The Alexander Pope Hotel

We had a wonderful stay while visiting our son at St Mary’s. Quaint hotel with lots of character and great service. All employees were very personable and we really enjoyed the onsite restaurant/pub.

Free parking friendly staff nice room and breakfast

This is a really great hotel right in centre of Twickenham. Very comfortable and modern rooms. Friendly staff and good on-site restaurant. Plenty of off street parking.

This is the second stay 2 night for this Twickenham hotel, central to town and just a short taxi or bus ride up to the rugby. This was a much improved stay, in a roomy superior double with great features. The pub downstairs serves a lovely Sunday roast and great food on other days with an extensive a la carte breakfast offering. The staff here are attentive and friendly. Free parking in the basement is a plus. Just a couple of improvements needed or to bear in mind. The pub/bar is not brilliant for sports, only 2 tv’s and they prioritised the football over premiership rugby on our stay, unusual for a Twickenham located venue. And our shower head was held up with a cable tie, not to be expected in a hotel charging upwards to £200 per night. Other than that, a perfect stay for before and after the rugby with quality food and drink on tap. We will be back.

Stayed a few times cant fault it free parking a bonus

We came to visit our daughter who is studying abroad . This hotel was amazing !!!! The staff, room , bar and food we Fantastic!! I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone!!! Thank you for your hospitality!!! 😊

Great room, very quiet location and safe car park for an overnight stay

The hotel is comfortable, although pricey and a bit noisy as it is on a main road and there is some traffic of emergency vehicles. This hotel does NOT have laundry facilities - contrary to information on the website.

A regular stay here perfectly located a short taxi ride to the rugby Stoop or Twickenham. Delayed check in with staff unavailable on arrival. Comfy and spotless double bed room, with nice amenities. Staff friendly and helpful. Free convenient parking. We visited the pub restaurant a few times and despite letting staff know of a dairy allergy, they run out of dairy free milk the next day before a planned breakfast. The allergy menu is a complicated folder which would benefit from upgrading to a useable menu for all. Other than that, late check out was a bonus, Sunday roast was perfect, restaurant dining service was great. Other than the minor faults, this still appears to be the best hotel in Twickenham for rugby visits :)

Great location. Easy walk to train station and Twickenham stadium. Lots of parking, good menu and bar. Nice outdoor seating area. Lots of nearby food and drink options.

Clean room but my room was above the restaurant toilets and so you could hear the hand dryer going off.

We recently stayed here for my son's wedding. It was a busy weekend for us. My buffet continental breakfast consisted of apples or oranges, not fruit one usually expects to put on cereals! And pastries. No toast unless I paid extra. My coffee was also extra. Saturday morning was busy as the wedding was early. We left our room in chaos and placed their "twee" sign meaning "Do NOT disturb" on the door. We came back to discover not only had housekeeping ignored this and made up the room anyway, but this big block sign had got in the way of our door closing properly. My passport and other valuables were right there! Also, housekeeping had made up the room, but obviously decided I had had my allocation of coffee as that was not refilled. I had "lost" 3 coffee pods trying to work the machine out!! Saturday evening before bed we decided to watch TV. But, there was no way to get it to work and no connection on our room phone to call the front desk. The wifi was so weak that the phone must have been using our data, and as we had forgotten to switch data roaming off, and not realised their was not working, it will cost us a fortune. The shower controls are a little weird and I ended up flooding the room as the housekeeping had left the spray part of the shower facing the room and not the inside! When I thought I had turned off the rain shower, it switched to the hand held nozzle. At breakfast I was offered a refill of coffee while I still had half a cup. I was still charged for 2

Easy to check in staff were helpful and friendly,the room was clean and comfortable and the bar/restaurant was busy and quite popular with a pleasant atmosphere

The hotel is in an excellent position for transport connections if you do not want to drive in London, bus outside, train (Strawberry Hill) 7 min walk. It is in excellent condition with spacious and very comfortable rooms and a high level of cleanliness. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has food of very good quality prepared and served generally to a high standard. It did let itself down to a certain degree through a number of issues which are totally avoidable and led to frustration on our part. The rooms have full Sky package, excellent we thought and unusual these days, but they have an issue all around the hotel with the Sky boxes failing, freezing, etc leading to them requiring constant re-booting. This was our experience and that of the member of staff that helped out on more than one instance. Breakfast was pretty good with a large choice, however, they have to learn how to cook bacon without cremating it. They had an inability to provide white bread with the breakfast, my wife does not like brown and sourdough does not toast!!. No deliver of bread for 4 days, perhaps a call to Waitrose, who delivered on the second day, would has sufficed especially when guests have requested it more than once. Restaurant food was very good, but they again had an inability to provide the menu, this time it was the sweets, 2 from 4 was the norm 1 from 4 on 1 day is not good enough - delivery issue?

Needed a quiet place for a work trip. Convenient, clean, comfortable with great views and nice surroundings. The room was spacious and clean. Complimentary cookies were very good… Highly recommended and I will come back if I have the opportunity.

Alexander Pope review When you travel to an area for the first time, it’s often hard to choose a hotel just from searching online and reading reviews. But, I chose the Alexander Pope Hotel by carefully reading reviews and was especially mindful of when they were written. So many negative reviews were generated during the pandemic, so I tried to look for 2023 reviews. I was so impressed with the Alexander Pope Hotel! The staff was so gracious. They were always attentive and even spread themselves out to cover all aspects of running the hotel smoothly. I loved my room, the bathroom was clean and updated, the bed was comfy and the most special treat was the homemade shortbread biscuits left each day to enjoy with my Nespresso coffee. My sister recently moved to Twickenham, so with this lovely hotel just over a mile from her flat, it will be a perfect place for guests to stay. The pub/restaurant was warm and inviting and a busy locals place as well. I’m hoping to make another visit in the future and definitely will stay again. Now, if I could get their recipe for their most delicious lemon garlic houmous, I would love to recreate it at home. 😉♥️

Fantastic location overlooking the Thames. Easy walking distance to centre of Twickenham or further afield like Richmond and Teddington. Booked a superior room with a balcony with great views. The only things we would criticise is the fact that the Sky Box and TV were not working properly and also the Coffee machine wasn't. Neither were there any instructions in the room for use of these. Staff tried to put the tv/Sky right but unsuccessful. Otherwise would have been excellent.

Good room and location but this was spoiled by the extractor fan which stayed on all night thus making it difficult to sleep.

This is the second time we’ve stayed here. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We had slight problem with our TV satellite signal which was dealt with by the duty supervisor. Unfortunately, he was unable to fix it completely, so immediately moved us to a new room. As I stated previously the service was excellent. I would though that the rooms could do a lick paint to brighten them up.

Poor service. Abrupt lady working - told us every time we spoke to her that she is the only one working, so it made guests feel bad. Breakfast was poor, uncomfortable atmosphere. Wrong cooked breakfast provided and no option to change.

Receptionist pulled out all the stops on the Friday to get us checked in early, staff super attentive all weekend. Fabulous.

Stayed two nights for work, really disappointing poorly made eggs Benedict breakfast which was also stone cold. I was also kept awake by neighbouring dogs left outside all night from 3am onwards barking. A real shame as apart from issues above the hotel and staff are really good.
