Howard Johnson by Wyndham San Marcos

The staff has no personality and no customer service skills. The continental breakfast was simply horrible. The bread was left out. The muffins were hard. There was no juice only coffee. The AC wasn't working and very stuffy in breakfast/front desk area.

I didn’t realize they were external rooms. I thought they would be hall entry but it was ok. Front desk was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and fairly updated. Overall good experience.

If you are looking for a room on a budget, this is the place for you. Nice property owners, clean beds, bathrooms, and floors. It takes the ac a bit to catch up so get there at check in and turn it on. If you are looking for breakfast, this is not the place for you. This place has bagles, toast, oatmeal, bananas, and cereal.

The hotel room smelled like pot and cigarettes. We stayed for 4 nights and housekeeping never came and cleaned or changed the trash. Also there was no coffee pot in the room.

The room was fairly clean. There was a Hershey candy bar wrapper on the clothes shelf. And the room didn't smell too good. And the A/C leaked water on the floor inside the room. The young man didn't know how to give me a receipt when I checked out. I paid cash for the room when we checked in and when I asked for a receipt for the cash he said they don't give a receipt until you check out, and I said I'm sorry but I just gave you almost $400.00.cash and I want a receipt. All I could get him to do was copy the paper I signed to check in. Big thing was I requested a first floor room and didn't get it. I'm 72 and just recovering from a severe heart attack, my third one. So the stairs to the second floor for a few days was a real pain. And all he could say was everybody wants a ground floor room. And the first floor I could see was full of young people leaving with swim suits and kayaks to go enjoy the river nearby. And it was only a Motorlodge and not a full fledged Hotel. So needless to say I won't be returning to the HoJo in San Marcos Texas anymore. And I've stayed at Howard Johnsons in several states over the years with my children as they grew up. And all I could do was tell the couple that went with us how good Howard Johnsons was. So they won't be returning to Howard Johnsons either.
