Clean rooms. We enjoyed the family suite option with three beds and a small kitchen. The pool is clean, beautiful and nice and cool. The manager was very accommodating. We had to stay in town after check out because of an online work meeting and he let us stay so our kids could play in the pool while we waited. He gave us a place to change afterward. The location is just down the street from the entrance to Joshua tree National Park for easy park entrance. Highly recommend.

The pool area is great! But the water isn’t heated. Sometimes the shower water temperature fluctuates. Overall though, the experience and personelle are wonderful!

Very convenient to the base, was in town visiting a family member stationed at the Marine Corps base. Also, very close to Joshua Tree national park. I loved the garage style parking right next to the rooms & large pool. Staff at the hotel was very nice and friendly! I will definitely stay here when I visit 29 Palms again in 2026.

Great location, clean and comfortable. Easy check in and out. Great and easy parking in our own garage attached to our room! Unfortunately, I wasn't there long enough to use the pool, which was beautiful. It had a very retro, fun vibe!

El Rancho Dolores Motel is my hub whenever I am in Twentynine Palms. Their rooms are clean and comfy, parking is right in front of the unit, and the amenities -- fridge, microwave, tv, wiFi -- always work. The swimming pool is great on a hot day and the north entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is minutes away. What really makes a stay at El Rancho Dolores especially comfy, however, is the staff. The owners plus Tulouna and team keep the grounds manicured, the rooms tidy, AND they are quick to help with a request -- extra towels, more coffee (there's a coffeemaker in every room), or early check-in. They help me feel at home in the high desert.

The sheets were dirty and the mattress was stained with a yellowish color. I had my own sheets i didnt feel that nothing was clean and i couldn't shower because the water turned cold after a few mins. And honestly the bedding looked ugly. It was quite which was good and the building from the outside looked nice but the inside it was not so attractive

Okey stay for one night. The floor was dirty and we got black under our socks. The bathroom window was broken when trying to open, the bathroom fan goes on loudly when turning on the lights. But still okey for one night

There was poo left in the toilet and it smelt worse than anything I've ever smelt. Not to mention the pubes in the bed and the thick layer of filth on everything. It obviously hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I left immediately and complained, but the guy at the desk wouldnt give me a refund.

The spot is close to the entrance of Joshua and fine for a night stay. I didn’t like that the bed cover was a bit dirty; there were burn holes in the sheets and sand on the covers. There was a bone in the bathroom and the water took forever to get warm. The staff was friendly though and parking was conveniently in front of the room

Staff was friendly and rooms were equipped with amenities. However, once the sun went down we realized our room was infested with cockroaches. This was due to a gap under the front door. Our stay was during the middle of summer, but this situation could have been easily avoided with proper maintenance of the building. After reading more reviews I realized this was a common experience. It did indeed ruin our stay.

The room was very clean and appears to have been recently renovated. Everything is new, not just a fresh coat of paint. Nice tile work in the bathroom. Mattress was comfortable, AC worked well. The free Wi-Fi is EXTREMELY fast, well over 400 Mbps with an easy logon, just enter the password. (I rate good Internet highly, as so many places have dreadfully slow "free" Internet, then charge you for a decent speed and require setting up an account.) The woman at the front desk was very pleasant. About the only thing that wasn't ideal is the bathroom and shower are kind of small, but they are sufficient.

The rooms were a decent size and parking was directly adjacent to each room. The motel has a cool retro vibe. It is in a super convenient location near the west entrance to Joshua Tree park and walking distance to the downtown area of 29 Palms; however, because of the easy walk, vagrants were sometimes loitering in the central motor court. When unknown people knocked on our door in the middle of the night, the front desk responded quickly and moved our room the following morning. After that, the rest of the stay felt more secure.

Furnishings in good condition. Bed too soft for me, but I never expect a decent mattress when I travel. Next to busy road. Get a unit in the back. No carpet which is a major plus. Bathroom dated, but functional. Overall, when I come to town, I'll stay here.

It was surprising how big the kitchen area was, including a 3/4 size fridge, a stove, a microwave and even a 2-seat eating area, in the room! Parking in front of the door, and the entire staff was very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

Much of the appeal of a desert getaway is a break from the over saturated living of LA so I’m very much down with a no-frills motel like the Rancho Dolores. Overall, I was pretty happy with my stay. She may not be glamorous but my room was clean, I was plenty warm while overnight temps dropped to 40, and had it been an appropriate time of year, I would’ve been glad of the pool. A couple of critiques: the water took FOREVER to get hot. My second morning, it was taking so long I decided to just skip it and shower when I got back home. And, I waited in the lobby for about 25 minutes ringing the bell, calling the phone number, trying to alert someone that I needed to check in. (Desert pace of life is different, I do acknowledge.) But overall, I’d recommend the Dolores. Very affordable with old school desert character. It’s close to great restaurants and easy to get to wherever your agenda may take you.

The desk clerk was really nice. She was very patient and helped an elderly person who looked like she came off the street. The place had other good features such as location and I was able to pull right up to my room to park.
The desk clerk was really nice. She was very patient and helped an elderly person who looked like she came off the street. The place had other good features such as location and I was able to pull right up to my room to park.

The woman at the reception desk always had a friendly smile when I came by at night to have a new doorpass made so I could get into my room where I left the old doorpass. The landscaping is nice!

The property is located close to some nice eateries (Grnd Sqrl is just diagonal across the street) and very close to markets and convenient stores. Excellent choice for a multiday trip to Joshua Tree for it is also walking distance from the newest visitor center and the Northern entrance to the park. Got a great night sleep.

The rooms were a decent size and parking was directly adjacent to each room. The motel has a cool retro vibe. It is in a super convenient location near the west entrance to Joshua Tree park and walking distance to the downtown area of 29 Palms; however, because of the easy walk, vagrants were sometimes loitering in the central motor court. When unknown people knocked on our door in the middle of the night, the front desk responded quickly and moved our room the following morning. After that, the rest of the stay felt more secure.

This is an older motel with decent rooms and a nice pool. It was sunny and reasonably clean. We were happy about the kitchenette. Not everything worked: the shower did not drain and the windows were not working well. Staff was really kind and we did like our stay. The main problem with this motel seems to be that it is located in the immediate vicinity of some kind of homeless encampment. There were occasionally strange, confused people wandering about the property. Our back window looked out onto a big empty lot that seemed to house some kind of encampment. I complained to the manager and he said “it is not our property behind the hotel. What we can do about it?” And gestured to the sky. I would not return again for this reason. I was with my daughter, and we felt uncomfortable and not entirely safe.

Located right where you want to be when staying in Twentynine Palms. This end of town has the best food options for sure. The hotel condition was surprisingly good given the age of the property. Our room had recently been remodeled and was very clean and tidy. And the staff was so friendly and welcoming. Really a charming place.

This is a perfect place to stay and get some rest in between hiking and exploring Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree. It’s not a five star luxury resort, but it doesn’t claim to be. The staff were extremely friendly and it is centrally located to the Joshua Tree Visitors Center, Oasis of Mara and great hiking and camping spots. We also had a good time at The Far Out bar after a late dinner. We’ll be back.

Nice motel for the cost! Close to restaurants and Joshua Tree NP entrance. The room and bathroom were clean. The only issue which wasn’t a big deal was the initial smell from the drain in the shower when the water was turned on. It dissipated within a few minutes. I didn’t use the outdoor pool but it looked clean and fairly nice. Check-in went quick.

Much of the appeal of a desert getaway is a break from the over saturated living of LA so I’m very much down with a no-frills motel like the Rancho Dolores. Overall, I was pretty happy with my stay. She may not be glamorous but my room was clean, I was plenty warm while overnight temps dropped to 40, and had it been an appropriate time of year, I would’ve been glad of the pool. A couple of critiques: the water took FOREVER to get hot. My second morning, it was taking so long I decided to just skip it and shower when I got back home. And, I waited in the lobby for about 25 minutes ringing the bell, calling the phone number, trying to alert someone that I needed to check in. (Desert pace of life is different, I do acknowledge.) But overall, I’d recommend the Dolores. Very affordable with old school desert character. It’s close to great restaurants and easy to get to wherever your agenda may take you.

The room had one huge alive American cockroach that thankfully scurried out soon after the door was open, and one dead one under the main room table. I know they're "common" but it still grossed me out. The room was overall clean aside from the splatters near the toilet. The shower was very small and difficult to regulate the water temperature. the AC unit worked well however it took a long time to cool the room down as they did not have it on prior to arriving (100 degrees outside all week). Bed was comfortable and parking was spacious. No breakfast included in this motel.
