The rooms were spotless and spacious with a large comfortable bed. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious with a variety of options. The staff were very friendly and attentive and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. We took our dog too and booked a garden view room which had its own door. This enabled us to take our dog straight outside when we needed to. The hotel is extremely dog friendly. We will definitely stay here again.

This is a lovely, quiet hotel on Lake Windermere. Highlights were the freshly cooked breakfast, quiet grounds, and friendly staff throughout our 3 night stay. We also very much enjoyed eating dinner in the hotel one evening, where the food was of high quality. Some areas perhaps would have benefitted from more attention based on the price we paid and the high standard of the other reviews on Expedia. These were: The road junction into the property is challenging at best and dangerous at worst (we witnessed a near miss on one occasion). Would suggest at the very least a mirror is installed so you can see traffic coming from the right There is no fridge in the room which, if you’re going for walks, is a little annoying if you want to be able to take a chilled drink out with you. There are no additional facilities such as a gym or spa. We knew that when we booked it of course, but it’s still worth mentioning given the price.

Beautiful hotel set in really lovely grounds. It's situated perfectly for local attractions, walk, sports etc. Food was delicious but pricey. Service was excellent, friendly and helpful. Nice little bar too.

Very well appointed large room with a new bathroom. Coffee maker and kettle as well as some yummy treats .great service including help with your bags.we enjoyed a drink in the bar and a delicious evening meal. Highly recommend for a stay in the lakes district

Staff really professional, polite, attentive and knowledgeable. Dogs really welcomed and recieved lots of attention from staff...our garden room was lovely, good size, well equipped with a patio seating area. We are planning another trip to the lakes and will be booking Briery Wood again.

Linen not great. Walls are thin, can hear everyone and everything outside. Emergency lighting outside ‘garden rooms’ stays on all night making it look like it’s daylight all night long. Bar prices and food a little too expensive.

This is a quaint hotel that is nicely decorated. Unfortunately, despite asking for quiet rooms, we were given rooms in the main hallway where everyone has to pass by to get in and out of the hotel and get to and from breakfast. The hotel staff also use the foyer right across from these rooms to collect all of the used items from rooms they are cleaning so it was extremely noisy, especially in the morning. The staff are completely oblivious to this. Breakfast wasn't memorable and when they're fully booked, it's almost impossible to move around the dining room.

The hotel was beautiful and friendly. The staff were kind but their abilities in terms of the quality of service were lacking we were served flat champagne in a wine glass. After the main course we ordered 2 VSOP cognacs and 2 coffees. This order was repeated back to us by the waiter sadly 2 French coffees were delivered. On complaint, we were given the French coffees foc. Sad that the staff didn’t have the those necessary skill, as they were otherwise efficient and friendly.

It was a nice stay. The receptionist was pleasant and morning breakfast staff were lovely. The room was clean, fresh and had everything we needed. The evening bar chap was u communicative, surly and borderline rude. It was clear that at 10.30 he just wanted us to go to bed and not dare to order a drink. It’s a shame the whole place is quiet and sleeping by early evening. It felt more like a care home for elderly than a hotel.

This is a lovely, quiet hotel on Lake Windermere. Highlights were the freshly cooked breakfast, quiet grounds, and friendly staff throughout our 3 night stay. We also very much enjoyed eating dinner in the hotel one evening, where the food was of high quality. Some areas perhaps would have benefitted from more attention based on the price we paid and the high standard of the other reviews on Expedia. These were: The road junction into the property is challenging at best and dangerous at worst (we witnessed a near miss on one occasion). Would suggest at the very least a mirror is installed so you can see traffic coming from the right There is no fridge in the room which, if you’re going for walks, is a little annoying if you want to be able to take a chilled drink out with you. There are no additional facilities such as a gym or spa. We knew that when we booked it of course, but it’s still worth mentioning given the price.

The driveway up to the hotel lets it down badly, there's loads potholes and some scattered litter at the entrance. Lovely well kept gardens and in a very quiet peaceful picturesque setting.

We have stayed before at the Brierywood, and also at the sister hotels the Cragwood and the Merewood. We have never had cause for complain. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Will be staying again.Hotel is handy for access to Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness for great choice of places to eat if you wish to on an evening. Even though meals at the hotel is excellent. I love the cooked breakfasts.

Beautiful hotel set in really lovely grounds. It's situated perfectly for local attractions, walk, sports etc. Food was delicious but pricey. Service was excellent, friendly and helpful. Nice little bar too.

This was a fairly late booking and on the whole we had a great stay. The weather was kind and we were able to take a lovely 4 mile walk into Ambleside. The room was very comfortable in all respects. All of the staff that we interacted with were pleasant.

Grounds lovely , staff friendly overall . Rooms quite outdated - corner bath badly stained - electric shower no power - ran either cold or scolding hot . Tv didn’t work due to poor signal . Carpets stained Cooked breakfast was lovely . But the fresh fruit was melon and tinned grapefruit - very 70’s . Outside was planted with lovely spring bulbs -

The room was excellent with a door out to the garden for our dog. The meals were top notch but the thing that was so outstanding was the friendliness and welcome from not just one or two but all of the staff, it made our stay. Will definitely return.

Beautiful hotel. Great staff. At 7pm we were told the restaurant was fully booked throughout the night, and a booking was required ~ totally understand that BUT throughout the evening there were more empty tables than ones that were taken. I’m not sure why we weren’t granted a table but I guess, it’s their loss.

Nice hotel, lovely grounds. Staff were super friendly and helpful and quickly solved an issue that we had. Restaurant and bar areas really nice and clean. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Linen not great. Walls are thin, can hear everyone and everything outside. Emergency lighting outside ‘garden rooms’ stays on all night making it look like it’s daylight all night long. Bar prices and food a little too expensive.

The location was very nice. The staff were lovely & helpful. The food was very well presented.. very good choice , could of been warmer!. .unfortunately our room No 9...was clean but over the kitchen area. There was a door banging quite often early morning, and up to 10pm or so. Also a constant extractor was noisy too. Our room needed a refresh. Plenty of parking.

Love this hotel. Great for parking, staff very professional but engaging and genuine. Room very clean and plenty room. Our room was a garden room. If the weather had been kind to us we would have sat out on our patio. Gardens are well maintained and pretty. Bus stop nearby to get easily into Ambleside. Breakfast was good and plenty choice. Our stay was sooo nice booked again for this August. ❤️
