The Standard - East Village

I have always stayed here and loved it but this time was different. The hotel was doing last minute construction in their cafe which was extremely loud. Plus, the room we were given was overlooking the hotel trash / storage, which was not ideal. They were very inflexible about late check-out. 30 mins for free and then we had to pay an additional fee in 30-60 min increments.

I’d love to give this place a nicer rating but I feel like they just had poor planning especially since their main focus SHOULD be for customers. We traveled pretty much all day and took a taxi ride from hell just to get to this hotel and have to wait over a half hour to get on the elevator because they decided to let a production company film upstairs. There was a long line of angry customers that just wanted to get to their rooms and all of the elevators were taken by production. This went till 1am which pretty much had you locked in your room if you didn’t want to continually wait to go up and down the elevator. When I mentioned it to one of the staff she just chuckled and said “oh yeah a lot of people are upset about that”. Also our tv didn’t work and the A/C would not get cold. I just feel that if I’m paying that type of money it should have been a better experience. Just go to the standard high line in the west village if you have a choice.

The hotel was adorable. We loved the outdoor garden/Terrace and the staff was amazing and kind. But the whole time we were there the hotel lobby was under construction. The staff was insanely amazing and apologetic and accommodating. But that does not mean it was not an inconvenience and sometimes quite loud. A number of times we had to wait for 10 minutes for an elevator because only one was in service. Also one side of our bed sinked in. We just went with it but did let them know on the way out. It would not prevent us from staying again. But if you are considering the hotel in the near future, I would advise you to check on the construction status first.

Only one elevator was working at one point and I had to wait ten minutes to get down from my room. The hotel room had hair on the floor and wasn’t properly swept.

The bathroom was stylish but the choices that made it look cool made it messy to use. The sink was very small in a large counter, which meant the counter was constantly wet. The shower curtains were made of chain link with minimal coverage by clear shower curtains, so water spread all over the bathroom floor no matter what we did with the showerhead. Usually we skip daily housekeeping to minimize resource use but things got so wet and messy that we had to use it every day. Also, the garden (which we had been looking forward to using) was closed. We decided to pay extra to stay here instead of a more run-of-the-mill chain nearby, but we didn't get anything special out of the experience.

The Standard East Village was the perfect place to stay when we needed to be in SOHO for an event. It was quiet and felt like a true neighborhood spot. The staff were so kind and helpful. The outdoor patio is a great place to unwind after a busy day in the city. What a gem. They also have a wonderful restaurant and bar that is open all day. It has a very cool vibe with delicious choices for all meals or happy hour. The coffee and espresso helped us start our day. The restaurant had indoor and outdoor seating. It was wonderful.

The rooms are very small, but that’s expected in NYC. The staff was absolutely fantastic. They were kind, attentive and very responsive. We asked for ice and they beat us up to our room to deliver. They offer a gym pass to Crunch fitness which is across the street. The gym is huge and offers classes and tons of free weight and cardio options. You’re so close to NYU.

Great hotel. Staff are. Very professional and accommodating. Rooms are small, but well-appointed. Restaurant and bar are excellent.

It was unfortunate that the garden area was closed and scaffolding was up on one side of the building . We were looking forward to enjoying the winter garden . 😕

Very small room, very expensive for what you get. Too heavily scented, so much so we had to ball engineering. Rooms are not well designed, dorm-like. Would not stay again.

Our first room had an overwhelming odor of cleaning fluid. They sent maintenance to open the window and turn on the fan. But the filter in the fan was so dirty, it was not good. They finally changed our room and that one was fine. The second room, however, was very cold, and changing the thermostat did not help. There were no extra blankets in the room. The Cafe was average. They gave my wife in incorrect order. Perhaps if the waiter had written down our order it would have been correct. All in all, we were underwhelmed and will not stay there again.

The employees are always incredibly friendly and helpful, the room is always spotless and comfortable, and the Cafe consistently serves great food and drinks. The location can’t be beat - close to the subway, close to shopping, close to excellent dining.

The hotel and room were nice. The deodorizing scent in the hallways and elevator was overpowering and detracted from my experience.

I upgraded my room but it was disappointing as when you entered there was a terrible moldy odor. I finally noticed where it was coming from and it was from the bed pillows! Ewww. I stored them in the closet and that helped with the stink, but still this was disappointing to say the least plus it doesn't speak well about their cleaning procedures. Yhe front desk people are hit or miss. Not standard service as some are very helpful and polite and some are rude and couldn't care less.

Excellent bar/cafe. Great breakfast and bar bites. All staff was friendly and helpful. Shower black with mildew. Room not user friendly. No place to hang towel when showering. Extremely low lighting. Average value for money.

For the price a King room costs at the Standard Hotel, I was hoping to get a better sized room. The standard King room is very small and cramped (I guess that is New York, but for $400/n I expected more). Also, the room does not come with an iron or ironing board, which was annoying. Resort fee of $30/n seemed not worth what it provided (2 small bottles of water and a gym pass we did not use).

Great location, comfy bed and a good shower. That said — the AC didn’t work and the room was alway around 79 degrees — HOT for an unusually warm fall weekend. Called down to have it serviced and the tech never made it to our room. Disappointed for the rate charged.

The staff was lovely. The room was beyond small. I kept hitting my shin on the bed as I tried to walk around. No coffee maker, no iron in room. But staff was quick to bring one up. The place is a bit rundown & needs a refresh. But loved the homey feel.

Room was clean, bright and comfortable. However, we had difficulty sleeping as we faced the street and it was very noisy with people late into the night. Maybe because we were only 4 floors up but it was difficult to sleep.

Asked for an upper floor so I would have a view, got a room with a view!

FABULOUS staff. Wonderful location. Corner room was clean and well appointed but the bathtub was weird / needs updating.

Very small boutique hotel. No real lobby or waiting area. Front desk folks seem preoccupied. Room is small, but nicely decorated. No in room coffee really was a bummer. Room design of the X01 rooms are very strange and cramped. Hard to open and close drapes. Giant TV on a stand blocks the window view. The corner of the bed frame juts out, causing guests to bang their legs constantly. It’s an actual hazard.

Upon check in, reception explained that the hotel was going through a software migration, and the keys for each room were not functioning but they would work later. For now they would walk us to room 906. 3 hours later, while out for the evening someone called to say our things were in room 1003 and needed to be moved into 906. I said that’s impossible. Our belongings were left in 906 where you walked us. They pushed again no they are in 1003. I explained unless you moved them they are not. “You don’t remember correctly because I walked you?” I said unless you are a 6 foot man no you didn’t. The woman said ok. Upon returning to our room at 2:00 AM, another persons belongings were in our room. This hotel allows at least hotel employees access to your room without your approval. Additionally, it certainly seemed like they allowed access to another guest to our room without our approval. That guests Clothes were obviously changed out of on chair and bags set aside. With no explanation and obvious continued confusion regarding what happened, we walked away thinking no one was willing to be honest. Therefore, trust is not something I’d use to explain this hotel or staff.

The staff were so pleasant, polite, and genuinely helpful. Jack and Erika (Erica, Ericka, Erykah…. So sorry I don’t know the spelling) went out of their way to be hospitable. Super appreciate them both!

Hotel staff would not honour the hotels.com gold status benefits. No free room upgrade and would only charge us for a late checkout . We booked this hotel in part because it advertised that they give gold status benefits, which don’t . Staff was incredibly rude and dismissive about this. Our room was tiny and the bed was the smallest queen I’ve ever seen. The hvac in the hotel is awful and the air is really dry and uncomfortable. Location is great but I would never stay here again

Conveniently located, amazing staff, and great views. Stayed for 3 nights in a corner room facing Midtown. Got in before our check-in time, but the hotel has a very organized bag drop-off system, so we were able explore for a couple of hours before check-in. Rooms are spacious and modern. Staff is incredibly friendly and patient. On the occasions I called the desk to have something sent up to the room, it was there within 5-10 mins. Location puts East Village, Greenwich Village, SoHo, and NoHo at your fingertips. Not too far away from some Subway stations to get you to Midtown either. 10/10 would stay again.

When I arrived, I asked to upgrade. They said I could for $50/night. I was there with my sister so we told them that would be great to have more room and asked if they had any rooms available with two queens instead of our booked king. They said yes. We arrived in the room, and the space was smaller than it would've been in the king room. I wish they had told me that but decided it was fine. We got all unpacked but kept finding baby flies everywhere...we killed 6 and when I went to take a shower, there was a 7th that came out of my folded towel. At that point, we needed a new room. I called down and was met with extreme hostility, where they told me since I had entered the room that I would still have to pay for the $50 upgrade fee for the night. I questioned that and she finally gave in, but it was clear she thought I was trying to just get a bigger room. We were met with hostility to move our bags, they wouldn't leave until we found our e-keys from the previous room (don't those just get disabled?) and we were put into a room that had a door that led to another guest room. Normally that would have a lock on our side and their side, but this was just a locked door...nothing to keep the other person from coming if if they could open it from their side. We inquired about this and they made it very clear that they were annoyed we would ask. We were told only a security guard could open it. While we were still uncomfortable, we had been shamed so much that we just stayed.

This is my go- to hotel in NYC. The employees are always helpful and efficient. In a time where many hotels have cut back on housekeeping, it feels great to come back to my room after a busy day to find my room clean and neat. The main restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food is fantastic!

We had an employee enter our room unannounced at 8 AM. When we brought this up with staff that morning we were informed that "it would be looked into and they would get back to us." No one got back to us. Great location but imagine you can probably find a hotel in NYC where staff doesn't walk into your room unannounced and does not apologize.

What a great place! The location is great, walking distance or just a bus ride away. The staff is super nice. Our room had an amazing view. And the bed…wow, we almost were as happy to stay in bed as to go out! Wouldn’t change a thing. First chance we get, we’ll be back.

Arrived late at night and checked out early in the morning. So, didn’t get to enjoy the property. However, the room was clean and tidy although the size of the room was rather small and no water bottles provided. The location was good and so was the service.

The Standard East Village is a great hotel in a great location. The neighborhood is not in a busy, central part of NYC but is in a much quieter part of town that is in walking distance of Washington Square and a subway station. The hotel staff is amazing and so attentive. I always love staying at this hotel

Great place to stay in East village. Though rooms are small they are very comfortable & clean. Friendly staff. Good restaurants nearby.

This is a perfect place if you plan to drop your kids if at NYU. It’s close to the school and third north dormitory, all within walking distance. To top it off close to the metro and very clean and polite staff.

The rates were reasonable and the view from my room was incredible. I was on the 14th floor and had a breathtaking NYC view. I had met some friends and one person had some dietary issues and the kitchen went out of their way to accommodate his needs. Very cool vibe, great service and great views!!

Hotel is in a great location close to lots of dining options. The hotel staff are very friendly. The rooms are tiny. Like so tiny there was no room to put the suitcase. Other than that, it was fine. Nice view. The restaurant onsite was disappointing. We first sat at a table that had water dripping onto one of the seats. Then we moved and got a terrible waiter who chastised me for confusing him by not letting him finish getting another order before I started telling him what I wanted (not quite what happened). He went on for about a minute admonishing me, which I felt was very inappropriate. Then he spilled my daughter's coffee on her and didn't even take it off of the bill. He sucked and my stomach hurt all day from the meal. We ate there once more, just because it was convenient and the new waiter could not have been less interested or attentive.

Very pleasant stay, Jr suite was perfect for toddler and 2 adults, nice city view and quiet. Easy walk to family nearby and train only a few blocks away. Brunch in garden very colorful and tasty.

Great service at the front desk- everyone was very helpful and friendly. Excellent East village location. Also, the rooms are very quiet, which is unusual in NYC. Lots of windows with a nice view of the sunset. Fun and convenient bistro bar in hotel with delicious cocktails. One of our best stays in NYC and we’ve stayed in a lot of places!

We liked that it’s not surrounded by big box stores but when you stay here - support local, experience local. The neighborhood is full of flavor, character, grit, charm and creativity. We’ll be back. The staff was awesome, and the food and drinks were excellent.
