Residencial Mares

The property couldn’t be in a better location and it has a quaint rustic ambience. There was a restaurant attached to the property that served pretty good food. We had a room with a small balcony and it had a nice rooftop view of the antique town that surrounds the property. No elevator and the stairs are tricky to navigate but the staff was willing to help you bring your bag up and down. Overall a nice stay for a couple of days.

Amazing breakfast — fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee machine to make lattes and cappuccinos even had decaf! Free parking at parking lot down the street.

Expedia said onsite parking but did not exist. Google maps takes you to alley in back of building but no marking on building and you cannot enter. Lost for a while. No elevator so a haul. Staff friendly and restaurant was very good.

Wonderful B&B, clean, comfortable & very convenient! Staff very helpful, good selection for breakfast & with a new Bistro for lunch & dinner with discount for residents serving excellent food you didn’t have to go far if you were hampered by inclement weather (as l was for my few days)! Highly recommended!

Lovely small hotel by the Tavira River. We enjoyed our stay. Very good breakfast and enjoyed the roof top deck. Great location. Take the boat to the most amazing walking beach.

Enjoyable 7 days here . staff friendly and helpful. Room and bed comfortable . Good selection of food at breakfast .A roof terrace to chill out. Great location opposite the boat to the island and a few minutes flat walk to the old town . Beautiful little town .

Advertised free parking was not on property. Free parking is 200 meters away in a public parking lot. No hot water for showers. Other than that the hotel was clean, quaint, nice attached restaurant and comfortable bed.

Heat/cool system did not keep the set point temperature. The heating system did not work on our last night. Room is very small. Staff were fine. Balcony provides a great view of the river. There is no elevator.

Excellent location, stayed for weekend in Sept when lots of concerts and activities happening. For that reason parking was at a premium,we parked in a free lot 10 min walk away but was very safe. Boat to Tavira island literally across the street, worth a trip. Restaurants across the bridge within walking distance.The front desk personnel very friendly,let us store our luggage till room was ready. Stairs to rooms only. Our room was very small, once luggage opened ( not large suitcases) was cramped. We did forego housekeeping as there was no room to move around. We did see large chain hotel but decided we were glad we stayed in Residencial Marés just for the location and Portuguese vibe.

we arrived at 14h30, but had to wait till 15h00 to get our room, although this was ready for check-in!! Bathroom was continuously smelling badly!

The condition of the rooms was crusty. The bathrooms were musty, as were the rooms. There was mold. A lot of condensation on doors and windows. Our pillows were awful. Every last one. The water pressure was problematically strong. Shower was painful, toilet flush scary. Cute and convenient location, off site parking was easy in February, restaurant below with free breakfast. The breakfast was maybe 7/10 but convenient and well staffed. I’d return (if they get new pillows) but I’d only pay so much to stay here or inquire about the quality of other family sized rooms.

Room floor was not cleaned properly. No box of tissue. Complaint about the building next door re the construction noise for four days.

Residencial Marés is well located in the Tavira downtown area. At first impression, my room looked spotless; however, once I took my first shower, the water sprayed through the shower door and onto the floor. I had to use all my towels to wipe up the floor. This issue was brought to the owners' attention; however, to fix the shower, they would have to rebuild it. I spent eight days without an efficient shower. Also, although the place was clean, there were areas where the paint was peeled from the ceiling and the walls. I was under the impression that this hotel was recently renovated. If so, there is still work that needs to be done. The owners seem aware of this issue and have not repaired the shower. As I was leaving, my room was already booked for another guest. Breakfast was included with my stay. However, I must say that the eggs and bacon and even the pastries were cold no matter what time of the morning I had breakfast. I would reconsider another place before staying at this hotel for future visits. Fortunately, the beauty of the village of Tavira made up for the struggles I experienced with this hotel. If you plan to stay at this hotel, please bring your own shampoo and conditioner and lotion as none as provided. Also, there was no iron in the room.

Authentic traditional hotel right by the river. Lovely big balcony, good breakfast and room cleaned every day.

The room was a disgrace. A tiny, tiny room with a cupboard up high in the wall, not a room with a wardrobe like shown in the pictures for the room booking. The bath room was so small I could hardly get into it. There was a step up from the room to the bathroom, another step up to the basin and then another one to the toilet. It was impossible to sit straight on the toilet because your legs hit the wall in front. I do not understand how this rooms is legal. The shower was a cubicle in the corner with multiple sliding sections. Some were broken. There was brown stuff sitting in the shower drain and stains on the shower cubicle floor. The shower did not drain properly. The water built up in the cubicle. The room was nothing like what they and Hotels.com advertise on their websites. I stayed one night only because it was so late when I arrived I had no option to find other accommodation. I paid for 4 nights. The hotel would not refund my money and Hotels.com couldn't care less either. The hotel even put through to Hotels.com and messaged me that they cancelled the booking. No they didn't. I LEFT THE HOTEL because it was so terrible.

Friendly helpful staff. Rooms were small but clean. Enjoyed sitting out on the little balcony. Excellent location very close to restaurants, cafes, shops. The ferry to the Ilha de Tavira is across the street.

Our room had a great view of the river from our balcony, and we got to listen to a street performer sing some great songs in the evening. The location of this hotel is awesome; lots of great restaurants are within a short walking distance & the shuttle boat to Liha deTavira is literally right out front. The room had character, but it was a bit cramped and needed some updates (like bedding, tile, etc.). The folks at the front desk were super helpful and kind. The rates were reasonable for this location. They also served a decent breakfast each morning in the restaurant downstairs.

Good hotel, well located. If you get the single room, it is extremely small. The washroom is almost too small to be functional. The rest of the rooms seemed good.

Stayed one night with my husband. Had the perfect view of the beautiful town of Tavira from our second floor, riverfront balcony. Also had a wonderful view of the sunrise over the river from here before walking out to the salt pans to see the flamingos. Many great restaurants and attractions very close. Walked everywhere easily. Room amenities were as advertised and very good. Parking was available a short distance from the property but we were able to unload and load luggage at the door. Breakfast was very good with all of the usual items available. Front desk staff were excellent and very friendly.

This Boutique Hotel is ideally located. Right on the river with a constant breeze. The Ferry to the beach is right across the road. Lots of restaurants near. The staff were exceptional! We highly recommend this lovely Hotel.

We had a lovely stay at this property. Check in was seamless and staff was helpful with added information about their area.

The reception people were not friendly or welcoming. Found it noisy as directly in front of island ferry. Room was stuffy but door windows opened. Toilet would tip over I told woman receptionist but she did nothing. Shower leaked and didn’t drain so had to stand in murky water. Beds comfortable. Sister booked to stayed in a different room and left immediately, it was a closet with window overlooking lane way and Indian food wafted in. Our room overlooked river but it was chilly and our side got no sun so we’re sort of were cold the whole time. Great location for ferry. Parking a block or so away in public lot. Not easy to find the place. Google maps was lost too. Make sure to have phone calling available to you. Breakfast was good and servers were lovely. Place needs a deep cleaning imho. Reception should try to smile.

Good budget hotel with all you needed for short stay, near local restaurants ferry for beach and tavira town at doorstep. Paulo on reception recommended local restaurants and areas of interest. Hotel covenient for stay in Tavira. Close to all amenities and within easy walking distance main square and ferry to island hop. Free local parking. Rooms clean and comfortable albeit the rooms were a little small river view room. Hotel stagf very helpful Paulo on provided all tourist info.

The management at Residencial Mares are very personable, kind and made me feel truly welcomed. The breakfast is delicious. The location is perfect. Walk across the street for the ferry or easily walk to shops and restaurants. I had a car and the parking was free in a nearby parking lot. I traveled alone and stayed in a single room for 3 nights. It was small and fairly simple but was fine for me. It had traditional charm with pretty tiles. The only thing was that the air conditioner in my room wasn't great. On my last night, it was quite hot & I decided to use the A/C. I'm not sure if it needed maintenance or maybe a new filter. I left early the next morning to catch a flight, so I forgot to mention to them, but I believe it was an isolated incident. I would not hesitate to book with them again. The kindness, the location, the value are incredible. They even made a to-go breakfast sandwich & juice for me, because I would miss the regular breakfast when I left. I loved my stay at Residencial Mares!

Great location, good breakfast, friendly, very good value. A traditional house/ hotel which means some older fittings etc - but really nice, really comfortable, just don’t expect everything to be completely modern. Exactly what we wanted/ expected and loved the roof terrace which was a real bonus.

Customer service was great. Location was excellent as it is directly across from the river. Could walk to everything. What a darling town!

The hotel is well located in the centre of the downtown area facing the canal. My room was comfortable; however, it was pretty small—the same thing as the bathroom. If you plan to stay here, bring your shampoo and conditioner, as none is provided. The hotel does not have elevators, so be ready to go upstairs with your luggage, or you may ask for assistance. I would recommend this hotel if you’re looking for the convenience of location and a price range.

The staff is friendly and very helpful! Thumbs up for a simple yet generous breakfast. The room is basic yet the bed is very comfortable! Super clean the place. It is also near bus station and train station and right in front of the ferry station. I highly recommend the hotel :)

This is a great location on the riverfront. The ferry to get to Tavira Island (beach) is literally right outside and easy walk to restaurants. Located at the quieter end of the downtown core.

We had an amazing time at the Mares hotel. Superb location, extremely friendky and helpful staff. Wonderful breakfast. Great location. Brilliant rooftop terrace. Nothing negative to say. Will definitely stay there again.

Very helpful front desk chap carried our cases up for us. Excellent breakfast, comfortable beds, great location and great prices. Only thing missing which would be handy is a safe in the room.

First time visitors to Tavira. Loved the town! This property is a great base to wander the town and use for further afield day-trips. Not as busy as other towns. The breakfast buffet was wonderful.
