that good as menu was a bit small which had fish, pie, burger, steak, and sausage. Our first two evening meals of our visit were laced in salt however after ordering the steak on our third evening meal we kindly told the staff that we would prefer no salt, which the staff did for us and got to admit the meal was very tasty. Would highly recommend this hotel 😃

We enjoyed our two night stay, nice big hotel, friendly staff, ample parking, brilliant shower and lovely views! The food isn’t brilliant just average pub food and the drinks are quite expensive for the area! Parts of the hotel are looking a bit tired now and in need of a refurbishment!
