Castaway Bay by Cedar Point Resorts

Overall nice place near Cedar Point with fun water park HOWEVER the hot tub was not working the 3 days we stayed & that was the main draw for the parents. No hot tub No outdoor loungers because the hot tub area was closed for maintenance. Very disappointing

The staff was friendly. The property was well maintained. We had an enjoyable time. The Quaker Steak restaurant made it convenient to grab dinner as it was attached to Castaway Bay. A couple of the slides were closed as they reported they were low in staff.

Clean and comfortable. Polite staff. Love the crafts room. Elevators very small and in constant use by housekeeping. Makes it hard to move between floors if you have a stroller, wheelchair, or luggage cart. Check-in was a mess. Waited in line for 30 min. Pool was well guarded. Hot tub was broken.

The site inside and outside is in disrepair. Peeling paint and stucco. Facia board on the outside fell off building. Inside water park floors and multiple areas look rough, peeling. Not the worst but definitely need updated and cleaned up. Room was clean for the most part everything except floors were not swept a lot of hair left over from previous occupants. The giant bucket didn’t work our entire day and a half stay. Very disappointing.

Areas of improvement include: wifi connectivity is poor, along with cellphone battery drainage due to poor data availability. We had 2 rooms rented, both bathrooms needed the caulk to be replaced around the tub due to discoloration and/or the presence of mold. Ironically, both bathrooms were empty of shampoo & conditioner. Though body wash dispenser was full. Noise, vibration and harshness of hvac unit will disturb light to moderate sleepers. Finally, late night food options are limited to the "Thirsty Pony" across the street. I would highly recommend, especially in the key month of July, that Famous Dave's, (that is connected to the hotel), stays open later to at least midnight. Overall, after 25 years of coming to Cedar Point and staying at Castaway Bay, I still recommend this property! Great location, & a great value!

Check-in took an hour (40 minutes in line and 20 at the counter). This place is not clean-like dirty floors, bugs, etc. The water park is super small and the hot tub and outdoor pool were out of order. I ordered a toasted bagel at breakfast and it was stale and not toasted (though she said she toasted it twice). The waterpark closed at 8 even though the website said 10. It might be okay for those with small kids looking for a cheap place to stay. Not at all what I was looking for with teens.

Half the water slides were not open multiple days in a row … due to “ short staffed” . Rooms were specious but blankets were very thin. Got floor level could hear others in the middle of the night getting into fight . Not sound proof for a 8 year old .

The waterpark hours were only 11am (check out time) to 8pm. Check-in at 4 get a few hours of waterpark go to dinner and the park is now closed. Next day wait around for 4 hours for it to open. Check out was very slow. Only 1 small elevator was working. The line for the elevator was 20 minutes long. Limited baggage carts.

Checkin was super smooth . Staff was above and beyond . The big downside was it was advertised as 24 hour gym access which was a high priority on my list an found out after checkin in that their manager shut it down till 7 am as what we were told due to kids causing trouble . Was told by staff that they never updated the web description of amenities bout it .but other than that was ok so far . Had to connect to their WiFi cellular was bad connection . Minimal toiletries in room , def geared to younger children . Not to much yet as we seen for older children .the bonus was checkout beinu at 11 am a was allowed to use waterpark after checkout till 8 pm . Inside closed at 8 an outside at 9 . Overall : give it a 8/ 10 based on if it was a younger family stay but for us with a older teenager family 4/10 ( to be determined could rank higher after checkout an evaluate waterpark area better . ) the noise level : not very good , walls were not sound proficient . Family next door was really loud an it was disruptive for our visit . They ran tv all night an could hear it blasting through . But for staff rating : excellent 10/10 !! Very helpful above and beyond . Location : 10/10 . Access: only entry at front so room was clear at other end of building for that 3/10 . No other access points from parking lot with key card . For a younger ( child ) family highly recommend ! But if ur looking for ( teen ) waterpark at this entry of eval ( to early to eval ) would choose elsewhere .

Breakfast buffet was a continental breakfast buffet offered at most hotels for free. Nothing special and low quality. Recommend going to actual restaurant. Overpriced all around. Arcade dont even bother you wont win anything. Huge waste of money. Waterpark was great but very small. Only one big attraction and wave pool. Hot tub was great and huge! Waterpark food overpriced low quality. Rooms are adorable but cold in the winter. Whole place smells like a nursing home. Was nice to try but dont think we will be back.

Room was definitely not what was expected for the price. The floors felt dirty when walking barefoot around the room, the bathroom floor was dirty, the shower was gritty when standing in the shower. The whole room felt damp and had a musty odor like mold. My children and I all woke up stuffy noses and swollen eyes from the mold. Will not spend that much money to stay there again. VERY disappointed!!

The room reaked of sewage, we had to buy an air freshener to keep from gagging.The air conditioner was consistently fridgid, even when adjusted, and leaked. The water park was nice with plenty of lifegards. The staff was pleasant. The rest of the hotel was clean.Overall I would not stay there again although convenient to cedar point access, it wasnt great for the price.

The grounds were clean and well kept. The closeness to the park made the stay better. I rated this a 3 because we woke up to ants all around the tv area and ice bucket. Maintenance was quick to respond, but we could not switch rooms. After the fumigation, which left a smell, the dead ants were not cleaned up. Also, we had to ask for a room clean with fresh towels. The rooms are not cleaned daily as advertised in the hotel brochure.

The waterpark offered a wonderful experience for my family. However, the room was less than I expected. The floors were linoleum and were sticky in the bathroom. It was obvious that it had not been thoroughly cleaned as food crumbs lined the base of the headboard, corners of the room revealed additional crumbs, dirt, and even cobwebs. Also, the microwave didn't work which proved inconvenient. Staff did offer to "swap it out" so that we could use it prior to departure. However, we were unable to stay due to time constraints. The view was spectacular! Linens were all fresh and clean.

The loby and activities were fun and everything looked nice. The room had a moldy musty urine smell. I asked to change rooms they gave me a hard time as the front desk and house keeper took it personal. Most hotels just change your room no questions asked. The housekeeper "investigated" my claims and said it smells fine. I feel like the staff can be nose blind to the smell due to working there all day. After pushing for a different room, they did change my room and the 2nd room seemed better. It still had a slight smell. We put our bags down and enjoyed the golf and arcade which was very nice, the pizza was good! When it was time for bed, we discovered what the smell was coming from. There is mold in the air conditioning units (big chunks of mold), everything was damp, the beds were cold and damp and there was fur growing out of the vents in the shower. This place has a moisture problem which is making it smell. I only stayed 1 night out of my 2 night stay. I booked with Expedia and was unable to get my money back for the other night. This was over $300 an night. The loby was nice, the rooms were not the best. Also the TV did not work and there were flies and spiders in the room.

Fire alarm went off repeatedly at night and again early in the morning and caused a lot of anxiety especially for my 18 month old who was woken up abruptly and was very scared. Food absolutely sucks, rooms are super dirty and on top of that we came home with bedbugs. Horrible experience!

I went to Castaway Bay for my niece birthday weekend. That night as the girls were about to go to bed a bed bug emerged. Then so did another. I throughly checked everything and seen no obvious sign. But I never checked the pillows. Lesson learned.

The place is as advertised. Waterpark is fantastic for little ones, teenagers might get bored quickly. Rooms are very spacious. Beds are a touch on the hard side and wish they had bigger/more pillows, very small pillows especially for a king sized bed

Our beds were so soft and uncomfortable. The AC was loud and wasn’t working very well. The room smelled of humidity.

This property was great for proximity to Cedar Point. My kids loved the water coaster. Staff was nice! Checkin was painfully slow, over 30 minutes based on the number of people checking in. 40% of the waterslides were closed while we were there. The bathroom in the room was very dusty with some mold. The walls are thin so we could hear everything our neighbors were up to. It was ok for a night but my family won’t be back.

PROS: - Cute, whimsical, friendly atmosphere - Front desk staff were extremely personable and kind - Very fun for kids, especially younger ones - Indoor waterpark was very clean - Kids loved the water park, though it was small - Breakfast buffet was convenient and had a nice variety CONS: - No privacy in the “Family Room” - The only door was on the bathroom, everything else was open - Bad house keeping service: never made the kids’ beds, didn’t refill soaps, didn’t take out trash, didn’t show up daily - Phone didn’t work in our room - Linens were thin and cheap Overall, our stay was just okay. We were glad we spent 90% of our time out at Cedar Point, because the hotel itself wasn’t great. If traveling with a bigger family with older kids who will want privacy, avoid the “family room.”

Very pretty surroundings. No coffee machine in the room or outdoor pool was a disappointment. No sheets or blanket for the sleeper chair.

The only complaint I have about this property is the lack of draws in the room and the towel racks was in the shower. It should been outside the shower along the walls. We had no where to hang our towels after we bathed.

Very good service at the front desk. Room and hotel is extremely clean. My only dislike is that mattress on both beds in our room were worn out well beyond their service life - very hard, uneven and lumpy.

The hotel was very cute for children. My daughter loved Hank the monkey and other characters that came out to visit the hotel guests. The water park was really amazing! The hotel was very clean and the staff very nice. However, the beds and pillows were not good. The bed was so lumpy my daughter and I had a hard time sleeping at night. We stayed in room 155 and the pillows were really bad too. We will not go back and stay there because of this. Otherwise the hotel was terrific. Hopefully management upgrades the beds and pillows!

The room had a chair that made out to a bed. It was dirty on the floor around it. The mattress was terrible. There was trash on the floor in the elevator and around a trash can in the lobby. No coffee pot in the room and none offered unless you paid their $20 breakfast fee. This hotel is quite pricey. And should have been cleaner.

The hotel checked anothe giest into my room prior to my arrival. It then took then a few hours to “figure it out”. Definitely will not stay here again.

The family suite upgrade was worth the money, however the mattress and pillows were horrible. Flat, small and not enough of them. The room was clean, some missing paint in some areas, but to be expected in a family style room. More seating in the suite would make sense instead of a table with two chairs. Front desk service was very slow, check in was 10-15 minutes. However lots to do for the kids with the shows, games and of course the waterpark. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful stay. Great location to visit cedar point. We got rained out, so we were able to go back to the hotel and hit the waterpark. The resort isnt huge, which made it really nice for the little legs in our group and the adults who had been walking all day really appreciated it too. The log ride was a pleasant surprise for our teenager who rode it multiple times. Their resort activities are more heavily geared towards little ones and our daughter loved the craft room, story time, and theming throughout the resort. All the staff from checkin thru checkout were friendly and positive. From the ice cream guy, to the craft lady all of our interactions were pleasant and they made you feel very welcome.

This hotel was amazing. It Has been recently renovated and was great. Daniel at the front desk was so polite and helpful. The room was so clean! All the activities to do in the hotel. The food options were great. The water park was just right for my 2, 7.And 10 years old. I have no complaints and will always stay here.

Nice stay. Seemed cleanly. Maybe minimally run down in a few areas from age but nice overall. Front desk rep was extremely friendly, accomodating, and kind. My apologies for not catching her name. Tall African American woman with long dark hair and butterly clips. So sweet!

Unfortunately from the moment we arrived it was a bad experience. We had neighbors next door who were smoking marijuana and it made our whole room reek! As we know, that’s not the property fault but I went to front desk to explain as we had two kids with us. The manager was so rude about the situation and had us wait until about 10:30pm for a new room. Our kids were super cranky and just a bad overall first night. Once we were moved to the new room, the tv wasn’t working, tub wasn’t draining water properly, and the room was dirty. Food crumbs all over the floor. They refused to do anything for us. It was a take it or leave situation. No compensation, no help, no solutions. Second night, there was a group of about 9 kids running up and down our hallway at midnight for about an hour and banging on peoples doors. Called front desk, they didn’t do anything. Until finally one of the people next door came out and screamed at every single one of them. Very necessary. It’s a kids resort. Babies and toddlers are trying to sleep. I will say the cast workers ( the employees that held the dance parties and arts and crafts and all the fun things for kids) they were super sweet and nice to all the kids. We did feel all the “events” they had were very short. Dance party was about 10 minutes maybe less. Overall would give the place a 3/10. It was disappointing.

We received an invitation to request an upgrade from the property. While were informed in email that the property would be aware and seek to fulfill this request. The property was unaware upon our arrival and while they guided us to return later, once we received a text, again, the property was unaware. The overall check-in experience was the poorest representation of the property as they were uninformed, and the process was inefficient with a large line forming in the lobby with check-in times taking ~25 minutes to only 5 minutes. The entertainment associates sought to keep the youngest guest entertained and engaged.

Check in took a while. Our initial room was on the first floor with a smoking area 5 ft outside our window. They had us move to another room with no further issues. The staff that do crafts and work with the kids are great and are always fun and enthusiastic with the kids.

Check in is a very slow and painful process. Had 6 people in front of me and took more than 20mins to get to me. Told me room was not ready yet. Like a minute or so I got text that room is ready but receptionist told me I had to line up again!!! There were now 10 people in front of me on my second time lining up to het room keys, took 30 mins to get through line! Very stupid and inefficient check in process! Wasted an hour just checking in so I was pissed the rest of the night.

Loved the view, convenient location right by cedar point. Short drive to shopping and eating!

The hotel is so convenient to Cedar Point. There are tons of things for kids to do. The staff is amazingly helpful and friendly.

Fun for family and love the close restaurants. Clean and nice staff.

A great value. Close to Cedar Point. Safe, clean, comfortable, and convenient. The beds were comfortable and the double beds were just enough for a parent and 10 year old apiece. The water park was clean and the climate control in the waterpark was perfect and comfortable for us adults sitting back in chairs. The waterpark is compact enough to have a sight line to your kids pretty easily so you don’t have to always follow them around. Lifeguards were vigilant. I think the park uses saltwater as I smelled no chlorine at all. Towels at waterpark were free to use and plentiful as was seating. Check in was easy, parking was easy, ample, and close. The arcade was pretty fun - reasonably priced and the claw machines did pay out more than usual. The only thing I didn’t like were the elevators which where small and slow. Taking the stairs was much quicker. I didn’t find the “bay” view to be much worth paying extra for and there was some extraneous lights on the boardwalk that very slightly illuminated our room at night. It was overall a great stay. We have already booked another trip.

Ok place to stay close to cedar point

Good option if you're going to the cedar point park. Property was OK, certainly not a 4 star stay. Rooms were old and need renovations. Bathroom didn't have the typical complimentary toiletries. Showers were old. Few good things - Starbucks on site, kids loved the water park.

Reasonable price. Conveniently located a few mins from Cedar Point amusement park. Very clean. Staff was friendly. The beds were the most comfortable beds of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I highly recommend Castaway Bay.

This is the ideal spot for stay and play near Cedar Point, especially if it rains or storms.

Everything was great! Everything was clean, people were friendly, waterpark was great. I wish it had more of an outdoor area and a lazy river, but I knew that it didnt have that when booking. My two teenagers still had a great time, loved the waterpark and arcade. Went to Cedar Point for a day, the early access pass was the best. I do not reccommend Famous Dave's on site, better off going across the street to Thirsty Pony. The views from the 3rd floor patio are incredible. I would also splurge on the water facing room, I wish we had. The onsite food is pricey, but door dash is an option. The nacho bowl from the waterpark is worth the $ though.

This is a great place for family’s with young ones not too many water slides for adults and no lazy River sadly but still a good place to stay and fun arcades! The food is pretty pricey but a lot of cheap food options near by.

Great property especially if you have young kids, the water park closes kind of early 8pm witch suprised us since check in isnt until 4pm but it was still nice. My husband fished and kids swam all in all it was a great stay. It sucked there is no included breakfast, you have to pay 60$ there should have been a basic option as much as you pay to stay, but rooms were clean and nice and early entry was a plus with our gold passes for cedar point! I would definitely stay again and highly reccomend for families with small kids!

We had a great visit. No complaints. The room was clean and there was plenty to do! The only thing i would recommend is having coffee options in the room. They have a starbucks on site but the line was always quite lengthy.

Loved the water park, and availability of dining options and arcade. The water in the park was warm, and the amount of lifeguards seemed adequate. In-room amenities were a bit lacking (had to call room service to get an iron and ironing board) and check in was fairly slow, although not necessarily the staff’s fault. No breakfast included was also a bit of a letdown. These hotel mini fridges are always so tiny, and the TVs are pretty old at this point. Perhaps at least a bluetooth / screen sharing option of some kind would be nice if not a full upgrade. Not that we couldn’t make do with what we brought so not a serious issue. All in all had a great stay, no real issues. View was nice, check-out was easy, no issues with keycards. Required $50 deposit which was promptly returned after checkout. Would recommend, ***1/2

The food options were average but this morning we had breakfast at the buffet and all they had was sweet creamer for my coffee, the young lady working behind the counter went to the coffee shop next door to get me some cream. She was kind, and went above her duties, I’m sorry I didn’t get her name
