Hampton Inn & Suites Childress

Breakfast bar totally unattended on the Sunday morning I was there. Trash, cans, overflowing, hot tub did not work whole time I was at hotel.

The pool hasn’t been working for years. Call ahead for that but at this time they are saying it is the water shortage and I can understand that but the Holiday inn’s pool is up

Parking is great

Stayed overnight as a part of a bigger trip. Overall the hotel is nice, safe and convenient in location. I only scored it a 3 as part of the reason for booking this location was for the indoor pool (I have younger kids traveling) and after traveling for 8+ hrs telling them they can swim when we get to the hotel only to find out the pool was not open was a huge let down.

Not in a hurry so I went for the slightly more expensive more features option in Childress. Staff was nice, room was clean, beds were comfortable——but TV service was acting up (not their fault—Direct TV), hot tub was out of service, treadmill didn’t work and at breakfast all the coffee was cold (tried three different pots). A staff member did warm my coffee in the kitchen microwave (thanks).

The hotel was I. Horrible shape. No breakfast available because the fridge supposedly broke, no coffee, no juice, ice machines broken, pool and hot tub closed, dirty bathroom and hallways and rude staff who obviously don’t care.

The ice and vending machine were both broken. For breakfast, both the juice machine and the waffle machine were broken. I was looking forward to making some tea, but the "hot" water was only luke warm. The rooms themselves were comfortable, but nothing special. We would probably look into other lodging options next time we are driving through from Houston.

Pool was closed, water damage in the bathroom. Breakfast was not good.

Indoor pool was closed. Juice machine at breakfast was unavailable. Other than that the hotel was great.

The parking is not conducive for UHAULS pulling a car. We pulled into their back parking lot as it shows there are two entrances to find out there is a dead end. It took us and a friendly hotel guest over 30 minutes to back up the UHUAL and car, which ultimately caused damage to our vehicle. We had to park in the Walmart parking lot and lugged our suitcases across a heavily traveled road. In addition, our only option for dining was gas station pizza. Our room’s bathroom had mold on the wall and management did nothing for us. Bad experience all together.

Check in was simple and fast! The carpets through the whole hotel were stained and dirty looking. When we got off the elevator for the third floor, it smelled stale and had an odor we couldn't place. When we got to our room, it smelled like stale urine. The carpets were gross. We were trying to overlook the issues. When we opened the fridge to store a few things, the nasty yellow liquids in there were just too much for us. We went back down to the front desk and she easily switched our room to one on the second floor. Carpets were more presentable and there was no odor here. However, we were uncomfortable showering because of the mold in the shower/tub area. Every time you flushed the toilet, the floor under you shook horribly. Check out was quick and easy. Overall not the quality or experience we are used to with Hampton Inn establishments.

Room was not vacuumed stuff all over floor and bathroom dirty, wondered about sheets. No soap in bathroom got from desk. Check in staff were good and doing best they could with internet down and unable to make keys. Also bathroom in poor shape, toilet seat completely loose, tightened it myself so it could be used. and floor grout in very poor shape.

Childress is a small town yet has decent amenities; however, this Hampton Inn room was sub par. The a/c leaked (?) condensation on the carpet in a large area and was not clean. The bathroom had minimal towels (2 vs 3 for 2 people) & rough feel of towels revealed age. The shower was moldy along most of the caulked lines…NOT a small amount of mold in the corner but along each edge—yuck! Are they short of staff like so many places or cleaner or just need a re-do if carrying the Hilton name?

We checked in late at night and the room was so filthy One bed the sheets were dirty. Hair all over sink n tub...furniture filthy with dust I couldn't believe it. I took pics!!

It was obvious the Hampton Inn was once very nice but now needs some work. Hall had carpet that was bleached in spots, toilet had a big crack that was leaking brown water and mildew in bath tub.

Dirty. Elevator floor looked like it had never been cleaned. Poorly maintained. Needs a new manager that actually cares about the property. Room was dirty. Hair in shower. So many areas with thick coat of dust. Breakfast greatly lacking. No milk for cereal, no fruit of any kind, no yogurt, no water. Girl running it was sweet. Front desk folks were nice but when checking out, girl was vaping. Tried to hide it but it was obvious. Never again.

The hotel was okay, especially for the location and purpose. The shower had mildew growing in it and could use a heavy cleaning and there was a dead roach under the bathroom sink. The mattress and bedding had seen better days.

This is a dated hotel. It was not very clean, however there were no bugs.

Tub/shower looked clean enough but there was a slight moldy smell. Overall about what I expected for an overnight for a longer roadtrip. Childress doesn't have a lot going for it but this Hampton Inn is probably the best place to stay. Walmart next door was convenient, too.

People were friendly. Rooms were clean. It smelled clean as well.

Well worth paying the extra to be in a proper hotel set back from the constant 18-wheeler traffic on a busy road day and night. Indifferent attitude of reception staff the only downer - a simple smile and hello would make such a better first impression. Room was fine once the folks upstairs stopped stomping around.

The room was large and comfortable with plenty of room for my wheelchair.

Room 105 king bed was uncomfortable and made noises every time you move. Hotel was very noisy with guests slamming doors at 4:30am. Staff were nice and hotel was clean. But bed made this hotel be on our “will not visit again” list

The bed was good and the room was clean. But it’s the little things that make a difference. Our original king room had an electrical problem so we had to move to a room with 2 queen beds. The bathroom exhaust fan was on the same switch as the light so it was extremely noisy to use that room. Finally, the tv was failing and was almost unwatchable. We’ll think twice about staying there again.

This location overall seemed nice, however for the price it would be nice to have better coffee maker in the room. The shower stall was crumbling and rusted

Comfortable and spacious

Nice big room, liked the different areas to the room. Nice and clean and great bed! Very quiet considering we were near a Pilot Gas store…didn’t hear a thing. Only negative, need fuller pillows!

The bed was broken in the middle so my husband and I kept rolling to the middle of the bed. The bed was also really hard so we didn’t get much sleep. The room was also super humid and moist feeling. Not the best.

The building was set back from the highway noise which is great BUT there is Truck depot in front with occasional big rig noise & the walls/floors are thin so you can hear the neighbors walking and moving around. The hotel was clear, staff friendly, and the breakfast was good.

We checked in at 9pm, after driving for 12 hours and were exhausted. We got to our room and it smelled like pet urine, and the bed had about a 4” sag in the center of it. Within minutes of setting our stuff down, there were kids running, stomping, and screaming down the hallway. Erica, at the front desk (who was handling everything on her own, with no help), was kind enough to move us to a different room. She called someone for help, but the person on the other end of the phone just questioned why she needed help, and wouldn’t actually come help her. We got to our new room, and the bathroom was gross. Hair all over the tub/bathroom floor. The nightstand was sticky, and the floor clearly hadn’t been vacuumed. The breakfast options were pretty limited but we also didn’t get downstairs until 9am, so that could have just been a timing thing.

Their computers were down but they were able to roll with it. There was one instance where I would’ve liked the staff to go above and beyond and help me but she just blinked blankly, so I walked away, but this is an easy stop along your way.

The front desk worker was great with helping switch my room around to accommodate my disabilities

I had a problem with being bumped years ago from a Hampton because they were overbooked. I had booked over a month ahead of time. I have not had problems since then until our latest stay. My husband, in-laws, & I booked an accessible room with 2 queen beds for 1 night. We just needed a clean, comfortable place to sleep & to shower that had a handicap accessible bathroom. We knew we would be arriving late, so I called earlier in the day to let them know our estimated time of arrival & was assured all was good. When we checked in, the young lady at the desk was very welcoming & efficient. She gave me the key & told me that my room with a king bed was just down the hall. When I explained that I was supposed to have two queens with an accessible room, she started looking & discovered that because they were overbooked, we had been bumped to a different type of room, then said that I should have received a phone call from the manager earlier that day about it. I did not receive a phone call. There were no other rooms to switch to. It was that room or nothing & it was 11:00 in Childress, Texas. We tried, but there was no way that my husband or FIL could sleep on a sofa bed with their backs & the toilet was so short that there was no way my FIL could use it by himself. My in-laws chose to drive home another 2 hours in the middle of the night instead of staying for us to enjoy breakfast together in the morning before parting ways because we were bumped from an accessible room.

Woman that initially helped us was quite rude and unprofessional. The rest were fine. They said they had been having trouble with her. FIX IT. The bed was too still and the pillows are tiney

HAMPTON INN, Childress, Texas Terrible! We got NO rest. People were playing/ partying in the rooms directly above ours ALL NIGHT LONG. I called the front desk 4 times to get it resolved, The last time being about 3am. They couldn't resolve the problem. All night long, our ceiling and walls were shaking due to foot stomping, heavy running/ walking, jumping, etc, from the tenants above us. I nearly called the police. Turns out some mom took her kids to this hotel for a birthday party because she knew they would bother their neighbors. So her choice with out of control kids prevented us from getting any sleep. Was also told by the front desk that they could not get ahold of their management to help resolve the problem. I want a refund for the room, but Hotels.com has NO phone number to call to make the complaint. Not a good experience. And by the way, the mom got her own room while her minor children were left unsupervised in their own room above ours. NOT RIGHT.

Booked a reservation and when showed up they couldn’t check me in, said internet was out . Even though already paid. They said couldn’t do anything about it and had to go two towns over to find a hotel even though I had had a reservation for this hotel. Was told they don’t know what will happen and how their manager has been in and out so don’t even know who to call to see how to fix issue . Was just left to leave and hear from them later

Great service! Clean rooms, complimentary coffee and hot full breakfast. Friendly staff.

The front desk staff were helpfully, friendly and respectful. The room could use some maintenance as the caulking and the tiles are coming loose. I requested a late check out for 1pm and standard check out is at noon however the cleaning staff decided to pound on the door at 9:45am like they where police serving a search warrant.

good location, between a walmart and a truck stop but still very quiet, walk to stoers and fast food places. short drive to restaraunts. good free breakfast

Convenient but quiet!

This was an overnight stay on our way to another destination. The hotel was easy to find in a good location, with a few food options within walking distance. The foyer and outside of the hotel were lovely. The staff friendly and inviting. The room was well sized and comfortable however probably requires some updating. However we were happy to overlook this because of the friendly nature and staff and surrounding area.

The breakfast was horrible. The Clerk said something about truck drivers??? but the coffee was cold & limited, the cereal was missing, NO hot food, limited baked goods, there was very little to eat! The breakfast attendant was on her phone and did not refill anything!

Room was larger than usual. Oven not working so no hot breakfast. Otherwise it was a great stopover on our road trip from Albuquerque to Dallas

I mistakenly reserved rooms at this hotel thinking it was the one next to it. The property was okay. It was warm, clean and convenient. However, it seemed aged and neglected. We visited twice in a week on a round trip. The freezer was out and the continental breakfast was limited to packaged goods and a microwave. The wifi worked but there was no internet connection. The check-in staff was ok but even absent when we checked out. I regret that I had not gone next door.

The continental breakfast was very good, especially the waffles. The area was always clean and the sitting area was relaxing. I liked the big screen TV. Thank you

Unfortunately the freezer was broken and they didn’t serve much breakfast. They apologized but they could have offered donuts or muffins instead. Alas disappointing attempt to provide complementary breakfast.

Enjoyed our stay. Only fault i would give them is the breakfast food was gone when I went for breakfast. I waited, but it did not get refilled for quite a while. Also, the coffee was not very good.

The bathroom was not clean. The shower floor was dirty, the shower head was awful, the bathroom walls were dirty, the sink was dirty. The breakfast was crummy...coffee not hot, no pastries, no hard boiled eggs. Did not get a receipt when checking out...said I had to get it from Hotels.com which has never happened in 25 years of using hotels.com
