Hotel St Clair

The view of the beach and coast was brilliant. Undercover parking and a lift to the room were much appreciated

Staff were so helpful and friendly. I messaged the day before and asked for an upgrade to an ocean view room. This was granted. Parking is great. Quiet place.

Beautiful location on the water. Garage parking is very tight. Many restaurants within walking distance.

Also coupon for salt water pool but had to togs.....bummer, as we would have used. Great dinner & breakfast options with 5 cafés right here. Would 💯 stay here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the St Clair hotel. We booked a sea view suite, it really was worth the little extra - a fabulous view, spacious room with sitting and sleeping areas, vety comfortable. All reception people were lovely and helpful. Parking is free in their underground car park as parking on the sea front is tricky. There are multiple dining options but do book ahead as the Tiki restaurant loked nice but was full on both nights. We went esrly to the Italian, had to wait 20 minutes but it was very good. In all a great stay. And as a guest pf St Clair you have free access to the heated salt water pool on the front. Highly recommend this hotel.

The view was amazing and the room was very lovely. Great onsite parking

Underground parking was particularly useful as I had two cycles on a rack on the car. I would not have liked to park on the road where theft or damage to the cycles was possible.

This place is great. Beautiful views over the ocean, nice modern warm room and good basement parking.

This is a fabulous hotel. Our room was spacious and well appointed with an underground car park. The local restaurants are amazing and you’re on the seafront.

The good: Really nice spacious room. The bed was super comfortable. Great views of the beach from the balcony. The not so good: Bathroom has mold in the shower and the shower mixer was leaking and had poor water pressure.

The toilet was dirty, poop stains in bowl and on seat. The bathroom mirror had a large crack.

Liked the location and the friendly, helpful staff. Also the parking, the luggage carrier and lift. Did not like the hair found on my pillow and food crumbs left on the table.

The hotel was lovely, clean and quiet.

We were disappointed with how tired it was. We last stayed here about 10 yrs ago and it was amazing. Our first impressions was walking into our room and there was a curtain hanging off its hooks. There obviously had been a flood as the bottom of the kitchen cupboards had water damage. The only thing that saved the room was the view and the bed and linen were great 5 stars. But wouldn't go back unless they revamped the room. Was gutted when we paid over $400 a night you would expect better.

A quick check-in. Internal open carpeted staircase and lift access to Room 401. Beautiful surf vista through large glass door and windows the width of the room. Loved the chaise lounge setting, so comfortable. Dining setting, coffee plunger. Our anticipation at staying at this chosen beachfront accommodation was marred by a strong bleach like smell that permeated the room. The window was open when we entered and the wind was howling into the room. When we removed our shoes we discovered that a 1 metre square patch of wet sodden carpet directly outside the bathroom door. I have an aversion to chemical smells and as it got colder and windier I shut the window but the fumes gave me a headache and the musty smell mixed with the bleach smell so had to open the window for the night. My husband slept badly because when he laid on the left side of the bed it sunk down to the base, the right side was well sprung. My husband ended up with back pain and sat on the couch for half the night. Upon checking out, I mentioned the bleach smell, as well as stating it on the check-in survey, and how we didn’t shower for fear it may be a drainage problem because of the wet carpet. The reception staff said that there had been issues in 401 and 402 the previous couple of days but they believed they were fixed and yes the smell would be bleach. This information would have been appreciated when we checked in. Shows a lack of courtesy and respect for paying guests.

The front desk staff were ok. They knew where the nearest laundromat and grocery store were but had no idea of the touristy things. One day we came back to the room to find the bed made and fresh towels but boot marks and hair in the bathroom.

Comfortable and clean

Great place to stay. Well equipped for short or longer stay. Really comfortable bed and great views, close to a number of restaurants. The only slightly negative comment is that the lounge couches are looking a bit tired and could be upgraded but otherwise everything was great

This is a beautiful hotel with an amazing view! I recommend room 205!!! It is a spacious corner room with views in both directions!

Absolutely amazing ocean view! Loved the sliding window that let you listen to the surf. Bathroom is a little small but otherwise fabulous! Great location for restaurants.

Staff were lovely but our mirror light was never fixed. Woken up each morning by noise of others showering. Not well sound proofed. Nice location.

Chloé at the reception was very helpful when we were having issues with our transport. She helped us book an Uber and helped us with looking after our luggage. Chloé made our experience at St Clair a very pleasant one.

First the service was atrocious, called the reception at 21:05 for milk (as none was provided) and was told in a very rude manner that I had go the after hours line and I would have to wait for reception to open at 07:00, no issues, I asked that it be delivered first thing in the morning as we needed to check out at 07:30 and was told it would be so. Called reception at 07:15 and got a very grumpy after hours line again, this time the tone belonged to someone who was clearly not happy. I was asked why I dialed that number and replied I had just dialed reception, call was just hung up without any further explanation. Milk never came and when we left at 07:30 reception was empty. The room and bathroom were dirty, bedding old and torn. Amenities provided for one person though two were booked. Room needs attention, lots of rust which is understandable being oceanside but it shouldn't be allowed to get to the level that it was, messed with the beautiful aesthetic created by the surroundings. Only good thing about this place is the view.

For the price i paid & the information that was provided about what was included or available did not meet up to the criteria i was disapointed and not satisfied including getting charged a further 50 for late fee after i paid $400 for the room which was a late check in anyway the manager was unreasonble i will not stay here again a complete waste of money

The staff at this hotel were excellent. When we checked in quite late the checkin staff were lovely and helpful. We booked for a second night however our room type was not available so were offered an 1140am checkout as the second nights room would not be ready until later in the day. We received a phone ca next morning saying we could stay in our room for another Night and moving was not required. Touched like this make a stay so very enjoyable and hassle free. Check out staff excellent also. Highly recommend this hour if staying in Dunedin.

Have stayed here many times before. Was disappointed by the room . Don’t book an executive suite. Very unfriendly receptionist when we arrived. Let her team down

Loved the location, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable - very clean and tidy. It's a shame we weren't advised on booking that the hotel's own restaurant/cafe would be closed on public holidays, and that nearby eateries would also be closed. We had to travel further than anticipated to get meals.

The upgrades are very good and the restaurant reopening us fantastic, although it was closed for the Easter period.

Right on the Esplanade at St. Clair beach. Windy but fantastic location. A good meal can be had at PizzaBar nearby or on site cafe. Ample street parking so we didn’t try the underground lot.

Lovely room, fantastic view over a lovely beach. However we were disappointed to find that the restaurant owners were away for a month without notice. (We had deliberately booked our first night in NZ at a hotel of good repute with an in-house restaurant, to ensure a good meal after 2 days travel from the UK. We were not pleased to end up in McDonalds!)
