I think it should be clear that when booking a room, What level the room is on. For example that the hotel doesn’t have elevator access or that the room is on the 3rd floor. Room was clean and pretty modern. The bed could be updated as it was very low to the ground and mattress was a little uncomfortable (bumpy). It should also be noted that walking on The 3rd flight of stairs are not up to standard stair width (very narrow) and steep. People with large feet have to walk sideways up the last flight. Loved how checking in was remotely done. Keypad to enter hotel and room was easy. Main floor was well decorated and stocked with amenities like utensils, coffee, etc. 2nd floor had a dedicated area to log into a computer should someone need to access their information remotely. Great location and it was peaceful during our stay.

I loved the suite, having a patio, kitchenette, etc. Great location! Two challenging things . . . the staff could have been more helpful about a place to secure and expensive bike. They were just a big "no". I did have it on my patio vs. the entry courtyard. I popped it over the railing and locked it to my patio table. Also, very noisy room. Otherwise, a pretty fabulous place!!

The key area that was excellent was the staff Arlene and Holly. I was not aware that there was not dedicated parking. I walk with a cane and we had to park down the block. Also, the check-in was virtual and we had some difficulty understanding how to access the room. For the room we had you go through a swinging door to the left that appeared to be pad locked. It would be great if the padlock was removed totally making it less confusing. I would have also liked some type of security latch on the entrance door. This hotel was comfortable and conveniently located. In the living room they had a shag thick rug under the coffee table that due to the closeness I tripped on a couple of times. Again, I want to close and state that Arlene and Holly were absolutely great.

This was a last minute booking for my wife and I and we couldn't have been happier. Shared bathrooms and a very small but very comfortable room. The whole place was clean, quiet and inviting. The Bird Rock made no-contact check in so easy they just keep doing it, and it works beautifully. This is a place I will return to, for certain.

Hotel was very clean. However, they do not have a place to sstore luggage pre- or post-check-in so you have to take it 3 blocks up hill to the companion hotel. There is also no airconditioning and no windows to open. Our room was warm and stuffy so we slept with the outside door (second floor!) open. Good location in town and very clean. Not wild about remote hotel staff conact only. call me old fashioned.

We fully enjoyed our stay at Bird Rock. The room was small but very comfy. We enjoyed the shared deck and outdoor seating. Yes, it's a shared bath but both baths are very clean, with good showers. The lobby area and outdoor patio are charming and very welcoming. Expect morning street noise when early-morning ferries arrive with delivery trucks, but the hotel very helpfully supplies earplugs in every room. I'd love to return!

It’s well-located, with clean modern fixtures and furnishings. But this is not a hotel, it’s a multi room ABNB. There’s no staff on site and response time to texts can vary. I can only speak for our room (12) which was a large bathroom with a bed in it. You step out of the shower right to the bed. The toilet has a sliding door, but it’s only a few feet from the bed. Power outlets are very hard to access. There is limited dresser and hanger capacity. No fridge or microwave. The room is an example of a Paul Simon lyric, “One man’s ceiling is another man’s floor.” You can hear EVERYTHING going on on the floor above you. So, great location but limited comfort for the price.

Having stayed at Bird Rock and Earthbox I'd choose Earthbox for my next visit to Friday Harbor. Both properties are well decorated and maintained but, despite Bird Rock's convenience, for those who are walking from the ferry, Earthbox has the advantage of being a quiet location who's rooms ( or at least my room ) have sleeping areas that are not flooded with light ( during typical sleeping hours). The staff are very helpful and welcoming.

Having stayed at Bird Rock and Earthbox I'd choose Earthbox for my next visit to Friday Harbor. My husband and I stayed here and we both really liked it. The hotel has a great and convenient location. Walking distance to restaurants, the Orca museum and the ferry. Communication is great even though is through text and email. We had a shared bathroom, which I was a bit nervous about. But the bathroom was clean and spacious.

The lack of in-person staff was odd at first, but I got more help from texting my concierge than at any of the other hotels we stayed at during this trip. Facilities were clean and the whole place looked great; it was a bit noisy outside but the hotel's in the middle of downtown and near all the action, so it's a fair tradeoff for convenient shopping & dining.
