Sandcastle Inn

Basic but seems popular. Nice staff if needed. Parking right outside room but could be noisy if you’re on ground room. Room comfortable as were the beds. Amenities fridge/micro etc. hot water. pool was not heated & small but in Nov was in shade but chairs were in sun but I was allowed to use their sister hotels heated pool. Close to beach & shops. Price ok for what we got but no breakfast there. Would use again though

This was our second time staying at the Sandcastle Inn. We have enjoyed our stays. The only down side is if you have two vehicles when they are full, you have to park one somewhere else. For us it wasn’t a problem because of all the parking on the streets and it’s walking distance to the beach (which has parking)

Perfect location. Just a few steps from the beach and a short walk to the restaurants. They let me check in almost 2 hours early and the front desk lady was very pleasant. AC worked great, room was clean for being an older hotel. Beds are just so-so. The mattresses are old and they only have a thin, scratchy hotel comforter and a thin sheet on the beds but I will just bring my own with me next time. They only allow ONE PARKING SPACE PER ROOM so keep that in mind if you are planning to bring 2 cars! I definitely recommend this hotel and we will definitely be staying there again.

Excellent location and wonderful staff. Unfortunately the property is very worn down, non-smoking rooms smell like smoke, and the pool was very yucky. Overall, the property is within walking distance of everything. We really enjoyed our time there!

Nice to be within a block of the beach and 2-3 blocks from shops/restaurants so we didn’t have to pay expensive parking on the street. Nice to have tile on the floor rather than carpet. Surprised there was no breakfast but room had a mini refrigerator, microwave, and water pot.

We stayed over memorial day weekend. The room was clean and the area was quiet, considering it's in the middle of everything. The only issue I had was the parking lot size (small spaces, not a lot of parking spaces).

This was a great place to just need somewhere to sleep at. Staff was friendly, accommodated early check in, and room was very clean. Only complaint I have is the pool area needs updated pretty bad, it was small. The trash area was right next to it, so it smelled while sitting there. Thankfully we spent majority of the time at the beach.

The pool was so cold like a freezee. Was able to get in up to my waist at least. The ocean water was much better than the pool

Killed the biggest roach I've ever seen. Bathroom is rough. Floor is dirty. Tub faucet wouldn't quit running. Convenient to beach. Ladies at reception were very nice. Pay more and stay somewhere better.

Our room apparently had fresh towels put in and the beds made, but the sheets were dirty, the floor was crunchy and not swept and there was sand in the shower that would have been swept down the drain by the simplest cleaning. We checked in around 8PM so it wasn't a rush job. But there sure was an envelope left asking for a tip! The front desk lady was nice, the location is good. The hotel is old but seems to be making an effort to update. Our white bed linens were stained yellow in places and had cigarette burns. The air conditioner worked fine, although it was loud and the shower had hot water. Overpriced but that's beach hotels.

When we booked we had thought it’d be somewhat decent for a hotel with last minute booking, but to my surprise the room was disgusting. There was brown stuff in the mini fridge, SO MUCH HAIR IN THE BATHROOM, cheese in the microwave, and the floor was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. It wasn’t swept nor mopped. There was sticky stuff on the floor and the staff wasn’t that friendly. Everyone was very passive aggressive but somewhat attentive. Will not be back.

The room smelled very musty. Had to buy Lysol spray and fabric softener sheets from a convenience store to hang around the room because no other stores were open. It took about 3 days to get the smell out. No other rooms were available. The toilet wouldn’t flush. The handyman was great and fixed it with no problems. Baby roaches were in the bathroom. The bottom of the bathroom door was scratched off by someone’s pet. Front desk didn’t know about it. Property needs to be upgraded.

Check-in went well And the desk clerk was very accommodating. The rooms, however, were very outdated. The bathroom was in need of some repair and the air conditioning in our second room continually tripped the electric which requires a move to a different room. The bed linens had stains and hair. The walkways and stairs were filthy. We ended up leaving.

The floors were filthy and turned our socks black after only a few minutes of walking around. Took a rag to clean a small area and the rag was disgusting after a couple wipes. The sink had a significant leak. The door latch was broken and the outlet made our chargers extremely hot after 10-15 minutes of being plugged in. Definitely will never stay again. Do not recommend.

The rooms did not look as they did on line. The bathroom was gross. The toilet was for a child. I have a knee injury and it was very scary! I wanted to checkout as soon as I saw it.

This place is in a fantastic location, however the cleanliness was terrible. I will leave out the details but it was quite apparent it had not been thoroughly cleaned.

Over all it was alright. The rooms have been remodeled but they forgot to put decent sleeping beds. Now if you don’t mind harder beds this place is right for you. The air was amazing!!

First room we got the water was either extremely hot or burn your skin off hot so they moved to stay a couple rooms. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, but for the Location in the price, it was good.

This property was very outdated, the toilet seat was barely on, the toilet was so low to the ground you had to hold onto something to sit down. The baseboard was so old it was coming off. The air conditioners were rusted out and dripping rusty water, ours didnt even cool our room. The bed was a semi thick mattress on a "rock hard" slab foundation. The whole time we were in the room, the smell of pot was drifting in through the ac. It was horrible, we WILL NOT go back. It was a typical 2 star MOTEL, very dirty, overpriced!

Air conditioning was not good and keep kicking on and off. Would not cool down the room. Had to go purchase a fan.

It was very dated and run down. Poor sound insulation and we heard loud music until 1am. No one at the front desk cared

Property definitely needs some updating, but we didn’t pay too much for the stay. Double room and one mattress had no springs…sunk to the platform. The walls must he paper thin as we heard our neighbors until the middle of the night. Air con was terrible and loud. It stopped working in the middle of the night and had to have the TV volume up way too loud just to hear.

The Sandcastle Inn is a motel on Tybee.. the best feature is the location to the beach, restaurant/pubs and shops.. I couldn't get a good night's sleep because of the very loud, unadjustable a/c unit.. plus the bed was too firm for my comfort.. but to be fair, this is an older motel, with a friendly staff and clean..I loved the sunrise beach walk just a short walk away.

It's not a fancy hotel, but met our needs just fine at a good price compared to other options on Tybee. Super-convenient location that is walkable to just about everything, including numerous restaurants, the "main" street stores and dining/bars, and the beach (a block or so away). Room was basic but fine, clearly an older motel that has been somewhat (but not totally) updated. Our only real complaint was noise from the street, but that's probably an issue with other hotels on that street as well. If you are a light sleeper you may want to bring earplugs or run the HVAC fan all night as we did, which made it fine.

We come to Tybee every year. Most of the properties on this island are extremely old and are in need of an update. The room we stayed in here looks to have been an attempt at an update, the floors and furniture are on the newer side here. The beds are SMALL and on the firm side, I had no issues sleeping. The drapes could be better, let a lot of light into the room at night from the lights outside. I like my room pitch black at night. Fridge and microwave were clean and functioning. The location is great, right behind Hotel Tybee, just a few minutes walk to the beach, as well as within walking distance of many nice places to eat and drink. Totally walkable from here. Be mindful that you are paying for location more than the accommodation itself. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, typical Tybee hospitality. We'll put this one on our list of places we would stay at again.

I booked to stay at sandcastle inn a month prior to my trip, upon arrival there was an awful smell and after attempting to check in they told me that they had no record of me in the system, they also told me that they had no way to accommodate me. I showed my receipt and proof of purchase and they told me to look for other places to stay. I called Expedia because that’s who I booked through and after Expedia had called them they found out that they had given my room to someone with a similar last name as mine. I was also told they couldn’t refund me due to the manager being absent. I was told that the manager would be there at 8 am the next day. I called the next day and another hotel answered for them and said they wouldn’t be in til 9:30 . We were luckily able to get our refund after a lot of back and forth, however The experience with this hotel was awful.

Our first room wasn't as good as we expected, the desk clerk gave us choices of better rooms to move into and apologized. She requested maintenance to take care of it. All staff were friendly and helpful. We stay here yearly. Nice place and location.

Terrible customer service. Rooms were not ready till almost 7 at night. Floors were wet and muddy. No toilet paper. Beds were sandy. Overall condition of the property as a whole is fair at best. Location is good- close to shopping, restaurants and the beach.

What an amazing weekend! The location of this place is awesome. We never moved our vehicle, was close walk to everything. The staff was. Amazingly nice! The price was great. Very clean.

Upon checking in, the woman told me a room number (upstairs); we walked all the way around to the rear of the building, carrying a toddler and a couple of our bags, and the key card didn’t work. I went back down and she swore she told me 207. Upon a cursory glance the rooms seem clean enough; if you look in the spaces beside the refrigerator and the space behind the toilet paper holder, for example, you’ll see filth. We also encountered two cockroaches. Also, we had no clue those of us who have out of state tags have to pay $8 to park for 2 hours EVERYWHERE YOU GO. We parked in front of Sunrise Cafe and while eating, received a ticket for $55. It would be nice if the hotel staff would inform guests upon check-in that Tybee charges this fee (essentially FLEECING TOURISTS). There were a few guests down from us who formed a drunken posse, stayed drunk essentially their (and our) entire stay, had their little drunken parties at the end of the breezeway and at the pool. When informed they were making it impossible for other guests to utilize the pool, desk staff had a lackadaisical attitude about taking care of the situation. The beds were comfortable but it's impossible to get the shower water temperature right, Don't expect extra towels. If I ever visit Tybee again (which I HIGHLY doubt), I'll try the DeSoto (free breakfast and the only one right on the beach--many of them claim to be "right on the beach", including this one, but it's a lie).

The hotel is in a great spot and there's a restaurant across the street for good food. We arrived early (@3p) and our room was clean so we wew allowed to check in. Nice size room but AC was not working. Nice girl from the front desk tried to get it working bit no luck. She graciously moved is to another room and all was good. Hotel is within walking distance of mich of the south end so that's a plus. We checked out before 8a and there was no one around so we called the number on the door and left the key in a box. Not a bad place, just old. Bed was fine and price was good compared to other hotels there. It's a 2 star hotel. Comfortable and quiet.

My children and I planned to stay at this hotel after an interview at GSU. Drove to Tybee early to make sure we had time to eat and arrive at the 4:00 PM check-in time the hotel advertised. Getting to town, the roads were blocked by police officers for a parade happening on the street the hotel is on. Messaged Hotels.com about the situation to try and obtain a refund because we were hours from home and could not check-in at the time advised due to no fault of our own. Rep called the hotel and was told the manager was not there that could approve a refund. I called the hotel and left a message - no call back. We had no idea when we could even get there and no one would return our call. So, we booked another room an hour away. The hotel did finally message me back through Hotels.com to let me know they had no idea what my issue was and there other guests could get there at 5:00 PM. I am a single mom with two daughters. I can read and understand cancellation/refund guidelines. However, I didn't change my mind or decide to not go to the hotel. I tried and could not get there when they said I could. They are refusing to work with me or even reply at this point, so based on the customer service I have received I would recommend NEVER booking a room here. They are unresponsive and seem to not care at all that a simple return phone call could have resolved all of this. If I had spoke to someone, we would have waited, but I literally had no idea with children in tow.

Melenda at the front desk was super helpful. We loved the room very spacious. Bed was extremely comfortable excellent shower with plenty of hot water and great water pressure. We will definitely be back!

Our overall experience was very good. The staff was friendly. There were no issues checking in or out. Housekeeping came around daily and asked if we needed towels or anything. The room was one of the renovated ones so it was nice and clean and smelled clean. The bathroom was a little dated still and the toilet was wobbly and the toilet paper was not great. One bed was more comfortable than the other. The room did come with complimentary toiletries like soap, lotion, shampoos/conditioner, and makeup wipes. The fridge, microwave, and ac worked. It was in a great location close to restaurants and the beach. We would stay there again.

Property is conveniently located a short walk from the beach and several great places to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Staff was incredibly kind, helpful, and professional. Cannot say enough good thinga about the staff. All for half the price of the hotel right behind it but only half a block closer to the beach. If you are looking for simplicity and cost effective stay this is your place.

It is an older hotel but they keep it clean. Walking distance to the pier, all of the shops and dining. A great little breakfast spot right in front of the hotel And amazing little ice cream shop also right in front of the hotel!

The water pressure out of the sink was non-existent. But was walking distance to the beach and across the street was a 3-4 star resturant.

Very friendly staff and a laid-back atmosphere! The road beside the hotel leads straight to the beach, so it's extremely easy to get to the sand. Also, the hotel is within walking distance to lots of great restaurants, including a seafood place directly across the street. I'd definitely stay here again.
