Ruttger's Bay Lake Resort

This was our 4th time at Ruttgers. We had a great time! We had a wonderful suite with a patio, jetted tub, kitchen and an upstairs room with a balcony. There were also fireplaces in the unit which would be great for a stay in the fall. We ate lunch on the golfcourse and the food was good. Service was ok there. Later we dined on the deck and listened to live music. Good service. My son loved the swimming beach, and we also used the indoor pool and hotub. The resort has a classic feel, with really everything you need right there.

We were in the North Bay and this lodging needs updating! Old couch, blinds, toilet seat, screen doors and crack in the ceiling. The resort itself is beautiful with many great activities. Nice outdoor pool, beach and indoor pool.

over all condition of grounds was not good. The outdoor pool was dirty and not usable. many of the buildings needed painting. Windows over indoor pool were dirty and not cleaned for years. The food prices were outrageous. The sign in workers were not trained well and it took too long to check in. SOME of the wait staff were unfriendly and rude. I would never stay there again

Too windy to use one of the various boats available. Breakfast in the restaurant was tasty with friendly servers. Room in the lodge was basic but nice. Great for families or a get away.

We stayed over the labor day weekend in an upstairs golfcourse unit. I had read some mixed reviews, however I thought the unit was overall pretty good. It was clean, and there was a balcony. We called the front desk for extra in room amenities and they were brought to our room without any issues. We loved hanging out by the beach as it was a hot weekend. Lots of activities. The resort did a great job with the entertainment. They had a beach party and my kids had a lot of fun playing on the beach listening to the floating DJ. We had good service at the onsite dining options. The food was really good also. It was on the spendy side but overall it's comparable to most places anymore. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we probably will stay again.

This was our first visit to Rutgers. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was really outdated and not what I expected for the price. At around $175 a night it was way over priced. The beds were clean and the set up was nice. The bathroom was tiny and in poor condition. Vents were full of spider webs and wallpaper was peeling off the walls. There were large black ants and spiders in and around the bathroom area. The room spelled moldy but staff said that was just the property and it will be better when they rebuild next year. There are entry doors all around the main property that aren't locked so that felt unsafe at times. The pool was fun and the location was great. We loved all the little shops on the property and they have a lot of family activities and are right on the lake. Overall we had a good trip and would stay again, maybe once they rebuild.

I liked that the resort provided all sorts of activities, even ones I'd never heard of. I did not like that it's 9-hole golf course and outdoor swimming pool were closed for repairs.

We really enjoyed our stay! There’s so much to do and it’s an easy location. Loved the history of the place, the amenities and the activities! Staff was also pretty responsive overall. Special shout out to two young men who worked Bingo and the Marina-they were awesome! There were, however, a number of things that were run down or out of order. The sauna, the outdoor pool, our tv in our room, a cabinet in the room, the walkway along the beach. If things were tiptop it would be perfect-tons of character and charm and also really nice- not new and modern but fixed up and cared for. Could be an end of summer issue. But overall great experience.

Staff members were absolutely amazing! Friendly, helpful and super nice. It is the first time we stay here and I was surprised in what terrible shape the installations are. Decks have not been stained in years, wood is rotting in the doors, walls, the indoor pool is absolutely disgusting and has not seen a repair since 1980. The entire electric power failed in our cabin, it seems that the owners of the resort will run it to the ground as the place is in a pretty rough shape. I would not stay here again.

We walked into a cabin that had spiders all over and a tub that had mold. We cleaned it the best we could and bought bug spray. We decided to clean it on our own since we heard when we were checking in the staffing was low. We had family staying in the lodge and did not want to ruin their stay because of our issues. We ended up leaving a day early since the spiders re-appeared. Discussed this with the front desk upon checking out. They gave me the general managers card to try to get a one day refund. I texted him, no response. I called him a few days later and he had every excuse of why the cabins were in that condition.

I love the area, the location, and Bay Lake. The staff was very good. Our room, with its two levels was inconvenient for us as senior citizens. The bathroom sink stopper did not work. Some areas in the room and some I noticed in other areas of the resort were not cleaned, dusted, as well as they should have been. One should not see spider webs and their victims on lamps or around windows, especially in a place this expensive.

It was really a beautiful property on the outside. And I hear that there is some remodeling going on due to new owners. Not sure if that's true cause I never seen such a thing going on while we were there. For the amount we paid for our room. I was very sad by how dirty it was. I do not even mind how outdated it was. It was just the lack of cleanliness and small things that could make these little rustic cabins seem more welcoming, we had peeling ceilings, ripped up carpeting and a stained couch. The hot tub area was very dirty its covered by a salarium of windows that were full of bugs and debris and to me these are easy things to keep on. We had their breakfast buffet which was tasty but not for $60 w/drinks I was in love with the little shops and adored the coffee/ice cream shop we went there twice a day. Staff was very friendly as well.

The resort is very nice. Our stay was during winter. Our room was clean, very comfortable and quiet. Would love to come back in the summer. Looks like a fun place.

The room I stayed in was nice, but really needed a deep cleaning; there were cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling. Also, there was a closet that was locked. I think this closet had cleaning supplies in it to make it easier for cleaning service instead of carrying everything up the stairs. Anyhow, it kind of freaked me out sleeping in a room with a locked closet right behind my bed.

This was my first time staying at Rugger's. I was extremely disappointed in the maintenance of the cabin that I was put in. The bathroom was falling apart. When i showed, the water backed up to midcalf. It felt like I was in a very rustic, worn down cabin.

King size bed was actually 2 twin mattress’s pushed together.

Very reasonably priced Villa. The building & unit were very clean & all furnishings (inside & on the deck) were updated nice quality pieces.

I had No heat. Otherwise it was a good stay

AC in the room didn’t work. With the late check in of 5pm (latest I’ve seen) we didn’t get in to our room until later and therefore didn’t notice the lack of AC till late. We survived the night. When we reported it to the front desk they said we should have reported it early and essentially said tough luck. We also had a hornets nest between the sliding door and screen. The pool wasn’t in working order. Many things were run down and likely not even up to code.

We had a great weekend! Bedroom had been redone. Really comfortable king bed. Terrible pull out sofa with a very thin, very old mattress. Not totally clean, but it is a cabin so it is what it is. Plenty of great food options and the inflatables on the beach were a hit with my niece. All together very pleasant experience.

Overall it was a nice stay. The property was just purchased for the second time a month ago. There is a ton of construction right now, but somehow it wasn’t that noisy. The good… it is a very clean resort. Lots of water sports available. Staff is so incredibly kind and helpful. It said that breakfast was included when I booked online, but when we got there they said it wasn’t. I just showed them where it said it was included, and of course they honored it. Here is my biggest problem. The only reason I booked Rutgers is because of the outdoor pool that overlooks the lake. We realized when we arrived that the pool is closed for renovations. While speaking to a supervisor, she was full of apologies and explanations, which I do understand being it was just purchased. After explaining to her that was the ONLY reason I booked the resort, she offered me nothing. Not a fishing boat for 1/2 day or a discount on spa services etc. They should have notified me by email, which they sent me two other messages before we got there. I read through them and no mention of the pool. They have fixed the pictures on Expedia now so the main picture isn’t that pool. My only other problem was the prices at the restaurant. Breakfast was included for us but I saw what it costed and I was blown away. They had an extremely mediocre breakfast buffet and they were charging at $25 for an adult and $6 for a basic cup of black coffee. I would probably go back when it’s finished.

We had a great time! The property and lake were gorgeous, the staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly. They had fantastic amenities! The condo was nice, very spacious, but a little run down. The screens were damaged, so the mosquitos came in at night, and I would recommend additional plates, silverware and perhaps salt/pepper in the units with full kitchens. I would definitely go back!

Management has obviously decided to give up on property upkeep. A very tired property. A/C in the unit didn’t work. Food was disappointing. Staff was not very helpful. Host in main restaurant was very controlling and unfriendly. Used to be a great place to visit but not any more.

The area of the resort and lake were very nice. Staff was extremely helpful and so friendly. Our room which was in older motel style building needs a definite update and refurbish. However, bed was very comfortable and it was nice to sit out on screened porch in the morning. The shower/bath combo needs bars to get in and out for older persons such as ourselves. No effort to recycle water bottles/cans, etc.

Love Ruttger's! We go ever summer. Its a nice relaxing getaway before school starts up. Having the option of swimming in an indoor or outdoor pool as well as in the lake is great! Food is delicious!

I came to Ruttger's for a quick 3 night family getaway with my wife and 14y/o son. Stayed in one of the Villa's which was very clean and modern. Had a view of the lake off the upstairs deck which was great! The grounds were all well kept up with plenty of walking paths. There is a ton to do here with activities here for all ages from pickleball to bingo, live music, boutique shopping and more! Indoor and outdoor pools were both great and go past 8 feet. The swimming beach was well kept and there are tons of large floaties in the lake to climb on. The marina has a large number of vehicles to rent, some free and some with a fee. Free pontoon rides are offered in the mornings and evenings for guests. We did a Friday night cruise and our driver was great. He and all of the staff here are very friendly and helpful. The food was also amazing. Ruby's Dining offered a seafood boil one night and prime rib the next. All very tasty. There's a coffee and ice-cream shop that we frequented quite often. The on site bar also has good food offerings with a massive outdoor deck, though I wish they served food past 9pm. That's my only complaint from our time there - a limited menu should be served until 11. Our request to order a pizza was denied at 8:58. Other than that, I highly recommend this place!

Resort looks a bit tired. It was Octoberfest weekend so very busy. Main dining room options were limited with Octoberfest. Breakfast buffet was not inviting. We dined all meals elsewhere. Was charged an extra fee above reservation quote. Expedia credited me back that fee. Some of the accommodations there look to be very nice but more than we were looking to spend. Our 2-queen room was very standard. No maid service. Had to find someone to request extra towels but still paid over $600 for the 2 nights. Surrounding property is beautiful.

We had a great time at Ruttgers! There are definitely a few things they could do as easy upkeep— like a lot of the buildings need a good pressure wash and paint, but it’s been great to see the improvements over the years! And the restaurants at the resort are high priced for the “vibe” (flys everywhere because they leave the doors wide open) and service isn’t the best, but the food is good.
