The Gate Hotel

If you are looking for night life, there are 3 bars just downstairs has a joint beer garden, it's not too loud for us. As for the accommodate part, it's a building without elevator, so if you have luggage you will need to carry it yourself or ask the staff to help. And the stairs is a bit tilt. Other than that, this is a quite nice place, as it's close to Spire, and has fan, radiator inside the room, the room is spacious for us, lighting is really good as well.

The pictures from this site do not match the hotel that we stayed in. The exterior picture is not even close and the room/bathroom do not match, unless there are remodeled rooms. There is not breakfast served on property, they tell you to go to a restaurant around the corner. The staff was nice and it is well located for pick up location for Finn McCools tours (although I don't know if they always pick up at the same location). We were put in a room on the 3rd floor and the "cold" water from the tap was a trickle, but the hot water was HOT. When I shared this with the front desk, I was told that to let the "cold" water run and that would help with the pressure. It was offered for us to changed rooms, but that seemed like too much of a hassle and we felt it was easier to deal with the "cold" water rather than chance something else. Also, the bathroom lighting was horrible with a mini mirror that was not even at a "normal" height, and also the bathroom did not match any of the bathrooms pictured. I hope that this hotel is in the middle of some remodeling because it is in a central location.

Good location, 24 service so you can go and enjoy the nightlife. Don’t remember coming back a couple of nights but I woke up in the bed safe and sound. Went just to experience Dublin. Bar downstairs open till 2:30 each day but not too noisy from hotel room.

Fibbers Nightclub is right next door and when it closes the patrons congregate on the sidewalk and are extremely loud. The hotel could use some updating. Only one staff member was helpful, the remaining staff at the desk were not helpful and at times rude. No elevator so people are expected to get their luggage possibly to the third floor. No assistance from the males would help when we checked in. A female staff member did help with our bags. We lasted one night, checked out, took a taxi to a great hotel near the airport. We changed our flight and came home a week early.

The Gate Hotel was perfect for our stay in Dublin. It’s central and walking distance from most things we wanted to see/do. The only tricky part was that there were no elevators, so for older folks that may be tough. We managed just fine. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We would absolutely stay there again. They also have a deal for parking with a nearby garage, which was also helpful.

Two flights of stairs were difficult for 2women late 70s.

The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring in and around Dublin. Bus from/to airport and everywhere else around Dublin is only two minutes away on foot on O’Connell St; Luas tram out front; Connelly train station 10 minutes walk. The room was small but it was sufficient for my needs since I was traveling solo. The building is looks a bit run-down and the reception desk is up one flight of steps. Access to the building is restricted, so guests have to be buzzed in which is good for security, but left me feeling a bit nervous once when I and another guest tried the buzzer four times (and also called on the phone) before we were finally let in by the reception clerk Vanya who apologized and said she had been busy helping another guest. I was told after check-in that daily housekeeping is not provided and was told to just ask if I needed clean towels, bedding, or anything else, but my room was serviced regularly with fresh towels, trash emptied, coffee replenished, and bed tidying. My room faced Parnell street so when I had the window open there was some noise from the street and a loud compressor that went on and off again repeatedly, but with the windows closed and the room darkening curtains closed the noise was minimal. Other reviewers mentioned noise from the bar downstairs keeping them awake but for me it was muffled and not at all a problem. My bed was a bit too cushy for me but it had fresh linens and a cozy duvet and I slept well enough. Staff are really nice

Staff was wonderful!! The room was clean and the hotel was located in a very central area. We did have a car and they have parking validation for 50% off at a nearby parking garage. Word of warning... the hotel is above a VERY loud bar that is open late. Our room vibrated from the music and the door to their smoking section of the bar was right next to our room. The music was like clash of the death metal bands lol... but i guess it added to the experience? Luckily for me, the music didn't bother me and we slept with the tv on to cover a little bit of the music.... but if you have a hard time sleeping with loud music and people talking, you won't enjoy your stay. If you're a go with the flow person... laugh it off.. or go down and check out the bar.. it's very unique!

Great value for the price. Right in the centre of the city for a budget break it’s great! There is stairs to check in, very basic area. The rooms are a lot more luxurious than we were expecting and nice big windows & tv and the bed is so comfortable, clean hotel standards. Staff are pleasant and then there’s a pub restaurant attached so if you want food from the hotel as such you would go there. No room service. You ring a bell for them to open the door too, day & night, so good security.

This hotel is desperately in need of updating. My bedroom was small, not very clean and felt like a relic from the 1970's. The window could open fully, with no security restraint, posing a serious hazard to any guest bringing a young child.

The staff were wonderful. However, the room smelled like mildew. There was no vent in the bathroom so you could smell that the door was shut for a while with the dampness trapped in. There is no AC in the hotel so you have to keep the windows open all night. The noise on the street kept me up. This hotel has potential to be a 4 or 5 star but it needs to be updated.

We arrived at the hotel and found a locked reception door. It took several minutes for anyone to answer the reception bell. While we waited, we were approached by several people asking for money and other things. The hallway to our room was dirty and smelled like old urine and pot smoke. We left and looked for another hotel.

Clean, nice size, big beds, and friendly staff. A bit run down in terms of carpet, locks, and doors but the location is amazing.

Cold water was strangely hot at first, there was some mould on the bathroom ceiling and sealants were discoloured and needed a bit of an extra clean. Tv needs a bit of work as channels and web element was poor due to bad wifi recention. Remote control strangely the buttons were the wrong way around and had to press up to reduce volume and vice versa.. staff need be a bit more aware of health and safety as hovers left in corridors at night and wet floor sign in the middle of the stairs.

Place is run down and not clean. Very very over priced we were £311 for 2 nights and the room pretty much like your mums spare bedroom. Never saw a cleaner once. No fresh towels etc. goggle states that breakfast is included within your stay at Murphy’s restaurant however this is not the case and not included in the price. Rooms are dated. The bed is sore to sleep in, the springs stick out of the mattress making it very uncomfortable. The WiFi doesn’t work and signal on tv is pretty bad unable to watch anything. I will not be returning to this hotel and I would never recommend this to anyone. AVOID.

Very dated and needs lots of updating, great Location for bars and easy to walk to main city centre however got absolutely no sleep as this is on a busy road with buses and loud siren’s constantly passing and if that wasn’t enough to keep you awake it’s above a very busy club with people still partying and screeching until 6am Pleasant staff and did provide plenty of clean towels and basic toiletries along with out of date coffee!

The room was ok and clean...but the heat in the room was unbearable. The heating was off and we were unable to identify where the heat was coming from and so sleeping beyond comfortable and I wondered if we might get heat stroke (difficulty with no sum), but it was extreme. The staff just had no answers.

Room was like a sauna. Staff did put fans In the room but did not help with the sleep. Very uncomfortable and had little sleep.

Staff are nice and room is good . The hotel is not for relaxation ,We thought we booked a hotel that we can sleep well , the most NOISEST HOTEL( outside) that you can hear the shouting of the people outside , hotel should put SOUND PROOF.I will not recommend the hotel for relaxation

We got the deluxe double and were happy to find the elusive queen bed. However, the mattress was horrible and had a huge sink spot in it so we had a terrible sleep. The mattress was long past it best before date, quite unbearable. The room was clean and modern otherwise but was right above a nightclub and very hot so we had to choose between an open window or cigarette/marijuana smell all night. The hotel was unable to provide a fan for us and it was unbearably hot. There are narrow hallways and lots stairs so may be troublesome for some, especially with large luggage. The location is walking distance to Temple Bar area and plenty of action in the area. We even walked to the Guinness Storehouse, though it was quite far (about 40 minutes).

The check in process was quick and easy. Upon arrival was a little unsure of the neighborhood/neighboring businesses. The room amwas noisy at times from the neighbors which are pubs and clubs. The room also did not have air conditioning and was on a higher level- there was a fan provided but we had some very uncomfortable hot nights. Couldn’t open the windows because that would make the noise worse

The Hotel had loud music playing until 2am and the room was not sound proofed and as people were leaving they would stand and talk/shout outside window. Possibly the worst night sleep in 2 months travelling and we needed to catch an early morning flight.

Great basic hotel to lay your head down in. It’s not somewhere I’d hang out but the room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very nice

From the outside and hallways no it doesnt look great but the room was big, clean and had everything we needed. More milk tea and coffee you normally get other places. The staff were excellent .. very friendly and helpful. If you have mobility problems then no dont stay here as there are stairs and no lifts and it is loud from bar downstairs but doesnt bother me, great location ... would i stay again?? I absolutely would and will thank you

Hotel is very convenient to O’Connell area of Dublin as well as a short walk to Dublin Castle and Trinity College. Hotel itself was clean and rooms were comfortable with beds for 4 people. Larger room overlooking the street. The street around the hotel was noisy and dirty. Staff were pleasant. Would stay here again.

All the other pics are not from this hotel. It’s old, floors are creating, door key is an actual key. Stairs with no elevator and small hallways that are hard to carry luggage through. After researching they the area it was found to be unsafe there. Would not advise. Staff was very friendly though

A little noisy in the evenings located next to murrays Bar. Facade outside on Parnell street was a little decreprid but deceptive. Couldnt be more wrong. Very clean and modern inside and staff very friendly and accommodating.

The area did not feel safe, was loud all night. Sounded like a fight going on. Parking was In a parking deck several blocks away. The staff was very accommodating in helping up and down the many steps with our luggage. Would not stay there again.

Perfectly situated for the Aircoach stops in O’Connel Street. Clean, basic, friendly staff, good breakfast just around the corner from the hotel’s entrance. This is what you need for a few days in Dublin.

First the staff is super friendly and helpful. The place is an old fashion hotel of 50 years ago (building is about 200 years old). Rooms are efficient and have plenty of tea/Coffee available. Though no breakfast is served, but a place nearby serves breakfast. Close to the center of town. The street is rather unsafe with dopers around. We had one that annoyed us following us around.
