Sandia Peak Inn Old Town ABQ, a Howard Johnson by Wyndham

I was very impressed with how nicely renovated all the rooms are. The bed was comfortable and everything was in good shape. I especially appreciated them having two EV chargers. I'm not sure I'd bother doing their advanced online check-in though - they ended up asking me for almost everything when I checked in that I'd already done online so it seemed like a waste of time.

There is no longer a gym and some rooms are being renovated. My bathroom was not finished or done properly

The property itself is nice, rooms are good and staff is great.. only reasons i didnt max the review out is hecause I got tne room partially for access to indoor pool that nobody mentioned was down and drained...yet we still pay "motel with pool prices" The only other complaint i have is the gas station across the way seems a haven for addicts after hours

We arrived to find that the indoor pool was being cleaned and would be out of action. This was disappointing and if we'd known we would NOT have booked the 2 night stay. Lesson learned to check before booking a hotel because of an amenity. Then the first night we found ourselves next to a noisy, inconsiderate guest who kept us from having a good night's sleep. Apart from that, the hotel was good, clean and comfortable. Our advice is stay here, but check that the pool will be open, and ask to NOT be given a room next to one of their regular guests who leave their room every half hour for a cigarette (slamming their door no matter what time of night)!

I often stay here when I am passing through Albuquerque on interstate 40 because it offers overnight charging for my EV.

It works when your goin across country, gym was shut down

Just stayed overnight during a long family road trip. Great place for a good night's sleep. Older building and nothing fancy. Pool was drained which was a bummer but not that big of a deal as we were just there to sleep.

We ordered a room with two queen beds and were given a room with a single king bed. Also, gas cars were blocking the EV chargers and we were told “tuff luck”.

Street noise was excessive well into the night. Breakfast items lacking, orange juice in machine was old. Indoor pool was not heated, could not use. Ice machine located in breakfast area next to janitor sink with dirty rags in it.

The place was fine for a night, but much of the property, furniture and decor is old, tired, torn or in need of a refresh: the heater was loud and woke us throughout the night; the bathroom fan rattled; the bed creaked loudly every time we got up; the bed topper was torn; the bathroom shower head leaked. The most disappointing part of our stay was the unkempt, unorthodox breakfast room and the way the breakfast was offered: a large container of peanut butter and jelly were placed out with a single metal butter knife; a gallon of whole milk sitting in the fridge whether for cereal or coffee. While fine for a family, a communal setting like a hotel needs attention to health standards and safeguards--it left me not wanting to eat. Choices were also limited, including no alternative but whole milk. Ultimately, I was surprised this was billed as a Howard Johnsons.

Where to start: We were in town on business regarding a family member's medical issues. At first glance in the room, it appeared clean, beds had fresh linen, and fresh toweling was provided. However, after walking across the floor my white socks were literally black. With an original 3 night stay, our room was never attended (beds made, trash emptied, fresh towels) even once. The staff did hand us towels when we asked for them, but the washrags were filthy. The breakfast area could be cleaner, but it sufficed. Sleeping was difficult with all of the road noise all night long. It sounded like drag racing. Exhausted, we decided to move to a different hotel. We turned in our keys at 7AM. Nobody was attending the front desk so we continued to the breakfast area, have coffee, and plan our day. Going back to the desk I waited for at least 10 minutes while I knocked on the glass. A man finally came out barefooted, tossled hair, and half dressed. I told him we were checking out and I wanted a copy of my invoice. I had to argue with him over getting an invoice. Apparently too taxing for him to turn around a make a copy on the printer behind him. Once he gave me the invoice I told him no, he needed to take off the day we weren't staying. He refused. I will be taking this up with my CC company and Expedia. Bottom line, the motel looks charming, but DON'T DO IT!

Musty smell in room, unclean. The bathroom had some kind of dried up blood stain or body fluid stuck on the wall. Moved to another hotel as a result of the room smell and dirtiness. The breakfast choice was unhealthy, they had twinkies and the only healthy option was yogurt. Don’t know why this hotel had a good rating, I would not recommend it.

Newly remodeled rooms are very clean. One of our favorite places to stay in Albuquerque.

Beds are comfortable and clean. Room fair. Needing a shower in the am and bathtub dirty, shower head was a handheld and did not stay up for a shower. Looking closely I would not take a shower because of this.

The room we got was big and roomy, beds were comfy, bathroom door lock was not working but overall it was a very quiet and comfy place.

Reasonably comfortable stay at this funky Route 66 motel. Staff friendly and welcoming. Room air conditioner was so close to the bed that both the noise and air made it hard to sleep soundly.

too much Highway noise.

There is no door security or chain on the room doors, which open to the outside. This would not be ok even in a hallway, however.

There is no elevator, just stairs. The doors have a deadbolt, but not a chain or door lock mechanism for added security. This is not ok in this day and age, especially since the rooms open to the outside. The road was extremely noisy with cars racing up and down the street so our second night there, I hardly slept. The owner and his wife were very nice, even when we arrived after flying in at midnight.

Lots of drag racing noise.

The property is on route 66, loved the colorful lighted signs at night including Sandia's. 1- The desk lamp in our rm had a broken shade that met us when we entered the room and sat there for our 3 night stay. 2- I couldn't take a bath due to the tub not having a drain plug. 3- I was sent a text asking if we needed anything to send text mssg back, which I did but never received the blanket or extra towels I asked for. The first 2 nights were quiet, not busy at all, 3rd night exploded. 4- Many drivers mistakenly believe Route 66 is a racetrack. Probably won't stay again if in the area. Worked for us for the business trip we were on.

Friendly staff, nice big room with comfortable bed. Some of the furniture is old and needs to be replaced. There was a metal base around the bed which made noise whenever you sat on the bed but sleeping was noiseless. Bathroom tub was very worn and needs replacement as well.

The room itself was very comfortable with all the amenities you could ask for: comfortable bed, spacious, clean room, microwave, mini-fridge, etc. My only issue was with the horrendous night time 'street racing noise' that was incredibly loud both evenings I was there! I double checked to make sure the windows were closed.

Good value for money. Updated rooms. Comfortable bed. Breakfast is 7-9:00. We left before 7 so didn’t experience it, but a walk through the breakfast room the prior evening showed waffle maker and yogurt in the cooler. In room microwave and refrigerator. Electrical outlets on bedside lamps.

Air was very loud. Outside looks really nice but construction and cleaning was poor in the room. No fan in the bathroom and then steam trigged the fire alarm. Hole in the ceiling. They charged my card when I checked in and then charged it again. Took over a week to reverse the charges as they had gone through. A hold is never usually charged. Only time I've ever took a video of my room before checking out.

Overcharged by hotel, refused explanation or refund

The front desk staff were kind, friendly, and professional. They answered questions and were very helpful. This was our first time in Albuquerque and thought the decor and atmosphere of the hotel was charming.

I can't fit what happened in 1500 letters but here's the bullet points, hopefully the power of socials and the net of people smarter than me will protect our fellow brothers and sisters who are disabled as well from being humiliated in public by this hotel like I was and denied accommodations because I had a service dog it was very clearly identified as it service dog with a giant orange vest and a license in a badge. The only wanted me to show him my injury scars from an accident 2 years ago that left me intermittently paralyzed from nerve damage I also have a lifelong seizure disorder that strikes intermittently. I have to travel with a nurse for Christ's sake. Told me he doesn't he doesn't like dogs it doesn't care if it's a service dog or not meeting disabled isn't his problem is his hotel he doesn't want dogs there. It's clearly advertised on the website and I think the law maybe I'm wrong that they allow service dogs and that there's no fee. Call hotels.com they were extremely nice and did make quite a bit of effort to help me but in the end did nothing in the moment that ended with me and my medical assistant 7 hours away from our home stranded and sleeping in our car in a parking lot there's a lot more to the story of course. But I wouldn't show the hotel owner my personal injury scars and identifying things like my catheter bag in give him personal details of my accident I don't think you can ask me that I was never more humiliated in my life than I was that night.

Staff was very friendly and customer service oriented! Nice king size bed and the AC worked very well! For the price, this was a good place to stop for the night when traveling.

The man at the front desk was friendly and helpful. When we had trouble with the TV he came right away and fixed it. He also gave us suggestions for dinner. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Would absolutely stay here again.

Staff very friendly and made the visit most enjoyable with limited contact we had. Rooms were clean and you could see bathroom had been improved although shower head was old style. Did not stay long as traveling through but was fine motel for the price and good location for travel by Route 66.

We arrived after a very long drive about 20 minutes before check in. The man inside very rudely informed us he would not allow us to check in yet. The property is on a very loud, busy road and looks quite run down. We stayed in a floor level room which we wanted but were put next to the stairs that people were dragging luggage up and down often. The walls were very thin. The couple right above us were having a real good time all night long so we didn’t get much sleep combined with the noise from the busy road and the stairway. Had planned on going for a swim in the pool but after taking a peek it didn’t look like something you would want to get in. Gross. Breakfast area only had some generic crusty cupcakes. After checkout I was informed my card was declined for some reason. I noticed the woman wrote my card info on a piece of paper rather than a card machine or computer, not sure if something was copied wrong. While driving the next day we’re repeatedly harassed by phone and email to pay them or they would call the police. I let her know I would call them back with my info as soon as I could, we were sitting in the ditch in our car as we were in a car accident right then. I called them back with my card info as I said I would. She was very rude saying she was going to call the police, turn me in for fraud, she had us on video and all our information. Nice. Get your card system fixed instead of accusing customers of trying to rob your junk hotel.

Was a great stay!!! Asked for extra coffee and a pillow. Was delivered with inn15 minutes. Staff went out of the way to make sure we were taken care of!

This is a motel, not a hotel. The neighborhood is a little sketchy. Fast food restaurants were available however not sit down and dine type of restaurants were not nearby.

Hotel was in a great location close to Old Town. The rooms are decent and was good enough for one night stay.

Property is on a busy street.

The place itself has a charming feel to it, but is on a very busy road and an area that does not feel conducive to walking. It's within a few minutes drive of the Rio Grande River and parks along there which is nice. The staff at check-in didn't know the process (I guess it was the maintenance person filling in) and the check-out person was on a personal call and didn't even listen to my comments that the TV was not working in my room AND the phone in the room is not connected so I could not contact the front desk for help. He did not seem to care at all. The road next to the hotel is VERY LOUD almost all night with tricked-out cars cruising and racing. The AC unit is very loud as well so it did not make for a restful night, although the bed and room was comfortable enough. The morning breakfast was bare-bones with only bananas for fruit and no dairy alternatives for the coffee or tea. Overall, I would not stay here again.

Close to Bio park and Aquarium as well as Old Town. Pillows were too overstuffed and location was noisy.Bed was comfortable and check in was easy

Great motel to stay at when visiting Albuquerque! The rooms are clean, no musty smells, close to downtown and at a good price. Very recomendable!

Not as close to Old Town as I thought. Nothing really good or bad.

We wanted somewhere within walking distance of the old town but the area is not very safe at night, Very noisy road and homeless people asking for money. The motel itself is fine with safe parking but some traffic noise. Poor eating choices nearby. Parking is very cheap in Albuquerque so better to drive to the old town.

Area around the property did not appear safe. We had expected something close to Old Town. This was also too far away

This hotel is located on old Route 66 and looks like it has been there since the 1950s. But, it is clean, comfortable, and extremely convenient to the Old Town area of Albuquerque. Plus, public bus transportation to Old Town is available on the street in front of the motel. The young lady that runs the Sandia Peak Inn seems truly concerned about keeping it a top-notch hotel choice. She works very long hours to that end.

The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Their Continental breakfast was not good. The only good thing were the waffles. Not a good variety offered. The cereal looked old and stale, bananas the only fruit offered, and the coffee was undrinkable. I asked for the room to be cleaned the 2nd nite, they emptied the trash and left clean towels. The bed sheets were not changed, nor were there new shampoos and soaps replenished.

it offers a basic service. you get what yo pay for. breakast is not good enough and the diner was not orderly nor neat.

The staff was friendly and the bed was comfortable however the property is very rundown and in a very old and very noisy part of the city. The air conditioner was very loud however it helped to block out the street noise. The breakfast offered was minimal, the coffee was terrible. There were basically no dining options near the property. Not sure how this can be a Howard Johnson affiliate.

Well, the power was out in most of the hotel because of a thunderstorm that had just gone thru. We took the room anyway because we had to eat. Figured it would be on by the time we returned. We unpacked the car using our car lights to see inside the room. They were on when we got back. Bkfst was disappointing. Nothing appropriate for diabetics.

Clean. Great for the price we paid. Pool but no hot tub. Some protein/non sugar options for the continental breakfast would be neat. Plenty of delicious cereal, twinkies and waffles though. Would return!
