Vagabond Inn Monterey, CA

This motel had been recently almost totally renovated but the price was absurd for what it offers. The room was clean but rather small for the typical motel. There were no double pane windows and since our room was at the front, it was very noisy from the traffic and it was hard to fall asleep. There was not even a room for the coffee machine or any kind of breakfast. The swimming pool looked like it had not been cleaned for quite some time. The only advantages: easy parkin and two blocks away from the fairgrounds.

Two clothes dryers broken. A/C broken. The room was dirty. No refrigerator 👎

This is the worst Hotel I've ever seen. The pool was poluted and closed sorry, got a refund. The internet connection was very low. There was a TV in the room, but the screencolor was deep blue. We stayed in the basement and could hear almost every word and every step in the room above us. There was a laundry but we couldn't use it because they said the coin depot was full. Dogs barking from almost every room. Never Motel 6 again!

The property looks old and needs maintenance. The pool area was filthy. It's definitely not a place to stay with teenagers and children. Neighbors were extremely loud throughout the night we could hear them thru the walls. The street traffic was too loud. Definitely not a quiet place we had a restless night.

The first thing that we noticed when checking for our 2-night stay was that the pool had been closed by the health department. Choosing a property with a pool was important to us, it was unfortunate that there was nothing advising us that the pool had been closed by the health department since 7/27/23. The person at the desk only wanted to give my husband and me one key card and we had to practically demand another. Additionally, she did not review our accommodations with us or provide us with anything in writing. The next day, we were at our venue and had paid an admission fee when we got a call stating that we had not checked out. I requested 2 nights on the website, but it only recorded one. The whole mess could have been avoided if the arrangements had been confirmed at check-in as most other properties do to prevent this exact thing from happening. Although we were trying to extend the booking from my phone, Travelocity was trying to tell us that we would have to switch rooms. I had to tell them to call the property because we were not leaving our venue to come back and move our stuff. The icing on the cake was that I had medication with me that needed to be refrigerated but the refrigerator was set so low, my milk spoiled and my meds were ruined.

Clean and nice employees at front desk and cleaning. Plus they had clean laundry room that cleaned the clothes good at an inexpensive cost

It can be clean better. Pool was nasty looking but overall was quite good if you are not planning to spend a lot of time in the room

Bath tub was dirty and stained, random hair on my bed and they don’t even have the basic amenities like hand soap. You get what you pay for I suppose

The bed was not clean. Stains on the sheets and lots of hair all over the sheets. No Tv remote. Bathroom door would not shut. And shower head would not stay on the holder when in use. Hole in bathroom shower stall wall. Floors were dirty also!

I didn’t have very high expectations. Room: small size, 2 double beds, shower was old but working. AC wasn’t working well. And I got bed bug bites on my arm after sleeping here!! :( Hotel: They told us the lobby has coffee in the morning but there wasn’t ( said coffee machine was broken).

Checked into a non smokig room and it smelled so strong of old stale cigarette smoke I gagged. Switched rooms and the new room had hair and debris on the floor and on the wall behind the toilet where the towels hang were fingerprints in feces. Yes poop. And along the wall and side of the shower stall. Disgusting. I took pictures and went to get new towels after i wiped the walls myself. The manager was scolding the nice desk clerk for switching my rooms. I told them the problem and he handed me 2 towels with long curly black hair stuck to them. When i pointed it out he plucked it off and said its fine and went back to scolding the clerk. Very bad rooms for cleanliness and manager was rude. Stay away!

Room was clean, comfortable. Location is convenient to downtown Monterey, and Cannery Row. Service was great.

They have one pool. Sink faucet has strong water pressure but shower water pressure was weak. Like another reviewer, I also had a room where the outside light kept on shining through and the curtain couldn't block it out, so it made sleep more difficult. Other than that, it looks like this motel has been recently renovated on the inside as the room looked clean and modern. Located near other motels and fast and easy to get to other parts of Monterey and Carmel.

Main issue, closer to the airport than I thought. Flights start at 5:30a. One room was having some interpersonal issues and were shouting a lot. TV was always showing weak signal and pixelated quite often.

The staff was friendly and quick to respond. Easy check in. Easy check out. The room was unkept. The floor needed to be thoroughly swept. Weak signals for WiFi and cable TV.

Was a reasonable price. The bed was very un comfortable. Please replace the beds!

Didnt hold reservation when selected pay at property and gave room away.

I got a call at 8:45am and left a message staying since their mastercard system fail to process my credit card they cancel my reservation even do I spoke with a rep a day before and confirm my reservation. they were full booked and they want to dropp some clients since they over sold the rooms. I waiting over an hour from the time I was at the hotel to check in. Room was clean and ok. But front desk guy has really bad customer service skills

We checked in at 3pm to a filthy room not cleaned at all, towels everywhere no bedding etc. Went back to the lobby to let them know. They told us give them 30min. A hour and a half later the room is finally ready. That evening when we turned off the lights to go to sleep the whole room was lit up like it was day time outside. Their parking lot light was not properly mounted to the roof and was littering hanging over the roof and shining directly into our room window. We told front desk the next morning and we were told maintenance would come. My husband even offered to help, but no maintenance ever came. Next morning we asked what happened with maintenance man coming for the light. They said what light… We stayed three nights and the last night they taped a trash bag to our window that was falling off at the top. Not once was there an apology or an offer of money back or an offer to check out later. We will NEVER stay here again

I do like that they put us in the ground floor. The staff was great. They didnt bother us that much. Only complain that i have is that the AC unit in my room could only go down to 66. I wish it could be colder.

I had two rooms, they let me check in early for one of the rooms. After driving for 4 hours to get there, that was wonderful. Thank you Motel 6.

We stayed 2 days. We went out all day, when came back, the key was not working, the room was not cleaned, it was not on the to be cleaned. The receptionist was not there at first we came to ask. And receptionist was not there when we checked out. It was just terrible.

The check in was confusing. I apparently had a mix up on two instead of one room. The desk clerk argued that he could charge me for TWO rooms because of my error, but that he was being “nice” I let it go. Then later when my daughter wanted to use the shower, the shower handle was broken. We couldn’t turn on the shower. When I called the font desk, they asked me if I pulled the handle, etc. It was so loose that it wouldn’t turn or pull. Maintenance person comes, says he needs a part and will be back. An hour goes by. I call the front desk to ask where the maintenance man is. She hangs up on me! I call back. Angry now. My daughter has waited an HOUR to take a simple shower. I tell them that “extra room” they claimed I booked is where we will move if the shower isn’t fixed. She says she will talk to the manager. 15 minutes later the maintenance guy shows up and finally fixes the shower. I’m glad we are only her overnite.

My recent stay at the Motel 6 in Monterey was a positive experience, thanks to its location and well-maintained facilities. The hotel is ideally situated with a Denny's directly across the street and a CVS right next door, which made getting food and supplies incredibly convenient. We rented three rooms for our group and were pleased that the staff was able to place them all right next to each other. The rooms, while a bit on the small side, were very clean and served our needs perfectly. We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and well-kept, as did the parking lot. The staff was very helpful. They were friendly and quick to resolve the few minor issues that came up during our stay. We also noticed the nearby airport, but the planes weren't frequent and were not audible from inside the rooms, so it wasn't an issue at all. Overall, this Motel 6 is a great option for anyone looking for a clean, convenient, and affordable place to stay in Monterey.

Great place to stay - close to Monterey Fairgrounds. Stayed there for CaliRoots festival.

Pros: great location, friendly staff, dog friendly, clean space and a good price for what you get! Cons: Just a bit loud outside so we left the tv on overnight.

This is a very shady part of town. The room smelt very bad. There were criminals in the parking lot. There was a sign in the lobby, encouraging people to call the number to stop human trafficking. We left within one hour because we feared for our safety.

Very basic, sparse but clean accomodation with comfortable bed and decent wifi. If I had booked a room at a motel just a 4 minute walk closer to downtown I would have paid $30-40/night more. Very good value for price. My Lyft driver told me the property was in the news and said to be slipping or "sinking". This caused no issues during my stay.

Those working the front desk went out of their way to be helpful, the room was clean, and there was a diner across the street that has good service and food.

Clean, quiet room. Staff courteous & polite. No coffee machine in room, however, coffee in lobby. Small fridge in room to put my 1/2 & 1/2 there. Only powered milk offered - do not like. TV had a strange hue to it - didn’t know if settings were correct or it was not a good quality tv. Did not offer channel to watch Giants game & was disappointed.

The manager was an excellent gentleman who was very kind and helpful. The pool was dirty and we cleaned it ourselves with the pool net they had. It was, however, too cold to swim at the time of our visit. The room was a bit tight for The back of the facility is the Monterrey County Fair Grounds, and to the next door is CVS. It was a very convenient walk to many restaurants. The only problem we had was the running toilet which they fixed immediately. Overall, it was a very nice stay.

Very bad hotel and small rooms . Nothing in the room , no coffee, no shampoo . Bad and dirty beds and sheets . Not worth the stay . Very noisy hotel . We woke up on the warehouse next door making big noises. Coffee in the office disgusting. Should never be in expidia to choose from .

This is a budget stay, the rooms are clean, and the service is great. Also, the location is near all the main venues in Monterey. However, it’s the first time I encounter a Motel 6( or any budget motel, for that matter) without a fridge or a microwave in the room.Thé only way to get my morning coffee was at a coffee shop, which isn’t great for a budget stay
