This property is beautiful, especially the rooftop restaurant. The location is great, central to everything. The room is enough for those who are not looking for all the bells and whistles, my need was a place to sleep. The staff was great and accommodating. My only cons are the free parking is a couple a blocks away, getting hot water and maintaining hot water was difficult, and in my room (first floor by the front desk, 101) I found a roach. I believe this isn't the norm.

They have self parking which is good for me

My partner and I stayed here for just one night and it definitely wasn’t enough! Staff were extremely kind and accommodating to us and were able to get us a massage booked last minute. It was amazing and super relaxing after our volcano hike the morning before we arrived at the hotel. We are already counting down to our next trip to Antigua and definitely plan to stay here!

Great location, one block away from Central Park and Cathedral. Has AC and a rooftop restaurant with great view, as well as tours and spa available.

The lady at the concierge desk is so incredibly nice and very very helpful. I had a thousand questions and she answered all of them. The hotel is extremely accommodating. Be aware there are only stairs no elevator so if you have mobility issues. The rooftop Cafe where you can eat breakfast is really stunning with views of all the volcanoes.

The hotel is very quaint and centrally located. The rooms are clean and the staff is very helpful. The complementary breakfast was delicious. They do offer free parking but it's 3 blocks away. I just parked on the street but you do need to pay, munipay, via there website. M-F its $10 but F-S its $20. Overal it's a good hotel. Would recommend.

Both rooms were clean and comfortable. The AC worked great, breakfast was good with quite a variety of meals to pick from, the property itself was well maintained. Had a facial done and it was wonderful. Hotel is walking distance to the market, Starbucks and so many other places!!! Rooftop resturant also had a beautiful view.

The hotel was conveniently close to the center of town, restaurants and shopping. The staff were always helpful and kind. Would highly recommend this property. The only downfall was no pool.

Nos dieron la habitación 103, nivel 1, no tiene iluminación natural ni ventilación, es pequeña, huele mucho a humedad se siente muy fuerte el olor a encerrado, la ducha no tiene puerta, se moja toda el área del baño al usarse. Pedimos cambio de habitación pero el hotel estaba lleno…el olor al desinfectante que usan en el baño se siente muy fuerte. Probablemente todos los olores se sientan más porque no hay ventilación. La ubicación si es buena y favorece que brinden como servicio el parqueo.

Cleanest place I’ve stayed in a long time!! Every time we left the room someone was tidying up the halls or lobby. Awesome breakfast and nice cold AC

The room was extremely musty. I am pretty sure there is mold in the hotel. It felt like a health hazard.

Most of the staff wasn’t friendly. Went to have breakfast up in the terrace and the waiter spilled coffee and milk on my hand and didn’t even apologize or offered me napkins to wipe my hand. On the last day I went up stairs to have breakfast by myself and told the waiter I was taking a breakfast back to the room and he really hesitated to give it to me even tho I paid breakfast for 6 people. They were also flies and mosquitoes in the room.

The included breakfast was really good, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only bad thing is that the room was very small, not very clean. The closet had dust and the smell was not pleasant. I have allergies to animals and they allow mascots which Im okay with but they should do a deep cleaning on those rooms where they allow pets. The smell of humid was very hard to tolerate, we notified the front desk on the first day we arrived and they did not offer any help. The second day we asked for help and they offer to move us which was nice but we were only going to stay 3 nights so we decided it was not worth it since it was late already. The hotel is extremely close to everything which was very convenient. It was not quiet, you could hear everything so that was not very good. They have a drive who can take you to the airport which I thought was great. The terrace is beautiful and you can take really good pictures. Overall even though the room was disappointing, the food, the staff and the location made it pleasant. I think I would go back if they offer a cleaner room, one that does not have the smell of humid and pet smell. They should take into consideration that some people are allergic to pet's hair and dust. I think there is also El Carmen suites. This review is for El Carmen Hotel. Also, if you have a chance buy the coffee we did for a very good price and it is really good.

My friend and I stayed here for three nights. Let me start with the positives (there is only one negative, although a big one). The hotel is really gorgeous. The courtyard is beautiful with flowers and plants. The roof-top terrace is a highlight and having breakfast there with the backdrop of volcanoes was magnificent. The staff is very very helpful and polite. The bed is comfortable. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again because of one reason. The bathroom smelled awful. Just absolutely awful. It smelled like sewage in there and just walking in was difficult. We thought it was just our room but even the bathrooms on the first floor (for all the guests) had this aroma of sewage. I even once complained and the receptionist did his best by spraying our bathroom with air freshener, which in a way was good but in the end turned out to be even worse. There seems to be a bigger issue going on which I really hope they address. It is unfortunate that due to this one issue, the place is one I would not recommend unless they do something to really fix the issue. Also, we were there for three nights, so it wasn't like it was just a one day thing. Again, everything else about the hotel was really good. But walking into a space to shower and clean yourself and feeling a gagging reflex is something I cannot forget.

My room looked nothing like the picture on the site. The hotel was tacky and I would never had stayed there had I not payed in advance. They moved me to somewhat of a better room. It was noise in my room as the restaurant was above my room. There was also a funky smell to the room. It was a good location from the center of town. It was too expensive for what it was. I discussed with another guest and she thought the same.

Hotel was dated but clean. You can hear everything going on in the hall from your room so if you’re sensitive to noise bring ear plugs. Staff we awesome and restaurant was good

Ótimo hotel, muito bem localizado e muito confortável. Umas das poucas opções em Antígua com ar condicionado. O quarto é pequeno, mas muito confortável e limpo. O banheiro é espetacular, amplo e com ótimo chuveiro. O café da manhã tem várias opções e uma vista linda no terraço do hotel. Fica próximo à praça, bancos e comércio. Adoramos a estadia!

I was given perhaps the worst room in a hotel that seemed empty. The WiFi was not working in the room and I shared my concerns several times to no avail. The shower drain was clogged and at not getting a response to my WiFi issues I felt the shower drain issue was a lost cause too, so I never said anything. I just unscrewed shower drain to prevent water from overflowing onto bedroom floor. I inquired about the Trek to Acatenango and not only was I provided incorrect information, the add the hotel advertises is misleading. I was never informed that after paying the hotel $400 Quetzales for the trek, the company supervising the tour would request an additional $100 Quetzales to enter Acatenango Volcano Park or that when I arrived at the summit of Acatenango I would need to pay an additional $200 Quetzales to get close to see the active Volcano Fuego erupt. I was also not informed that I would be sleeping in communal tents with other individuals. Very deceiving. Although it is centrally located and one of the most recognized hotels in Antigua, travelers are better off staying else where. In discussions with acquaintances that I made on this trip there are many other wonderful and reasonably priced hotels in Antigua offering exceptional service.

The room was great with A/C as an American I forget how great AC is in some of these countries. The included breakfast might be the best I have anywhere.

The hotel is very well-kept, with good and prompt service, and friendly staff. Checkin was fast and they were able to help us with an early checkin and keep our bags safe while we waited. Breakfast on the rooftop was very nice, both for the food and the view, the place was clean, and the bed was very good. On the negative side, the rooms are extra-small, fitting only the bed with less than a meter on the sides or bottom, the bathroom is also extremely small (no room for even a shower door) and our room’s only window started way above (~2mt height) with no option to open or close the curtains. Overall, it looks like the hotel prioritized having as many rooms as possible, impacting guest comfort, which also gives the corridors a “motel” feel.

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and the outdoor space was beautiful. My bed was very spacious as it took up the entire space of the room. Although the bathroom was updated and clean, it was extremely small. I did however, enjoy my stay very much.

This property is in a great location. The staff was wonderful. The terrace is beautiful. Breakfast was good. We used the hotel to book a tour which we enjoyed. Never felt unsafe. However, we were on the 2nd floor and the terrace was above us. The music, people's conversations, and every chair that moved could be heard inside our rooms. The chairs were particularly loud. The terrace is open from 6 am to 10 pm. Plan to be awakened at 6 am each morning and don't plan on coming back to the room mid day for a quick rest. Our room was also near the stairs so any conversations that took place as someone was going up or down were heard easily in the room. One morning people were having a very loud conversation right outside our door at 6 am! Not sure if it was staff or guests. Maybe first floor would have been better. I'm a light sleeper so this was not ideal for us.

It was one of our better stays. The rate included breakfast located on the rooftop which was very pleasant and the food was good. very good location near the main central park. The room was a little awkward. It had two full beds that were raised on platforms that were so high that they included a step stool to help with getting onto the bed. Shower and hot water was very good. Because of configuration, the room was very tight.

First of I will say the staff here is incredible. The staff is kind and attentive and you cannot beat the hotels location. All the major sites and restaurants are walkable from here. However I would be remiss to not warn future visitors on how thin the walls are. Every morning we were woken up by the voices in the hallway, people’s alarm clocks and hearing people use the restroom. We had to ask to change rooms because we could hear literally everything happening in our neighbors restroom. It was a lesson learned that you get what you pay for. The great staff, rooftop and location made up for it but I wish more reviews shared truly how thin the walls are.

El Carmen Hotel is centrally located to everything you would like to see in Antigua! The rooms are cozy, the A/C is strong and the staff truly care. Everyone is so friendly and hospitable. The views from the rooftop restaurant are stunning and the many options for breakfast are all absolutely delicious. So many options to choose from. My husband & I truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again!

The location is fantastic—you can easily walk anywhere in the city. The rooftop restaurant offers stunning views while dining, and the complimentary breakfast, including vegetarian options, is a great bonus. Lily at the front desk was incredibly friendly and helped me book the Pacaya Volcano tour and a shuttle to Panajachel. Overall, a wonderful stay, and I would definitely return!

Lovely hotel! Room was cozy and comfortable. Staff was really accommodating for a very early checkout. Wasn’t a problem for me, but the room key was pretty bulky (physical key vs a card)

The property is not wheelchair or elderly friendly. I traveled with my 78 year old mother who had knee surgery and cannot go up stairs easily. I had requested the hotel provide a downtstairs room. They said they had no 2 bed rooms only 3 beds available and it would be an additional $30 more a night. Instead of making the exception for an elderly guest they wanted to charge us more money. The rooftop is where meals are served and was told that they could take my mother’s breakfast to the room. I placed the order and it was NEVER delivered. The hotel is not senior citizen friendly. I was disappointed. Stay at a better hotel for the same price. The location is the only good thing. If you have elderly parents you will understand how frustrating this experience was. Shame on this hotel.

The staff was super helpful in securing our transportation to the airport including a 3 am shuttle. It was raining and they offered us umbrellas as we walked out of the hotel. The breakfast was so delicious. Would book a stay here again.

We stayed here before and were very pleased on our first visit. HOWEVER, this time, we were put in a room that was extremely cramped (our friends were also in a very cramped room) with no space to even put our luggage. The staff at the front desk were not helpful and when the people ahead of us registered, they got in without question. We, on the other hand were told to wait and several phone calls were made before we were allowed to even begin the registration process. We had three people in our crowded room and had to beg for the third bath towel, which came only after several phone calls were made. The food was mediocre at best. We will not stay here a third time and the friends we traveled with agreed that they wouldn't stay here again either. They had a lot of problems with excessive noise, which we didn't have because we were tucked back in a closet on the back wall.

The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable, very walkable in the city, and wonderful staff! We booked a romantic dinner at the rooftop restaurant, and it was above and beyond. Wonderful stay overall!

El hotel esta muy cerca al parque y muy conveniente a restaurantes. El desalluno es excelente, y hay mucha variedad. El dormitorio esta en muy buenas condiciones y las camas muy comodas. Recomiendo este hotel, no se van a arepentir. Volveremos!

Location was great, a few blocks from Central Park, the Arco de Santa Catarina, and artisan market. Parking is located a few blocks away.

Such a perfect restaurant. Easy access to all shops and dinning options. The in house restaurant is very delicious also. Staff was always friendly and attentive. Rooms where clean and spacious. Strong WiFi. Will be back soon.

The only thing I didn’t like about the breakfast was that I asked for an extra glass of orange juice and I was told by the waitress that it cost extra , the breakfast was include and delicious , very good taste and portion was good as well , but I didn’t like the charge for a second glass of orange juice

I didnt like the staff, zero empathy, really rude and tough with their service and zero customer service too! They didnt provide me either with my parking ticket:( As well the service at the restaurant was terrible!!!! Coffee was cold, every time you requested napkings coffee or water they delayed like 15 minutes. The place safe and quiet
