Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham North Charleston SC

Overall, it was a good stay, except the pictures that were on Hotels.com did not look like the place we got. It was like the pictures were Photoshop to look so much nicer and more spacious. They have a lot of people that rent monthly and live there, and there was dog feces everywhere on the walkways, and it smelled bad from that so you had to watch where you stepped. It offers a full kitchen, but had no pots and pans or dishes of any kind. So here I am on vacation from Maine and I had to go buy stuff just so I could cook meals and that was one of the main reasons I got a place like that is to have the kitchen to be able to cook and not spend so much money eating out. on Hotels.com nowhere does it state that the property would charge five dollars a night for a hotel fee I guess they call it so it was 35 more dollars than anticipated which isnt a huge price jump, but it would’ve been nice to know when budgeting for a vacation.

Pool was not operational

Pool was green. counters filthy, toilet leaked, gross hair in tub drain. Maintenance had to come. Positive- the fridge kept things cold. Sorry- but keep driving you will thank me.

Staff was patient and nice. What I didn't like is in the middle of the night, you keep hearing this loud truck.... Then you look out the window, and its a tow truck!!!! Sleep is interrupted.. However, I understand that its for those that doesn't have a parking pass. But that part isn't peaceful at all. Once the tow truck is done, maybe 2-6 cars later, then you can get the sleep you deserve.

Extremely limited parking as there are broken down cars everywhere. Others don't display a parking permit and you are forced to park at a neigboring Lowes. Management is never available on site and don't return calls. Pool closed by order of the State. The list is endless. Employees are obviously aware of the shortcomings and simply say that you need to speak with mgmt.Only positive was the breakfast and the kind woman that sets it up each morning. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

If the room was as pictured on the website with all amenities available then this would have been the review of the century. The hotel is used as a short term rental space for transient people and workers. The police drive through the area multiple times a day. My room smelled of cigarette smoke as we entered, maintenance arrived twice the first day we were there for unknown cleaning after we already checked in. I had to return my dirty towels before I could get new ones. The kitchen was fully stocked with appliances, but there were no utensils, plates, cups or pots and pans to be seen. The pool was out of order the entire time of our 5 day stay. Breakfast consisted of mini pancakes in a plastic bag like my kids got from their school during the pandemic and watered down juice. No coffee was available for breakfast. There are still masking required stickers on the main entrance marked 2020. The staff sat around and bickered all day, but did nothing to address the concerns of the people staying at the hotel. If I was a regional manager of this property I would be ashamed to have it listed under my name.

First, they charged me more than what Hotels.com said I would be charged. Then, when we opened the couch bed, there were no sheets on it or in any of the closets. When I went to put one the the sheets from my bed on it, I noticed mouse poop on it. I called the main office and they moved us to the penthouse. The penthouse looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. The next afternoon I tried taking a shower in the downstairs bathroom and there was no hot water. I called the main office and they said they would send someone up, they never did. And the cherry on top was that the pool was unusable. It was very very green, which when you have kids, its a big deal.

Half of the dryers in the laundry room were broken. I felt that the property and room didn't look like it did on the internet. The parking lot had trash all over. The outside of the building we stayed in was filthy. There were no dishes in the kitchen in the room. The shower dripped water from the ceiling. The one TV didn't have a remote.

Coffee supplies, but no coffee maker. Dumpster was overflowing. Kitchenette with stove and frg, but no eating utinsels or plates. Land line to office malfunctioned.

This hotel has great potential but is currently in disrepair and lacking in cleanliness. Going into Memorial Day weekemd the pool was completely green and not useable. The rooms needed a very thorough cleaning. While there was a stove, microwave and refrigerator, there was nothing like dishes or utensils to use. A very disappointing experiemce!

This property is filthy. Dead bugs, hair and dirt everywhere. Run down and not at all as advertised. Staff is not helpful. There is a very very low standard of care at this property. Weekly/monthly tenants. Cops were called due to a fight while I was there. Broken TV and could see outside around my door to my room. It was awful. Towels had blue lines running through like cleaning rags. Felt unsafe. Charging over 100 a night! Couldn’t believe Expedia is renting rooms at this property at that rate.

Do not stay here. The rooms are dirty and we found human hair on the beds.

The hotel was not just dirty it was filthy and unsafe. Blood spots on mirror, exposed wiring, sticky floors , rusted metal door stoppers, reeked of cigarette smoke , brown towels , bedding had red and pink and brown stains.

We left within a half hour, the AC didn’t work, there were roaches, and the facility was filthy. They had a sign up stating that you had to pay a premium if you live nearby, indicating there is illegal activity like drug usage or prostitution happening on site.

It was so filthy and honestly disgusting, we immediately left! There was hair all over the bathroom floor and in the towels folded up for use, a toothpick on the toilet paper holder, dead bugs on the window seal and floors. It is not a place I would ever give another chance! It was awful and the property is now refusing refund! For reasons above a refund should be given no matter the booking. I booked expecting to have a clean room to stay in and that was not the case. I will provide pictures of everything stated.

The room was not up to date. The sheets were dirty. The floors were dirty and it wasn’t properly sanitary.

When I get there I found a roaches and the condition of the room is very bad. I want my refund for this hotel

Room had a pull out couch that was extremely filthy stains all over. When I opened the bed the mattress had red stains as well as other stains all over it. The kitchen was missing pieces of the floor, no trash bags or even garbage can. Sink was filthy.

Staff was nice. First room - ceiling falling down, floor coming up , foul smell and broken TV. Second room wasn’t in as bad disrepair but still dirty , dirty sheets as well. Steps rotting on the outside of room. Bed was comfortable.

the HVAC was very loud. In auto mode it would constantly switch from heat to cooling and then back to heat. WIFI needs upgrade to better bandwidth, and even the TV reception was bad, channels were limited and not anymore up to what the industry standard, as was the WIFI. Otherwise the suite was nice, good bed/mattress.

Bed was comfortable. All amenities of a house included.

The room was supposedly newly renovated according to the gentleman that checked us in. We were the first to stay in it. However, it wasn’t all that nice. The lighting was terrible. The shower never got warm. Only the sinks had hot water. The knob on the shower would come off. It was a rather small room as well so close corners trying get around the side of the double beds. A plus was the bed slept well and it was decently clean.

The room smelled of smoke, although it is a smoke free facility. The electrical outlet was missing the cover. A couple of stains on the sheets. Next to the interstate. Bathtub had a big gouge in it. The curtain was pinned to the wall.

We had issues with noise and being woken up. The propery manager thought it was us and banged on our door at 11:30P waking us up. This made us feel unsafe. We chose this place because it was close to the airport. The room was clean and you could tell it had been updated, but the place has some age to it.

The room itself was nice and spacious, property is near Charleston International Airport and Charleston Airforce Base, so the noise from that cant be helped, though we had no other noise issues. Overall it was a pleasant checkin process the free continental breakfast was passuble, could have been a better variety of offerings but overall it served its pourpose. My only real issue while the rooms are overall clean(no bugs moldy smells things of that nature) the floors could use a through steam cleaning every once in a while my socks were completely black on the bottom from walking around.

If a fair priced convenient location is your priority then this place will meet your needs. Clean but not spotless, older location that has been refreshed but could do with a complete rehab. Polite and diligent staff that will do everything they can to make your stay a good one. Suggest that you ask for an upper level unit as the lower units have thin ceilings and the people upstairs will make a lot of noise no matter how careful they are.

The smell of smoke and the air freshener up to try and cover it up was very strong when you first walk in the room

Let's start, I called the day prior to confirm arrival the phone was answered and immediately placed on hold for 28 minutes by the manager. -This property is located in a dark back alley area with broken down cars with flat tires along the main driveway. -There was wood rot and damage to the wood stairs, which felt very unsafe. -The guest room smelled musty and there were bugs in the bedroom area. Went back to the desk to cancel our stay and moved to another hotel 30 minutes away. While trying to get a refund from our Travelocity booked room the manager was rude and would not honor the request from Travelocity to refund the room rate. Travelocity was writing with us to offer a complete refund, only with the approval from the property. The manager was belittling the customer service agent on the phone and told her to do her job and not call back to her hotel.

I want to take the time and let the corporate office knownthat Crystal the properity manager is top notch. She went above and beyond every day to assist and make sure my stay was amazing. See its leadership skills like this that are a rare find. If i could convience here to swithch professions inwould hire herbin a heartbeat. So with that being said. Crystal if no body else acknowledges just how much you do for we the customers. I DO. Thank you

Check in clerk was extra nice

I checked out 15 minutes after I checked in. I spoke with the manager Crystal who confirmed she would give me a refund. Expedia emailed me a day later stating they couldn’t get a hold of her and when they did, she refused the refund. I was charged for four nights.

Friendly staff

We had to beg for basic necessities like towels and toilet paper. The TV did not work the whole stay, after several calls to desk, was told someone would come to check it out and never did. Definitely will never stay in anything Hawthorne or Wyndham again.

Don't stay here as it is terrible I I went to the lobby three times stating we had only two hand towel and wash clothes, no trash bags or trash cans. First time I was told they would send soneone over, a day later nothing. Stopped again, clerk was smoking he ran in but never came to the desk. Third time, clerk stated you have to bring used towels to desk to receive clean ones. That also included any kitchen items which to be pre arranged. Do not stay here. Expedia photos are a fake representation of what your stay will be like.. There prior communication or follow after we checked in

The staff was friendly, the women there are as pretty as they are sweet. Will stay again on my next visit to town

When checking in was ignored while they continued cussing about a situation that happened night before. Room was dirty and smelled. Have stayed at other Hawthorn’s and never endured this. Would not stay again!

Please heed the reviews when considering this property. It's location is convenient for airport travelers but does not offer an airport shuttle. The pictures online are not an accurate representation of the current state of the property. Non-smoking room that smelled of smoke, many items in the room needed repair (ex: nail strips protruding through carpet on stairs, kitchen table broken and very unstable, plaster missing on ceiling), suite not clean (ex: floors dirty, carpet needed vacuuming, dirty washcloth still hanging in shower from previous guest, food residue on night stand, hair on door in bathroom and on room phone, stains on sheets and pillows). Looks like it was once a nice property that has fallen into disrepair.

The photos on the website must be photoshopped. The hotel is in a motel setting. The property has cars parked in the lot that do not have plates on them, that have flat tires, and some have car covers. This property looks like it is designed for department of social services placement for long term stay for people who don’t have a place to live. This looks more like a low income expressed stay motel rather than a hotel. People had BBQ grills outside of their units, people were walking around with laundry baskets. Upon entry to my room on the third floor the outside steps had chicken bones on them. The bathrooms toilets were not properly cleaned. The towels may have been clean but had many stains on them. The hotel offers free breakfast during your stay. In the check in area behind the desk next to the printer there was dirty dishes, plates, silverware, pots and pans that needed to be washed just sitting in the check in area next to the printer. I arrived there at 10pm if those dishes were from breakfast what were they doing sitting in the office? Very unsanitary. I traveled 13 hours by car to SC to arrive to a place like this. Long story short, my family and i did not even stay! We couldn’t! Best part of the hotel was the property manager Krystal. She is very professional, she was very accommodating, and super understanding of my feelings of the property and the room. She tried her best to accommodate us even let us see a different room! I rate the staff a 10! property, 0.

There is no way this hotel is 3.5 stars. Very misrepresented. Staff were nice and room was clean, but it was a sketchy area, police were called in people staying there, and kids pulled an alarm outside our room at 4am. There were no hooks to hang towels on, so we had to hang them on doorknobs. No housekeeping the whole time we were there (three nights). Do not stay here.

The 1st room was leaking from ceiling. The 2nd room was still dirty. The 3rd room wasn’t bad except the decaying walls and doors. A strange man walked up to my car window late at night and stared at me.

This hotel looks unsafe, people hanging out everywhere with unsolicited behavior. Front staff is very untrustworthy. Checked in and checked out next 10 mins! Worst hotel stay ever!! Don’t use this property!

Do not recommend staying here- nice staff at front desk but clearly a property that is home to people, not a hotel. Thought it would be okay as it has Wyndham- but nope didn’t make it past the pile of laundry outside the door that had been there for days according to the neighbor—-

The room was great but the facility outside was old with wear and tear, the dining small and barely nothing to eat. The breakfast without eggs and not cereal. They also charged me twice and is been over 2 weeks and not refund yet.

The room was dirt. The shower curtain was too short and it was hard to keep water from going out of shower on floor. The grounds were dirty. The main office and sitting area was cluttered, but the breakfast food was pretty good. Staff was nice.

Terrible, noisy, dirty, its listed as a hotel but it was definitely not a hotel. It was more like crappy stuido apartments with rotting walls and a roach problem. I had to ask for new bedding because the sheets were dirty (not just dingy from age as the front desk suggested but actual crumbs and dirt) and the blanket had hard white stains on it. Then i had to make my own bed with the linens i was given. Breakfast was terrible and they didn't even have salt and pepper for the terribly bland eggs.

Their breakfast was a scam . The lobby is not clean , dog pop is everywhere between the building. The room is not clean and smelled. Not plate or cookware in the kitchenette. Horrible place

Very clean and nice. Breakfast was ok waffles were good but the eggs were dry and the potatoes were raw. But my stay we were very pleàsed.

Looked like a handy man did paint and floor work. There were only 2 small towels and 2 wash towels in the room. There were no rugs in the bath/shower area nor at vanities. Lay out of room was terrible. They had a rollaway type couch in the middle of the room. Not comfortable. I was told there would be eggs, bacon For breakfeast. No eggs
