Very close to the beach. Swimming pool is a decent size it did come in handy with the heatwave it was to hot to go to the beach. They have loungers tables, and chairs so you can get out of the sun when you want to. They clean your room everyday no need to ask or you can put the do not disturb on your door. Plenty of parking. The beds are very comfortable. I did stay for 5 nights, and i was very comfortable. They do supply shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion. Plenty of towels, and i asked for an extra comforter. The AC works great and i have to mention this again. This is a very clean motel Why pay more somewhere else this is very affordable. I will definitely come back. Staff is very friendly. Everything is in walking distance.

We had a blast . The hotel although not new and fancy was great. Room was clean, beds comfortable, it had a frig, a microwave, and the AC worked well. Loved that we could park on the hotel property the day we checked out without fear of it being towed as we had a pass that did not expire because we checked out which made it easy for us to stay on the beach all day without having to move our car. They have a small bathroom with a shower that people who have checked out can use after spending time at the beach to clean up and get dressed before going back in their vehicle. This hotel is also located a short walking distance to many of the activities in the area, restaurants and mimi marts. LOVE IT!!!.

There are only 2 downsides to this hotel: there is no elevator (it’s only 3 floors), and there is no private balcony off the back of your room. That being said, it is worth forfeiting those things if possible. They will accommodate your needs in any way they can, they are always friendly, and have extra perks to staying there (like use of the pool after checkout). I have stayed there twice now and have been impressed both times. Nice older beach hotel with great staff and a great location.

The hotel is dated, but was fantastic for what we needed. Quick walk to the beach. They allowed us to park before and after checkout to go to the beach. On site pool was great. Outdoor shower and bathroom available when coming from the beach. Office lady was super friendly. This is the first place I will check the next time I come back to the area!

Stayed at the Thunderbird with my son great location, easy beach access, quiet even with a full house. AC, fridge, microwave, and TV worked great. Pool was spotless, linens, pillows and towels were plentiful, and the room had good lighting and a handy table. Carpet was heavily worn bare feet turned black. Time for something beach-friendly and easier to clean. No bathroom exhaust meant Once the bathroom door opens; odors get pulled into the PTAC return and gently reintroduced through the supply duct like recycled regret. The “eco” shower head was clogged with minerals had to remove it mid-shower just to rinse. Staff clearly care, but a few upgrades would go a long way. Would’ve liked in-room coffee and more reliable ice, but the safe was a nice touch and parking was easy. For the price, it’s a solid stay with character and potential. I would stay again. Thanks Thunderbird Beach Motel. Thumbs up!

I liked the location across from Jolly Roger, right on the beach, and 30 minute walk to downtown OC. I didn't like the fact that the room had a musty, mildew smell. The AC ran, but never really cooled the room satisfactory. Around the property, there were rust stains, so a good coat of paint could go a long way. It would be nice to offer at least a continental breakfast and fresh coffee. The parking lot is small, but you do have parking in the back of the property. For the location and the price, it's decent for a weekend stay.

We liked the convenience of walking right up to the beach and the ease of checking in and out. The staff was very friendly. Dislikes: the room had a moldy/mildew smell, the bathroom could use towel hooks, the beds/bedding weren’t all that comfortable, the pool was sandy our entire stay feel as if the pool should have been cleaned after closing at night to prevent the amount of sand building up from people not rinsing off before entering it. Disappointed since we chose this motel after our previous experience a few years ago because the maintenance has gone downhill.

Check in was great, rooms weren't terribly dirty I just have high standards when it comes to cleanliness. they don't really like to give extra towels, the comforters you can tell are never washed. The beds are very firm. The water in the shower would constantly change temperature so I had to continuously adjust them. It's definitely out dated but it could have been worse. You get what you pay for! I went cheap so cheap and average is what I got.

This could be a very cool place if they put in a touch more effort. Smelled stale and the carpet felt perpetually wet. There was an inch of room between the bottom of the door and the floor - we put a towel down each night to prevent an unwelcome visitors. Staff doesn’t consistently remake beds. Overall it was FINE for the price during the season - but for the price, they could’ve tried a little bit harder. It’s got beds, walls, a bathroom and a couch. If that’s all you need, go for it - it’ll be all you’re expecting.

Room was not very good. Multiple stains on both beds and the floor was covered in sand. The beds also were very stiff and old. Very loud outside my room even at 5am. You can hear everything. Ended up leaving a day early and still paying full 2 days

We were skeptical but had a quick weekend trip and chose Thunderbird. Short version. It’s fine. Our room was clean and serviceable. Parking behind the hotel was quite nice and spacious and recommend over the front. Location is excellent. It’s an old hotel folks. Hasn’t been updated since the 80s I’d guess. Nothing about it is nice. It’s just adequate. We paid 250 a night on a summer weekend. That’s a lot for a dive hotel but for OC on the weekend it’s about as good as you can do. If doing the trip again we’d have no issue staying here again. Expect very little and you’ll he satisfied.

For the price it was ok and it was at a good location within 1 minute walking distance from the beach. The front desk staff who checked me in was nice and professional. I could say this, if you’re looking to sleep comfortably throughout the night you may want to reconsider or bring a mattress topper the bed was very uncomfortable.

The sheets, mattress cover, pillows, pillow cases were all wet, I had to change them myself bc it was after midnight and I guess know one was available. I was promised 15% off my stay to do so and still have not received it

Staff was very helpful. Towels were removed but new towels weren't placed in room. I think they are short of towels. I would have liked the extra lock on the door like chain or whatever. not expensive but you feel safer at night.

Ilt was a one night stay went to country calling. The clerk at the desk was able to find me a room so i can go to the show. She really helped and was friendly. I would stay here again. Great location clean room.

I called the property to ask about changing the guest name on the reservation because 2 of the 4 people going couldn't make it due to the storms and the woman who answered the phone spoke to me with such a contemptuous tone I wanted to cancel and forfeit the cost. So what she told me was that my son couldn't check in without being a"joint owner" on the account I used to book the room...then when he checks in they asked for no such proof. The room was right next to the pool so it was loud and busy. The proximity to the beach and boardwalk was nice and the room was clean. I will not rebook or recommend this hotel.

It was ok, some of the staff was absolutely miserable, almost got hit with a bag of laundry, they throw it down the steps, without even checking for guests coming up. Couldn’t check in till after 3:30, which check in is at 3, but short on staff. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want any sleep.. loud noise, kids screaming at midnight, slamming doors. Glad it was just 3 nights.. won’t be back.

I love it here. My kids and I stay every summer. Babbi (Not sure how to spell it) is SO welcoming and kind. I always enjoy checking in because she’s so friendly and outgoing. The staff are always so kind and amazing. The hotel is always clean and everything I need is stocked up. I’m always telling people about Thunderbird! See you 2025!

Great hotel. Clean and very close to the beach (2 minute walk) and boardwalk (about 5 mins) and many restaurants and activities. The parking is easy and also I appreciated we could leave the car in the lot the day we checked out so we could spend more time at beach.

There was only one small condo between the hotel and the beach. The closest beach entry goes right out to a life guard station. It's an older hotel in good condition, and was exactly what we were looking for.

It was in a great area. Not too far from the boardwalk with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. Beach bus stop was very close and just a few steps from the beach. Very friendly staff and rooms were clean and comfortable. Jolly roger park was across the road and there was parking on site as well as a pool.

I recently stayed at this motel. The customer service was excellent, and the beds were very comfortable. However, the property could use some updates. I noticed rust in the public bathroom, and the outside flooring needs to be replaced or upgraded. The carpet in the room also had an odor and looked worn, so I recommend changing it. It would also be nice if the motel offered a dining area for breakfast. Overall, the staff were wonderful, but the facilities could use improvement to make the stay even better.

It was in a great area. Not too far from the boardwalk with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. Beach bus stop was very close and just a few steps from the beach. Very friendly staff and rooms were clean and comfortable. Jolly roger park was across the road and there was parking on site as well as a pool.

The staff were friendly and the room was clean! For a quick 1 night away trip this hotel is a great bang for your buck. The pool was well kept and refeshing. Steps away from the beach is always a plus. Close to the boardwalk and in walking distance to many great shops and eats! Will be staying again on the next trip down!
